Los Potros Restaurant

Ordered takeout from Los Potros in Tracy and it was a frustrating experience. We ordered multiple burritos (including pastor and a breakfast burrito with sausage) and when we got home, the burritos that were supposed to have meat basically did not have the meat at all. On top of that, the vegetarian/breakfast burrito situation was mixed up too, so it felt like the proteins were getting swapped around. We ended up having to drive back so they could remake them. They did remake them and it was better the second time, but it should not take a return trip to get the order right. The whole fried red snapper was also not good. It tasted like it had no seasoning, just fried, and the garlic sauce that came with it tasted really bitter and didn’t go with the fish at all.

A local business and a family favorite, you can never beat the feeling of community like Los Potros. I went with my partner’s family on a Saturday night, and there was just enough space to seat everybody. I was told that this was their all-time favorite restaurant, compared to the other two Mexican taquerias (Jorge’s and La Mexicana), so I had to experience it for myself. We began our meal with a refreshing glass of horchata. The quality was impeccable, capturing the perfect balance of sweetness and spice — it wasn’t too sweet neither was it too watered down. It tasted really creamy and rich, and the cinnamon-infused flavor were a testament to the care and traditional methods likely were used. It was the ideal accompaniment, setting a delightful foundation for the rest of our culinary journey. The camarón a la plancha, which was my main dish, was presented with artistic flair, exemplifying sufficient plating that was both appetizing and aesthetically pleasing. Each seafood element was grilled to perfection, offering a delightful medley of textures and flavors that danced on our palates. The slight char from the grill enhanced the natural sweetness of the shrimp honestly, making each bite a flavor-packed experience. A key highlight of our meal was the tortillas—both corn and flour. The tenderness of the tortillas was noteworthy, likely crafted in-house with attention to authenticity and freshness. The corn tortillas were soft and subtly sweet, complementing the savory dishes perfectly, while the flour tortillas were equally tender, providing a light and pliable option to accompany the meal. The cleanliness of the restaurant was impeccable, reflecting a high standard of care and consideration for their patrons. Each table was spotless, and the ambience was calming and inviting. This attention to detail extended beyond the immediate dining area, imbuing a sense of safety and comfort that underpinned our entire experience. Overall, not only did we enjoy a delicious meal, but the environment and service collectively ensured that our visit was memorable. It was evident that this establishment takes pride in offering not just good food, but a comprehensive dining experience for everyone.

It's a good Mexican restaurant Good service, you have to share the table Variety of Mexican dishes

A nice stop for tacos and chile verde. The paintings reminded us of a Zacatecas trip. The food was tasty, we loved the extras on the tacos: grilled onions and jalapenos. Tripas was crisp and well done as well as the quesobirria. The chile verde had the proper tang and the tortillas were fresh. Don't forget to share a flan for dessert, nice consistency and flavor. Service is nice and efficient.

We tried this restaurant first time, ordered 3 street tacos and a supper burrito. It’s exceeded our expectations! It tastes great, we love their food! It’s too much for too of us :)

It was wonderful. Anyone from Tracy must go here. So fresh and hot cooked to order and they customize as requested. Thank you Los Potros for being a long time Tracy great eatery. Chris and Julia Mitchell

Delicious , home- cooked food, authentic , enchiladas . My husband is Mexican, and loves this food. Caldo de Res. Chili Verde. Fajitas. Breakfast, 24/7.

The food is fantastic and large portions. They're very nice and attentive. We go there for breakfast every time we're in Tracy

Los Potros was a tasty Mexican restaurant and a great spot to enjoy a meal with friends. We started with the complimentary nachos served with their signature white sauce and fresh salsa--such a delicious way to kick things off. The fajita steak salad was packed with flavor, featuring tender slices of steak with crispy onions and peppers, all topped with lettuce, cheese, and sour cream. To top it off, the rum punch and Bahama Mama were fruity, refreshing, and absolutely delicious!

I have been going here for years and the food and service have always been phenomenal! The restaurant is good for families and friends to come and enjoy some authentic Mexican food. The ambiance can range from lively to quiet depending on the time/day of the week.

It was my first time to try this place. Since it's my first time I just order a Al pastor taco. There were about 4 to 5 jalapeño which I took them off the taco. Then as I bite into it, it was so spicy and it tasted salty, and no pineapple. I was glad I only got one taco.

