Loreto, Mexico Travel Guide

"Growing connectivity at the international airport has helped raise the destination's profile: Alaska Airlines offers seasonal daily flights from Los Angeles and less frequent service from San Francisco and San Diego; American Airlines flies direct from Phoenix and Dallas; WestJet operates direct flights from Calgary. Travelers are cautioned that drives to regional hubs can be long—La Paz and Los Cabos are roughly four and six hours away, respectively—so a direct flight is recommended when possible." - Carley Rojas Avila Carley Rojas Avila Carley Rojas Avila is a bilingual travel writer, editor, and content marketer. I departed Baja California Sur (B.C.S.), Mexico from Loreto International Airport (Aeropuerto Internacional de Loreto) in mid-March 2025. It's a small airport with one terminal and one security checkpoint. There are a few small cafés that sell snacks and souvenirs.

Very small and straight forward airport. We just landed today and the experience was great. No waiting anywhere. Very fast in and out. I’ll update this in a few days when is time to flight back. Hope is also great.

Small, but very efficient international airport. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is there’s no duty free to spend your leftover pesos. I wish American airports took security as seriously as LTO

Great little airport that is well done and efficient. Do not, I repeat, do not buy a beer at the airport bar while you are waiting for your ride to arrive. Mucho expensive! lol

The beauty of this airport is the bar to gate ratio is nearly even. It's bar crawl heaven. You can hit five bars in about as many steps.

Small town airport but haven't encountered issues so far. Cad rental agencies are pretty pricy so book ahead of time and don't do it in person. They have plenty or restrooms for such a small place (think corner store small). Establishment is for the most part clean. They have 2 bars pre-check in and one bar past the security gate. One snack bar on each side. Lots of hotels in town, about a 4 minute drive. It's hot in Baja so be prepared to wait outside to board and exit the plane in 95 degree weather. I also noticed some people were having issues with their fishing gear and golf club cases. Customs can be a pain

It's small and clean with helpful staff. The rental agents have always been great to work with. Just relax and don't be in a hurry, you'll be enjoying the beauty of Loreto before you know it.

Small airport but very nicely done! The process to both rent and return a car was fairly efficient. They’re a lot more picky about the condition of the car out and in than the states. Checking bags was quick. Getting through security was way faster than back in the US. While waiting for our flight to depart we ate some food at a place called Escala Café. It was reasonably priced and quite delicious! My family and I went through the airport in early January so it wasn’t really hot outside yet. The terminal was comfortable with plenty of seating.
