15 Best Mountain Towns in California

"Another California mountain town known for apples? Set in the San Bernardino Mountains (like Big Bear Lake and Lake Arrowhead), Oak Glen is home to acres of apple orchards, bed-and-breakfasts, and a family fun park. Head to Los Rios Rancho for seasonal pick-your-own experiences and have a slice of pie at Apple Annie’s — giant and domed like a mountain itself, Apple Annie’s signature pie could feed a dozen diners." - Chelsee Lowe Chelsee Lowe Chelsee Lowe is a Los Angeles-based writer with an obsession with good eats and interesting stories. If you’re looking to become one with nature but not take the hours long drive to Mammoth or Big Bear, this place is it! It was out of season for the berries and apples to pick but the trails have some of the most beautiful scenery you’ll find. If you love to hike there are plenty of trails including on that goes for 10 miles. There is a trail for all hiker types… the newbies, intermediates and advanced! Come here if you love nature and freshly made apple cider, you won’t be disappointed!

Los Rios suffered devastating loss due to wildfire and is coming back. They have a huge permanent tent that has a variety of apple products and various items for sale. I saw a petting zoo for the children. The entrance to the Botanical Garden is off the parking lot and offers nice paths to follow. There is plenty of parking, but it can be hard to find a spot during apple season, September, and October.

Amazingly fun. Long line to eat lunch so we opted for fresh apple pie. It was great. Bought some honey and oils from local vendors. Great place to take the family. Hayrides, apple butter sold, fresh apple pie . Live Music, petting zoo for the Lil ones . Had a blast

Lovely hidden gem in the San Bernardino mountains. Took my boys there today to do some apple picking & we had a great time. A huge selection of different types of apples & it’s pretty straight forward. They have clear bags sitting at a little booth, you just grab however many you want & start picking. You don’t pay until after you’re done, they weigh it & price is based on weight. We paid $4.50 / lb. They have a little store on site with some free samples to nibble on while you stand in line, some bbq outside on a smoker that smelled absolutely incredible, they have restrooms on site as well. It is pricey & it is a ton of walking! If you are going on a weekend, get there as soon as they open as it was insanely packed today (Saturday) so we had to park down below (parking is free) & walk up to the apple orchards. Wear comfy shoes & bring water! All in all, you should go for the experience at least once! We wanted to do the cider pressing, but it is an additional $35 for that so be prepared to spend a little money when you come here. We also bought a couple gallons of their fresh apple cider. For $25 / gallon, it is absolutely delicious. It’s so fresh & it tastes nothing like store bought apple juice. You can truly taste the difference & it is worth every single penny. We will definitely be back & a little more prepared next time!

Google
First time picking apples up here. Brought my New England born boo, who grew up surrounded by u pick em farms of all sorts. Was here on a warm September morning. This orchard is literally on the side of a mountain, so come prepared to walk up and down hills at elevation. You can press your own cider but you need to secure a time slot. The line to check out was a 20 minute wait and we were lucky it wasn't longer. Food, drink and bathrooms available on site.

We had so much fun in the petting zoo. Very friendly goats. Our friends' toddler had fun feeding the animals. We loved apple picking and will definitely be making it a yearly tradition. We took as many photos with the kids and animals as we could. They also had panning for gold and a coloring section for the kiddos. The BBQ was great, along with the cider! It was a little cold and they had heaters set up. Definitely a fun fall trip for the family.

Not only is the place super well spaced out, but the cider was delicious, their hard ciders are also very fresh and good, and their apple pie...I don't even like pie...genuinely could care less about it, but the apple pie was so so good, I would buy it to share with friends. The apple picking was great, so many good options and the venue itself is very clean and friendly. Recommend checking it out!

We had a great time here. The Tri tip Sandwich was small but mighty and the hot cider is a must try! I also highly recommend walking around the trails to see boardwalks and the lakes! Love that this place is dog friendly too!