When in California it's hard to get bad Mexican food; there's good, better, and great. I'd put this place in the great category. Here's why: freshly handmade tortillas, home style food presented beautifully, and the family is just nice. I had the chilaquilles with steak -- a must-try. My friend had the menudo and said it was spot on.

First off the food. No matter what you order you cannot go wrong in this place. Food is always hot and fresh. Service is fast and the staff are always friendly. If you want authentic Mexican, this is always my go to in Tracy. And their salsa ...bomb! They never disappoint.

I parked in the dirt lot next to the restaurant. It's super small and you have to get lucky to find parking. The only downside is that you can get blocked in and have to completely reverse out like I did. When I arrived there were a lot of people walking out of the restaurant with takeout and people walking in to dine in. It's a small restaurant that seems to be very popular. We got there before a rush and were able to be seated right away. I orders a regular burrito and it was a decent size and affordable. It was also really good. The free chips and dip were also delicious. The service is quick too!

I'm new to Tracy, so I asked one of the local business owners where to find the best Mexican food in town, and he told me about this place. The food is great, and the servings are very good sized. I've found a few other places by just asking someone that's lived in town much longer than me. :)

My parents have came here a few times so wanted to check it out for dinner together. I ordered the super burrito wet with shrimp and red sauce and the portion is HUGE. Definitely do not skimp on the filling. I dont normally like red sauce but i actually did enjoy the red sauce from here. Service was extremely quick and staff were great. Would come again.

Come here every so often and each time I am never disappointed. The place is small and the parking lot is also small with a bunch of potholes. However the food is worth it. So full of flavor. They have lots of food options. They are usually pretty quick with making the orders or packing to go. I love the option of calling over the phone or ordering online instead of making orders to go in person. Prices are decent. Portion sizes are good. I will definitely continue to come here

Salsa and mole sauce outperforms local competition. Mom loved the burrito. I loved my camarones enchilada. Fresh tasty guacamole. Be patient for a table...it's worth it. Or, get take out.

This is a tiny local spot in Tracy that I found in a recent search. The food, service and value were fantastic... I highly recommend!

Hands down the best Mexican place in Tracy. I love, love love their carnitas burritos and chile verde.

Simply the best carnitas and pastor I've had full stop. Driving to Yosemite from the Bay Area, I wanted to include a few stops along the way. Tracy was a logical location to search out some local traditional Mexican food. I love Yelp! The Guzman family at Los Potros have created a restaurant that is the perfect palate for their passion and creativity. Their Carnitas and Pastor are the best I've had not only in Tracy but in Northern California and that includes the Mission in San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley. My street tacos with traditional Carnitas and Pastor were so simple, but full of flavor and texture. I was so impressed with the street tacos that returned from my trip to Yosemite 4 days later to try their Enchiladas de Mole de Pollo. The lovely lady that served me was incredibly proud when she placed the plate in front of me that included 2 mole enchiladas with chicken, rice and beans - all for $14.00! The mole - an old family recipe was complex, chocolaty with deep flavors of roasted peppers and almonds. I savored every bite. Matt says if you find yourself near Tracy, or maybe on a road trip to Yosemite, think about a stop at Los Potros for a culinary experience you will never forget.

Food good Service good Ambiance ok All of our plates good, especially the chili relleno burrito. I would comeback again

Found this place, although it looks interesting from outside , it's very clean and cozy once you walk in. We were a party of 12, they got us table right away. Nice servers, if you're expecting like fast food style ( taqueria ) , it's not, we did wait a little bit for our food, but you can tell, they made it from fresh, the ingredients are fresh & tasty.

It was a convenient place to meet in Tracy and it seemed like the reviews were pretty decent. I believe the restaurant is family owned and based on the persons that work there and their interaction with the customers as they came in it seems so my lunch friend had the whole red snapper with the garlic sauce that she really enjoyed. I had the wet burrito Famoso, which was very good. It was covered with one of the better red sauces that I've had. The server recommended carnitas and it didn't disappoint. There is nothing special about the interior which is OK because the emphasis is on the food.

