"Fly fishing may not be top of mind while walking through San Francisco’s Financial District, but fantasies of casting in crystal clear rivers and commencing the day around a campfire are sure to materialize once you step inside Lost Coast Outfitters. The upscale sporting goods store specializes in top-of-the-line fly fishing gear, but shop owner George Revel has an eye for provisions that tug at the inner outdoorsman in all of us, such as indestructible Yeti coolers, leather-trimmed duffle bags from Filson, and classic Simms flannels in timeless red-and-black check. The grand historic Beaux Arts building only adds to the appeal, as does the 300-plus-bottle whiskey collection hidden behind a wall of waders and waterproof booties. Pro tip: Inquire about joining the exclusive Tin Cup Society to gain access to speakers, casting clinics, expeditions, and curated gear packages."

This place is amazing to have in the city. Everytime I go in I accidentally spend way too much and Jose always helps me out for my future fishing trips. With his help I have had success in the surf and the rivers/lakes within a 5 hour drive from the bay! He really is knowledgeable and always willing to help!

Google
Stopped in shortly after landing in SFO looking for some tips and flies for fishing in the San Fran area. All of the employees were extremely knowledgeable and super helpful in helping us find good spots and making recommendations on what flies would work for those areas. Such a cool spot and a great hang.

Google
Lost coast outfitters offers superb products and world class advice. Fly fishing, fly tying, rod building, trip planning, they're happy to help with all of their capacity.

Google
Amazing customer service! Brent was extremely knowledgeable about waders from the moment I walked in and told him I was interested in getting some simms waders with a glance of his eye he corrected my assumption of my size. The gentlemen here are extremely knowledgeable about there craft you should definitely stop by if your even remotely interested is fishing!

Google
I absolutely love this place. All the employees are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and just fun to talk to. The prices are very reasonable, and the gear is top tier. Also, their website is the best resource I’ve found for fly fishing the surf. It is apparent they are thoroughly passionate about what they do and it contributes to the quality of their business. Could not say enough good stuff about this place. If you are at all interested in fly fishing, go check them out! They also provide guiding to fly fishing the CA surf which is an invaluable resource. CHECK THEM OUT!!!!!!

Google
Ordered a Galvan Rush LT fly reel and was super satisfied with the one day delivery. On top of that they reached out and gave me a call and put some backing on it no charge. Above and beyond customer service! Can’t wait to check out the store in person!

Google
Small local shop packs a big punch. Derek the proprietor is extremely experienced and helpful. Was sad to see him leave San Rafael (selfishly closer to me) but his new shop in San Anselmo is, I have to admit, even better.

Google
Been shopping here for every major fly-fishing purchase. Recently bought one of their own LCO Ocean Beach rods and I had a section break on me in the first few days. George explained to me how to avoid it in the future and gave me a discount on a replacement section. Jose is usually there when I go and I appreciate how much advice they give me! Wouldn't shop anywhere else for my big purchases. Also I've been attending the free fly fishing workshops every other wednesday at Golden Gate Casting Ponds. Super helpful!

Yelp
The friendly and knowledgeable team at Lost Coast is the best. I'm a bit new to fly fishing and they have a great way of presenting the options and laying out what you'll need (and not need) for the upcoming trips. Also, they invest in the local community and are a great resource for knowledge and inspiration on where to go and how to invest your time. Personally, I'm a fan of vests vs sling packs. Felt booties vs rubber. they've got it all. from entry level to advanced and premium items. don't forget sunscreen on your next trip!

Yelp
While the pictures of the shop look great, I have only bought from them online so this review is about online shopping. They have a great selection of goods, good prices, and very good email-based support and Q&A. My only suggestion is that they make it easier to process returns online automatically without having to go via email.

Yelp
LCO is a gem. Not only is the shop well stocked, but the team that works there are encyclopedias on fishing. True purveyors of the craft and experienced guides. From beginner, to novice through destination traveler, LCO has you covered, literally. Say Hey to Diesel the shop mascot and adventure pup. They are truly "full service"

Yelp
Dishonest owner -- George Revel. The guy sells overnight shipping options past the cutoff time of the day. Then when asked about it, instead of being sympathetic to the customer, he flashes his huge ego to double down on being right. He even lied about sending the purchased product a day forward to cover his tracks. Hey San Francisco, be careful of people who lie for business. Lost Coast alright -- integrity is definitely what's Lost with this company. Did I tell you this owner ruined my best friends birthday? Now watch him lie again when he replies and doubles down on his side of the story . . .

Lino S.

