After travelling for 17 hours we were left standing in the rain in the dark outside of the Airbnb calling the owners 12 times, knocking on the gate, calling out loud for the owners before we were forced to seek a different accommodation. I truly hope this warns you from ever booking this place and that Airbnb takes their listing down.

Loved staying here. The room was so spacious and a very unique set up. My room was in the back of the property in a stand alone structure. Megan was very communicative and quick to respond if I had questions or asked for recommendations. The location was excellent and super easy to walk to some many restaurants and right down the way from the farmer's market. Would recommend!

This wonderful place offered our family a unique experience for sure. We’re used to the standard western comforts of A/C and tv in our rooms - we didn’t have those here which allowed us to slow down and engage with our surroundings differently. Imagine being woken up by rain on the tin roof of your dwelling, but then being lulled back to sleep with that same sound. NOTE - our specific dwelling had a tin roof, other family members who stayed in a cottage on site had a regular rain on roof experience.||Cats, dogs, birds and fish all inhabit the premises, which is a collection of cottages walled off from a central spot in Hilo town. It’s seemingly a world away from the bustle of Hilo, until you’re reminded where you are by a serenade of night music from the restaurant across the way. No worries because Hilo tends to shut down earlier than the Kona establishments and so sleep might only be hampered by nature’s music. I needed earplugs to silence the nightly bird noises, but others in the group were fine without.||If you do decide that this bohemian experience is for you, I’d suggest contacting the establishment directly. Megan is so friendly and accommodating. She helped me consider some trip logistics during our planning stages - so helpful to have local knowledge when planning! And, on the day of check-in, although our original cottage of choice was no longer available, Megan communicated this up front with us and found an arrangement that worked even better!||Thank you Megan and Jasper for helping to make our time in Hilo comfortable and cozy!

This location is city center in Hilo thus very walkable and convenient to many bars, restaurants and the farmers market! Our room was airy, the bed was comfortable, the kitchen/cooking area is sparse but functional and the outdoor garden area is peaceful.

Megan is a very kind host that helped us have a great stay in Hilo! The property is a very cute oasis with cottages. We had the lotus garden room with the swinging bed, which was very original, comfortable, clean and fully equipped. The location is definitively a 5-star as you have free parking and a supermarket across the street, and all restaurants / bars with live music are all within 5min walk. Megan provided us with beach towels, blankets (needed if you do to the top of Mauna Kea!), an umbrella (yes, it can be quite rainy in Hilo) and delicious coffee for the morning. The place felt safe as opposed to what some other reviews says here. Definitively recommend.

This is Hawaii...a comfortable little (Lotus) house we could day trip from, like a cottage in the city. Location is perfect, restaurants, grocery, shopping, waterfront are walking distance. Waterfalls, lava tubes, beaches, parks, 5 to 20 minute drive. Yet a little oasis when needing to relax. Rooms are perfect & clean, beds comfortable, good Wi-Fi. Amenities simple, full size fridge, stove, kettle, dishes, all one needs. Loved the grotto shower. Come with an open mind, chill, eat, play. Megan and Jasper were wonderful hosts, Mahalo.

We were made to feel so welcome and cared for during our stay at The Lotus Garden! Jasper and Megan were really lovely. Amigo was a bit of jerk but added to the charm of the place. The grounds were pretty and green and our little house was bright and colourful and perfect for our stay. ||The Lotus Garden is smack bang in the middle of town so it's in a great location. We were given a tip by Jasper to try the restaurant Pineapples across the street and it was delicious. Also great is the Thai restaurant just down the street.||Handily located is the Laundromat just around the corner.||My family cannot recommend Lotus Garden enough. It may our stay in Hawaii feel more authentic and real, we loved it.

Quaint, charming hotel right in downtown Hilo. Rooms are super clean and nice! on the hotel grounds you'll find lots of tropical plants, avocado and mango trees. Jasper the owner is great. Probably one of the nicest hotel owners you will ever meet. You simply cannot go wrong here. If you are looking for a place to stay in Hilo, The Lotus Garden Inn in the place to stay. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Lotus Garden Hilo The Lotus Garden is a proper garden with native Hawaiian landscaping and natural plants growing everywhere, filling the space with life. It is a compound of different types of living quarters. My favorite place is a studio on th main street. It is a sexy room with a separate sitting area to sip coffee in the mornings. You can hear the energy of morning musings. The outdoor shower has a great water feature that lulls you into sleep like a lullaby. Peace and tranquility reign here. If you are looking for the big box, first-world amenities, don't stay here. There are birds chirping, Coqui frogs and even a few mosquitoes. If you want air condition and perfectly coiffed lawns, go stay somewhere else. But, If you want to "feel" like you are in Hawaii- stay here. Bring your walking shoes because you literally walk to everything you need. KTA is literally across the street. Close to the farmers' market and shopping at all the unique shops in Hilo. Meg and Jasper are a delight. No matter what I have asked of them, they do their best to accommodate. French pressed coffee in the morning, and a Kendrick's and tonic in the evening. If you are lucky, Jasper may play you a song and Meg will tell you of her adventures. Don't just stay one time- this place is always evolving just like a lotus flower, a symbol of rebirth.

