Louis Hotel

"The Munich-based restaurateur and hotelier Rudi Kull, with architect and co-owner Albert Weinzierl, recently pulled off a coup: He opened the first luxury design hotel directly on the Viktualienmarkt, the bustling age-old market in Munich’s historic heart. And like Cortiina, Kull’s first hotel and an insider favorite, the Louis Hotel is designed with a chic modern alpine appeal: floors and tables of oiled local wood, doors with woven rattan detailing, and a big natural stone fireplace in the lobby. The 72 white-walled, wood-floored rooms feel both fresh and timeless, with smart little details: The TV and minibar are hidden away in a fabric-covered armoire that resembles an old-fashioned trunk; some of the bathrooms have closable windows that look into the bedroom and beyond to the sky; and a narrow wooden table works as a desk as well as an urban picnic table. Emiko, the hotel’s modern Japanese restaurant, is getting as much buzz as the hotel and is a popular local haunt."

"Set in a historic building renovated by local architects Hild and K and Albert Weinzierl, Munich’s Louis Hotel has a prime location on the edge of the vibrant Viktualienmarkt. Stylistically, it mixes the Baroque with the contemporary, complementing detailed stucco, French balconies, and walnut bed frames with luxurious Italian fabrics, oiled oak floors, and designer furnishings. In addition to 72 chic rooms, guests can look forward to a lobby with a large fireplace, an in-house gym and sauna, a trendy Japanese restaurant, and a rooftop terrace with sweeping views over city landmarks like St. Peter’s Church."

Absolutely loved our stay at The Louis Hotel in Munich! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. We had a market view room that was spacious, with a super comfortable bed and excellent in-room coffee. The fridge was restocked daily with free drinks — including beer, which was a nice touch. Housekeeping did an outstanding job keeping the room spotless every day. The location couldn’t be better — right in the heart of everything, with most sights within walking distance. We even rented bikes and rode to the BMW Museum with ease. I would 100% stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Munich!

Loved this hotel. It is in the heart of old town Munich so be prepared for tourists! The hotel rooms are well apportioned, the beds comfortable and the bathrooms late and modern. I loved the roof terrace and the breakfast buffet (wow - so good). You can walk everywhere and also take the U6. Will stay there again.

The perfect cozy, yet stylish, hotel in the absolute perfect location. ||We loved our stay here. I came with my teenage daughter and the room was large enough to fit an additional bed comfortably. ||We felt totally at home - the staff was lovely, the room was charming and spacious and our view of the bustling marketplace was perfection. (And somehow our room was quiet!) ||I loved having coffee while church bells rang, watching the marketplace wake up from our balcony every morning. |I would stay here every time in Munich.

Booked fairly last minute and decided over other hotels as the location looked perfect and booking.com said it was a 5 star hotel. ||This is not in my view a 5 star hotel, there is no grand entrance for taxis to arrive or bell staff, no concierge, there is no spa or pool or choice of restaurants. ||The room ( superior court yard) was very large but lacking in comforts expected, some are difficult to change, others could be updated. Lighting is a little dim, all lighting being lamps with no master so at night you need to switch each one off individually. ||Storage space was lacking, no draws, only a very small one under the desk, the TV very small, and inside the unit with the mini fridge and safe. You could not see all the tv if sat on the rather uncomfortable lounger. ||The safe was so low in this unit, you need to lay down to use it, the mini bar is the opposite and up high, why not the reverse I’m unsure. ||The curtains were very poor, not black out and barely would meet, the blinds behind them also failed to cover the window to give privacy. There is not much to see out the window ( floor 2) just offers a bed of weeds and other building walls. ||The king size bed was fitted with two single duvets, made no sense as they don’t stay in place as too small. ||The bathroom is odd, no toilet, that is in a separate room, with nowhere to wash your hands, no shower screen, instead a curtain which also needs to go round you both sides if you need privacy as there is a window looking out over the bedroom. ||Finally the roof bar - the first evening I was told it was not open to hotel guests as hired out to a private function. But tomorrow night it will be open. Tomorrow night came and it was closed to another private function. I did go and look in the day time, it’s quite a small area. ||Now the good things about the stay here. You will not find a better location, very central and for a tourist like me, simply perfect. You could nip back to the hotel with shopping and head out again. ||Excellent bed itself, nice coffee machine, mini bar filled daily for free, absolutely no noise from other rooms and the air con was good and exceptionally quiet. The room and hotel had a lovely subtle scent which was very nice. ||Staff were all lovely and helpful, breakfast great, and a lovely limo car arranged for my return to the airport. ||Not the sort of hotel you feel like you’re “in residence” but decent enough for a couple of days staying in the city. Maybe get the more expensive rooms facing the market to make for a better in room experience.

