Great place with a really unique vibe! Big portions of food for good prices, with all day breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food was pretty good, it was a bit dry but tasted great! A very family friendly place that I’d recommend to anyone in the area. Check it out!

Google
Totally stumbled on this classic dinner gem! I was staying near Brown University and searched "breakfast dinner near me" and five blocks away was Louis Family Restaurant. I walked instead of driving to soak in the rich history of the older buildings. I had two eggs over easy, bacon and home fries and coffee for $11. Solid classic breakfast served with a smile from a young waitress. I'm from California and a full breakfast for under $12 is very rare. I has happy to tip $5. Heck I came back the next day and had a veggi scramble. Which was awesome, ask for easy onion. BUT the best part about this breakfast was the homemade Blueberry Muffin! It was sooooo good! Don't sleep on the homemade muffins, 10 different choices. The atmosphere and vibe is good here. Mix of of people from young to old. Chat up the hostess/cashier she full of local knowledge and humor. Bonus points for being a Guy Fieri, DDD (Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives) stop. He had the BBQ chicken ravioli.

Google
This place had a really hipster/nostalgic and unique vibe! It's a local diner that has photographs, drawings, posters, and interesting things plastered across the walls. It has your classic diner set up with bar stool and open view of the kitchen. There are also many table. Our server was friendly and really helpful especially considering how many tables she had to take care of. The coffee was strong and they had a basic menu with diner staples. The bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich was just wanted I needed to start my day off. I liked the old school vibe of writing the order on a price of paper and checking out at the host stand after the meal. Overall, great little find!

Google
Alright, I love diners almost as much as I love great food and this place is a solid gem! I love everything about this place and I can't wait to go back and try more of the food. Be warned: the portions are HUGE! The food portions are definitely sized for blue-collar workers who are out busting their hump on the daily, so if you're a desk jockey (like myself) you may want to just share a meal with your company (nice thing is a lot of their dishes come in small or large sizes, so they've got you coveted regardless). Again: love this place and can't wait to go back!

On our way to Newport, we stopped at this amazing place for breakfast. I would like to start with the "drunk johnny" it was legendary. I am an omlette person, but this one stands out of all by far my top favorite one. I loved the coffee it was perfectly brewed and went well with the omlette and potato. The highlight of this place is that even the bread they serve here are homemade, and it is really good. It's worth it and must try if you are in and around the providence. Stop by, and you will never regret it.

Beautiful little diner we stopped at for breakfast, very accommodating for young kids / family friendly.

It's been 9 years since I was at Louis and the quality is even better than I remember. The atmosphere is fun, the people are kind and helpful. It's a special place with great food. The French toast was delicious.

Excellent breakfast and lunch diner. Generous food, excellent vibe, tastes great! Went twice. Wish I had found it sooner. A+++

Yelp
Been here several times. We only had breakfast. They do serve lunch. Diners, Drive In and Dives was here in the past. A lot of students because it is close to Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design. Small restaurant. A lot of wall art and photos everywhere. As far as the food great pancakes and egg dishes. The waiters and waitress's were very attentive. Will continue to go for a great breakfast

Yelp
Louis Family Restaurant is located on Brook Street right by Brown University. The restaurant is a staple of the Providence community among locals and Brown University/RISD students. When we walked in, the staff told us to grab a table anywhere we liked. Inside, there are about 10 tables, bar stools facing the kitchen, and decor on the walls like pictures of the staff and famous people and unique statues. Outside, there are three tables as well. A few tables were occupied on a Wednesday afternoon. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries and my husband ordered steak and eggs and a coffee milk. We didn't have to wait very long for the cheeseburger and the steak and eggs to come out on colorful light plates. Unfortunately, the greasy fries came about 15 minutes later and I was almost done with my cheeseburger by the time they came. The steak and eggs were a big portion; there were 2 pieces of steak, 2 eggs cooked how you like, potatoes, and bread. My husband really enjoyed his meal. The cheeseburger was a typical diner cheeseburger, but the meat was a little dry for my own personal taste. I did enjoy the sesame bun. Maybe I should have tried their pancakes or more breakfast type dishes. After completing our meal, we bought our yellow order receipt to the cashier. Our whole meal came to be $24.84 prior to tip which is a great price. If you are interested, you should visit Louis Family Restaurant just to try it for yourself and check it out since "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" was shot here and it was mentioned in a episode of "The Afterparty," the Apple TV murder mystery and comedy.

