Lotherton

We loved it here. The house and gardens are in excellent condition and there are some beautiful trees, plants & flowers. It cost us £10 each to enter. We bought tickets in advance. We enjoyed our time in the orchard including try a few of the 100 varieties of apples. We didn't visit the wildlife enclosure because we had our dog Stan with us and no dogs allowed (understandably) definitely worth a visit 😊

Great place for the children and perhaps adults alike. Lots of animals to see, a playground to suit all young ages, cafe in the square (a little pricey) but ample choice for snacks or main meals. There is an indoor play area set to open in the autumn which after a glance through the window looks exciting. All in all a good day out.

A lovely place to spend the weekend. I especially loved the wildlife area, it was fantastic. Although the zoo is small, I still spent almost 2 hours there. The historic house and beautiful gardens are also worth exploring. The art gallery also offers costumes and toys for children to enjoy dress-up and play.

A beautiful day spent looking at cars from the Porsche Festival. It was situated in a field within the grounds. There were plenty of parking and admission was £10.50 per person. It’s also dog friendly! There was also a local jazz band playing in the summer tent and what a lovely day to hear them blast some relaxing tunes!!

Ab amazing place. The grounds and gardens are beautiful. Bring a picnic and rug, let the kids run around in safety. There's a small wildlife park with penguins, fruit bats, rare birds, etc. The house itself is a beautiful place, well.worth the £10 admission fee alone. A great play area with swings slides etc for under13s.

Great place, we upgraded to a season pass as we enjoyed it that much. The weekend we attended there was a special 1940's weekend on. So there were numerous Second World War exhibits, the people who brought the items were very knowledgeable and great at getting the kids involved. The sun was glorious, so we didn't go into the historic house, we are saving this for our next visit. We did however go and see the animals in the zoo area. The penguins were our favourite, followed by the tapier. The place has ample parking and a good playground for the kids, if you live within an hour, it's a great place for a day out.

Love this place, really good value, £10 adult ticket online, includes entry to the house, gardens, wildlife world, deer park and parking. Lots of space to park, no waiting. House is one of the nicest historical houses I've been to. Packed with beautiful items of furniture, art and interesting objects. There were some really nice activities for children as it is the summer holidays, the gardens are lovely, wildlife world has lots of unusual animals and birds, there is a large herd of deer to observe on the deer park, and a nice courtyard with gift shop cafe and toilets. Would 100% recommend a visit.

A beautiful place to visit, a lot of walking, but at your own pace. Plenty to see and entertain the family. You can walk through the animal enclosures , have a picnic, stroll through the peaceful gardens, and you must definitely visit the house!

Lotherton Hall was always a place where families could their children, pack a picnic and spend a whole day walking around the fantastic aviary (bird sanctuary) in the picturesque grounds. The House itself being the only one "Chargeable" place that for the first or second visit was value for money. Unfortunately, when Lotherton Hall brought in other charges - by restricting the public from free use of the play park and aviary, the popularity dropped, and so rightly so. Not everyone wanted to visit the House (as I have said, one or two visits is sufficient), and certainly not pay for the privilege of having a picnic with their own food. A shortcut through this charge is by Leisure Card, so I understand, which is one of The National Trust or National Heritage. Besides this, it is with what I believe to be a ridiculous fee, you can access all areas, as long as you have a car full of people. For first timers the experience will be found to be awesome, magical for the kids, and breathtaking for the bird lovers among you.

Magical, beautiful, special to us and wonderful all year round. We even had our wedding photos here.

Lotherton Hall is a great family day out with bird gardens, A deer park and plenty of grounds to walk around. To our discredit we've not ventured into the house so we cant pass comment on that however the rest of place is great, our only niggle is the food I'd take your own they literally cant fry an egg. The bird gardens have a wonderful range of birds, with reasonable sized enclosures so that they dont look too cramped.

Returned to Lotherton yesterday as it's really been to long since I enjoyed it's joys. We took a few members of the family for a day out including one wheelchair dependent older person. I was shocked that admission is now per person (and apparently has been for a while) and that we had to pay to enter the house and bird garden even if we weren't (and actually didn't have time to). The last admission to the house and bird garden was 16:15 and we arrived at 15:45 and then had to push the wheelchair quite a distance along gravel paths from a parking field because the paved and disabled parking area was coned off. Had we arrived half an hour later we could have just paid for parking. The final insult was that, having paid to gain entry to the house only the ground floor was open due to low staffing. A visit to Lotherton is still extremely pleasurable but it's not great for disabled access and I feel that Leeds Council have managed to exclude many people by charging so much for admission ( £5 per adult)

