Come hungry, because if you don't, then you'll be taking a LOT home. If I didn't know better, I would say this is authentic Tex-Mex, but it is a LONG way from corporate chains and Los Alamos loads you up right.
Los Alamos is stuffed into a cozy corner in the bougie west side, right at the corner of 17th & Summit. For a small neighborhood, there's a lot of foot traffic because there are plenty of places to stop and browse. When you're hungry and want to be inside, then this is your jam. It is a *little* confusing when you first walk in, because to make an order, you have to go all the way to the back corner. Once you're there, though, your options abound. We sampled up the Street Taco Platter (six street tacos of different meats) and the variety does not disappoint. Everything is made to order, and since my wife doesn't really get down with cilantro, we skipped the cilantro & onions that can be sprinkled on our street tacos. That didn't matter, however, because the salsa(s), green especially, packed a punch. My fave was the chile Colorado, pork chunks, smothered in a flavorful red sauce; my wife really liked the brisket taco, and left no traces of it.
We ordered up a pair of margaritas, which was a rookie mistake, because the margaritas are YUUUGE. It didn't matter, though, because in the end, most of both of those schooners were emptied. Their house margs line the rim of the glass with Tajin and pack a good punch of tequila & triple sec, and the lime accents are so flavorful. You can also do fruit margs (mango, strawberry, etc.) or just stay OG.
Parking is whatever, because it's the west side and space isn't exactly abundant. Prices are on par with the area and for the flavor and portion size you receive, the value is totally there. Apparently Los Alamos has an authentic buffet on Fridays, so we may be back for that. But stop in and make this a destination if you're on the west side.