Yelp
Get the muffin monday special. Best muffins I've ever had, warmed up on the grill. Great prices for quick and delicious food. Highly highly recommend!

Yelp
I visited this space for the first time when there was a pop up Cuban restaurant: El Colibri! The food was out of this world and the decor is super fun, too.

Will B.

Yelp
Drunk Johnny is a winner. For like $11 you get a ton of food. It's not amazing food or anything - super greasy actually - but the way my friends and I agreed why we like the place is that if we were still broke and in college it would be the perfect place to be hungover on a Sunday morning. Retro diner type vibe in there with lots of magazine/comic clippings on the wall. Free refills on coffee too which is great for that morning after recap. Nice service too.

Brett Y.

Yelp
Ordered take out. Food was not that good. Ordered a side of linguica for almost $6 hardly anything was in the container what was there was burnt. I called and spoke with Erica. She said there was nothing she could do. Seemed like I was bothering her needles to say we won't be returning. Horrible customer service/food

Zaarah B.

Yelp
FRESH SQUEEZED JUICES, HOME MADE BREAKFAST FOODS LOW GREASE, delicious filling, quiet plenty of seats. clean environment atmosphere is esthetically pleasing . food was like moms . A plus Plus Plus

Yelp
Probably a goner....i went here years ago and thought I had fond memories of it being really good- maybe it was the alcohol?? I tried it again with my family of four and ordered online....food was done timely which is great when you have two kids that think waiting 10 minutes is a lifetime. We ordered one omelette, side of bacon, 2 orders of home fries, a breakfast sandwich and a side of linguica....there's no option to choose the bread for the sandwich and the omelette doesn't say it comes with toast and home fries....so I called right after ordering and requested the sandwich be made on an everything bagel....i arrive to pickup and request utensils which she states are in the bag...we get the food to the car and notice we are short an order of home fries and an order of pancakes- also no utensils (my yellow handwritten slip does not show the 2 orders of home fries or the 2 pancake orders, but it's reflected in my order summary and receipt from ordering.... No big deal....i run back in and explain- the woman yells to the waitress to put the order in...I again ask for utensils and she tells me again they're in the bag- i had to request them anyways (again not the end of the world). So now we are complete with our order and I am so excited to dig into to my drunken (that's the name of it)omelette (homemade hash??? Yes please)....immediately cut into a nice bite with my form and I am hit with a short gray hair!!! Immediately done....i can certainly look passed being given dark rye bread as the decision that they made for my meal, which was soggy and saturated (dripping) in butter (and I'm not watching my figure but still)....the hair I was immediately disgusted with...my daughter goes to eat her nice hot griddled pancakes and was then observant of TWO MORE SHORT GRAY HAIRS!!!! We are immediately turned off and end up tossing the rest....my husbands breakfast was edible and was made on a hoagie roll even though I called to specify an everything bagel....really sad because this place has and had potential

Yelp
Such a cute little family-run diner. The food, especially considering the ridiculously well-priced food compared to the rest of Providence, is rustic and quite filling, really tastes nice and homemade even if it's a bit rough around the edges (I think it adds to the charm ). The diner aesthetic is quite stunning as well, and I'm glad they've been able to stick around - hope they'll continue to do so long into the future! Because seriously, the food you get for the price - INSANE.

Will F.

Yelp
We were surprised at this cozy little bistro packed with Brown University students, but the food and the vibe were both outstanding. I had the chocolate chip pancakes which were nice and fluffy along with being packed full of chocolate chips. My husband had the meatball omelet along with a bowl of grits which he stated was really good. Other than that, they had a good menu with anything you could want for any meal although they are only open during breakfast and lunch hours. Way to go!!