Yelp
Great place to have fun with a group of friends and/or family. Discovered this gem last year and it's now become a tradition. The apples are perfectly ripe and delicious to eat. It's great that they have signs that inform you what sections are open and tell you what area of apples are not ready for picking. I was lucky this last time because they just opened a section so there were an abundance of apples to pick and no one there. When I left, the crowd started to come as the word got out. Heads up: it is quite a walk up to some of the apples. Highly recommend wearing comfortable shoes as you will be hiking unless you're just there for the photos. There are apples to get your photo on in the front but those ones are often picked at and have barely any apples on them. Also, be prepared to walk in dirt from the moment you park to picking apples to whatever you plan to do on site.

Yelp
Looking for something cutesy to do this fall? I highly recommend going apple picking! Pick out a cute fall outfit, get together some friends and family and take some great pictures. Apple picking is the perfect outdoor activity to do between Halloween and Thanksgiving! They had a huge selection of apples. Disclaimer: picking isn't as easy as it seems since you have to watch out for apples with holes. I suggest using their handy apple picking tools to reach the high up ones. Remember to look out for some that have plenty of sun shining on them, they tend to be the sweetest. We went on a Saturday and although it was packed, parking was super manageable! We ended up baking a pie with our pickings!

Yelp
10/13/24 Fun Family Day at Rileys at Los Rios Ranch!!! Especially on WEEKENDS, definitely get there BEFORE 11:30 parking is FREE BUT extremely difficult to find after this time. *****SPECIAL NOTICE: I really should've DOCKED 2 stars simply because the staff directing traffic/parking DIDN'T ALLOW my aged parents (with handicap placard) to be dropped off past the entrance to the parking. Our vehicle could've turned into the lot to drop them off because of their difficulty in ambulating. The staff said "it'll block traffic" As our van drove off, he proceeded to allow a couple of cars into the lot. That was extremely rude & uncalled for/-- especially for HANDICAP people. Due to this, my parents stayed at the picnic area and were not able to go apple picking with us. Despite this mishap, the rest of this trip was fun filled. Parking was a bust in the lot because it was full so we ended parking on the street. Highly suggest coming early on the weekends (before 11 am should be good) Entrance to the apple picking is free but the activities have fees (ax throwing, petting zoo (feed), tractor ride $6/pp to pick fuji apples (further up or maybe 10-15 walk uphill). There are other attractions & vendors that sell bbq, lemonade, apple cider tastings, kettle corn apple pies & cider, etc. There was a live band playing as well. The staff (except for the one who was directing traffic/parking) were friendly & helpful. For apple picking, it's $4.50/lb but it's less if you buy 10 lbs or more. You are not allowed to eat while picking (but who's watching? hahaha). There are many varieties, many of which I have not ever heard or encountered such as gravenstein apples. Do try the freshly made & chilled apple cider, very good & refreshing (for prices see photo please). Please bring water because water (16 oz bottle is $2.75 and it was supposed to be chilled, it was not, on a hot day, no less!). We brought our own food & drinks and had ourselves a picnic on the other side where all the other activities were. The botanical garden is free but we didn't get to venture out there, maybe next time if we decide to visit this orchard again. The kids & adults in our group had fun picking, looking for the bigger fruit to brag about (lol). The apple I tasted was okay, not sweet, crunchy, not juicy, maybe best for baking. Overall, for the first time experience, it was good, could've been better had we known to get there before 11 am due to parking issues. We almost gave up & we were going to Sky-line instead because parking situation there was much better. My sister headed there first & scoped it out but my brother said we had originally planned for Riley's-- so Riley's won this time. Knowing what I know now, perhaps we will give the other apple orchard a try next. My parents not being allowed to be dropped off & join us for this first time event (apple picking with family)? Riley's, that was a huge let down in my book. Better plan for next time, hopefully a better experience, at another orchard. So many to choose from.

