These Are the Best Temecula Valley Wineries to Visit

"Longshadow prides itself on its Old West flavor, but it is an upgraded version of the frontier, to be sure—complete with fine wine, carriage rides pulled by Belgian draft horses, and a very architectural version of a ranch house. The hillside vineyards produce a number of wines, among them Estate Sangiovese, Estate Syrah and a less usual Estate Cinsault. The event schedule here includes the 'Legends of the Wild West' dinner theater on many Friday nights throughout the year." - Richard Nalley

My husband and I loved our visit. They had live music that was easy to listen to and not so loud you had to yell to be heard. We did a tasting and took the employee's recommendations on which reds to try and, honest to goodness, every single one was a home run for us. Lovely day, lots of families, a small playground for kids.

My first visit to this winery a few years ago wasn't great. To be fair, it was a crowded weekend outdoor event on a miserably hot day. I had been totally underwhelmed by warm white wine in a plastic cup and didn't visit again until recently...but am glad I gave it another shot! This recent visit was with a women's wine group on a Friday as soon as they opened. I had never been inside the tasting room which is beautiful with a warm wood decor and western ambiance. Our servers were friendly and my Cab Franc was good. We all tried their famous Ponderosa Port shots in chocolate cowboy boots which was such a fun and yummy combo! Breezy pleasant temps after a heat wave meant we were able to sit outside. Although not pet-friendly, it is a kid-friendly winery, with a playground area and some farm animals. They have Saturday night bonfires, music and food trucks. There was a taco truck the day we were there and those who ordered said it was great. While I probably wouldn't visit on a regular basis, this was a unique winery that I'd especially recommend to anyone with kids.

Although the grounds are pretty, staff was friendly and wine was good — as an animal care professional it was disappointing to see the lack of care for the animals at the establishment. It appears that all animals hooves require maintenance in addition to overall grooming. The enclosures would also benefit from more routine cleaning / general maintenance in addition to fly prevention measures. The horses would especially benefit from fly prevention. There are a variety of methods to address flies to ensure the comfort and overall well being of the animals. I don’t feel it is beyond financial means for Long Shadow to provide more adequate care for the animals. Based off business reviews it appears this has been an ongoing issue as other community members have shared their concerns. I even had a friend opt to not have her wedding at the location based off the animals care not being at a higher standard. There are many local groups that can provide referrals for hiring additional care from grooming services to farrier’s all in which would come to your location. Speaking on behalf of the community and animal advocates and lovers alike we’d appreciate your immediate attention to this matter.

Google
What a great experience we had at this winery. We came for a private birthday party and it was so much fun. The grounds are absolutely beautiful! They had another band playing outside with good food and a pretty large crowd. Lots of people dancing and having fun. This will become one of our favorite wineries to visit when we are in town!

Google
Beautiful place for the whole family. They have horses, goats and an alpaca on the property. They also have a children's playground, live music, a nice selection of wine and food. Very nice and relaxing day there.

Google
Great wine tasting place if you have a kids. They have playground for kids, animals goats, sheep and lama and 2 horses. But wine tasting experience could be better 😔 i don't like to drink wine in plastic cups

Google
Had a great time talking to the wine pourers at the bar, wines were delicious and the property was lovely. During the day there is an indoor tasting room to get out of the heat, we would definitely come back.

Yelp
The good: I tried two types of wine for $12 per glass. They tasted great. I liked this winery because they had 2 horses, an alpaca, sheep and two goats. My kids enjoyed viewing them and they were located right where the fire pits, stage, bar and bathroom were. They also had a small playground. The outdoor lights were nice at night. The bad: I accidentally booked a 5:30-closing bonfire ticket for Saturday but showed up on a Friday during a private event because I had my days mixed up. The playground is on dirt so it can get a little dusty and dirty with the kids. There will be the scent of farm animals since the animal are right where everything else is located. The interesting: They had a wedding going on and they had a cute giant cowboy boot to hold flowers. I noticed there were a few boots like this on the property. There was an electric fence around the horse area. Google maps led us to the road above which is a private residence.