Lauren F.

Yelp
Diner spot usually packed with college students. Fun and zany decor. Food is ok, greasy and kinda heavy but passable after a night out. I got basic eggs, toast, and fries. When it's full, service can be a bit slow.

Celia R.

Yelp
Food can be greasy and might not look like the most amazing food but this is such a great little breakfast spot. It's cheap, food comes out fast, they have wine and beer for less than $3, and it's cozy. Steak and eggs for under $12 is unheard of nowadays but the best part is how tasty the food is. If you're hungover in Providence, this is your ideal breakfast.

Tennyson S.

Yelp
first off the tables are quite literally made of trash, not very appealing to eat off of almost looks a bit vomit inducing. i had got the chicken tenders but what came out was chicken cutlets which were very dry and hard to cut. fries were pretty good not anything special. had to repeat my order many times to the waitress and she still got it wrong the first time.

Michael M.

Yelp
This place is straight to the point! Came in ordered scrambled eggs, home fries, and toast and received it all in less than 5 mins. The food and service were good, not great, but definitely a place to grab a quick bite to eat with a friendly atmosphere.

Bruce B.

Yelp
Popular because it's open at awkward hours and has a "diner" vibe that you won't find elsewhere on College Hill. It's more of your neighborhood junkyard esthetic. It's generally cleaned though. But don't be fooled. The food ruins whatever is "okay" about the atmosphere. It's simply awful. The average amateur cook can make any dish (or drink) they offer much better. "Homefries" are soggy and bland, "bacon" is floppy and cold, "toast" is stale... and the eggs? Oh my god! How hard is it to make a soft boiled egg? I got it smushed in a cup with half an eggshell still hanging on. Not exaggerating. Literally half! And of course it was cold. The only reason to go here is if you're starving in the middle of the night and not near home. Won't ever go here again unless I REALLY have to.

Sarah F.

Yelp
I definitely recommend this place for takeout because the food is good and affordable! Would not recommend dining in because it's a bit cramped and chaotic.

Chris D.

Yelp
Been coming here for years and always mean to review. My go to is the Drink Johnny. It's simple in the most perfect way. Tasty corned beef crispy onions and cheese. Make sure you try the homemade hot sauce (It's incredible) Pretty much a spicy catsup with deep flavor. If you like hot sauce on your eggs I 100% guarantee you'll love it. I get pancakes ones in a while and they are very good as well. I'd give 5 stars if not for the home fries. Which may be more of a personal thing. I like them crispy and there's aren't. You can ask for well done home fries and 50% of the time they'll nail it. The other 50% will be a mix of over done, slightly burnt, and perfect pieces. The Drunk Johnny and Pancakes are worth a visit for sure!

Tessa B.

Yelp
Nice cozy vibe inside, very lowkey. Prices are super low (bacon egg and cheese was only $4 and it was filling). Lots of college kids here too, it's a great spot for a quick bite if you don't know where to go for breakfast in Providence.

Kitty Y.

Yelp
Family owned diner that's a great place to go if you're looking for a cheap brunch or lunch. I have only been here once so I can only speak about the one experience I have had here. The restaurant itself is very old school diner. There are a lot of cut outs and pictures posted on the wall. It is kind of a small place but it can fit a 6 people party if planned. I got the French toast and my boyfriend got the #1 breakfast platter. Food is what was expected. It filled my cravings for French toast and my boyfriend got his large portion of meatball omlette, home fries and toast. Nothing too exception here. I don't think it was necessary to put 3 pieces of butter on my French toast, but the more the merrier I guess! Service is quick and you pay at the front when you leave. All in all, not bad.

Nini N.

Yelp
Louis Family Restaurant is a RI staple. They have amazing pancakes (I definitely recommend the chocolate chip ones) and your standard/classic set of breakfast options. My friend loves coming here because they have vegan pancakes, too! I've also tried their omelettes, and they're pretty good (but expect a loooot of cheese haha). Service is fast, and food is good. Food is also affordable!