Yelp
We love Los Rios! It's really a one stop shop. If you only have time for one apple picking farm this is the one especially if you have kids. The food is really good - they do killer barbecue! The staff are friendly, I've never had any issues. The only down side is the apple picking is across the street from the little zoo, barbecue, and wagon ride. We usually start out parking in the Apple picking side and spend some time there. It's a huge property and depending on what apples are available for picking you could be doing a great deal of walking. It's all on a hill too so be prepared. They also have other activities available there and a little store and some seating. After picking to our heart's comment we make our way down to the other side of the road. The barbecue is killer! Always delicious. The zoo is my kids' favorite part because you can pay a little extra and feed the animals! They give you a plate of carrots and lettuce and you can feed all kinds of animals. They have a little packing for gold area in the zoo too which is so cool. The stagecoach ride is great too! Such beautiful views and great information about the property and surrounding areas. The guides were very knowledgeable (look up the Great Emu War). We had a blast and we will definitely be back.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I visited Oak Glen this past weekend and made a stop at Riley's at Los Rios Rancho. This basically is a one stop shop with different amenities available (e.g., pie shop, cider company, bbq pit, apple picking, and gift shop). The apple picking starts at 10 AM but you can come earlier to check out the gift shop before it gets busy we arrived at 10:16 AM on a Saturday and was able to find close parking in the overflow lot. I would definitely recommending coming around opening since by 12 PM it was packed with people! Since it was our first time in the area, we decided to go apple picking. It was quite expensive, at around $4.35 per lb if you buy less than 10lbs; it was cheaper at around $3 dollar something if you buy more than 10lbs. To get in, there was a bit of a wait (~ 20 for us), but it didn't feel so long since the staff do take the time to walk you through the rules for apple picking. Before entering to pick your apples, you can choose to grab a 5lb bag or a 10lb bag to hold your apples. Each bag costs at most 50 cents and you have to use it for the apple picking. If you don't want to pick your own apples, they also have bags of apples that they sell in their gift shop priced around $10-$14 depending on the variety. Overall, it was a fun experience! Definitely on the pricier end so if you're going be prepared to spend. Great place for families to come and enjoy the area. One thing to note, they do offer wagon rides that I believe are $10 (back and forth) and also allow you to pet the animals. I didn't see too many animals (maybe 2 on the farm?) so can't speak to whether it's worth it or not.

Yelp
We love Los rios! The chili was super savory and had a good amount of meat, the cornbread was fluffy and sweet, and the pie was absolutely to die for. I highly recommend the crumble top with the pie crust bottom. Seating is outside and can get busy fast. The nature preserve next door is so perfect too!

Yelp
I spent my Veterans Day enjoying the mountain views on this beautiful day. I'm from the East Coast so I'm used to going to Apple orchards that are on flatland so it was a bit of a challenge because it was on the hill, but I got a great workout. Most of the apples are already picked out for the season, so Grannie Smith and Pink Lady apples were already gone, but my friend was able to find me two Grannie Smith apples on the tree and I ended up purchasing a bag of pink lady apples. I wanted to do the cider pressing but it was an hour wait for my time slot, so I'll just come back another day before the season is out Thanksgiving weekend so I can press my own Cider. I bought a gallon and a pint, which was $10 cheaper than pressing it. When we got to the orchard we only were able to do one side. The other side is across the street near a store and where they sell tri tip sandwiches and things like that and parking is over there too. When we come back next weekend we will explore the other side. Make sure y'all get the apple cider & a pickle at the store it was so delicious. I wish I had gotten two!

Yelp
Los Rios Rancho is a fantastic stop to kick off the Fall season! We stopped by on a Saturday ready to pick some apples and got so much more. The first Saturday in November and the weather was ready for winter at 45 degrees so it really felt like we were in the season! There is plenty of parking areas but it will get busy in the region so plan to stop by early. With tractor rides, cider pressing, apple picking shopping, food vendors of all types you can spend an entire day adventuring making memories and having a blast.

Yelp
Took my daughter and her friends during the fall season. We picked some apples and enjoyed the petting zoo. The cider was AMAZING! Even took some bottles home. If you are looking for a nice wholesome outing this one is great!

