I stayed in the Aloha Moon Cottage for 5 days, and I loved it! The bed was comfortable, the space was perfect for just me. There was a little yoga loft, and the bathroom was pampering! The rain shower was amazing, and the clean tub is surrounded by windows with a dense jungle view. ||I tried to book it again for my December trip, but it was not available. The breakfast brought to my room every day was wonderful as well. This room has a private deck to enjoy.||*My only complaint was the curb appeal when I first arrived. I wasn't sure if I had pulled up to someone's home as one of the other cottages appeared under construction, and the owner's pickup was parked right out front. The koi pond looked a bit neglected. These all seemed like temporary issues, though. I will book this room again.

So glad we found this peaceful tropical retreat when visiting Volcano. We spent 3 nights there while visiting Volcano National Park and the Hilo side of the Big Island. We stayed in the Aloha Moon Cottage. The cottage is lovely - even better than the pictures on the website. The bed was very comfortable, wifi very strong and the bathroom was luxurious - with a large deep jacuzzi tub and a large shower with great water pressure. Location was great - less than 10 minutes to Volcano NP and just. Few minutes from restaurants in the town of Volcano. John is a wonderful host - providing us with everything we needed. He leaves breakfast in your refrigerator for the next day that just needs to be heated up. We had an assortment of wonderful fruit every day along with a different breakfast day each day - quiche, pastries, breakfast burrito. Highly recommend staying here

Host and owner John has created a unique and serene oasis at the Lotus Garden Cottages. The convenient yet remote location allows you to get away from it all while still being mere minutes from Volcanoes National Park. Great care has been taken not only in the living spaces, but also the incredible hospitality with which guests are treated. Our cottage, Hula Moon, was thoughtfully and beautifully designed and decorated. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was ample and spacious. The provided daily breakfasts were both generous and delicious, which we really appreciated since there aren't many food options nearby. Having it waiting for us in the morning helped us get an early start on our hikes, something that's really important when trying to beat park crowds. This quiet and romantic getaway should absolutely be on your radar if you're looking for local accommodations. It will be a highlight of your trip, just as it was for us.

This place is fabulous! My husband and I visited Lotus Gardens with my sister and brother-in-law. We stayed in the White Lotus Suite and they stayed in the Rising Moon Suite. Both were wonderful. My husband and I were there a few years ago and stayed in Aloha Moon Cottage, which is also highly recommended. The place is immaculate, breakfasts are delicious, and the surroundings with the volcanic forest, birdsong, and decor is beautiful, but quiet and relaxing. John is an excellent host. We were close to Volcanoes National Park, but also only about 40 minutes away from Hilo. I highly recommend this special place.

At the White Lotus Suite where it felt like I stepped into a tranquil zen retreat. The room was uniquely decorated with Asian furniture and wall decorations and the Cal-king sized bed was stable and well supported. Also enjoyed the oversized Jacuzzi left my body feeling soothingly relaxed. Explore the tropical garden, fish pond and the outside hot tub. Breakfast was refreshing and well prepared. Great location for the restful and peaceful vacation.

A lot of time and care has gone in to this place. Our room had a king bed and was spacious. The grounds are very well kept and the owner was pleasant and helpful. We arrived on the island and drove here and checked in around 4, it was a very easy two hour drive from Kona. We spent today in the park and are going back to Kona tomorrow with a stop at the black sand beach along the way. Two nights was perfect and there are a few nice places to dine nearby. This is a very quiet place, not just the hotel, the entire area. I would suggest this to anyone staying in the area. We were in the Hula room and it was great.

Stayed for 2 nights this month. Very close to Hawaii Volacanoes National Park. Getting into the park and heading straight to the Lava Tubes gets you ahead of the crowds with the small parking area. We were able to go into the park in the AM then come back for leftover Thai food for lunch before returning back to the park. Note: there are not a lot of restaurants in Volcano, we found a Thai food truck that was delicious. This location felt very remote yet provided a modern and comfortable place to stay. Breakfasts were good with a lot of fruit. Everything was very clean. Shower was hot and had great water pressure. Really couldn't have asked for or expected any more. Great Stay!!!

Google
John was very accommodating especially traveling with a toddler. He provided additional blankets and pillows to make sure we were comfortable. The room we stayed was clean and had everything we need! I loved the little kitchen and the breakfast and fruits he provided. The bed is really comfy and the location is peaceful and quiet. If you are looking to escape crowds while still close to the Volcano National park, you might find this place a real treat! We enjoyed it.