Anna K.

Yelp
Probably one of my least favorite places that I've tried in Providence. I gave it three chances, but the food was consistently extremely greasy (to the point where my takeout bag was dripping with oil). It took almost 10 napkins to get all the dripping oil off the food. I tried the fish and chips and home fries twice, but definitely will not be back. It's a shame because the restaurant itself is a cute mom and pop place, and it's a family owned local diner. Maybe it's convenient if you're a college student who wants a late night meal, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

Kevo1295 L.

Yelp
Ordered takeout. Every order with eggs had shells in it and was inedible. 0 salt or any seasoning on anything and sloppily put together. Gross.

Michael E.

Yelp
I haven't been here in 12 years! But nothing has changed. Still the same kitchy interior. Great sense of humor, good books on the shelves and large portions. My friend ordered 2 eggs bacon and rye toast. I had a coffee and the poached passion. Which is 2 poached eggs, spinach, tomato and American cheese. It's excellent but the only fault was in the chopped spinach, suspected to be frozen. I'd much prefer fresh spinach. Other then that minor flaw we were most pleased with our meals! We will be back.

Megan B.

Yelp
What an awesome little diner. Louis' is a must for breakfast. Food is greasy and delicious. The drunk Johnny omelet is one of the best concepts I've ever heard of - corned beef and hash + cheese. So good. Portions are huge and they don't mind if you substitute. Staff is super friendly, but the lady that owns the place is a yeller. Place fills up quickly for breakfast, no surprise there. They've got some seats outside too but they're in the sun. Personally my favorite spot is at the counter where you can watch all the hustle and bustle going on. Accepts credit cards and takes to go orders.

Cathy Z.

Yelp
I know it's an institution, but this place should just shut down already. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and I love everything about it. Eggs? The best. Toast? Yes please! The "drunk Johnny" omelette with hash and potatoes in it? Sounds awesome! Unfortunately everything about my meal was just gross and greasy. My mom was unfortunate enough to order the huevos rancheros, which was cold salsa, cold black beans, and cold shredded cheese dumped on a plate. They also use Promise or some other type of oily spread on the toast (and maybe on the potatoes too? Would that explain their limp, greasy nature?). I'm aware of the concept of a "greasy spoon" place--I'm a fan of places like the South Street Diner in Boston, and I've sampled my fair share of scrapple in Pennsylvania--but the atmosphere here was too bizarre, awkward, and dirty to pass off as a classic example of American kitsch. If all the staff weren't drugged out it sure seemed like it; I guess we know how they stay open all night...

Rose K.

Yelp
Is it just me, or does New England have really good corned beef hash? I was having a grueling food weekend that consisted of Southwest Airlines peanuts and unopened cheese nips. The best meal I had had up to that point was cold pasta with some marinara sauce drizzled on it. Lo and behold, my sister who lives in Providence takes me to Louis. She often talks about how Providence seriously lacks good cuisine. But with the presence of Louis, good breakfast it lacks not. It seems at first like hippie diners in Austin, but less pretentious. The restaurant decor is random and funky. They were playing classical music (baroque, specifically, at the time), and it was really unexpected. I ordered eggs, sunny side up, corned beef hash, potatoes, and toast. The waitress came out with tiny glasses of water, and I asked for some orange juice. "Regular or Large?" I looked at the tiny glass of water and I said, "I guess I'll take a regular," while gesturing to the glass. She eyed me and said, "That's a large." Oh, right, Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Texas anymore. Despite the small size of my orange juice (because as ladies-and gentlemen- know, size does matter), the food was plentiful and a bit greasy but soooo delicious. We were licking our plates. Something interesting is that the entire meal lacked salt. Which was awesome, because usually it's the other way around; usually all you can taste is sodium. I added salt to my own liking, and the meal tasted perfect.

Ksp L.

Yelp
Great breakfast plates at affordable prices. My wife's favorite eggs over-easy, home fries and toast.

Chase S.