Yelp
Attended the Apple butter festival on Saturday and we had a blast . We ordered the apple pie with vanilla ice cream and the Holliday cider from Oak Glen Cider Co. which were both delicious. We'll definitely be coming back next year .

Yelp
Apple picking season is upon us so that means heading over to the famous Oak Glen! I had visited last year but was unfamiliar with the area so ended up at the wrong farm (oops!). Thankfully, this year I was a better prepared. If you're trying to come to Los Rios Rancho, do note that it's "Los Rio Rancho" on Google Maps, not Riley's Farm or Riley's Apple Farm. If you enter up the mountain one particular way, it's easy to get confused with the wrong location. I'm definitely glad we visited Los Rio Rancho this year because you can really spend the better part of the day here. There's apple picking, pumpkin picking, tractor rides, BBQ, cider tasting and a petting zoo. While there are plenty of other apple orchards along Oak Glen Rd, this seems to be one of the most popular and active. If you want to actually do any apple picking, I'd strong suggest arriving before 11:00am, because it does get crowded and most activities have a long wait. Since my husband and I already did apple picking last year, this year we decided to enjoy what else the farm had to offer. The BBQ was great--we had the pulled pork sandwich and the BBQ ribs, both of which were excellent and worth the wait. We also enjoyed the hard apple cider flight which made for a refreshing respite from the October SoCal heat. The highlight of our outing here would definitely be the petting zoo. Though small and unassuming on the outside, it's actually quite large and worth the admission price. We got to feed all sorts of animals from ducks, goats, bunnies, cows and more. Definitely make this a day trip if you're in SoCal and looking for a fun fall seasonal activity. I'm looking forward to making a tradition out of this each year!

Yelp
Oak Glenn Riley's you pick and bbq . Along with a great conservation program make it a must visit.,if you want to pick berries or apples it a great stop. Looking for souvenirs or a going bbq meal Riley's family ran business is a must stop. Horse remixes and petting zoo a great bonus, the list of things to do is non stop. The hillking trails and gardens will be an all to feather package no other place in oak Glenn can match. We visit this place year round and always find the staff welcoming and knowledgeable about the mountains

Yelp
What a great place to spend the day, there is so much here to do! So if you enter on the first entrance on the left it's for apple picking. If you drive a tiny bit further there's an entrance on the right with Apple picking, food, drinks, nature trails, petting zoo, etc. we parked on the left picked apples and took a walking trail across the street. Decided to have a hard cider flight and some of the bbq. The hard cider was okay it was nice to try. The bbq restaurant was better than I thought it would be! We had the pulled pork, tri tip sandwich, and apple bacon grilled cheese. The pulled pork was whatevs and not enough meat wouldn't recommend. Tri tip sandwich was great just wished there was more meat. Apple bacon grilled cheese was fantastic!!!! A must order since you won't really find it anywhere else. There were a bunch of shared picnic tables or you could bring a blanket for the huge grassy areas. What a great family friendly spot to visit.

Yelp
First time here and my family and friends had a blast. We came here early (arrived at 930am) so we found parking pretty easily inside their lot. When we left, it was packed and everyone was parking on the side of the road though. We did the petting zoo, hard cider tasting, apple picking, ate BBQ and apple pies. We truly enjoyed the experience here and would definitely come back.