I like getting food here but ordered an asada breakfast burrito today and wasn't real happy with it. It was all meat and a little bit of cheese and possibly one egg. It was a real meat bomb. It's really hard, it seems, for restaurants to get the portions right in a breakfast burrito. The ratio between eggs cheese meat and potatoes needs to be correct. This one was not even close.

We've always enjoyed this restaurant. All the food we've tried has been great. This time we had street tacos, kid's enchilada plate and a bean/cheese/rice burrito. All the meats were awesome. Our favorite was the al pastor, although it was slightly greasy. The chicken was shredded and flavorful. The carne asada is also good. My daughter enjoyed her enchilada plate and my burrito was great. All the servers were friendly and fast. The dining area is small but has several tables that are clean and cozy. They also have good drink selection. Overall it's a great local place, and we will definitely be back.

I highly don't recommend this place. This is the second time I order a super burrito with extra meat and extra beans and there is literally no meat at all. The first time I called and told them and they literally said bring the burrito back when I was already at work and had ate it. I gave it a second chance and it happen again I'm not gonna even bother calling. I'm just not gonna come here again. By the way I paid 18 dollars for just beans and little pieces of meat.

My husband and I were passing through and we really wanted a breakfast burrito. We stopped in here for a burrito and it was really good. I would definitely say this is a great spot to come for Mexican food and friendly service. The vibe of the restaurant is casual.

I love this place, the food is excellent! My favorite breakfast place. Now the negatives...even though they only have a few employees it seems there was a large price jump when the minimum wage law changed. That being said my normal breakfast choice is now almost $30!!! Also if you use a debit card add another charge. So now just going by myself for breakfast and not stopping at the bank first and trying to leave a decent tip almost $50. So being on a fixed income whereas I would go a couple times a month now its like once every couple of months, I just can't afford it anymore. I hope they don't close but now I can't do my part to help keep them open.

Los Potros is one of the best local Mom/Pop Mexican restaurants. I love that they have shredded beef as it seems harder to find in Nor Cal. It was a staple in San Diego restaurants. The chicken quesadilla was great and the rice is some of the best in the area. Bathroom was very clean, which is so important! Huge variety on the menu and children's menu also. We will be back!

This hole in the wall is amazing. Had the Chile Colorado, so delicious. My wife had the taco salad, she said it was great. Service was awesome.

Love the fried fish with the garlic butter on the side. Update: 2025, taco de tripitas al cien. El consome estuvo splendid. El servicio siempre perpetuamente amable y efficiente.

Where do we begin?!! This place has it all and when we mean all we mean all!! The menu is quite expansive and every item we ordered and watched come out was not only fresh but the smells of the food are not to be mistaken by the well experienced nose. We have eaten a lot of Mexican food in our lives and have been well traveled to many parts of Mexico and South America. We have never experienced food like this...!!! Sauces were home made and fresh from the red sauce on the chili Relleno that took my partner in crime back to his child hood reminding him of his Grandpa's homemade sauce. The tamales had the lightest and fluffiest maza I've ever experienced with plenty of meat and filling that was moist and just melted in your mouth. The tostada was hands down the best I've ever had the shredded beef seasoned to perfection and melted in my mouth with all the flavors from the cotija crumbles to the crunch of the tortilla. Street taco carne asada were delicious in itself definitely a must! Followed by the cheese enchilada the verde sauce with the perfect mix of tomatillos and chili's perfect balance of sweet meets heat balanced mild spice. Lastly the home made beans and rice so good we took them home because let's be honest our eyes were bigger than our tummy's lol! . Lastly some albodingas soup was ordered for take home for dinner not to mention the home made tortillas. IT did not disappoint. This little place, and I mean little; packs a punch of authentic homemade cuisine that's is "muy delicioso." It will definitely be worth the drive to return as I'm sure it will be on our list of all time favorites.

Terrible people. We got catering for a birthday party and nearly everyone got food poisoning. This was the only food at the event so it was for sure the cause. When we called to see what they would do about it they just deflected and would not stand behind their product; no refund nor apology. Will never go here ever again.

In town visiting family and craving Mexican food. Very excited to have found Los Potros. Went a little before they closed and ordered food for take out. The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated. It's a casual place and a couple families eating while we waited. The employees are very friendly and efficient. We ordered Ceviche, Bean & Cheese Burritos and Nachos. Everything was packed up well. Food was delicious and it really hit the spot. We will definitely be back.

