The Longqingxia Ice Latern Festival is held during winter from mid of January to the end of February. It is a miniature version of Harbin Ice and Snow Festival but a much lesser cold weather. Various ice sculptors depicting Chinese architecture eg. ancient city gate and wall, tower are on display with colorful lighting, offering a sight to behold. At the end of exhibition area, adjacent to the concrete dam, water released from the dam was frozen during winter. Snow fall collected on the frozen water fall and turns it into a snow water fall; a magnificent master piece by mother nature. There are also a drone light show, glittering the evening sky with colorful animating displays. Fun activities are also available eg. bicycling, chair sled on a frozen lake. Longqingxia is about 30 km. north of Badaling Great Wall. It is definitely worth combining a visit to the great wall and a visit to the ice lantern festival into a one full day trip from Beijing during winter.
