Loos American Bar

Our friend who lives in Vienna recommended the Loos American Bar so we went. The bar is very very small and intimate, so I think reservations are recommended. We were lucky to snag a table for two for one hour as someone had it reserved for little later. The decor is modernist, simple but has mahogany wood and onyx marble walls The cocktails were tasty.

Great bar, quite small so maybe reserve if you know when you’re going to be there. Excellent Negroni. Amazing interior from 1908!

Loos American Bar is a private classy bar perfect for dates or private small gatherings. The place is small, but beautiful. The staff is very friendly and helpful, catering to your needs. There is a large variety of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. There is a subtle jazz/ classy music playing in the background enhancing the experience, and the lighting sets the mood just right. Definitely worth a visit.

We wanted to drink a couple of cocktails and this place popped up on the map. Got to say, was very interesting seeing that they have a dress code, this is not something that you see all day. We had 2 raspberry gin that were decent taste and well done. To be honest we waited a little too long for them and the place was not full, most of the tables were empty. Anyway the place looks great on the inside, a little dark with a touch of mistery and nice design. I would recommend this place for drinks!

Super nice place, with elegant and courteous bartenders. You feel like you moved back in time to 1920s. Tasty drinks as well, but the interior is the highlight. Very small in terms of sitting, so if you're more than 2 people, it can be a struggle to seat.

Don't worry about being called old-fashioned," says the architect Adolf Loos about this small, charming cocktail bar in the heart of Vienna. Since there's not much space inside, if you manage to snag a good spot early on, I think you'll have a great time. It's a place I'll definitely visit again when I return to Vienna, and I recommend it to everyone.

Super hard to get into, was very busy when I was there. Impossible to sit somewhere without cig smoke all around or in your face. They have a large cocktail selection which was enjoyable and the craftsmanship on the cocktail was good. I prefer a different environment with less smoke.

As a big of fan of architecture/design and alcohol, I made a point to visit the Loos Bar when a friend and I visited Vienna a few weeks ago. The Loos Bar was designed by famous Viennese architect and design Adolf Loos in 1908. It's 290 square feet of onyx, marble, and mahogany. It really is an incredible space. (They do have outdoor seating but if it's your first visit to the Loos Bar, you want to sit inside - it's part of the experience.) It's a cocktail bar, so my friend and I each ordered a cocktail according to our preferences from the menu - which is huge. My friend had a cocktail made with mezcal, and I had the Adolf Loos Spritzer (champagne, soda, strawberries, and mint). We both enjoyed our cocktails. Mine was exactly what I wanted on a warm afternoon day - refreshing and light. We went in the early afternoon, because I worried that this tiny little bar would get packed if we went at a more traditional hour for cocktails. It was pretty empty when we arrived and sat inside. So that's what's great about the Loos Bar - the design, the style, the drinks, the history. What's not so great? The service wasn't great, pretty unfriendly/unwelcoming (our bartender seemed almost offended we'd bothered him by ordering a drink). And they have a dress code - no flip flops, backpacks, or shorts (although "elegant shorts are welcome outdoors"). The dress code is reasonable, I suppose, and I probably wouldn't have minded if it weren't for the poor service. Despite this bad service, I can't give the Loos Bar any less than four stars, because it was one of the coolest bars I've ever visited: an amazing, historic space and some great cocktails, too.

Crap service. Dum. SLOW. Oversized & confusing menu. Nothing original to offer. No beer ( pretentious!) A little overpriced. REAL hot women, though. Overrated. Goto Josef- 100x better.

Drinks were okay. The description for the drinks were not spot on. I wanted more of tart and ordered one with that description, it sounded pretty good, but when the drink came out it was more sweet than tarty. It was okay. Coming from all the great cocktail bars in Prague, Loosbar didn't amaze us. It was nice to stop in for a cocktail but we probably could have skipped it. Another down side: the inside was extremely smokey. It was a smoke box. I felt like I was going to die of lung cancer when I walked in. A smokers paradise I imagine. Just not for everyone. So we sat outside. Service was friendly, he came out and took our orders. It was fast.

