Why Adelaide Is Australia’s Most Exciting Food and Wine Destination

"Lost in a Forest is an informal pizzeria located in Uraidla, where winemaker Taras Ochota tucked an Italian brick oven into a deconsecrated chapel. It serves as a de facto tasting room for local wines and a clubhouse for the winemakers themselves." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Yelp
A great little pizza place on the Main Street of Uraidla. They have so many different types of Pizza. There is seating in and outside. It was very nice. When in this area check it out.

Yelp
My friend had been talking up this joint since the moment I landed in Adelaide, and I really thought nothing of it. I was expecting just your basic pizza spot, I was wrong, definitely wrong. We managed to snag a Sunday night reservation, make sure to make reservations as this restaurant is quite small. The building is actually a converted church, that has beautiful paintings on the walls and ceilings. The staff were incredibly friendly, there were plenty of pizza options on the menu, I opted for the ole Smokey, and loved it. I also got a glass of local wine. Not to mention, the food came out quickly. Only wish I got to see the beauty of Lost In a Forest during the day. Worth a visit!

Yelp
Lost in a Forest is delightful, it was a wintry day and our party of four was fortunate enough to be seated near the fire, where we chatted and caught up whilst enjoying wines from the Adelaide Hills and signature pizza's. The Bahn Mi was an amazing taste sensation as was the Buzz Bomb. For the less adventurous the Cheese, Bacon and Basil was simple and satisfying. Great food, great staff and a wonderful destination

Yelp
As a local, I have been counting down the days, hours and minutes until Lost in a Forest open it's doors. Finally, it was time. First tip, be sure to call in advance. This place will be very popular very fast! So, bookings are a must! Taras and Amber from Ochota Barrels have long been the Rockstars of the wine world in the Adelaide Hills. In fact, so much so that Mick Jagger made a special request to visit the couple's home to try their wines. I have been a massive fan of Ochota wine for a while now. There is something special about it. It is confident, experimental and an honest drop. I fell head over heels when I first tried their Grenache. So, it is very exciting to see them partner up with local Charlie Lawrence and Chef Nick Filsell (former head chef at Jamie's Italian and Red Ochre Grill) to open a restaurant where I can buy by the glass directly from the maker. Set up in an old church (a great use of space), the restaurant offers around 6-8 tables downstairs & a private dining area upstairs. What a lovely set up with a long table made from the original front door and pews. A great space to host a relaxed celebration. Feel free to drop into this restaurant for a glass of vino if you do not have a booking. You are welcome to drink at the bar if there is space. As for the wine selection, well... it is what you imagined. Only the best! So, for the wine lovers out there, pop this restaurant on your bucket list. Pizza, pizza, pizza... I love a restaurant that chooses one thing, and they do it REALLY well. That is how I feel about the pizzas I tried this weekend. They weren't just good, they were so delicious! I ordered the Banh Mi Pizza (because that is just genius in itself) and the Fig & Cheese Pizza for dessert. First up, Banh Mi Pizza. Bang on! The base was thin, crispy, held its weight and well oiled. The toppings just worked so well. Pickled veg, same as what you would find on a Banh Mi, roast pulled pork, cut up chunks of crackling and a siracha mayo (FTW). It's food like this that makes you want to high five the closest person next to you. The Fig & Cheese was just like finishing your meal with a cheese platter on a pizza. Vanilla poached pears swimming in melted blue cheese, mascarpone, and fig syrup. Oh yes! Order some red to go with this one folks. Actually, you could just totally order this for dinner. It does not have to be for dessert. Very good indeed. The service here is tentative and friendly. What you would expect from a restaurant like this one. But, with some hills charm and pride for sharing some impressive local produce. Nothing but smiles here! What else can I say? I am glad I live around the corner. It's a great thing to see Uraidla finally coming back to life!