Yelp
Highly professional staff and they know their business! I will recommend this Fly Shop to everyone who loves Fly Fishing .

Ben P.

Yelp
Great shop, super knowledgeable, awesome gear always in stock. If you are coming through SF, definitely stop by!

Yelp
This is one my favorite businesses in all of San Francisco. The folks there are a collection of experts who also seem to actually care about everyone who comes in as well as the fly fishing community as a whole. Have had great service, good recommendations, and advice from folks who are clearly excited about what they do there and love sharing their expertise. Definitely buy as much as I can through this shop to support my local fly shop but also because they carry great stuff and i know if they stock something, it's going to be good.

Yelp
Best fly fishing shop in SF and the Bay Area. Great people, knowledgeable, super fun to be around and talk all things fly fishing. Not to mention amazing service. They really know the area and the fishing conditions. WTF (Where's the Fish) The Bay (Crissy) Baker, China, etc. The Delta, Upper and lower Sac). Not to mention all the rivers. So many great places to fish. These guys know them all.

Lerinn L.

Yelp
Really nice guys -- didn't laugh at me when I went in for a fly to stick on my jacket!

Todd L.

Yelp
Whether you're a seasoned angler or a novice looking to dive into the world of fly fishing, Lost Coast Outfitters is an absolute gem that provides everything you need to enhance your angling pursuits. Great, friendly service and excellent advice on where to fish, what flies to use, and what type of gear is best suited to the spot you're headed to. I wholeheartedly recommend LCO to anyone seeking expert guidance, top-notch gear, and a warm, welcoming environment.

Yelp
Great Service! They were out of one item that I had ordered and they put a lot of effort into making sure that that I was aware of the problem and working out a solution. It was a really small order so I would have forgiven them if they had just sent an email :-) In any case I appreciated the effort and the service.

Yelp
The store is well-stocked, and the customer service is top notch. The person who helped me was very knowledgeable about the gear, which is kinda weird to say, but it is rare these days. Good vibes here. I'll be back.

Matt S.

Yelp
Where to begin? This shop is legit. Every employee is fishy. Every employee has a good attitude. Every employee will do their best to help you get into fish. I've interacted with them in person, over the phone, and over the web. Every single interaction has been well-handled. A couple years ago, I bought a $30 fly box from LCO. After about a year, one of the hinges broke. I mentioned it to George (the owner) and he reached out to his rep at the company and got things resolved. Think about that; George probably made six bucks on that transaction and rather than try to sell me a new fly box, he worked to sort things out. I've gone in to buy fly tying materials and Steve Adachi (a legend) has enthusiastically made recommendations, (gently) critiqued some of my flies, and talked about 100 different aspects of tying. I've gone in to buy a rod and spent close to an hour discussing pros/cons of a half dozen different models. Every question was patiently and competently answered (even the tedious ones). My likes/dislikes were listened to. My skill level was taken into account. And, I walked out with a rod that I love. When I've asked for fly recommendations for specific rivers at specific times, I've received knowledgable, on point suggestions. Not too many, not too few. When I've ordered things that were out of stock, I've been promptly notified. I've been given choices about whether to wait until LCO will have things in stock or to buy elsewhere. Just a top notch operation. It can't be easy to run a fly shop in SF, but these guys pull it off. We are lucky to have them.

Yelp
Thank goodness for George and the founders of Lost Coast Outfitters. There is so much to love about this store, it's hard to squeeze it all into one review, but here are a few highlights: 1) I am a flyfisherwoman. In my 20 years of fly fishing, this was THE FIRST fly shop where I felt completely at home and comfortable, with zero weird/getting hit on/mansplaining experiences and all the gear I needed to fit my petite 5'3" frame. 2) George helped me find everything on my list and gave me specialized and expert recommendations for the areas where I fish, taking the time to set up the guards on my sunglasses and get everything packed away in my new Patagonia bag. It's clear these guys really know what they're talking about and they aren't going to sell you something just because they can. In several instances, they encouraged me to buy something not in the store because it made more sense. 3) The store dog, Diesel, is an absolute delight. Don't miss him! 4) The chatter in the store was great fun, too. I found a few new streams I hadn't tried just by spending an hour or so in there with other patrons on a Monday afternoon. 5) Prices were extremely reasonable and comparable to what you'd find online, and I'd much prefer to support this small business than give my money to Amazon. I am so grateful to Lost Coast Outfitters for existing and creating such a wonderful experience for this lonely flyfisherwoman. If you fish in the Bay Area, don't miss this spot!

John T.