Yelp
Visited here during the crazy August heatwave. I was worried that it wouldn't be a good experience because of other reviews on Yelp but I had such a great time! Bought a tasting for 2 off of Groupon and I think we got 4 or 5 pours? The guy who helped us was very friendly and quick to come out and help us. He was pretty heavy handed with the pours and it wasn't the best wine I've ever had but definitely a fun experience. My favorite thing was the port wine in a chocolate boot which was served cold and so tasty! If it's really hot out, I would recommend that you call beforehand and make sure that the indoor space is available to sit in. Otherwise I had fun exploring, the wines were good, and the animals all looked healthy. Don't try to pet the alpaca!

Yelp
Love the uniqueness of this winery. Service is great, they are open late and have live music. Playground area for kids. The issue is the overall care and happiness of the animals on site. It just breaks my heart seeing them. The enclosures are full of poop, the lamb had a full wool coat in the middle of summer when it's 100°+ outside and no shade. The horses hooves look so terrible. It's sad to see that the animals are not properly cared for.

Yelp
The Buttero and L'Orange white wines were the best white wines I tried all day. They were light and fruity, sweet but not syrupy. My boyfriend loved the reds as well, his favorite was the outlaw red. The boot shooter was so cute and yummy, chocolate cowboy boot with port inside. Loved the country ranch atmosphere. Services was great, workers were friendly. Just the type of people you want pouring you wine!

OcGirl I.

Yelp
The server was nice, he did decent pours. The wine is just not good at all. I had a hard time to even finish some of them and just dumped them. We won't be back to this winery with so many other good ones in the area.

Yelp
Amazing customer service and the animals were adorable.Dave was inviting, super friendly and made us feel very welcomed.

Yelp
Beautiful winery for the whole family. It's kid friendly and the staff are all amazing especially Chris. He was very welcoming and efficient. It was a good day well spent. We had a very relaxing day here after Wilson Creek. The wines we got were delicious and I really enjoyed the kick back, not crowded and relax atmosphere. They also had an amazing food truck too, my kid loved it. The bathrooms are clean and what we enjoyed the most were the perfect picturesque arch for our family photos. 1000/1000.

Yelp
If you have little kids and like animals then this winery is for you. My husband and I visited this winery via a Groupon. Unfortunately, we were not able to do a tasting because it was a Saturday (I guess we missed that small print on the Groupon). However, they allowed us to purchase a glass of wine each using the Groupon. I ordered the Rose and it was fabulous. We probably won't return since we don't have small kids but we enjoyed our time while we were there. We met some really cool ppl that we chatted with for a while.

Yelp
My husband and I enjoyed a quiet Friday afternoon at this winery. We had purchased a Groupon and it was easy to redeem. The employees were very friendly and helpful. After we got a glass of wine, we were able to walk around and enjoy the property. The animals are cute and the grounds are landscaped well.

Yelp
I've been visiting Longshadow for many years. I recently decided to become a Wine Club member for two reasons: I love the Bonfire Saturdays and have a 5-yr old so the outdoor area w/ a playground makes it very family friendly. The wine is not great, there are a few good reds, but I have NOT liked the whites at all. The main reason for my 2-star review is because of issues I am still having with my wine club membership. I discovered I was being charged twice for my membership. Upon realizing it, I wrote 3 emails to the Wine Club email. I had NO response (however, they did get back to me months ago with an easy question about the Bonfire events). I called - the gentleman was nice - he cancelled one of the memberships so I wouldn't get charged in the future, but advised I email the events email instead of the wine club, as they check those emails more frequently. Well my friends, I think I am up to 6 total emails over a month or two period...ZERO RESPONSE. So unprofessional!!! I eventually just reported a problem through my credit card to get reimbursed for the two double charges. But it's a shame it even had to come to that. As soon as my 1 year membership is up I am cancelling immediately. I'll take my money elsewhere to wineries that have good customer service and value their members.