Yelp
Louis is a classic dinner unchanged for decades with the twist of healthy alternatives and quality ingredients. The prices are still delightfully low -- $2.85 for two eggs and toast, for example--along with the quality food e.g. their hash browns are fresh cut potatoes, get a lot of their food from Horizon Foods. As many others have noted the pumpkin pancakes with whole grains and granola--a delicious vegan/vegetarian option that's a crowd pleaser for omnivores. I'm a big fan of the drunk johnny omelet--corner beef, roast string onions, cheese--filling, savory, but not too greasy. Careful ordering sides--if you get toast and hash, you'll have plenty of food already. I love the decor and atmosphere. From the opera playing on tv and speakers throughout the restaurant, old counter service area, to the freaky and hilarious photos posted from over the years. The 7% Yelp cash back, mileage plus dining rewards participation, and your own credit card rewards makes for awesome triple dipping!!!

Rachele L.

Yelp
A rare find. The last time I was there it was past closing time, I knocked on the door and John (Louie's son) opened up. I said "I'm hungry" -- and he whipped me up a feast, whatever he ate that night, and whatever inspired him. Yes, better than being home. We talked for hours about everything from WWII to how Providence has changed over the decades to literature. It's rare that succeeding generations hold up the standard of the last. John has succeeded. God bless Louis and Dom Gianfresco, Army cooks, brothers, who started this diner just after WWII -- cooking the same way they did for soldiers. So when you come here today, you will be eating some of what soldiers did in '46. Sit and eat blessed under their WWII photo. Then buy some t-shirts and remember

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Loui's is basically a ritual for Brown students. Most everyone has come here after an all-nighter with a group of friends and fallen into delirious fits of fatigue-fueled laughter. This is one place where the ambience matters as much as the food, and just sitting here examining the decor is part of the fun. Loui's nails the funky, vintage diner vibe and has great quirky art covering its walls. The food is greasy and hearty, as it should be. Definitely try: raisin toast, grilled muffins, pumpkin pancakes, and any of their omelettes. Their fruit cups/bowls are also surprising plentiful and ornately arranged. I would advise against the 3-3-3 set, as it's pretty unremarkable to me; it's just toast, eggs, and bacon/sausage that your could get pretty much anywhere. I have yet to try their lunch/dinner offerings, but I'm sure they stand up just as well as the breakfast. Loui's is a rite of passage, just something you've gotta experience!

Fab U L.

Yelp
Better waiters but the guy that served us was very attentive. I didn't like the fact that he spoke over my coffee, although the coffee was on point. The food could be better though, the bacon was horrible, sausages and eggs were ok, corn beef hash and home fries needs more seasoning. The cashier was very pleasant.

Steve V.

Yelp
Had to give Louis 5 stars. I had the #2 Two eggs over easy, Sausage, home fries, & wheat toast. The home fries are actual potatoes unlike pre frozen squares at other places. The eggs were cooked to perfection. The sausage was delicious. We arrived at 10:00am on a Sunday and just managed to beat the large crowd of Brown students of which this place is a landmark. The waitstaff was very friendly and kept coming back to see if we needed anything. Sitting outside at these restaurants, you sometime get forgotten, but not here. I highly recommend Louis for breakfast but get here early before the college kids wake up, or you'll be waiting for a while.

Amy Z.

Yelp
I went there with two of friends today. The lady that took ate was very helpful and Recommended a lot of the good food they have which was eggplant parm, spinach pie parm, and BBQ raviolis. am guessing she was the cook because she went back to cooking our food, which she did a really good job at. This is my only complaint about the place. The waitress that brought our food over to our table, had hair armpits. Which that fine but if you work with food and the Customers she may want to put a shirt on that doesn't show it when she Reaches for the plates or giving them to the customer... don't mean to sound like a bad person about bring this up but just my opinion...

J P.

Yelp
This place is a throwback to days gone by. But you should make the effort to find it. Located outside the Brown campus, this quiet neighborhood hole-in-the wall served a rock-solid meal for a bargain. The food is very good, and the portions are huge. Three of us for breakfast had all we could handle and it was under $30. The service was a bit off but we were in no hurry. I'd go back any time I'm in the area.