This place will give you diarrhea. Not sure if it's the old, dry food being served or lack of proper hand-washing/food safety practices but it will have you on the toilet. Go to La Costa. It's so much better. Los Potros serves lukewarm, old food. No good at all.

The food was pretty good and the service was fairly quick. I got the cheese enchilada , I wish it was a little bit hotter food was a little cold and 2 carne Asada tacos. Wasn't a huge fan of the meat. Needed more flavor.

Very enjoyable, Super Burrito In general is massive enough to feed 2-3 people, I did get the Super Burrito Famoso, Pastor, good flavor, very enjoyable.. (Yes it's that big, I am not lying) The Jamaica was nice and subtle, not to sweet but not to bitter, good quality to feel satisfied. Spoiler, it is bigger than most people's head's, better be prepared if they mistake your burrito for your head.

This place is an all time favorite. Been coming here for more than 15 years. Food is amazing. Service is friendly. Ambiance feels just like home.

Wow wow wow. I truly love this place but took some family here for their first visit and was so disappointed. 3 out of the 4 plates we ordered were wrong. I asked for 2 crispy tacos with asada and was given chicken. We also ordered a chimichanga with carnitas but we were given chicken. I returned my plate and got it corrected but there was no apology or any consideration. The taco was delicious but my rice was reheated and as a result tasted hard. I think this easily could've been prevented if our waitress actually wrote down our order. $110 dollars later and so unsatisfied.

Was excited to try their albóndigas, since I've heard some raves about them. But was disappointed to find a dead fly as soon as I started to pour in to the bowl.

Sooo good! It's been hard to find a good Mexican food place in Tracy, we're from the bay so we are spoiled with great food. This place is my new favorite. Everything was bomb.com there horchata is sooo good none of that artificial flavor. I had their 7 mares soup, and their fish salad. Helllla good!

This spot was recommended by a friend from work. Been living in Tracy for over ten years and never tried this spot but I'm glad I did. So worth it! I brought my kiddos after church on Sunday and the place is tucked away in the corner street parking space is limited luckily we found a spot to park. As we walked in we were greeted by all the ladies who were working. We got seated and I just wanted to eat everything in the menu lol. The vibe was pretty chill love to see the variety of people enjoying the food. As we sat we were served chips and salsa. It didn't take much to know what we wanted lol kids said they differently loved the food and would love to come back and try more. The food was delicious very flavorful and cooked perfectly looking forward to coming back and trying some more

If you want some authentic Mexican food this is your place. Everything we've ordered here is delicious although my favorite is the Shrimp wrapped in bacon plate that comes with rice beans and a small salad. Parking is minimal but close, and the place is pretty small, but this is one hole in the wall you must frequent. Dont walk, run! Oh yeah, they do provide seating and the workers are always nice.

Let me start by saying I've come here a few times for breakfast and their chorizo and egg burrito is definitely a 9/ 10. This was our first time dining in and I hate that I'm a little disappointed. It's your basic cozy Mexican restaurant as far aesthetics. We were greeted immediately upon entry and seated with chips and salsa promptly. Service was great. Salsa was spicy. No complaints there I like spicy. However, I was really shocked about the portion sizes. To start the crispy tacos were buried underneath lettuce and I started to question myself thinking that I order flauntas instead, these were not sure smaller than your average taco shells and there was maybe one fork full of meat in each. Onto the chili Verde while it was seasoned decent again there wasn't very much. All in all I would go back for the street tacos and burritos. My search for great crispy chicken tacos is still in progress.

This is our go-to place for Mexican food. We haven't had a bad dish from them yet. Some of our favorites are the street tacos, breakfast or regular burritos (they're huge), and their chile relleno. They always seem busy but their service is fast and courteous. We get takeout all the time and they've never messed up our orders. Ordering online is easy as well. 5 stars!