Yelp
What a beautiful luxurious and romantic place to stay in Volcano. Don't think twice about booking this spot, you won't regret it! We stayed in the white lotus suite and this suite was 5-Star hotel material if not better. We loved everything about it: the king size bed, private parking, views of the rainforest from inside with all the glass windows, breakfast is provided, full jacuzzi bathtub that comes with bath salts and bubbles, double shower, double sinks, heat lamp above tub, and access to private patio to enjoy breakfast with a view. I would go back here in a heartbeat next time I come to visit. The owner is very sweet and you can tell that he is very attentive and thoughtful when it comes to the rooms that he builds himself.

Yelp
Amazing in every way! We had the most magical four day adventure and loved everything about our stay in the Rising Moon suite. John is the most gracious of hosts and went out of his way with so many thoughtful touches. The breakfasts were different every day and so very delicious. The soaking bath tub was such a welcome treat after long days adventuring. Highly recommend this little slice of paradise!

Yelp
Absolutely 10 out of 10 utterly and completely stunning. John, the owner, builder and host has done a magnificent job on this amazingly aesthetic place. I've stayed in quite a lot of hotels and resorts around the world and very few have impressed me like this. It's a small privately owned and well hidden gem within the rainforest around Kilauea. It's extremely close to the entrance of the Volcano National Park, so if you're planning on visiting the Volcano I very highly recommend this place. Each room has giant Jacuzzi tubs, beautiful marble tile showers, vaulted wooden ceilings, all the amenities you could ever need. You really can feel the love that John has put into this place. He's poured his heart and soul into it. The Garden is magnanimous, the architecture and woodwork is incredible, especially when you realize it's all been done by mostly one man. Each room has its own beautiful wooden deck out front and a stone patio on the back end. My wife actually picked this spot out after many hours of deliberation. She's the artist between the two of us and has high standards for beauty, design and aesthetics. If you end up staying here I guarantee you'll be as blown away as I was! Thankyou John for your amazing work!

Yelp
* Price: on the high end for the area but is well worthy! Approximately $250 per night (including tax, fee, breakfast, wifi, etc.); 4star * Ambiance: zen, relaxing. 5 star. * Location: convenient, easy to find. Close to the park, volcano village (less than 10 minute drive). 5 star. * Motif: beautiful decor cottage with private entrance, on suite bathroom and tub. 5 star * Service: Mr. Kim is very pleasant and helpful! 5 star. Found this place through tripadvisor and we are glad to stay here! It is beautiful decor with plenty of privacy... not like other B&B. Each cottage is separate from each other, on suite bathroom, seating area, small kitchenette, and dinning area. The decor is beautiful asian Zen motif. The place is very clean. Mr. Kim waited up for us since we got in quite late. Breakfast was brought to your room by him in the morning by 8 AM. It is including local freshly cut and arranged fruits, biscuits and quiche. It is beautiful and delicious! There is a hot tub for guests. Laundry room is on site next to the Hula moon cottage. It is a perfect place to relax and listen to sound of rain and nature! We definitely will recommend this place to friends and family. Will come back... A hui hou!

Yelp
This was a great birthday weekend getaway even as a local kamaaina on the island. Very relaxing, quiet and peaceful cottage in the woods. The hot tub was a nice treat after our day of hiking. We enjoyed the volcano hike nearby at the national park to explore. The delicious tropical breakfast served to us by our host, John was perfect. We chose to stay for a few nights also enjoyed going to the morning farmer's market for fresh vegetables and treats within the same street. We'd definitely be back here again!

Yelp
Came on a rainy day and no one was around because Mr. Kim and a handyman were up on the roof repairing a leak apparently on the room where I am going to be in for the next 2 nights.Luckily the leak was in the bath area and not the main living area. He apparently noticed 15 minutes later that I was standing around. He came down and greeted me and showed me his office to give me a set of keys and later the "hula moon room" Mr.Kim also provided a pair of buckets to catch leaks just in case. The room had a homey feel with the comforts of city living. Wifi ,cable, hot H20,ceiling fan, keurig, mini fridge. A tray of fruits, breads and juice were served every morning to start your day. Guest book in the room and also a note requesting for tip. Furnishings in the room are tired and old from the normal wear and tear of renting out a room.

Yelp
We're staying here now and it is lovely! I highly recommend these cottages for a quiet, peaceful, comfortable stay. John, our host was so gracious.