Cee C.

Yelp
The home made corn bread was super yummy. Coffee was great. Potatoes are okay. Love the outside of the place. Soups delicious

Natalie M.

Yelp
Went to this place for breakfast for the first time today with a large group, and let me tell you we were so thankful to have a table leaving as we entered because the place is packed! We came here for a good, classic, affordable, American breakfast and that's exactly what we got. The eggs, omelets, pancakes and bacon were all very delicious and hit the spot. My only complaint comes from the home fries - they weren't exactly cooked very well and had a major lack in seasoning. If you're looking for a good place to catch a quick and cheap breakfast, this is your place! It's a cute family owned restaurant that has old antique decor everywhere. I would highly recommend going early if you have a bigger group, we were just lucky!

Danny J.

Yelp
I love this place like I love my uncle. The comparison's actually pretty spot-on, since my uncle is a great cook with a classic, American pallet. Nothing here is "fancy, " but Johnny is serious about his food, and constantly trying new things. Today's specials were Zucchini Linguini and West African Rice. My vegan partner will drive across town before work for the tofu scramble, and before I became a vegetarian, I think half of my cells were constructed from their shepherd's pie.

Brant K.

Yelp
This place is a total dump but that's what makes it cool. Went there for "brunch" and it didn't disappoint. The decor and people are both very eclectic. Cool paintings and other kitsch adorn the walls. If you are visiting Providence and prepping to hit Thayer street, you might consider starting here for breakfast.

Sierra W.

Yelp
Visiting from Michigan, my sister and I decided to get some breakfast before leaving and stopped at this place. I cannot tell you how much this food tasted like home and sitting at my Ma's table. It was so good we came back a second time. We got sides of the corn beef hash and home fries because of how good it was. They make it all home made, corn beef hash was probably my favorite and the hot sauce was home made as well, sweet and tangy with a good zip at the end, and they actually put cuts of the corn beef into it. Got a Eastern egg breakfast sandwich and it will be my new go to when visiting. Nothing bad what so ever would always recommend to a passer by and friends. Cheers!

Jay G.

Yelp
Totally awesome. You think it's a dive but don't let the exterior or interior full you. The food is great. I ate the Drunk Johnny omlette. It ok idea corn beef hash, onions cheese, potatoes and toast on the side. Yoooj plate. We shared a few different types of pancakes which also was incredible and the turkey club was over the top. Can't wait to return

Clarissa F.

Yelp
This was my first trip to this little diner, let me just say I have mixed emotions about my experience. The service took forever and the server was not very happy or personable. I get that I'm here on a Sunday for brunch but would a smile kill you? I ordered the breakfast sandwich and it was actually awesome. I wish I could say the same about the homefries. Like you cut up a potato and barely cook it and charge me 3$. The pumpkin pancakes were decent but I wouldn't say they were the best ever. This place left me disappointed and slightly amused.

Ammi L.

Yelp
Fantastic diner that's tucked off the main beat of Thayer Street. You talk about a family diner? You've got one right here. It's a college student's dream- big portions, cheap prices, the family-like feel of the waiters and waitresses and cooks, the smells of food cooking. It may not be big, but it's perfect for rolling out of a hangover and getting some good food. They've got vegan pancakes. They've got granola pancakes. They've got homemade bread. Eggs are delicious. Pancakes take up the whole plate. Home fries come out hot. Grits for those who want them. Don't go in there hoping to swap secrets or have an intimate discussion about last night's roll in the sheets. It's one large room with a TV playing to the side and not many two-person tables. But if you've got the family over, feel free to take them here.

Leo S.

Yelp
Cheap-quick- and easy. Decent food with amazing price. Server was amazing and friendly. The BEST PART IS HOW QUICK EVERYTHING CAME OUT!! I would say this place is the best if you are looking for low key chill cheap nothing fancy. Be careful there might be a wait if you go during rush hours.