Yelp
This is one of our special places. Out of the way enough to feel like a decent day-trip, while being close enough to not be a legit road trip. Los Rios Rancho sits nestled in what seems like the middle of Oak Glen. Depending on what time of year you go, you can be surrounded by snow-covered mountains, or burned out hills. Eating a slice of warm apple pie with snow gently falling outside is an experience unlike most you will get in Southern California. Honestly, this place is what you make of it. If you don't get swept up into the frustrations of crowds and long lines, it can feel like home. Take it slow to enjoy the beauty around you while you're here, and you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Today was my first time visiting for apple picking season and I thought it was a great fall family activity, especially for those with kids. We spent 4 hours there, starting off with BBQ for lunch. We wanted to get the smoked ribs but they sold out right before my husband's turn to order. On a Sunday afternoon, the wait in line was 1 hour for food. Good thing there's a lot of shade in the large grassy area in the middle, where you can picnic and enjoy the live music in the meantime. I also took my son to explore the botanical garden during the wait time. Food: - My husband and I both preferred the tri-tip over the pulled pork sandwich. The tri-tip didn't need much else to go with it. - Just a heads-up that the sides for the combos are small. They are slightly larger than a condiment container. - The apple slaw was a very unique and good side. I expected a traditional cabbage slaw with apples added in, but instead their slaw is made up of thinly shaved apples. It was both tart and sweet. It would have gone perfectly inside the pulled pork sandwich. - Their homemade apple cider is a must-get! - After finishing our meal, we went to the pie shack for apple pie a la mode. I thought the apple pie was okay, not that special. We walked through the botanical garden to the South side U-pick. It was a long walk with a toddler. Next time, I would drive to the North side U-pick. Also, another tip is that in that path from the botanical garden to the U-pick is a restroom. In the food area, there are only port-a-potties, so walk here to use an actual restroom. Also, there is a cabin right before the pond on the same path. There are tables inside, which makes it a good shaded spot to sit and eat your freshly picked apples on the way back. U-pick: - We opted for the 5 lb bag even though you pay less per/lb for the 10 lb bag, because we didn't think we could finish that many apples. - The Royal Galas were delicious! Sweet and crispy. - We went the last week of Sept and the trees were full of apples and easy to pick for our almost 2 year old. Great experience and definitely recommend a visit there yearly!

Yelp
Great apple selection. A great place just to step away from the daily hussle. Family friendly and a good wholesome time. Bathrooms in the apple picking area need a MAJOR overhaul. The port a potties are disgusting. For the amount of people who come here, you think they would have actual bathrooms

Yelp
Decent food. We come for the trail, we bring our pups with us and it's so peaceful.. every employee we've encountered has been super friendly. The gift shop has some great treats! You gotta try the apple pie!!!

Yelp
The Little Seedling Ranch petting zoo at Los Rios Rancho is worth checking out. Over the years they've added new animals. There are goats, bunnies, ducks, pigs, cows, emus, and alpacas that you can feed. Admission: $8 (Children 3 and under are free) Food (Lettuce, celery, carrot): $2 My kid loved feeding and petting the bunnies, goats, and emu. They now only do apple picking across the street at their other lot. Check the Los Rios Rancho website for apple varieties that are ready to pick. My recommendation is that they should update the website every week.

Yelp
My daughter and grandson went to Oak Glen for a few hours to explore. We decided to stop and have lunch at Los Rios Ranch. We had their pulled Pork Sandwich which was very good. My grandson had their hot dog. It wasn't busy when we were there, it will be getting busier from now on. We love coming up here when it's apple harvesting time which is around Sept-Nov I believe. We pick our own apples. They also have a pretty area to walk called Oak Glen Preserve. It's by the parking lot so explore the trails, great for kids to run around on.

Yelp
This review is purely for the BBQ. My advise is... DON'T WAIT IN A LONG LINE for it. It's totally not worth it! We waited almost 40 min for what was a VERY small portion of food. We each ordered the Tri Tip sandwich combo, and the sandwich itself was skimp with meat and the equivalent portion of a half sandwich. The quality itself was good but we could have eaten 2 sandwiches each. At $19 a pop, we felt ripped off and left still hungry. The sandwiches in years past used to be MUCH larger and full of meat! Maybe it's the inflation that is making them cut portions? There are lots of other places to try around here that will give you a larger portion without the wait. The farm itself we enjoyed and appreciated the crowd control. Next time though we'll skip the BBQ and try something else.