Yelp
Update - So we started drinking by the glass then decided to buy 2 bottles & also food from the food truck onsite. I ended up getting really sick. Threw up a lot that night then the next morning. When I threw up my upper body got hot & sweaty (food/drink poisoning?) Not sure if it was a bad bottle or if it was the food. My 2 other friends also threw up. The only person who did not throw up was the one driving & he did not taste any wine from the bottles just the single serve from the cups. We had half a bottle left that we brought back home but ended up throwing it away because we were not sure if it was a contaminated bottle. Overall great time while there but got sick from either the bottled wine or food.

Edith E.

Yelp
We called ahead asked if we needed reservations they said no just come in, we got a Groupon for this place and once we arrived the gates were closed the phone was busy and no one picked up. There were other cars by the gate also trying to go here. Sad I guess we won't get to try it.

Yelp
We had an amazing Mother's Day brunch here! It was perfect for the kiddos since there's a playground and animals that they were all about. The rose drinks I got were refreshing and perfect for the hot day. Generally the prices are fair, but Mother's Day pricing was a little high. We had a wonderful time as a family and I highly recommend Longshadow if you have kids, and/or if you just love wine!

Yelp
They could improve their service. Their hospitality not too mention their cleanliness of the overall place. 8-3-2024 attended a wedding. The bathrooms were disgusting. The reception hall floor was a mess. The onsite food service was mediocre at best. The reception hall was so hot, the doors were open to get some air coming in. The person that was there running the event said their air wasn't that great. The ceiling fans they had inside were on super slow, so slow you could see the spider webs hanging from them along with off the huge ceiling. The bride and groom were so nice and great people. They had a good crowd. The owner of the winery booked another small acoustic guitar player at the lower spot, but he started playing and you could hear that guy over the private ceremony. If I owned this place I would be ashamed of the horrible and down right disrespectful service that was provided. The wine that is made there, taste like paint thinner The vineyards look like they could use some gardening. Weeds everywhere. I wouldn't hold anything here, after seeing what they went through and how the owner isn't taking ownership of not providing what they paid for. That's just down right unethical.

Yelp
Qualifier: I perform marriage ceremonies, and this review is about the wedding that I performed at this winery. I gave it only 4 There's enough room for about 70 people, not many more. That's true for the outside wedding area as well as the reception area inside. There is ample parking, but the main lot is a short hike from the back of the winery. The groom gets his own dressing room, about 50 yards away from the outdoor wedding arch. The bride gets her own dressing area, the loft above the reception area. There is no elevator access to the loft. The winery catered the meal, but the wedding couple provided their own cake and desserts. According to the couple, they could not bring their own alcohol, but they were able to bring their own non-alcoholic beverages. The winery provided the alcohol and served it from a fully stocked bar. The environment is rustic. The reception area appears to be a converted barn, with huge barn doors at both ends. I worked primarily with the DJ hired by the wedding couple and a couple of the winery employees. They were all very friendly and helpful. From what I could tell, the winery itself has a tasting area and live music available for everyday patrons of the winery.

Yelp
Not only one of the few wineries with a playground for the kids to play, but their wines were amazing! The Cinsault and Moscat were by far my favorites here. Can't wait to come back
google avatar

Heather S.

Yelp
Super outdoorsy feel! Wine was pretty good, did a tasting each and enjoyed them all. The employee who helped us "dave" was very attentive and helpful. They have a delicious sangria and wine slushes as well. Have a play ground for the kids, and a few animals for the kids to enjoy as well. Highly recommend a stop in, you won't feel like a number like some of these other wineries, feel wanted and appreciated!
google avatar

Sallie R.

Yelp
Cute little spot for wine tasting. Felt like I was in the woods away from the busy city. Dave who assisted us provided the best customer service ever. He was so kind easily to exchange conversations. Made us comfortable suggesting the best wines to taste. Complimentary popcorn was provided upon request. There were horses, goats, and alpaca to see on the ranch which made it a nice touch. Highly recommend visiting this winery. Thanks to Dave, I will returned.
google avatar

Catherine S.

Yelp
Kid friendly! Putting that first so all my parents know that this is the spot to go if you have a little one. Such a great winery for parents to come relax and let their kids play and see some farm animals. We opted for the 3 tastings and it was more than enough. The bar tenders were very welcoming and helped us choose some yummy wines. Thanks guys! We chilled in the patio which had more than enough seating. My 4 year old loved the play area and looking at the goats and horses. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Beth G.

