We rented a house for our lengthy stay in Albuquerque which meant we cooked our own meals most nights -- but we did want to dine at some of the better places in town during out visit -- so, we decided to dine at Los Poblanos twice, once for dinner and once for breakfast.
Our dinner was outstanding. As a gin fanatic, I started with a cocktail featuring their signature house made gin. A tasty amuse bouche, along with the cocktail, awakened my palate and I was ready for more. Next up was a ceviche, enhanced with the Southwest flavors of cilantro and pickled green chile. For my entree I selected their braised lamb. It was tender and succulent. It too was accompanied by regional vegetables and spices. The selection of wine was top notch and their suggested pairings complemented the meal to a tee. And of course, we finished up with dessert and a fortified wine to wash it down.
My wife ordered a dish featuring mushrooms grown by a local producer (NM Fungi). She was so impressed that she later looked up the grower and purchased a couple pounds of oyster mushrooms which we enjoyed in several homemade preparations over the next few weeks. I mention this because Los Poblanos uses as many locally produced products as they can -- whether from their own form, or other New Mexican enterprises. The lamb for my dish was locally sourced as well. A list of their many sources was included on the menu.
Near the end of our stay, we returned for breakfast -- chilaquiles, eggs sunnyside side up, beans and seasoned smashed potatoes for me, and the egg white omelet for my wife. I can't say breakfast wowed me as much as our dinner, but it was one of the best breakfasts I've had in a restaurant over the last several years.
And, as long as you are visiting for a meal, you better check out their farm shop as well. My wife found a number a lavender based products to purchase as souvenirs and gifts, and I grabbed a couple bottles of their gin along with a book about gin and gin cocktails.
