LOQUAT Nishi Izu (Izu, Shizuoka Prefecture) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"There’s nothing in Japan or anywhere else quite like Loquat Nishi-Izu. Here the centuries-old home of a prominent local family has been transformed into a self-described Italian auberge — a ryokan-like experience that departs from the norm in memorable ways. The main house is home to Takeru Quindici, an Italian restaurant overseen by European-trained Japanese chefs. Two adjacent buildings contain the two on-site suites, each one a spacious and nearly self-sufficient private residence, furnished with en suite spring-fed baths. An on-site bakery serves French pastry and house-made gelato; nearby is Villa Suguro, an additional two-bedroom villa." - Tablet Hotels

Staying at this place has been one of the best experiences of our lives at a stay. We took Shinkansen from Tokyo to Mishima and the hotel organized a Taxi for us which took about an hour to take us to the Hotel. The trip itself is great as well as you can see a lot of Japan’s countryside. After we arrived, Amy welcomed us and the check in was smooth, after which they showed us our Villa (Ryoken). For a first time visitors in Japan, my wife and I were in awe from this place. It had everything, traditional Japanese architecture, peaceful and lovely environment, stunning views, great onsen, comfortable beds … it was just 10/10. Then, things just kept getting better. The lovely staff took us to the restaurant where we had one of the most unique dining experience ever. Again, the staff was amazing and the Chef is a complete artist. He literally had a sketch book of his menu which he then converted to a food-art that was as delicious as it looked. The chef is one of a kind artist!! In the morning, a Japanese style breakfast was prepared for us in the villa which was SUPERB. Overall, we are going to remember this place for the rest of our lives. Thank you LOQUAT.

Is over my expectations, service super good, very delicious food . Room super nice, I will stay again soon. Highly recommend for couple , everything are perfect.  stayed in the biggest villa , I was the best experience in my life . Only the thing not prefect was no parking inside the hotel due to the villas are 170 years so no space for it . But very very good . 👍👍👍

We stayed for two nights, one night in the Loquat Sanno kura (the duplex room), and the other night in the Loquat’s villa Suguro. ||The concept of Loquat is very different from other onsen hotels. The hotel main site has only two rooms (or I will say two small houses), a restaurant with its own bakery, a gelato shop , and a mini bar (with two tables only). It’s a historic site so you will be amazed by the old building structure. The interior, however, is fully renovated with modern furniture decorations. Each room has its own outdoor onsen. We stayed in Sanno kura which is a duplex where the living area and bathroom are on the ground floor and the tatami style beds are upstairs. We like the room design and the decor is comfortable. ||Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the staff and directed to our room. Welcome drinks and gelato were served, the staff spoke fluent English and very attentive, everything seemed good until there was a big cockroach running out from the toilet which shocked us all. We got rid of it eventually and the staff brought us a can of pesticide spray just in case. They offered to switch us to the other room, but I thought it was just an odd incident so we declined. Still, play safe, we did spray the pesticide in the living room before we went out to dinner. Dinner was great and it was Italian fine dining, unlike the typical Kaiseki style traditional Japanese meal in most onsen hotels. Later that night, we found a gecko in the shower and another cockroach in the living room. I was so uncomfortable and decided to switch the room the next morning. They offered to upgrade us to the villa this time. The villa is about 10 min drive from the main site. The villa is very spacious for just the two of us. It has a kitchen with a dining area, a living room and two bedrooms. Apart from the outdoor onsen, it also has a steam room which is very relaxing for me as I didn’t sleep well the night before. We were happy about the arrangement, but again, later that night, I was horrified by the invasion of a huge spider about 15 cm long, crawling in the living area. Totally disturbing for me and I could not sleep well that night. We sprayed so much pesticide in the living area that we found the dead bug lying in a corner of the kitchen the next day. ||I understand that this is located in a rural area, but the management could have done a better job in pest control to prevent this from happening. I travelled to some southeast Asian countries where the hotel villas also located in the woods or by the beach where there are lots of insects, but those hotels still manage to keep the residence clean and free of ‘big’ bugs. Never had I encountered any incident like this (in fact, cockroaches can be a serious hygiene issue) and I could not imagine this happened in Japan. The villa is meant to be a great escape from the city and a quiet relaxing place to stay. But with the insects joining us as company…. That’s a big disappointment. ||I do appreciate the staff are helpful and understanding. The breakfast and dinner are also delicious. But with such an expensive price, I think the place needs a better housekeeping and maintenance plus a very intensive pest control service to live up to its expectations.

We recently spent two nights at Loquat during our holiday and were really happy about our stay! The hotel is beautiful, well kept and feels very intimate because it offers only 2 rooms. The rooms are very comfortable and have a private hot bath on the terrasse which was great to unwind after a day out and about. The restaurant serves very high quality food with an Italian touch to Japanese cuisine. It is a set menu but it changes every night. We appreciated the fact that the chef used very local and seasonal product ( some from their own garden!) Finally, special thanks to Yutaro who made our stay memorable with his friendliness and professionalism. He made sure we had everything we needed and spoke excellent English. We left Loquat feeling very relaxed and happy. We highly recommend this gem!

We, me and wife stayed at their exclusive and independent cottage called “Suguro” for a night.|In conclusion, the premises was superb in terms of accommodations, facilities AND of course sophisticated services.|Very specious 180 sqm, 100 years old, but fully renovated consists of exterior private hot spring bath, a kind of steam sauna, bed room, living&kitchen, Japanese traditional Tatami mat room, study room, balcony with river stream, even with great sound audio system provide the most relaxing time in the nature.|Fusion Italian with a sense of Japanese artistic additions with paired glacé of wine at main dinning was also incredible. The breakfast was authentic with local vege, fish and ingredients.|I’ve been staying a bunch of lux hotels, however this was really one of tops!!