Yelp
Love this vineyard! They have a huge outside area with a live band and dancing. Huge indoor area as well. Super clean, nice bathrooms, fast service. Great tasting wine and if you get tired of drinking- you can switch over to wine popsicles! Yum!
google avatar

Juan G.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed with the costumer service! The flight pour was so inconsistent when it came to our party not to mention how rude Chris was to my daughter and insulted her. I've been to other wineries and they have always explained their wines and given suggestions based on our taste buds but they just stood there and did not explain a single thing making the entire experience a bad one and we happened to be celebrating my mother in laws 65 birth day.
google avatar

Bhairavi A.

Yelp
Nice place if you have kids - we went on a weekday right as it opened, so there really wasn't anyone there. There are trees and shade near the playground area so it didn't feel as hot as we thought it was going to be. There are a lot of ants (it's the summer heat!) so if you have little ones crawling around, they might have ants crawling on them.
google avatar

Claudia A.

Yelp
Great place for families. Our toddler enjoyed watching the horses, playing outdoors and the live music. Husband and I enjoyed their port wine. Highly recommend. Service was excellent. They also had a food truck which made all very convenient and enjoyable. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the landscaping/ seating area upcoming. It could use some attention for a cleaner environment.

Doug I.

Yelp
Worst winery in the valley. So shady, my fiancé had a member ship last year and cancelled it months ago yet they continue to charge her account and will not return her calls or emails.
google avatar

Nicola L.

Yelp
Highly recommend this winery for people with kids. My kids love their playground and animals. Food on the weekends. Wine is eh but hey a moment for everyone to relax. I'll take it.

John B.

Yelp
Best day ever outdoors with the family! My kids loved feeding animals and the playground. Wines were fabulous and all handmade on site. Cinsault and Cabernet were highlights for us. Definitely coming back!

Yelp
Longshadow Ranch has its own unique charms, but with all of the wineries in the area it doesn't quite feel like those are enough to make it stand out. It's very rustic and cute with lots of animals and an outdoorsy feel, but it doesn't seem to be kept up very well between the dirty bathrooms, animal pens, and tables. With a small staff, it feels like a place that has been left in need of some real TLC. Sitting outside is pleasant and the big tables inside are appreciated with the cool indoor environment and atmosphere. Our bartender was also super great, being transparent about what he did and didn't recommend, keeping conversation and sharing generous wine pours for our tasting. Ultimately, though, the wine wasn't really very good. We did tasting flights, and nothing stood out with taste of each wine ranging from fine to poor. However, the price for the generous tasting pours was super reasonable and our group was able to hang out for a while. Given the chance to come back I wouldn't completely say no, but I'd be more interested in trying somewhere new instead.

Yelp
We came here today after reading reviews saying it was a family friendly winery. It's definitely a good place to bring kids - there's a playground and everything is pretty open so you can see little ones easily. The reason I'm giving 3 stars is because the animals are... Sad. The animals were one of the reasons we were excited to visit since a lot of reviews said that kids like seeing them, but their living conditions were pretty bad. The goat pen is next to the bathroom and their stall was so dirty. The alpaca and sheep have a similarly small pen that was just as dirty and their water pail was full of filth. The horses's hooves appeared to be flared and they looked uncomfortable. I like the concept of having animals there, but just couldn't get over the fact of how poorly they were maintained.
google avatar

Gabriella S.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor, don't go. Just don't, not even for the animals. They have two poor horses Elliott & Red who look miserable. Overgrown, untrimmed hooves, how isn't that animal abuse?

LeAnn G.

Yelp
Fantastic service! Chris, (or Ben as we affectionately called him) was great! Not only was he just an all around fun guy, he's knowledgeable and very helpful during the tasting process. The wine itself was delicious! It was my first time but I'll definitely be returning. (The only downside was the heat! It was warm in there. Chris did his best to put fans near everyone but there was only so much he could do. A few portable AC units would be a great addition inside.)
google avatar

Nelly K.