Yelp
The employees (Jon) who helped me, and owner George are very knowledgeable, approachable and friendly. They help me to decipher which fly fishing outfit to get based on my fishing style and location. Jon spent ample time answering question and working through concern about gear. I know the made a quality purchase on all sorts of fly fishing gear while knowing I have confidence in my gear. They spooled my new reel for me, so all I have to do is head home to Hawaii and get my gear in the water and onto some fish. I drove an hour from outside the city limits to visit Lost Coast Outfitters, and boy I'm so glad I did!!

Adam S.

Yelp
Amazing customer service from Mr. Revel and his team. Needing some gear on short notice for an upcoming trip and these guys got it to me next day. Owner seems to be accesible and involved with the running of his business, always a good sign.

Yelp
This place was interesting. Went here for a couple fishing items and was immediately met with a stand off-ish attitude from one of the gentleman (had glasses) working at the store. Asked if one of my friends could use the restroom while we look and the response was "ugh I guess". Bought a few flies and a hat, the total came out to like 95$... a bit pricy but kind of expected. The cashier was a shorter gentleman and very kind and helpful, made the experience better. Not sure if I'd go here again.

Ned S.

Yelp
ordered some flying tying stuff from these guys. fast and accurate service. easy to shop on their site.

Yelp
I was looking for a place to get started with fly fishing and I stumbled upon Lost Coast Outfitters. The staff there are very friendly and welcoming, specifically Ben, Sam, and Will. They helped me out tremendously when I didn't know a thing about fly fishing. They got me set up real nice with the gear I wanted and didn't try to upsell me. I feel confident that for my future fly fishing needs this place will be my one stop shop. They are super honest and patient with the products they recommend. They explained all the pros and cons and their personal opinions and it gave me a better understanding of each item. The staff here are some of the nicest people I've met in any establishment!

Yelp
As an outdoor enthusiast I had to stop in here yesterday when the window candy (hats, gear, and gadgets) caught my eye. My wife and I were greeted by Steve who was so friendly and knowledgeable. This store really has cool gift ideas, clothes, and fishing gear and more! Really well made items that look great. Open during Covid - just a little hand sanitizer at the door and mask up - very quaint hip shop
google avatar

Dusty P.

Yelp
Called the guys up and told them where I live and asked advice on surf perch rigs. Thes gentlemen on the phone was super helpful. Got the Clouser Minnow supplies for Xmas and I watched the YouTube tying tutorials. Amazing job guys keep it up.

Ryan W.

Yelp
This is my go to place for fly fishing gear! The staff especially Steve are super helpful and not only do I always leave with a handful of flies but Steve helped me pick out a solid Galvan t-5 reel that I have been looking at for months. Great staff, great selection of well tied flies, and so much knowledge jam packed in this shop! When I update my fly rod quiver I am making this my first stop!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
I got a last minute invite to join a group to fish some water I did not have all the equipment to be successful. I called LCO and Ben got me hooked up with everything I needed. I was a little nervous about getting it on-time for the trip. It showed up the next day! A fantastic job from a super group of a dedicated fisherman and first class shop. Thank you!
google avatar

Denise C.

Yelp
I don't know if I should leave a review for wind0w-sh0pping, but this store is really neat! It seems like an outdoors store with expensive outdoor clothing with jackets, shirts, shoes, but what stands out is the fishing gear. There's not even too much fishing gear, but that's part of the niche. It's a boutique and they curated all their finds. It's a fun place to stop by near North Beach.
google avatar

Craig T.

Yelp
I have been familiar with Lost Coast Outfitters for several years, following and watching their great YouTube videos. Today, I went there for my first time and I was very impressed. Ben and Sam know the bay area well and are a treasure chest of information and experience. I went in to pick up a rod, ended up talking for some time, and ended up ordering another rod. While the store isn't huge, they have a lot of high-end inventory. We need to support local retailers, especially Fly Fishing shops as there are very few left in business.
google avatar

Ryan C.

Yelp
This place is an absolute gem. George and his team are expert fly anglers who will take the time to understand your fishing needs and provide you with everything you need to be successful on the water. You can't find a higher quality, more personalized fishing fly fishing resource in the Bay Area. Website contains fishing reports, how to videos, lessons, etc. These guys are the best.

Yelp
Simply the best. Super knowledgeable (and willing to share/educate), personable, and helpful - George and his team are just awesome. Great location close to downtown and BART with an awesome new location. You'll not get any judgment here, just tremendous customer service and support from a small local business that's a true pillar of the Northern California fly-fishing community. Whether you need to gear up for the weekend's trip, just grab something small, or plan the trip (local or afar) of a lifetime, LCO is the place to go. You won't regret it!