Yelp
Rustic accommodations in a tropical paradise. This location is in the heart of Hilo, with close proximity to local fine dining, groceries, and the local farmer's market. This hidden gem provides cottages in a lush garden with a koi pond, serene statues and the sounds of nature in the evening. Access to local venues with live music and shaved ice around the corner. Easy free parking across the street. Cottages featuring nature's air conditioning, small kitchen, private living room, porch, and private bathroom. Stroll through the lush garden area and check out the koi pond.

Yelp
Arriving at night is like a plot from a horror movie! Where to begin.... First off, the site looks just like the pictures show once you get off the main road and go through the gates. Security was my biggest concern. We stayed in The Attic. It is the second story room of a two bed, 1 bath house. Yes, it's a shared bathroom with whomever happens to be staying in the basement room. The house locks up but all of the windows are open for ventilation. Our personal sleeping quarters has a locking knob but the doorframe itself is not designed for a doorknob so the lock is useless. We put a chair in front of the door. The overall look of our room was very relaxing. The garden is very very noisy at night but we actually got very good sleep. There was no private room television or couch. We didn't spend any time in the shared kitchen.

Yelp
Adorable Inn right in the heart of town. An oasis once you step into the garden and away from Hawaii's second largest city of Hilo. Beautiful gardens, water fountain and friendly hosts. Slept well in our spotless Sugar Shack room on the lower floor. The coqui frogs will sing you to sleep here.

Yelp
Stayed in the house for just one night but wish it could have been for longer. Megan is a gracious host, very welcoming. It was easy to find, even on a dark and rainy night and once you step in from the gate, it's a true tropical oasis. The house itself had a beautiful bathroom, spacious living room, kitchen and dining area and the linens were very comfortable. Megan and Jasper together have done great design and furnishing. Their simple "extra" touches are divine - you can't get that in any hotel.

Yelp
Lotus Garden was my favorite stop on our trip around the big island. It is a peaceful, colorful, unique oasis right in the middle of Hilo. The aesthetic is so appealing with bright, airy, comfortable rooms on lovely grounds. Megan and Jasper were friendly and accommodating hosts. I found it completely enchanting.

Yelp
A wonderful spot in downtown Hilo with lots of charm and welcoming, aloha spirit. My partner and I stayed in the "Two Dragons" room for three nights. The indoor-outdoor layout is perfect for Hawaii and is especially cozy during Hilo's morning rainstorms (umbrella's provided!). The inn is centrally located, and the proprietors, Megan and Jasper, were always helpful in pointing us in the right direction. They even went out of their way to mail us an item we had left behind! Highly recommended! We look forward to visiting again soon.

Yelp
First review! We have not spent the first night yet but we have been raving about it since we got to the place. Very nice interior with nice colors. Loved what Jasper had done with the place. There is a private outside shower that is truly unique and special.

Yelp
My family recently stayed in the Sugar Shack for two nights and found it to be very comfortable. We really enjoyed the funky and tranquil charm of the larger property and appreciated being able to walk to restaurants, cafes, the Farmer's Market and so many other places in the heart of downtown Hilo. Megan and Jasper were outgoing and super helpful with advice to help us make the most of our time on the Big Island. We'd definitely stay at the Lotus Garden Hilo again.

Yelp
Very relaxing atmosphere!!! The outdoor shower was a nice treat after a long few days of hiking and camping. Comfortable bed with fresh sheets and plenty of pillows. Walking distance to local restaurants and night life. Jasper also had fresh coffee and milk waiting for us with a french press for our use. Street can get a little loud at night as people don't realize its a room for rent but all we had to do was knock once on the outside door and ppl quickly got the point. Would love to stay here again!!!

Yelp
My wife and I arrived there, tired and wanting to check in. Nobody there. Japser, the person managing the place showed up after about 45 minutes. We started to ask questions and suddenly, the man said you need a hug and advance towards me without out warning. I literally had to say "NO" and push him off of me. I was in shock -- What he did was incredibly uncomfortable and inappropriate. After that incident, I could not sleep that night. I had no idea what this person may or may not be capable of. We left early the next morning. On the way out I yelled at this jerk for being so aggressive. There was no apology, no refund, not even so much as a "sorry about that." Disgusting. If you decide to stay there, bring all of your own toiletries. For $100 per night you won't even see so much as a bar of hand soap. NO radio, TV or any other media. They gave us the wrong WIFI pass code, after we got the correct code, the WIFI didn't work. ROACHES in the bathroom and kitchen. The fridge - completely empty, No amenities - absolutely nothing. After we left we stayed in a B&B not far from downtown. We paid $100per night (same price), the owner was super nice, the fridge had fresh fruit, creamer, milk and even a couple of beers - coffee, breakfast, beautiful accommodations, no inappropriate behavior to deal with. If you are thinking about staying in the Lotus Garden-- don't. Not nice people, dumpy accommodations, no amenities, you will have to move your car every 2 hours between 8AM and 6PM. There is no long term parking within walking distance.
