After five days in wonderful Oaxaca, we had a delicious final night dinner at Los Paco’s. Located in the Xochimilco neighbourhood. It is off the Zona Rosa beaten path but well worth the walk. The restaurant entrance is slightly hidden down a small alleyway. The restaurant itself is quite attractive with many tables under a large Palapa. What drew us to the restaurant was the opportunity to sample seven house made Moles. After being seated and ordering our delicious drinks (I had a tuna Mescalita which was my first), Laura, the owner, brought out a sample of the 7 moles and described each of them to us. She had a sample each mole, first with a piece of homemade tortilla, and then with a spoon to get the full flavours of the individual moles. The different flavour profiles of each mole were highlighted. They were all delicious. My wife and I then each chose to sample two of the moles on a plate with rice and delicious fried plantain. You can also sample three moles. My wife had the green and yellow mole, one with chicken and one with pork. I had the green mole and the capery stew mole with chicken. We both thoroughly enjoyed our choices. There are many other options on the menu, but the mole’s are the highlight. We had a fantastic meal and experience here and would highly recommend this restaurant.