Jessica G.

Yelp
Placed an order online in November. Never received it. Never refunded. Would give zero stars if I could.

E L.

Yelp
Lost Coast Outfitters are some of the best in the business. I went to my first ever casting class with them and now fly fishing has become a passion of mine. Yesterday when I went to the shop I received excellent help from Sam, Steve, and Ariel - they showed me some great flies, sold me a nice new line for my setup, and a new way to tie a leader. They went above and beyond to make sure that I had what I needed. If you are a total beginner or a seasoned professional, they have something for you here. Please support this amazing local business.

Eric P.

Yelp
My favorite fly shop and, luckily, my local shop. The selection is first rate and, really, I have never received such consistently excellent customer service from a retail business -- of any kind -- as I have from LCO. The owner, George, and staff are always patient, helpful and unpretentious. Thanks for this.
google avatar

Aaron Z.

Yelp
They have high quality fly fishing gear and accessories and very good service. Pricing is pretty standard retail, but have a great central SF location. They do a lot to support and promote fly fishing in the community and it's a good thing there is enough business to support this kind of pace right in the heart of downtown. Mail orders from their website is a good option too.
google avatar

Bret A.

Yelp
Saw their web page online was down in the area, so I decided to swing by their shop to check it out. The staff was extremely helpful and nice. I will return the next time I visit.

Jr L.

Yelp
I haven't been to their actual location yet, but all my online orders and phone interactions have been top notch. If something isn't 100% right, they take care of the issue quickly. Everyone there has been really knowledgeable and willing to talk shop. I'd recommend this place to beginners and experts alike. Keep up the great work.

Yelp
When I was young, when my world was young, the R.L. Winston Rod Company at 475 3rd St was the only complete and long lasting fly shop in San Francisco. Roos Atkins on Market, Sullivans out in the Avenues, Abercrombie & Fitch of Post, and Eddie Bauer in the Financial among others came and went. Winston would move up to Montana in 1975. Then there were none. Until now. George Revels Lost Coast Outfitters, a short cast away from the old Winston shop is a wonderful reincarnation of the Winston shop from long ago. You won't find rubber waders, you won't find wicker creels, fly lines that required daily dressings, canvas duck clothing, coffee grinder fly reels, genuine cat gut silk leaders or the fragrance of moth ball trout flies, thats passé. You will find bamboo rods though, good ones, not the vintage rods that clung together with animal glues, but new ones with space age resins and fine fittings. You"ll also find featherlight fly reels, high quality fly rods (a free lesson form George, a national casting champion with each purchase) ultra light clothing, useful angling literature and accouterments from the finest purveyors in the land. Your time permitting, step back into real time at Lost Coast. You'll receive a warm welcome, a smile, a friendly handshake and free no nonsense up to date fishing information to boot. arthur david

Yelp
TOP NOTCH SERVICE I was in need of swapping out some high end SIMMS waders for a different size that my husband got at Christmas. As our fly trip to Alaska approached, I didn't know what to do so I found LCO online and they saved me. The service was incredible, friendly and these guys know what they are doing. Within days of mailing them back to George, we had the new size in our hands in time for our trip. George made it easy and even followed up with us to make sure they worked. Who does that these days? I can't thank LCO enough for the top notch service and making my life easier. This will be our go to shop from now on--thanks for going out of your way George to help us out. Finally, someone who knows what they are doing.

Wilson R.

Yelp
This shop is a fishing section located in a small back corner of a very upscale men's store in the Financial District. The gear here was very nice. Because I am new to the sport I was hoping to talk to someone with expertise on what I should be looking for. I waited for over half an hour to talk to the one person working in the section. He was helping one other customer, and for that customer it seemed like he was getting excellent service. Very detailed advice on gear to take and places to fish on an upcoming trip. If you're lucky enough to be the only one in the shop, or have a few hours to kill I'm sure you will be treated well. Unfortunately for me, I had neither and I left without being able to purchase the trout setup I was hoping for. I'm not sure if the staff member was just very interested in the one customer's upcoming trip, very uninterested in helping me (people under thirty don't always inspire confidence in sales people especially in a store catering to more elite clientele), or just wasn't used to handling more than one customer at a time. In any case, I didn't feel like my business was valued, so I will be taking it elsewhere.

Tommy S.