Yelp
Worst service ever. Dave was INCREDIBLY rude to us. Completely dead behind the eyes. In addition, the wine is below average. Don't bother coming here, there are so many other beautiful wineries in Temecula.

Megan P.

Yelp
My favorite place! The best wine, service and atmosphere! All are welcomed and it's the best family owned winery here in Temecula.
google avatar

Judy W.

Yelp
Great location for family and music, while adults sip and relax! Beautiful location with horse-lover vibe.
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
This is a great winery to come to if you have kids. There are animals to pet, a small playground, and live music. I felt like the wine selection was a bit limited and the food coming off of a food truck wasn't the best, BUT I was in a beautiful environment with my kids and friends.
google avatar

Breanna M.

Yelp
This place looked charming when we first got here, but the longer we stayed the more we didn't like it. We showed up with a reservation, but it still took them a while to get set up. They sat us at dirty tables, then barely wiped it down for us afterwards. We had to go back in with our own napkins after whey wiped it down. The wine was served in plastic cups, and wasn't that great. A lot of my family did the tastings, but wasn't too fond of the choices. Quite a small menu. The hot chocolate with a shot of port was decent though. And helped to keep us warm. We tried to use the fire pit and they told us no because it wasn't 5:30pm yet, it was only 4pm. We asked the guy if we can pay for early use since we were cold and he told us no, and that all of them were reserved already anyways. We asked if there were other heaters we could use, like the tall portable ones, and I'm assuming us asking all these things got him frustrated because he then got rude with us. Not accommodating at all and he reminded us several times we had the "free" reservation as if that was the reason why we were being treated the way we were being treated. We up and left after that.
google avatar

Philip S.

Yelp
Good winery to bring the kids. Nice playground, animals they can pet, small zip line. Great bbq truck with a good tri tip sandwich, burgers, nachos etc. good wine, good love music.
google avatar

Christine E.

Yelp
I really like the family run feel of this winery. The live music and fire tables in the winter are a plus. Reasonable wine prices and they have limited beer and seltzer for those that don't drink wine.
google avatar

Pilar V.

Yelp
Amazing, friendly service! Our second time here. Came in for wine tastings and was treated just like family! Loved the Buttero, Muscat & the port!!
google avatar

Cydia N.

Yelp
If you're looking for an affordable wine tasting this spot is for you. Purchased their tasting on Groupon. Beside the dirty tables and bench, and flies everywhere, We had a great time.

Yelp
If you like "rustic" as in falling apart then you'll dig this place. I hate to bash local businesses but I'm hoping this review will help to improve this place as I see it does have the potential to be great. We reserved a table by the children's playground one evening for my family of 6. The playground had an ant infestation (part of nature I know). I felt like they neglected to care for the facility in all aspects. Little kids were crying bc they were covered in ants. They market this winery as child friendly so in doing that you should actually make it so. There was a shady rope swing thing that was sort of shut down but looked like little ones were going to kill themselves using it. The horse fence was falling apart. The BBQ place was gross. Stale buns & cold meat. Sangria was not drinkable. We purchased a bottle of their most popular white - honestly we drank it bc we were having such a horrible time and Pelzter was too packed for an event. The wine was disgusting. We would have returned it but the only guy working was such a grump and a huge line was forming waiting their turn to order so we drank it and left. I'll never go back and unfortunately I've told my friends. This place needs friendlier staff, some renovations and better wine and food.

Courtney B.

Yelp
Replying to my earlier review seeking my refund if $550 this winery had charged me without having a my authorization. I have not had a membership here since March of 2022 when I cancelled the membership due to moving. This owner finally replied after over a month of no response to emails or calls. He has only refunded 3 of the 5 charges and in his response told me that $550 is not really a lot of money and basically blamed me for being fraudulently charged by his establishment. Pretty horrible customer service and overall business. I would never join this winery. Please check your bank account if you have been a member in the past 5 or more years. He at no time apologized or accepted responsibility for charging me and has yet to respond with further resolving the dispute. What type of business responds blaming the guest that was charged in error? He should not be in business. So many other wineries in Temecula that demonstrate proper business etiquette. Do better Longshadow

