11 Best Hotels in Oaxaca, Mexico for 2025

"In the heart of one of Oaxaca’s oldest neighborhoods, Jalatlaco, Los Pilares combines traditional Oaxacan hospitality with modern amenities. Ground-floor rooms open up to the stately 17th-century hotel’s central courtyard, while those on the second story have views of the leafy terrace and plunge pool. The terrace doubles as the hotel’s restaurant, which offers an impressive collection of natural wines by the glass and bottle, and a menu that skews Mediterranean with tinned fish and hand-rolled pasta. Rooms are spacious and made to feel even more so thanks to soaring ceilings and functional furniture and built-ins."

The hotel has an excellent location. Our room was clean and fairly spacious, featuring a large bathtub in addition to a shower. However, it included a small section with a glass ceiling but no windows, which made it feel somewhat dark and claustrophobic. The biggest disappointment was the pool area, which was poorly maintained. The pool itself was not very practical, as the water only reached knee level. On a positive note, the service was attentive and helpful.

We stayed for 4 nights as a reference. The service is top notch and everyone was very friendly. The room was okay: the bed was harder than we’re used and you do get some outside noise in the mornings. The ac worked no problems and the shower had plenty of hot water and warmed quickly. The rooms do show their use and have a few dings and marks on the walls and ceilings. The pool is small but cozy and clean. The hot tub is more of a jet pool. The terrace offerings were very good for lunch and they made some great drinks. They do close at 6pm which is a bit of a shame since we wanted to have a dinner in one night. The location of the hotel is okay, as you’ll need to do a 5-10 min walk to get to the more active parts of centro. It felt safe to walk around 8-10pm no problem. We didn’t stay out later than that. At night we were able to get in quickly without any wait.

Would definitely come back! The staff were all very helpful. So beautiful. Great location for walking to various parks and restaurants. Loved the restaurant in the hotel. Breakfast IS NOT included with stay, fyi.

Very nice hotel. Beautiful courtyard, pool and rooms. We had a lovely stay, and the staff were very welcoming. The only draw backs are that the WiFi was quite poor and that the TVs could use an update. While the location is a little out of the center, we found that to be a plus as it allowed us to explore and get out of the main area when we wanted to.

We were passing by and curious about the rooftop terrace, it’s a beautiful spot to sit and have a refreshment. We only had beer and the cucumber basil cocktail, which was perfect.

The patio bar was an oasis when sorely needed. We will stay at the hotel next time we are in Oaxaca. Beautiful setting and such lushness. Wonderful light snacks. The service was most congenial. The coffee was excellent. The front desk clerk needs a personality transplant. What a contrast with the bar staff.

This wonderful hotel was absolutely perfect! The location was great & the food there at the hotel was delicious. The best part about it was the staff. Brenda, Roque, Adrian and all other staff were more than accommodating. They offered us the best service anyone could ask for. Including directions to local Mercados, birdwatching day trips to the Sierra Juárez and other places to see. Thank you to all the staff. See you again next year!

Our room and bath were 1st rate. Beautiful boutique hotel. Breakfast is not traditional fare but still the best breakfast I've had in a while. The hotel itself is also beautifully done. The staff is very attentive and kind. The neighborhood is fantastic. Boulenc is 2 blocks away. Have breakfast there too. Best croissant I've ever had. On the down side, there are no railings for stairs including the pool which is dangerous if you require railings. The pool is small, like postage stamp small, and the hot tub requires 90 minutes to heat up, so you have to give notice to the staff when you want to use it. The pool is not heated. I would go there again.

Yelp
During a recent visit to Oaxaca, I tripped on an even sidewalk & required medical care including the use of a wheel chair. The staff was extremely kind & helpful...arranged room service so I could eat. This is my third time to stay in this hotel & I highly recommend for location, service & onsite restaurant. There help following my accident was a life saver

Yelp
Charming hotel/restaurant. You don't have to stay here to enjoy their rooftop café which is what we did. We came by for breakfast one day since it was really close to our Airbnb. The rooftop is beautiful and filled with gorgeous plants. The Croque Madame was excellent and the nut bread was delicious. Desayuno perfecto! Not sure if they serve other meals here as well but I wouldn't doubt it. Stay here or swing by for a meal. It's lovely.

Yelp
I rate this hotel as a good value overall, buoyed by its friendly, attentive staff and excellent on-site restaurant/bar. Rooms are basic but very clean, with decent linens and consistently thorough housekeeping. There was a basket of chocolates and small bottle of mezcal on arrival :) In my opinion the mattresses and pillows were a bit hard and our room had 2 *double* beds so if you want a queen or a king be sure to ask. The hotel is 15-20 minutes walk from the town center, which was fine for our group (if a bit repetitive considering our ten-day stay). There are several quaint local restaurants within a few blocks of Los Pilares for nights when you might want to stay close. Breakfasts at the hotel restaurant are pleasant and affordable affairs under the canopy of trees, and the waitstaff aim to please. The rooms do not have windows so no natural air flow or light but each room does have an air conditioner. The courtyards offer lots of common area seating. The pool is not for swimming but dipping, and the hot tub temperature has a range of 15 degrees lol but honestly for around a hundred bucks per night (Christmas week!) I'm not going to complain about that. Tips: the staff at reception can arrange daily drivers for tours outside the City (we did this twice and were very pleased; the vans were immaculate and the drivers were quite competent and friendly). In-room refrigerators are an option at no additional cost. Try the mezcal margaritas, so good!

Yelp
I love this little charming hotel, located just 10 minutes by foot to the center where you can visit all the markets and the beautiful Santo Domingo church. The service and food were amazing. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to visit this little gem of a city. Thank Pilar and Lorenzo for making my experience there absolutely amazing!
