On the Grid : Long Street & Gardens

"From the City Bowl to the leafy suburb of Gardens, this area has everything you could ever want from a city. Meander through the streets to find boutique stores selling everything from second-hand outfits to surf gear. Every night the party starts on Kloof Street with plenty of Café’s dinner spots, and continues through the night in the bars and clubs of Long Street." - Hyperakt

My new favorite Memorial Day weekend tradition. Loved digging my own irises. I visited in search of peachy-pink varieties and found many! The flowers are beautiful and the people are kind and generous. What a wonderful gift to the community

Picked up these Iris' last year and waited to give a review until I saw blooms. The flowers are great and as described, I love the U Dig It section. My wife loves the Deserts Rage and Before the Storm the most of our selection. Would recommend to anyone who wants good quality flowers for their garden.

The wife hit this place just as it was about to close for the season, and we were the only people there which was really cool. Everyone at the farm is super friendly and helpful. It was super fun digging up the rhizomes and it was an amazing variety of colors they offer. All rows included a picture of the iris type which makes it super easy to make a selection. Please put this place on your bucket list.

These gardens could not be set. No more idolic location with the mountains is a backdrop and rose and rows of beautiful irises and green growing things. It's lovely, even if you aren't going to buy plants, just stop by and just admire the beauty. That said, I came today to pick up some new irises to add to my garden and the staff welcomed us, no pressure, and answered so many questions and educated me about irises in general, and their flowering more specifically. Really recommend a stop by here when you have a moment, even if you don't have a garden.

Whether you just want to look around or dig your own Irises to bring home, Long's Garden is a great way to spend a sunny afternoon. The Irises are beautiful, good quality, and come in a variety of unique shapes and colors. Our family has collected quite a few of Long's Irises and they have bloomed beautifully for many years. Don't forget to ask about the dwarf varieties. They are super cute and unique.

The staff was exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. The photo book allows you to make quick and easy decisions on colors and sizes. The quantity of Iris you receive is numerous compared to any nursery in town and the prices are fair. I highly recommend purchasing your Iris here. It was a great experience!

A dear friend took me to Long's Gardens about 19 years ago, in the month of May, my birthday. The Iris were blooming, some still preparing to bloom. We parked & went over to the weather beaten barn to get small shovels & paper bags. We were instructed as to which area were allowed to dig. I was AWESTRUCK! We walked amoung the rows to select which types of Iris we wanted & began to dig. Iris are not deeply planted & were quite easy to gently lift from the soil. There are clumps of Iris RHIZOMES (the roots) which you divide. Similar to breaking a clump of fresh ginger. It was difficult to stop myself! They were all so lovely I wanted all of them! Different varieties vary not only in color & height but fragrance as well. If you love to garden Long's Gardens is pure heaven. I felt "like a kid in a candy store!" I planted them immediately! When my Mother came to visit the next year in Spring I took her there & she loved it. We began to trade RHIZOMES & shared photos. Fast forward to 2018, my Mom has passed. I dug up as many of her rhizomes as I could & brought them to Atlanta where I now live, & they also grow wonderfully. Iris are relatively easy to grow. The joy of Long's Gardens will be with me all of my life. Needless to say, I give them a 10 on a scale of 1 to 5. Customer Service here has always been A+!!!

We visited Long's gardens today. The irises there are amazing, from dwarfs to giants, and colors are breathtaking. Randy the owner gave us a tour and explained how to take care of the flowers. we took a lot of pictures and bought several plants. If anyone wants to get irises, or just look at the flowers and cute goats, this is the best place to do it!