Yelp
This is the 5th winery I visited in Temecula and was the 1st one that made me realize that not all wineries in Temecula are actually nice. We didn't get to sit inside because the building was closed, so I couldn't comment on that. First off, things that I actually liked: the setting is much more natural and not so ritz bougie (this could be a bad thing too tho). There are plenty of space outside for kids to run around without having to worry about bothering other guests. All staff were very nice. Then all the bads: wine simply didn't taste good for me, came in a plastic cup instead of glasses, animals were dirty and smelly, tables and chairs were extremely filthy with dirt/rust/spider webs, flies and gnats everywhere, fastfood out of the food truck was the only available food option and it was laughably terrible. My Temecula resident inlaws who brought me there were apologizing the whole time for such let down. I thought it could be worse and even enjoyed my time with them there, but the winery definitely way subpar in every way. Probably won't visit again.

Yelp
Great family friendly spot for wine and some good outdoor time! Kids play area, farm animals, great atmosphere, and good wine. The Tempranillo was our favorite try.
google avatar

Curt T.

Yelp
The service here was great. They don't do wine tasting on the weekends but they honored the value of our Groupon and applied that to a bottle which was great. They had live music and it was good. The Sauvignon Blanc was delicious and crisp. I wish I remembered the name of the guy that helped us out. So friendly and efficient. Loved him.

Yelp
I want to say thank you again for allowing me to use your establishment for my retirement ceremony today. Your hospitality and courteous nature is very much appreciated. (John the owner) I was very impressed with the lady who initially set up my event before Maria was assigned to be my host for my event. When my wife and  I first met Maria, she was late for our scheduled appointment and directed her tardiness on someone else.  When we met a second time, she was late again. The second time we met, she attempted to overcharge me $500 and stated someone told her to charge me another amount, I pulled up the contract on my phone, and she had no clear explanation on why "the front office", was overcharging me.  On the Day of the rehearsal, I was told by my colleagues that she was very rude before I arrived, venting her frustration to them about things she wasn't comfortable with  and or asking you the owner or making an adjustment for things, such as moving the tables out of the way a little.  When I came, she immediately started loud talking to me in front of my official party participating in the rehearsal (I have several people that can provide accounts for this). I eventually told her that this was embarrassing and that we could quit this conversation because my guests were waiting for me to start the rehearsal. I was very proud of myself because her tone was disrespectful to me, and I don't usually allow nor tolerate any form of disrespect. I am not here to go tit for tat on what she said would happen and the particular time frame she said that things would be completed. I just wanted to state how very unprofessional she was. I originally booked your location because I previously attended a Chief Ball, and a few of my service members recommended it would be a beautiful occasion if I did my ceremony there. If maria is their host, in the future I would advise  them not to book through her and notify you ( John) if there is someone else who can cater to their needs. Thanks again for the use of the establishment.

Yelp
I want to thank you and especially David who was so gracious and informative on my last visit. For those wanting to have a full body menu of wine choices and the atmosphere to match, a visit here is definitely worth your while. May you and generations continue to bring a smile to others and wonderful tastings in the years to come. Rich

Yelp
Hey Longshadow Ranch, we put in an order on 8/16/24 for wine totaling $465 and we still have not received it but you charged us. We have been trying to follow-up on when we should receive our wine, and were told to e-mail the owner. We have e-mailed 3 different times and to date no one has replied. We've also tried to call and it just rings busy! We love your wine, but not liking the customer service thus far. You'd have 5 stars but for this issue so hoping this gets your attention.

Yelp
Three stars for the animals and live band. Food was crappy - super cheeseball. The nachos are cheap corn chips with canned cheese sauce. Worse than a movie theatre. Wine was awful and had a metallic smell. 10 bucks for a little plastic cup of crappy wine. We couldn't even finish. We paid 30 to reserve a table. Turned out to be a Table top fire table. Like you buy at Home Depot. No space for food. Which was ok because no one ate it anyway. 2 sandwiches nachos cheese plate cost about 70 - wow. They should be embarrassed. Signs say no pets but a lady at a nearby table had her dog in her lap. Couldn't get out of there fast enough.