Yelp
We took our fur baby out to explore & what a wonderful time we had! Grounds are nicely manicured, and great up keep! There were many schools on field trips and the sound of laughter echoing through the trails was a breath of fresh air! While walking several deer crossed out right in front of us which was such a site to see. We stopped and sat on a bench near the water. It was such a calm relaxing time. Several hiking trails, with signs. We've picnic'd the area several times and have come in some of their busiest days! Come knowing you will have to wait on days typically like the weekends. Prices are expected to be steep as everything else is these days. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Plenty of apples and good selection of Apple goods. Perfect destination for apple picking in the fall.

Yelp
We went here for some post-Thanksgiving festivities and it was pretty neat to see the apple butter festival happening! EXPERIENCE: Parking: They have a parking lot but it can get busy. Vibes: Awesome! You have your animal farm to feed and interact with the animals. They have many eatery selection options from meals (delicious tri-tip), desserts (pies), drinks (ciders), and a shop for fresh and preserved goods. It's close to the botanical garden with a nice range of plants. If you walk further you'll be at the apple picking area! CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Friendly people that were knowledgeable about their stuff. OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Awesome! We enjoyed our time here so much that we actually came back. This was a nice refreshing getaway. I enjoyed the fresh air, the scenery, and just the overall experience. Who knew you can make such delicious stuff out of apples? If you want something outside of your usual LA city life and want some apple delights, check this place out! Tips: * Check their website for updates on events!

Yelp
This is a fun experience for families with little kids. The farm is massive and has two sides with varying activities on either side. We visited in November in the fall and it was busy. I would suggest getting there when they open at 10am as the queues can get long. They have multiple apple picking opportunities depending on the variety you are after. They also had apple cider making, corn maze, petting zoo, and a shop. The wagon rides were sold out for about 2 hours so we did not get a chance to go. The BBQ smelled incredible and we wanted to try the pulled pork but the queue was at least an hour long. I would suggest bringing your own food and drinks just in case. Bring a picnic mat and enjoy the views of the mountains. Don't miss the flight of apple ciders if you're not the designated driver! The raspberry cider was yumm! They have a botanical garden which was how we ended the trip with a scenic hike.

Yelp
Fun place to hang out and sip some hard cider Plenty of things for families to do. It does get super crowded on the weekends so get there early.

Yelp
Massive estate that has a wide range of offerings such as apple picking, food vendors for apple pies, tri tip bbq, drinks, hard cider, corn mazes. Axe throwing, petting zoo, botanical garden and so much more to see and do for families of all ages. Parking is free. Apple picking is pretty wide spread with multiple areas to pick from and types of apples. We did the corn maze for $12/person which was fun.

Karen G.

Yelp
Pulled pork Sandwich 10/10 Hike trail : 9/10 Petting Zoo : HORRIBLE : one mini horse kept moving in circles in its corral , looked distressed. They can definitely do much better job and let the horse move around, they never move the horse and have it in a small space . Please do better .

Yelp
Absolutely loved my first visit to Los Rios Rancho! My family and I went on a Sunday afternoon and surprisingly it wasn't too packed. We didn't even know Los Rios existed but happened to find it after visiting the nearby Snowline Orchards, it's only a short drive away so we're definitely adding it to our list of places to visit annually! Parking can get a bit crowded so make sure to arrive earlier in the day or you will have to park far or circle around the lot until you can grab a spot. I imagine the place gets even more packed the closer you get to Christmas so that's something to keep in mind also. They have a small area of tables to sit at while you enjoy some of their delicious, fresh Applewood BBQ. We tried their pulled pork sandwich and side of potato salad. Highly recommend! The pulled pork was bbq'd perfectly, it was nice and tender. It's a perfect size to share if you're not too hungry! Their potato salad was tasty as well, it pairs well with the sandwich. The Los Rios store is nice to wander around. They offer their fresh apple cider to go, select produce and bakery items (I'll have to try their pies one day!). They also have bunch of cute kitchen decor and Christmas decor! I think there's a petting zoo and pony rides available for children too but it's not something we checked out during our visit. Also, make sure to go see the Botanical garden! It's free and there's so many beautiful scenery to enjoy. It is pretty big, it takes about 45 minutes to walk through but probably longer if you take your time. Make sure to wear comfortable clothing and shoes if you plan on walking the entire reserve. We didn't go through the entire trail but what did see was breathtaking. So many gorgeous trees, plants and wildlife to see! Overall I give Los Rios a well deserved five star rating! They have so much to offer. I'll definitely be back next year!