Yelp
What an amazing experience! When my husband found out this B&B online, I didn't expect much. It is about 10 minute drive from the Volcano Park, and the area was very rural and quiet. From the moment I walked in, I felt home here surrounded by rainforest on the Big Island across the Pacific ocean from the Korean peninsula. It was decorated in a very traditional Korean way: the house itself, furniture, lightings, door frames, and etc. Our room (lotus suite) was perfectly clean and lovely (please see the photos). Listening to Mr. Kim's playing a Korean flute and raindrops , I felt like I am in a temple in deep mountains somewhere in Korea. Mrs. Kim brought breakfast in the morning in three trays. The breakfast was delicious: kao coffee was very good and fruits were juicy and ripe. We enjoyed our stay very much and definitely will stay here again. Thank you, Mr. & Mrs. Kim. We will be back!

Yelp
5 stars. And they deserve more. I loved this place. Stands out as one of the best B&B's I've stayed at ever. The Kims are unimaginably thoughtful and sweet. They really put their lives into making their guests comfortable. And they catch details. The first night, D and I drank a bottle of wine, and left it out on the counter. The second night, we came home from our day on the volcano to find 2 clean wine glasses, and nuts set out to facilitate our own little happy hour. The cottage we chose (I think the Aloha?) was so well kept, luxurious feeling, romantic, hidden away in the rainforest, big comfortable bed, clean, and there was fresh breakfast both mornings - - and I mean full breakfast. Pot of coffee, baked goods, egg sandwich, 4-5 different kinds of fruit, thing of fresh juice. I wish we could have stayed here a few more nights, truly a home away from home.

Yelp
We stayed two nights at this quaint and cozy B&B. We were in the Hula Moon cottage the first night and the Lotus room the second. Both were impeccably decorated, but if forced to pick, we'd rank the Lotus room a tad higher-- very cozy with its own private wraparound lanai. The bed in the Hula Moon cottage, however, is ultra heavenly. Guests also have access a hottub on the grounds and there is free wifi, for those of you who are addicts even while on vacation. Mrs. Kim is very friendly. She prepares a different continental breakfast every morning: it's beautifully presented and very filling, with items from all the food groups. :) I strongly recommend Lotus Garden Cottages if you plan on staying in Volcano or outside Hilo (half hour away). Their website is http://www.volcanogetaway.com

Yelp
Great B&B right next to Volcano National Park. We stayed in the Aloha Moon cottage. The furnishings are beautiful. The bed is fantastic. Seven layers of bedding and a Tempur-pedic (sp??) bed made for a wonderful night sleep. There is a great deck with table/chairs for relaxing outside. The view is all tropical rain forest. Breakfast is bread/pastry and exotic fruit and great local coffee. Induck, the inn keeper, is very gracious. She is an excellent source for local activities. One note - We were here in January. The elevation is high and they actually have a winter of sorts. Nights and mornings were chilly. Take a jacket

Yelp
Back in 2011, my husband and I stayed here for 1 night during our vacation on the Big Island. It was a wonderful stay, the owners were very friendly and sweet. We had a large room all to ourselves, and there was breakfast served in the morning. :) This is in close proximity to the volcano, and easy to find as well. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to family and friends who wish to stay near the volcano in Hilo!

Yelp
Stayed in the Rising Moon Cottage - so beautiful! We loved every aspect - one of the best places we've ever stayed at! We felt sad to leave - it was a wonderful home away from home! Quiet and peaceful. John, the owner, is very gracious. He provided a lovely breakfast for each morning - a great start to our day! We will hold fond memories of this beautiful, peaceful place and hope to return some day.

Yelp
This is an extremely tardy review for an extraordinary place. Last fall, my boyfriend & I spent 2 nights at Lotus Garden, each night in a different room. Both were exquisitely decorated -- Korean with a pan-Asian flair, it seemed -- yet were distinct from each other. The property itself is both lush and hushed. One of the rooms has a walkway going past it, but the place is so small that it still felt private. There also seem to be private nooks for sitting outside each room. And even the outdoor areas have the same Asian touches -- evident, but never overdone. Innkeeper John Kim couldn't be more gracious. He's low-key and available when you need him, but out of sight when you don't. The fresh, beautifully presented breakfasts he made seemed to magically appear at our door each morning. I'd actually stayed here previously under different ownership, & it was pleasant then, but it's exquisite now. btw, if you haven't been to Volcano before, bring a sweater -- it's steamy during the day but chilly at night.

