The 4 Best Hostels in Cape Town (Updated 2025)

"Just a 10-minute walk from the starting point of the historical walking tours and many other attractions, this central, budget-friendly party hostel is lively with nightly events (karaoke, beer pong, open mics) while its outdoor garden provides a quiet oasis away from the booming hostel bar. The real highlight for me is that, because the hostel is on the same power grid as the parliament building, it never loses power—useful in a city with frequent load-shedding—though dorms have cheap metal bunks with no curtains and basic mattresses, so sleep probably isn't your priority." - Matthew Kepnes

We had an eventful extended stay as a group at LSB. The rooms are appropriate for a hostel, the bathrooms are OK, and the shared kitchen was very good. It's located on Long Street, so the nights are noisy but also very lively. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, and the hostel organizes activities every day, which makes for a varied stay. Overall, it was a great experience.

Good location but a bit noisy. I’m wearing earplugs to sleep anyways so I didn’t mind. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. There is also a very nice bar that belongs to the hostel. I would definitely stay here again.

“A true home away from home. Longstreet Backpackers is such a friendly and welcoming place—everyone here goes out of their way to make life easy, comfortable, and affordable. The whole team, from reception to the sports bar to housekeeping, is incredibly lovely, helpful, and always smiling. It’s hard to even describe how much love I have for this place. The atmosphere, the people, and the warmth make it unforgettable.”

The bed was brand new, soon comfortable, felt like a hug. The sheets as white as snow. Atmosphere so chilled, the staff? Sooo friendly especially that lady and guy that checked us in ohh darlings you'll forever be famous. The activities? Top tier, enjoyed ourselves so much. I mean everything was too good. There's restaurants and bars nearby... Wait... There's a bar inside. Definitely going back.

My first time in a hostel and i had the best experience ever. Everyone here is so welcoming and kind whether that is the staff or the people who stay here. Everything is very well cleaned and you’ll never be bored here

Excelent hostel. Nice atmosphere. Very well-equipped kitchen. Coworking space. Lively at night. Not the best option if you just want to rest. It’s a place for socializing.

The rooms weren’t that bad, but the bedding? NO! The towel provided? NO! Throw those away please! Slept without bedding during my whole stay because I asked for it to be changed and no one attended to my request I was just dismissed! Showers are in a not so nice state. The are no mops/towels to wipe floors after showering so the floor stays wet! The COCKROACHES!!! 😫 cockroach galore. On your bags, on the bed everywhere, even on you when the lights are off! Not happy with the state of the kitchen as well. And there’s a weird odour.

Checked into Long Street backpackers on Friday the 8th of August and when I got to the backpacker, Shaker was the one who checked me in and he was gentle, kind and professional. He showed me the facilities and led me to my dorm and I enjoyed my stay for 3 nights and checked out yesterday, the 11th of August. What made my stay super amazing was playing Need for speed at the bar and catching up with old friends at the bar. Super bummed that the space is closing at the end of the month. I had a great time!