Yelp
What a lovely location to go apple picking in apple country, Oak Glen. It was so nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of every day life and enjoy the simplicities of apple picking on a nice, crisp fall day. When I went in late October, there were a variety of apples available for picking such as Winesap, Arkansas Black and Granny Smiths. It is a fun outdoor activity for groups of friends, a cute date or to take the kids to explore and learn more about apples. As for pricing, the apples are expensive compared to grocery store prices. Since the farm is large and has rocky dirt paths, I highly recommend wearing comfortable closed toe shoes for an enjoyable and comfortable experience. Parking was not bad here as there is parking available in the front and back of the farm.

This is our 2nd time going here and we really enjoy picking apples here. This time we went, there were 3 different types of apples (Gala, Mutsa, and Jonagold) we could pick. All were very good, but I actually preferred the Jonagold. They also had a free tractor ride to where the apple picking started. We went right when it opened, so it wasn't very crowded, but by the time we left, it was pretty packed. Also, the apples definitely are not cheap at $4.50 a pound. In the end, we paid well over $30 for the apples, which if we bought at the store would have probably cost us $5, but these apples are definitely better tasting and I think to some extent, you're going to have your kids experience the fun of picking their own apples. It can get a little chaotic there at times since there's a lot of people, and not too much direction, but all the staff are nice and will help answer any questions.

Yelp
This is our go to spot for apple picking. When we went picking this season, we picked royal galas and they were delicious!

Yelp
The setting was nice but the apple pie was actually horrible. Dry dark apple pie filling. The crust was ok so maybe it was fresh but certainly unappatizing. I tried a free sample of cider and it was vinegary.

Yelp
This place is really amazing for just getting outside, & spending some time with nature, good people, & good food. Going for a walk in the nature preserve is just great, even for little ones. It was the first "real" home for my two year old and she even enjoyed it, we unfortunately didn't go all the way around because she couldn't walk that much but it was still great. They have great food & treats for you as well. The cider is always good & the tri-tip is so good too. Today, they had live music & child interactive activities. It's so great. Los Rios Ranch is great. I unfortunately didn't take any pictures of the scenic route & trails, but they have two ponds, a stream, walking trails with various plants & animals, picnic areas, it's a great place. I only take away one star because it seems they closed off they're old shop & restaurant, I don't know if it's their fault or anything, but I preferred their actual shop & restaurant not the tent they currently have up, & they don't have have real restrooms right now, they have portal potties in the parking lot right now.

Yelp
My family and I have come here on and off for years now. We love this place, as it's perfect for a little daycation. The ranch has two sides with different activities on either side. The main section has BBQ, shopping, apple pie, botanical garden, and apple cider (the hard version as well (;). Across the street they have a corn maze, tractor ride, hatchet throwing, corn, apple cider making, and other activities. Plus there is apple picking on both sides, with different apple varieties available depending on what side you go. This is the perfect place to go if you have children or a large group that may want to do different activities. The price of apples is a bit expensive but you're also paying for the experience! Would definitely recommend to anyone for the day. We even spoke with the owner of the property who recommended going up the mountain a little further for pizza, a cigar lounge, and other site seeing activities. Love a friendly worker/owner that wants to help advertise other businesses in the area as well! Side note; be aware you may or may not have phone service in this area. Just plan wisely.

Yelp
A very unique experience considering that I've never gone apple picking ever. They section this spot off into north and south. At the time of when I went. One section had Granny Smith and Arkansas Black Apples, while another section had Winesap Apples. I've never heard of Winesap and Arkansas Black, but was cool to see the unique varieties not found in the stores. Picking apples is definitely a fun activity to partake in, especially in the Glen Oak region. There is a decent amount of parking, but I also depends on what time you come, as the later you come, the less parking there is available. In one section, it had a very scenic park that was adjacent to the apple ranch. There is also a hiking trail there that I would've done given more time. Overall, this is definitely one of the stops to make if you're in the area! A fun and fruitful (pun intended) experience.