The only bad reviews are from people that don't realize this is a Cigar bar/lounge. GREAT atmosphere, bartenders are awesome and friendly, met some great people here. Highly recommend if youre just visiting. Miz of locals and tourists.

I had a really unpleasant experience here last night. I came solo to celebrate my birthday and sat at the bar. A few businessmen chatted me up, but after speaking with them for a few minutes, I disengaged from the conversation. After they left, the bartender - who had been chuckling at me all night - commented on the attention they had been paying me. I smiled and agreed that it was a lot. He then asked me "why are you so provocative?" I think this may have been a language barrier - perhaps he meant "flirtatious" - but implying that I had courted an inappropriate amount of attention was unacceptable. When I expressed my frustration later, he essentially told me that European women wouldn't have spoken to these men at all. I've traveled quite a bit to other bars at European cities and I've never had any staff at any bar feel as though it was acceptable to comment on my behavior in this way. I appreciate the attempt to apologize. The glass of birthday champagne was nice too, I guess. I would hope that in 2023, bartenders would feel more concerned about ensuring their women patrons feel comfortable than making jokes at their expense, but I guess we're not there yet, culturally.

Came to Vienna for work and stopped by this bar, despite the limited space(it is really very small), the ambience and music are both great, drinks are mediocre though.

Bartenders and drinks = 5 stars Atmosphere = 1, so I'm giving this place a 3. This review is geared toward Americans that appreciate non-smoking bars. (If you want to smoke or it doesn't bother you, then you'll love this little bar.) While we loved our cocktails and appreciated the friendly, talented bartenders we couldn't stay for more than one round because everyone around us was smoking (and on the pretentious side). Highly advise to avoid this place if you're like us and don't like smoking. It was just too much to be able to enjoy our time there.

Absolutely delicious craft cocktails! Wonderful bartenders and lovely old world ambiance. A absolute must try if you are in the mood for a tasty beverage...or two. Highly recommend!

They really know their stuff as far as making the right cocktail. Their menu is versatile and the cocktails are very smooth. I highly recommend however that you enjoy a drink outside; in they bar, the locals smoke indoors.

Right off the Kärntnerstrasse is this great little cocktail bar. Small but cosy this is a good place to while away a few hours talking and drinking with a loved one or friends. Just make sure you get a table and don't move from it. With only two smallish table this may be a feat in itself. The bar menu is extensive but a little overpriced I feel. Everyone was very friendly and helpful but unfortunately my drink order got mixed up and I was given an incorrectly made cocktail, despite explaining EXACTLY what I wanted. Wasn't a huge issue but I expect more for these prices. Not a bad place but wouldn't be a regular hangout for me.

Definitely snooty like Agnes said. It was packed around 10pm on a Saturday night. But instead of offering you a seat outside or asking you to wait, they just tell you they are full and you can't come in. So we walked around and checked out some other places and thought we would check it out again around midnight. Well, there was room this time, but we walked in and walked right back out. It was gross. Small, dim, dingy, and completely filled with smoke! Probably the nastiest place you can go as a non-smoker. I don't care how good their expensive drinks could be, no thanks.

Not tourist friendly despite being advertised all over the place. The building itself is a delight but the service was slow and very impolite. It's pretty clear that the management do not want tourists coming to this bar - or if they do they only want them to buy some drinks, huddle quietly in a corner and do nothing that might disturb the regulars. The management have a choice. If the regular customers really matter so much that they are openly treated better than tourists then they should make the business a going concern without tourist money. So either raise prices or make it a members only club with membership fees or drop the stuffy attitude. If you're feeling naughty go inside, have a look around and then leave without buying anything or ask them if they changed its name from 1917 to 1918 and 1941 to 1945. if you do go make sure you tip like an American which in my case was quite cheap because the American rate for lousy service is 0%. I shall not be returning.

