7 winter festivals to visit around the world - SilverKris

"At Longqing Gorge, a two-hour drive north of Beijing, the festival transforms huge blocks of ice into over 400 imaginative ice sculptures—think dragons, lanterns and even ice castles—and offers a mystical atmosphere with nightly fireworks displays, folk dancing performances and opportunities to try ice fishing or skating; tickets cost 100 yuan (children below 1.2 m enter free) and the festival runs until 28 February 2019." - Isabel Ong

The Longqingxia Ice Latern Festival is held during winter from mid of January to the end of February. It is a miniature version of Harbin Ice and Snow Festival but a much lesser cold weather. Various ice sculptors depicting Chinese architecture eg. ancient city gate and wall, tower are on display with colorful lighting, offering a sight to behold. At the end of exhibition area, adjacent to the concrete dam, water released from the dam was frozen during winter. Snow fall collected on the frozen water fall and turns it into a snow water fall; a magnificent master piece by mother nature. There are also a drone light show, glittering the evening sky with colorful animating displays. Fun activities are also available eg. bicycling, chair sled on a frozen lake. Longqingxia is about 30 km. north of Badaling Great Wall. It is definitely worth combining a visit to the great wall and a visit to the ice lantern festival into a one full day trip from Beijing during winter.

Lovely place to spend a few hours. Really beautiful nature, with a cool cable car to almost the top of the mountain from where you walk the rest to see the beautiful view. The only disadvantage is that every attraction costs extra money, so as entrance costs money then cable cars extra and boat ride also extra. Getting here can be abit confusing though, you need to take the 919 to yanqing get of on guishui n street and then change buses to the 875 bus number.

Approximately 2hours drive from the From center. Not worth for a solo trip since most visitors comes through group packages. A far away space from city close to nature. Peaceful area. Difficult to find taxi. Bunjee jump available. The dragon steps are a good experience

Visited in January of 2016. It was cold, ice sculptures were made very attractive. The place also known as mini Harbin near Beijing.

Worth a visit, not as big as Harbin but the ice sculptures and lantern lights are just as impressive.

We wasted a day going there and coming back, and it was closed. It is seasonally open. It opens from mid-April until the end of summer. We asked in our hotel reception, and she checked and said it is open.