Yelp
Quick stop while we were driving through the area. There's a tri-tip steak restaurant, an outside shop under some tents, a carriage ride for up to 4 people, I believe milkshakes? (closed at the time), and a feeding pen for some goats and a llama. We were too full to get anymore food, but one day I'll come back to try their steaks and apple goods. The shop had beers, baked goods like pies and breads and pastries, tourist souvenirs and random knick-knacks, and of course lots of apple goodies (ciders, dried apple chips, pies, etc). The goats only come out towards the fence for you to "pet" them if you have food with you. They sell goat food by the cup in the shop or a small handful for 25 cents near the pen. Probably much more fun earlier in the day and on season.

Yelp
We did the apple cider tasting and loved all 4 flavors! You get 4 flavors, 2 oz each for $10 or 4 oz each for $18. The flavors are bright and bold. There's a cute outdoor stand where you can get the flights. We enjoyed taking pictures at the pumpkin set up right outside the tent and browsing the shop next door too.

Wonderful place to stop to shop, eat and walk around the botanical garden. It's a one stop shop! I had the tri trip sandwich with grilled onions and potato salad!! It was yummy!!! Then walked around the botanical garden area!! Parking was great and the grounds were kept up nicely.

Yelp
Had the opportunity to come here in November during apple picking season. It's a beautiful farm and location. Luckily we had gone with my niece who had been there before so she knew the perfect time to get there before the crowds. We came bright and early when they opened. They have a large picnic area with a handful of tables under the trees. We lucked out and were able to snag one before it got busy. We sat and enjoyed the beautiful scenery while enjoying the food from the restaurant. FYI the tri tip salad was amazing! And don't skimp on the fresh made apple pie! Sooooooo good! I'm mad my toddler started acting up as we were leaving or I would have gotten in line to bring an apple pie home. Anyway, after eating we worked off the calories by taking a short hike to the apple picking area in the park. They had apple pickers available for the apples higher up. My little guy had a blast running around looking for his perfect apple from the tree. This is a great place to spend a simple day with the family.

Yelp
Apple picking season has officially begun and so the place can get quite busy. I suggest arriving before 1pm. It's great that this location is open everyday and offers a nice variety of fruits and veggies to pick. An internary is available on their website to help you plan your day. Lots of activities are offered. Currenty, you can pick apples, tomatoes, and pumpkins. The green apples cost $3.75 per pound and red apples cost almost $5 per pound. Heirloom tomatoes cost even more. This is really expensive, compared to the prices you can buy them for at a supermarket. You're really just paying extra for the experience rather than the apples themselves, considering the apples are not any better than what you can just buy anywhere else. I bought about 10 pounds of green apples, and all have been very sour. For lunch, I shared a tri-tip sandwich and a hot dog. I have to be honest, they were both terrible and overpriced... Although you can press your own apple cider, I just bought some from their store. It was too sweet for me. The only food that tasted at least decent is the apple pie. There are different types of pie. I got the whole double crusted apple pie. Ended my day by checking out the little seedling ranch. It costs $8 per person to get in. I was given a bowl of lettuce and carrots to feed the barnyard animals. This was fun, but beware that it's very smelly. It's only a cool experience if you're visiting this place for the first time. Not sure if I'd ever come back again. I think autumn is the best season to go. Remember to put on a hat and some sunscreen. All of the employees there were friendly.

Yelp
Apple picking has become a yearly family tradition. And Riley's is one of the stops we make in Oak Glen The apple orchard are so beautiful and full of sweet juicy apples. We normally go in October and find the perfect apples. Making apple cider is a fun activity. The kids run around and enjoy the outdoors. The weather is perfect in October. Fresh crispy air that we don't get here in LA too much. Overall one of the best day trips we do every year.