I'm telling you something now, listen up I shall say it only once. Okay, I'll probably say it a zillion times but Leeds isn't just good for splashing the cash or bouncing your brain cells off some seriously good clubbing walls. Oh no, it's a cultural melting pot with heritage galore. So Lotherton Hall is no surprise. It's an Edwardian country house set in wonderful parkland, some way out of the city centre. It's worth the trek though as it's a beautiful example of the period and is a little haven of tranquillity away from the hustle of everyday life. There is so much to see. You'll be able to catch the spring flowers and also walk along the trail where the red deer graze. There is a charming bird garden too and quite simply divine sculpted gardens, that are still lovingly well preserved and a joy to behold. The house itself is worth a wander around too and it's ideal stuff for a lazy Sunday afternoon

I am constantly amazed by the amount of people who flock to Hyde Park as soon as the sun comes out to battle with literally thousands of people for a square foot of grass, forever ducking frisbees and footballs, when there are places like Lotherton Hall just a bus ride away. A little less grand than its rivals at Harewood and Temple Newsam, the relative lack of crowds means you can enjoy the acres of parkland, gardens and woodland in peace. Take a picnic and go spotting red deer, visit the bird gardens or admire the collections of antiques inside the house. It's a beautiful spot to while away a sunny afternoon pretending to be lord of the manor, and if you visit on a weekday in spring or autumn you'll have the place practically to yourself.

A really great place to come with a picnic. My parents came up a couple of weeks ago and we spent a lovely afternoon here, taking the scenic route through Barwick-in-Elmet. There was an arts and crafts fair on in the buildings surrounding the courtyard so we had a wander round after we'd had lunch and then finished up with a cup of tea from the cafe (very good coffee too!). Lots of space for parking, although try and get near to the pay and display machines or you'll have a bit of a trek on your hands. There's a bird garden here which we didn't have time to look round but I'll definitely be coming back to do so.

The bird garden is free although I think the house has a small fee. Its wonderful the kids can see birds they wouldn't see in you back garden and they also have a lovely picnic area. You can easily spend a lazy day here, or a busy afternoon.

Lotherton Hall is one of my favourite places to visit, as a family or with friends. In the Winter it looks really nice and there are some wonderful walks around the grounds where you can see the deer in the field and there is a welcoming cafe if you want to have a hot drink and some food. In the Summer it is great for picnics and playing a game of cricket or football on the large field where you can also park as well. It is also great to get an ice cream and wander around the bird garden where there are some fantastic species of birds. It is great that it is free to go in except for the pay and display for the car park but it feels a great place to go and a bit different to the local parks.

This has to be one of the best value family days out in the area. No admission charge to the grounds or bird garden, but car parking is £3.50, which i think is a cheap day out. the bird garden has a large variety of different types of bird, and also a few mammals (wallabies, rabbits) There's also a well constructed adventure playground (but once the kids have seen this, they won't want to go anywhere else !)

Free, except for the car park, and an amazing day out for everyone. Short and long walks around the ground, a bird garden, which is enormous, and a stately home if you fancy a look round. The cafe is terrible, but take a picnic, and you'll have a great day.

This is a great place to go for an afternoon out. Fabulous for the kids too with the bird garden, deer and lots of places to roam about in. Entry to the bird garden was free last time I went so very good value given that you only have to pay for parking.

This is a great place to visit for all the family, there are nature walks around both the gardens, woods, and even a set walk around the perimeter, there is the house to look in (for a small fee), but more importantly there are the bird gardens, which are a popular attraction, and are free to visit. In fact we often visit as it is very inexpensive, you can take your own picnic, walk the grounds, visit the bird gardens, and then play football, or whatever on the huge grass area. There is plenty parking, which is pay and display, but i think its only a couple of pound for the whole day. There is a cafe, if you want to buy food there, which is reasonably priced for such a place, or get a drink. There is also a separate ice-cream shop, a cold drinks vending machine outside the cafe and throughout the summer there is an ice-cream van too. For an inexpensive day out, this is a place you really should visit.

Lotherton Hall is a great day out for the family, you have to pay £5 per person but for a whole day out and plenty to do it is worth it, you can also go with the method of paying £38 pounds for a year which is definitely worth the money. All the staff were particularly good, but one excelled way above the rest, he was a tall man with gray hair and I think his name was Andy, or Andrew, he was extremely helpful and entertaining. I would recommend the lotherton Hall and definitely recommend buying the year pass if you go there a lot or are interested in that kind of thing.

It's great here, the perimeter walk is perfect for the children to take bikes etc. It's a good long walk with the bird garden at the end. The playground is really superior and newly refurbished. There are sometimes a few teacup rides and a bouncy slide thing for the children to pay to go on during the holidays.

One of the best value places for families in the area. If you live locally, it's well worth buying an annual parking pass. The bird garden is free, there's a free adventure playground, and plenty of room to run off steam in the woods and park. There are regular events, including an excellent pre-Christmas craft day, where you can use freshly cut willow, holly, etc, to make your own Christmas wreath. Only downside is the location of the ice cream van and fun fair, right next to the car park, making them difficult to avoid.

great place to go with the family, take the bikes and go for rides around the grounds and have a picnic after, if you know you will visit a few times a year its worth buying a parking permit. activities are organised through out the year. christmas at lotherton hall is a great way to get in the christmas spirit
