Is it just me, or does New England have really good corned beef hash?
I was having a grueling food weekend that consisted of Southwest Airlines peanuts and unopened cheese nips. The best meal I had had up to that point was cold pasta with some marinara sauce drizzled on it.
Lo and behold, my sister who lives in Providence takes me to Louis. She often talks about how Providence seriously lacks good cuisine. But with the presence of Louis, good breakfast it lacks not. It seems at first like hippie diners in Austin, but less pretentious. The restaurant decor is random and funky. They were playing classical music (baroque, specifically, at the time), and it was really unexpected.
I ordered eggs, sunny side up, corned beef hash, potatoes, and toast.
The waitress came out with tiny glasses of water, and I asked for some orange juice. "Regular or Large?" I looked at the tiny glass of water and I said, "I guess I'll take a regular," while gesturing to the glass. She eyed me and said, "That's a large."
Oh, right, Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Texas anymore.
Despite the small size of my orange juice (because as ladies-and gentlemen- know, size does matter), the food was plentiful and a bit greasy but soooo delicious. We were licking our plates. Something interesting is that the entire meal lacked salt. Which was awesome, because usually it's the other way around; usually all you can taste is sodium. I added salt to my own liking, and the meal tasted perfect.