Yelp
George and his team deserve to be recognized as one of the top fly shops in the country. They're tremendous to speak with about gear, flies, and trip planning, as I've done many times. But what's sets them apart is the pride they take in their local fisheries, community education and engagement - all of which is contagious whenever you spend time in the shop. Every one of the staff is filled with incredible knowledge - ranging from small high alpine rivers in the Sierras to the surf of the Bay Area and the many steelhead rivers in the North Coast. I'm proud to call them my local shop!
google avatar

Simon T.

Yelp
Picked up some new wading boots and a reel. Art was a great help, very knowledgable and good to see a high standard even when George isn't in the shop. Good to have a local SF fly shop with all the goodies you need. Bought some cool Lost Coast Outfitters tees and caps. Keep up the good work
google avatar

Kim K.

Yelp
My husband and I have order equipment from LCO and the service has been top notch. When calling George he will recommend the perfect setup for the conditions you will be fishing. And they have a great newsletter regarding fishing conditions and a bit of water politics. Check them out online.
google avatar

Gunnar M.

Yelp
One of the best fly shops in California, what it lacks in size it makes up for in quality. Lost coast is run but a group of people who live and breathe fly fishing and possess intimate knowledge of the equipment they sell. From fly selection to wading boots they know what they are doing.

Esteban H.

Yelp
In an age where many brick and mortar retail shops are barely hanging in there, LCO is the kind of place you can go, hang out, shoot the breeze and be part of a local community who share the same passion for fly fishing and the outdoors. George and the gang know their stuff and will get you set up, whether you're a beginner or seasoned expert. Gear for all price points and their selection is darned good. I have found if they don't have it in stock, they will get it for you just as quick, or quicker, than having to order online from that high end fly fishing website that sells you doggy day beds.
google avatar

Andy P.

Yelp
There is something to be said for trying the gear before you buy it, especially when it comes to this sport. The staff is helpful and friendly, I'm definitely going to continue shopping here and I'm driving a long way.
google avatar

Peter C.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem! The service is exceptional whether you are a beginner or seasoned angler. The staff take their time no matter how much you are spending. Great source of in depth information on a variety of topics. Although in downtown San Francisco I have had no problem parking.
google avatar

Pickles Y.

Yelp
In town on business; had stop by and have a browse. Beautiful, well appointed fly fishing section that has pretty much anything/everything one could need. Ended up purchasing a shirt and having a fun and friendly chat with George? Great ambiance and service.

Yelp
FINALLY a fly shop back in SF!! I knew George at a different shop and was stoked to hear he was opening a new shop of his own in the city. It's in a fancy shop with an assortment of goods and George has his own little nook with everything you need. If you don't see it ask!! He has more in storage. The best part was that I was pressed for time to have a new line put on my reel. George took the reel, said he'd get it all dialed and then have a courier bring it to me an my shop in San Francisco. Made my life way easier! Combine that service with his knowledge and also Lost Coast carrys the best gear and you're in the right spot.
google avatar

Rex I.

Yelp
The only fly fishing shop in San Francisco also happens to be one of the best in the country. Well curated with friendly, expert service. If you need something very specific/particular, call ahead and they'll take care of you.
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
From Colorado, where there's a fly fishing store on every corner, still I support locals & local knowledge. This is the best/authorities place for Bay Area fly fishing knowledge, it may be small but the knowledge is worth volumes.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
The beauty and elegance of fly fishing is now made possible in the City at Lost Coast Outfitters. Offering an extensive range of clothing, equipment and terminal tackle, San Francisco is now blessed with a shop that not only provides anglers enough gear to satisfy their eery craving, but is owned and operated by a young man who exemplifies all that is wonderful about the sport. George knows his stuff and loves to share his knowledge and passion. Stop in, gear up, go rip lip!
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
This place is very cool, and George will go out of his way to help get/order whatever you need. I thought it might be a pricey fly shop being in the wing tip store, NO WAY!! Stop by to get some leader line for Baja ( I think that was what I was looking for ) and George showed some really cool LMB flys. So I got a few, and like I never do, I didn't look at the price and just signed. I realized after I left, that that was the least I think I ever paid for fly's , and big fly's are not cheap. Any fly that I can't make myself, from now on I'll be calling George! He even offered eyes out of his personal fly tying stuff. This place is just want we need her in the City. I have a feeling he will quickly out grow the shop he's at now. So many people I talk to in the city, say they love our new fly shop. Thanks LCO!
google avatar

Stephanie M.

Yelp
George is always a huge help whenever I need anything of the fly fishing variety for my husband. If he doesn't have something in store he's quick to get it for me although the gift certificates are still my favorite gift to give!
