Wineries in Temecula are known for different things - there's the winery w/ horses, the dog-friendly winery, the Instagram chic winery; the winery with bread. Lorimar is definitely known as the winery for live music. Because they have live music EVERY DAY. They also have a nice art gallery and gift shop. Wines were pretty good overall. Food looked good too, but we had just eaten, so didn't try any this time.
We came in today after lunch for the live music. It was Rick Hildebrandt, singing and playing guitar on the patio, 12-4; all great songs; we really enjoyed it. We shared a tasting while were at it - six 1-oz pours for $25; there's a 20% off coupon on one of the Temecula maps that we used. They are known more for their reds, than whites, so we tried all 6 reds.
Our favorite was the Tempranillo/Barbera blend - very good. Our second favorite was the Bordeaux blend. We also had the GSM, Malbec, Cab/ Mouvedre, and a Zinfandel (which we liked too). We're not exactly wine snobs, but we are part owners in a winery and know our way around wines, and the first wine we tried, a GSM, was definitely corked. We told our server, Chris, that it was corked, and asked for a taste from another bottle. He tried it and insisted that it wasn't corked - that it was the taste of the "oak." We were concerned that if this was the "taste of the oak," that all the wines would be terrible, but that wasn't the case. The other wines were fine. This one was definitely corked. Oh well.
Service on the patio was not great. On the way out, we spotted about a dozen carafes of water, and I asked if I could bring one to our table. They told me no, but that since we checked in with the hostess, a server would be right with us and serve us water. Unfortunately, that was not the case. We were there for an hour and never had a server come, and we never received water. Oh well, again. Would still come back for the music, and maybe be more assertive next time about getting water and returning wine if it is corked.