Yelp
What a find! Tucked away in Volcano Village, this 3 room bed and breakfast doesn't look like much from the street. Raised platforms lead to the two back rooms. We stayed at the Korean style room in the back. Very private, quiet, and cozy. Surrounded by rainforest and lanai. My girlfriend loved it. Eclectic Korean-style furnishings, great Tempur-pedic mattress. I liked the flat screen and HDTV cable. Gas fireplace kept us warm at night. The Korean innkeeper will bring you a light breakfast of fruits/yogurt and breads in the AM. If you are visiting Volcanoes National Park I highly recommend staying one night in the Village. Lots of B&B, some cheaper but I think that Lotus Garden Cottages is one of the best. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Quiet, peaceful, beautiful, avoid-the-crowds place to stay while visiting volcanoes national park. Only about 5-10 min. drive to the entrance of the park or to "town" to eat. These are not freestanding cottages, but more like a large house made into mini apartments. I booked the most expensive one hoping it would be the nicest and the advantage was that it was at the back of the building so more private with private deck with table/chairs surrounded by the jungle like plantings. There was a new addition not even in the website pictures that had a kitchenette and very large bathroom with jacuzzi tub and double shower. Every room had views of the lush green surroundings. The building didn't look like much on approach and the owner's office/living space was quite cluttered, but once in our suite, loved it. All in all, very nice, relaxing place to stay.

Jessica L.

Yelp
We had an incredible three-night stay here for our visit to Volcanoes NP. It's a wonderful, quiet, lush retreat; we didn't see any other guests during our stay (though I know they were around, because the parking lot was full), and I only saw the proprietor once, though I know he was on-site every morning. We arrived to our room waiting for us, warm and cozy, with the next morning's breakfast, pastries and fruits, on a tray and in the refrigerator. It was a bit cold in the morning, but the gas fireplace warmed things up nicely. The bedding was luxurious, and it was amazing to sleep under warm bedding in a cold room with the rain falling outside. As much fun as we had in the national park, I would have loved spending more time here.

Yelp
We loved this B&B and John, the innkeeper that was there while we stayed. The best part is the location and privacy of the grounds. We also loved that the breakfast was brought to our room so we could eat it on our private patio (Lotus Suite) - we wish all B&Bs brought breakfast to the room! Breakfast was simple but good - usually two pastry/bread items per person and a lot of fresh fruit. Probably one of the best B&Bs we've stayed at. We also appreciated the super fast wifi, which was unexpected for the location.

Yelp
Best part of this property - quiet. Beautiful rainforest setting. Delicious fresh fruit with the included breakfast. Convenient access to the national park.

Debra W.

Yelp
We stayed at the Lotus Garden B&B last week while visiting Volcano last week. This B&B is probably the nicest one we have ever stayed in. The location is beautiful and very much in the jungle of Volcano. The cottage is very private, clean, and up dated. The breakfast was delivered to our room at 7:30 and it also was lovely and presented in a skillful way. Probably one of the best choices we made while traveling the beautiful Big Island.

Sheri E.

Yelp
We stayed here during our visit to Volcano National Park. At first we considered driving in and out from the west side of the island in one day, but realized that there is too much to see on this side to cut our trip down to one day. Plus we wanted to see those lava flows at night. So we booked a room here and it proved to be so much more than just a place to lay your head. First, it is very tasteful and relaxing. We opened all the glass doors to hear the rain and drank some wine by the gas fireplace. The innkeepers are very hospitable without being intrusive. Also, the bed in our room was ungawdly comfortable. Super cozy and the perfect amount of firmness.

G O.

Yelp
This was a perfect place to stay in Volcano. You can easily get in and out of the park on a daily basis. Each room is private and nicely kept. You can relax and spend the whole day there if you really want to read in the rain forest. We hiked all the days we were there and it was great to get back and relax. We used the foot massager, fireplace and loved the patio. Beds are super comfortable. John was wonderful to us - it really was like staying at a friends house that doesn't get in your business. one of the best B&B experiences. I would recommend for anyone that stays in there to shop at the grocery store and eat at the table of your suite at the Lotus Garden. We were disappointed every place we ate in town - take advantage of all that is lovely at Lotus Gardens instead.

keekee g.

Yelp
What a beautiful experience. The rain forest surrounding the cottages is incredible. John and his wife are so accomodating and gracious. Loved 'Hello Kitty' the resident cat. Beautiful breakfast brought up to our nice table and chairs out on the balcony. Fresh fruit, good coffee with a nice china cup and saucer. Nice touch. They really care and want you to have the Aloha experience. We will return on our trip next year. Mahalo!

Joseph B.

Yelp
Nice location, close to the National Park and the two restaurants in the "town" of Volcano. Gracious hosts Its cold in January, be prepared.