Yelp
I didn't think I was allowed in churches anymore after my innumerable gluttonous sins, but it seems the stars aligned on a perfect summer day where some rosé, a couple of bloody delicious pizzas and my tumtum were meant to meet. Lost in a forest has been a whisper on the wind amongst my circle if acquaintances for a while. nestled away in the quaint but surprisingly active little Township of Uraidla in the Adelaide Hills, only a stones throw from the freeway and city and seemingly a world away from any sort of hustle n bustle. The lunch atmoshpere is great with the sun out, and the wine flowing. We had the banh mi pizza and the buzz bomb. both delicious and filling too! the wine is more pricey than some other places but worth it cos it's super tasty. all in all we had a delightful time getting lost in a forest and hopefully when we find our way back we will come and get lost again soon! Thanks for having us gang! Note from the wife: This place is whimsical...even the bathrooms are whimsical!

Yelp
Square slice is big rip-off, too small for one adult meal and very ordinary flavour. It's not pizza it's a focaccia, and it's not wood oven.

Yelp
Amazing! - The whole experience... from walking into the garden, through the big doors and being sat at a quaint recycled table with wild looking flowers. The service was prompt and casual, gin and wine menu really impressed us. Our highlight was obviously the pizza ! I could literally eat that base everyday for the rest of my life looking forward to our return visit

Yelp
I've been to lost in a forest 3 times now, and it hasn't disappointed once. The first time I went, it was for an early breakfast for my partner's birthday. We were the only people there so we were waited on like no one's business. They knew it was his birthday so we got free sparkling which was a nice touch. The beans were amazing. Tonight we had pizza and wine and couldn't fault it at all. The wines are pricey at $12 a glass, so the only suggestion I have is to include an $8 house wine. Everything else was perfection. Love the shroom and blue cheese pizza! Fantastic location, ambiance and overall experience.

Yelp
My husband and I met up with our close friends in the newest restaurant to bring life back to this part of the hills after the imagine Uraidla campaign. It is a funky , groovy , grass roots restaurant and wine bar that features beautiful pizza and blessed house wine set in a converted church with new wine themed stained glass windows. When I called the restaurant I talked to one of the owners as he was driving and he let me know they could fit us in after lunch. We took that place as we had heard how popular it is and we were not disappointed. I love a place with personality with charisma that is so close to home bump into your neighbours. And the house wine it is fresh and vital and as Anita wrote has been blessed by the devil himself when he visited Basket Range. We are so lucky to have such a vibrant new restaurant. XXOO

Yelp
Delicious pizzas with interesting, gourmet flavours. Nice, hidden away setting with great outdoor seating when the weather permits. Great for large groups and families as well.

Yelp
Wow! What a find. Tucked away in sleepy little Uraidla, this old church is serving up some incredible pizzas. We arrived on a warm and busy Friday night and were worried we might not get in. The setting is perfect - families on picnic rugs in the gardens, people lazily sipping wines around bench style seats in the shade. We were served the olives as a complimentary starter and they were fat and juicy. We had a Bahn Mi pizza and it was delicious.. really didn't know what to think of it at first.. it tastes just like a Bahn Mi.. but as a pizza. I think my brain hurt a little for a while, but it was worth it. Fantastic wine list and plenty of good local beers. What's not to love!

Yelp
Great food, excellent service and top quality playlists. We came for a late breakfast on a rainy Saturday morning and the ambience was lovely, especially in the armchairs by the fire. We were two of maybe six people, so we had plenty of room. It was a little noisy with kids around but the family friendly feeling is so nice - if I were local I'd be a regular!

Yelp
We came for Friday night dinner. We booked a table for 8 thirty and arrived promptly. Our table for wasn't ready, so we perused the menu for 15mins, and sipped wine on low stools while we waited ... and waited ... and then we were told our table was being set ... and then another staff member told us they didn't know what was happening ... we waited some more ... and then we were finally offered some hastily added bar stools at the bar. Not ideal as one of our group was heavily pregnant. Bar stools suck when you have a giant foetus attached to your mid-section. Other groups were seated ahead of us at tables. An explanation as to why we couldn't have our booked table would have been nice. A table would have been nicer. We didn't make a fuss. We thought the pizzas were good! The wine was lovely. We'll probably be back again some time. But we hope that you're able to offer better service next time. Many thanks!