Much like everywhere I've been in Vienna the staff was very friendly. The bar however is Small, very smokey, and overpriced. Not sure how the price rating was established on here but it's not accurate. I'd recommend going to Dinos for better cheaper drinks and a better experience overall

Snooty, overpriced and stuffy- not my kind of bar. The building's unique architecture is highlighted in travel guides, but it's only worth the visit if you have money to burn, are dressed to impress and are willing to hang around middle-aged people. The mirrored effects and luxe tile work create an illusion of making the interior bigger than it is, but the area still felt cramped with only a couple booths, a short bar and a couple patio tables. Tourists are discouraged from visiting - hence the "no photography" sign and servers vigilantly telling anyone with a camera phone to put it away. I can understand this level of exclusivity ... but then I overheard bartenders sharing some unnecessary comments with regular customers about experiences they have had in which tourists would walk into the bar to take a photo - and how annoying that was to them.

Loosbar is a classic! It is a high class cocktails bar! Interior design is special and extremely small bar. It is usually full especially during the weekend! In the summer you can sit outside until 23.00 or so. I don't go there so often, just when I feel like having good cocktails and enjoy the bar. It has a different aura and I like it. Of course you can get cocktails for cheaper price in many places in Vienna but this place is just different.

Missing this place if you are in Vienna would be a mistake. Great patio to sit on and enjoy the wonderfully prepared cocktails! Face it, you can't drink beer all the time as you travel through central Europe, so when you are ready for a proper cocktail hit Loos!

Stop in here for a cocktail and read the history of the bar in their menu book. The place is definitely influential in Vienna and a historical site.

I'm an architect. It was made by Loos. It's small but quaint. It has a perfect old fashion. The luxurious interior is emphasized by its lovely wait staff and local plus tourist mingling in a trend contemporary fashion. Need I say more

If an antismoker like me rates a smoky place like Loosbar with 5 stars, then it must mean something. Maybe I was just lucky to get to know it through a friend who used to work there as a student. Maybe it helps that at least a couple of shots are usually on the house whenever we drop by. But I find Loosbar very special. Amazing architecture of this bar-museum is accompanied by great service of highly professional, charismatic bartenders, who mix excellent drinks and spread good mood. I could even say, Loosbar helped me rediscover cocktails. Obviously, I had had so many very average cocktails in my life, that I started to believe that cocktails can't get better than that. And it would be a pity to think so, because here you will definitely experience new levels of taste. Flying Kangaroo got to be my absolute favourite, because it is so perfectly balanced between sweet and sour and alcoholic and aromatic...none of it dominant, smooth as can get. You know immediately that the real pros are at work here. Because the other day I ordered an expensive cocktail again somewhere else - a well-rated restaurant with a bar - and guess what, it was average as ever. Not only mixed by a cool guy who thought smiling is not cool - it was just alcohol and syrup that never fully combined. So I decided, if I want a cocktail from now on, it can only come from the top-notch bartenders. And Loosbar is one perfect example of where they can easily be found.

Very very small and the drinks were overpriced. The bartenders were OK not really friendly but not rude. Did I mention it was small? Coming from NY with the smoking ban I forgot what it was like to be in a small room where people are smoking. It's unpleasant in case you didn't know.

Wedged between a children's clothing store and a strip club, the 101 year old Loos Bar is the inspired work of pioneering modern architect Adolf Loos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Loos) . Hardly larger than a music box, having a drink in this intimate bar feels as wonderful as if drinking in a walnut and amber inlaid jewellery box. Best seat in the house? Back of the room on the couch perpendicular to the bar: watch the world stroll in, marvel at the masterful bartenders crafting excellent cocktails and bask in the soft glow of the massive backlit amber front wall. A very small bar in the center with apparently an interesting history matching its interior and frequented by famous Austrians. I heard rumours you could (in the past?) get to the strip club next door through the cellar. I visited this place with a couple of German colleagues and the waiter was actually friendly to us. For one, I asked whether he could recommend me a particular good Schnaps. He told me he could sell me something they have but recommended me to rather buy one of the brands he wrote down for me that they actually did not serve. I think this was very decent of him.

An excellent spot for quality cocktails and lounge atmosphere. Every cocktail--seriously, every cocktail--is superb.

Great architecture, but drinks at a fairly poor level. Ice not crushed and fills more than 50% of the volume of your glass. Finally, you hardly find any other guests than tourists. A place you should have seen but not twice.