We ordered over the phone - 2 chorizo breakfast burritos, one w/o potatoes. My hubs asked for the total and were told it was $17 plus some change. We figured $8/burrito + tax. My husband went to pick it up for us and I asked him to get some chips too while he was there. When he came home, he told me they charge for chips now. I don't remember them charging for chips before. Is it new? So our total was $19 and change. For $2 extra, their chips didn't taste fresh and lacked salt. The salsa that came w/it was good though. They didn't mark the burrito that had potatoes or no potatoes. Also, before rolling up the burrito in foil, they didn't pre-cut them in half for us. So we had to cut into them to guess which one had the potatoes and which didn't. Their breakfast burritos are tasty, but they are really skinny for a burrito!!!

Just wanna say, if I didn't have work soon, I would of stayed to fully stuff myself. On that note, WET BURRITO. Listen, it's a given. HECKA GOOD! Generous size and em red and green sauce, ugh, savory goodness. Its kinda missing a note of spiciness, its honestly great on it's own though, but there's sauces on the table to help with that. Otherwise, free salsa and chips when you dine in. Horchata, not bad, not too sweet, pretty solid (also free refill, just not to-go). My partner got chilaquiles con carne (steak). Lord have mercy, that plate was huge! Everything is more than worth the price. Great service, she's the one who told me to get carnitas for my wet burrito! Hole in a wall place, so don't let the parking deceive you!

This is the best place in Tracy to eat!!! Period! I absolutely love the food the service and the ambiance. I miss my abuela's kitchen!! I come here and it's just like home!! But you don't have to believe me try it for yourself! Delicious

Good food and Great service. Authentic Mexican food. Love their chicken soup and street tacos

First off, I cant believe i haven't written a review for here. I could've sworn I did, but better late than never. Los Potros is my go to for Mexican food here in Tracy and has been since I've lived here. The staff is warm, welcoming and always a positive experience. I mostly take out on doordash nowadays but I call in to make changes to my order and they are friendly and very accommodating. I speak to the same woman and she is a sweetheart. I can honestly say I've never had my order messed up here. Also I cant recall a bad meal either. My go to is the wet burrito (no sour cream, extra gravy lol) while my wife enjoys their birria. Fresh quality ingredients that don't disappoint! Give them a try and enjoy

Grabbed some breakfast burritos and they were great. Large and filling with real potatoes in it. Worth every cent. I will recommend this one lace for real comfort food.

This places amazing I come here every single day. The food is amazing. I 100% recommend the staff is amazing. The waiters are the nicest people you will ever meet.

My review is based on their tacos only. Los Porto's recently moved here within the last year or so. The restaurant is nice and clean. The staff are always a pleasure to deal with and food is always prepared in a timely manner. The street tacos are your typical size tacos. They put good size portions in the tacos and they are really tasty. They also have a cool salsa bar. The salsa bar has a bunch of squeeze bottles, which makes it convenient for the customer to add salsa to every bite. Their prices are extremely competitive for the quality of food they provide. Their burritos are as much as $4 cheaper and the tacos .75 cents cheaper than some other places in town. I recommend this place if you haven't tried it!

We have not been disappointed with any item and service staff. Our fav is the Burrito Famoso with pulled pork and red sauce. It is a large burrito that will have you walking away with another meal the next day. Small and quaint inside, always introduce your self to the table next to you. Folks support our small and local businesses.

Los Potros is a solid Mexican restaurant with a good variety on their menu. The menu prices are a little high. To feed 3 adults and one child it came to roughly $50 which seemed high to me considering there were no beverages and it was take-out only. Food - I had the chile verde which I found to be pretty good. The amount of pork they gave was a little underwhelming, but it was flavorful and the homemade corn tortillas they gave were very good. Rice and beans were both good so overall I enjoyed my meal. My daughter enjoyed her meal and the others enjoyed theirs too so overall I'd give the food a solid 4-4.5 stars. Definitely not the best we've ever had, but way above average too. Service - Not much can be said about the service. They were doing take-out only. We called in our order and I didn't have to wait very long to get my food. They were very busy between food delivery services, pickup orders and people ordering at the restaurant. The ladies were quite friendly so I'd say overall service was good. My only real gripe about Los Potros is it's a little pricey for what you get. Paying $14 for a meager portion of chile verde feels a bit underwhelming, but because they are nice and everyone else enjoyed their food I'm trying to let that slide. I take one star off just because it's not the most affordable place in town and there are other places in town with food just as good for less money. I would definitely return, but it definitely wouldn't be a normal stop for me just because my money can go further elsewhere.