Joey D.

Yelp
Love this place. The boys are great, and the meatball omelet, superb. You want almond milk for your coffee? No worries! And the blueberry pancakes--I died and went to a fluffy heaven. All I can say is tell 'em Joey D. sent you! p.s. What's up with that veggie omelette? I wish I spoke more French, cause "bon appétit!"

Wade M.

Yelp
Dope for what it is. Does not pretend to be anything but what it is. Much Appreciated. Great server! Super college vibe. Don't go there if you are looking for chill and quiet. Not a bad deal tho! Great prices and portion. You will not leave hungry! Very good flavors too! ASK FOR THE HOUSE HOT SAUCE!!!!

Ashley P.

Yelp
I wake up. . .splitting headache, stomach a'grumbling, the fog slowly lifting from the previous nights activities. Wanna get some breakfast? Hells yes! Over to Louie's Restaurant we go. This was my first time visiting this diner and it will certainly not be my last. Having heard rave reviews from my brother who frequents the restaurant on a more than weekly basis, I was excited about finally trying this place. I walked in and was greeted by a tall, aproned man who somewhat bowed and waved his hands presenting to me my choice of tables as if I were on a game show. We plopped ourselves down in between the mass of college students filling the other tables. Service was extremely quick and we had fresh coffee and plates of food within 5 minutes of ordering. I enjoyed 2 scrambled eggs, home fries, wheat toast, and bacon for only $5.80! The prices are very reasonable as is the wide selection available on the menu. Gigantic portions of food. Open 5 am - 3 pm, you can order breakfast, lunch, or dinner anytime of day! The food is greasy but extremely delicious for my recovering mind and body. I learned that Louis, who was a cook in the army during WWII, took most of the recipes for the menu items from his army cookbook. . . with some tweaking over the years of course. The home fries now are the same as what the WWII soldiers were eating. Interesting fact! I highly recommend this diner for a quick bite to eat at a variety of hours. Efficient staff, comfortable and friendly atmosphere, a relief on one's wallet!

Sophie D.

Yelp
Went for breakfast this weekend. Service was fast and simple; homemade bbq sauce was awesome! Food was good and appropriately priced but it still added up at the end to more than we expected. The atmosphere and decor is what truly makes Louis Family Restaurant special and entertaining. Dingy, but in a cute and interesting way. Wasn't sure how clean the surfaces were since people would be seated at tables as soon as dishes were cleared from the previous guests, but it was to be expected. Definitely a charming experience.

Yelp
Keeping it curt, 1980's pricing and good food.....I like the egg special with Portuguese Linguica Sausage.....and keep an eye out for the popular daily specials........Watch for the famous Portuguese/Italian Soup Specials........ I believe its run by a Portuguese/Italian family --- The menu is a hit-list ---

Yelp
Do YOU smile at work all day? I do, but that's the Celexa and Dubble Bubble talking. There are some complaints about the waiter not being friendly enough. THE waiter. There is one person there taking orders, pouring drinks, and running food. He has kind, comforting eyes which look like sea smoke on the Narragansett but according to other reviewers he should also look like a cereal box mascot for them to enjoy their delicious crepey omelet full of reliable white cheese product. When I take myself to lunch, I don't care to have anyone's personality splashed on me. But if that is Your Thing, you will find everyone you encounter at Loui's to be earnest and helpful. Omelets are big, come with hashbrowns (shiny and round with thin skins), and two slices of (barely toasted) toast - buttered, old sleeping bag soft.

Yelp
First off, I'd like to say that if this place ever closes, I'll be depressed. I've been coming here for years and the owner is literally the sweetest man of all time. It's a neighborhood cornerstone :-) The food is delicious, but simple. The service is typical of a diner... Don't expect to be coddled. They aren't rude -- just don't be picky. What you see is what you get... and what you get is amazing food at prices that can be considered an act of charity. My faves? The drunk johnny omlette, the pumpkin pancakes, any of the muffins, and the random special that pop up and tickle your fancy. No-nonsense food with lots of history.