This hotel is trash. Beware! The management has been wholly unresponsive.||Upon entering our room it smelled like mold or dead fish. The staff attempted to cover the smell with sprays, which my daughter has asthma. The fan in the bathroom was broken and the maintenance worker said that the compressor was broken. The light was also broken in the bathroom. The coffee pot leaked. Throughout our stay, the room smelled horrible, and given the late notice we couldn't book another room in Munich and also enjoy our stay. The room was shabby and not up to standards for booking the Louis Suite. Given that my daughter wanted to stay in the large bed there was no alternative room available. The staff tried to show us a smaller room, but this would not have accommodated my mother, daughter, and I sufficiently. I have had a lovely stay at the Louis Hotel before, but the level of insufficient service, and genuine horror of the room would hopefully lead you to correct this in some way of a some refund for our awful stay. ||Further, the manager called to let me know that I should meet her at the rooftop grill for food with my family - an apology of sort. She was not there. I arrived with my mother and daughter and was treated incredibly rudely by the staff - they didn't know who we were or why we were there. I said to check the notes from the manager. The hostess was upset and put us in a corner around three tables all smoking cigars when there were other tables. I requested to be moved due to my daughter's health, because the rest of the deck was free - I was told those were reserved. I insisted my daughter could not sit in smoke - by the end of our uncomfortable dinner, the tables were not yet full at all. The treatment continued, and this was supposed to be compensatory for our awful experience - this made it worse. Then, the hostess who was rude to us and acted like we should not be there, billed us after being told the manager was taking care of this as an apology, and asked us to leave as soon as possible. Being treated poorly for a dinner we did not intend to go to and only went because the manager called me was insulting.||This was NOT hospitality. The staff needs to be trained. The room needs to be fixed. It was a horrible experience staying at the Louis Hotel.

The location of this hotel is absolutely perfect, directly across from the market and many popular tourist spots; however, its the service that made me feel especially comfortable — especially Christian who worked for the Louis Grillroom. His attitude, energy and helpfulness was the reason I came back to stay at the Louis Hotel for the second time in a month.

5 stars across the board. Location is superb, close to so many things. A bit touristy, but that’s to be expected. The service in this property is impeccable. I did, however, have a poor experience with the person at the front desk working the shift at 5am, but other than that, the concierge helped me with whatever I needed including recommendations to eat, transportation, and everything else. Everything is within walking distance as well.

Wonderful hotel located right next to the town hall . The staff are very courteous and helpful and the bar downstairs is a nice relaxed place to have a drink post dinner . A big shout out to yuri and th lady at the bar sorry forgot her name . She is from Thailand . They were wonderful hosts . Also the chef who so kindly ensured we got our brand of whisky though he had to get it from another bar . |Great experience overall.

Yelp
I've nothing but love for the Louis. Located opposite the Viktualienmarkt in the center of Munich it makes an ideal base from which to explore the beautiful Bavarian capital. Just a short walk from the Marienplatz, you can easily and speedily train in from the airport. The hotel's spare, vaguely Japanese design appeals - think hardwood floors, muted colours, no superfluous object cluttering up otherwise open space - and so many of the little touches are ones I love like lavender-scented sleep spray next to your bed to spritz on your sheets, a terrific tea menu and an ambient music soundtrack that has twice helped me focus and power through work. The well-trained staff is attentive to your needs, whether they be for a classic cocktail in the lobby or internet access in your room. When I had trouble connecting to the wireless, someone was dispatched to upstairs with a CAT5 cable quicker than I could restart my MacBook! And unlike many hotels, the internets here are free (the way they should be!)

Yelp
I arrived at Louis Hotel in shorts, flip flops and a Panama Hat. You may be thinking: because you were on vacation, right? Wrong. I was there on business (coming from vacation) and the airline had conveniently lost my bags. Joy. That said, I was checked in quickly and efficiently, handed a toothbrush and toothpaste by the sympathetic Front Desk and also told something about my key card -- to which I smiled and nodded (lost in translation). Upon getting to my room, I soon realized they had been telling me that my key card actually turns on the lights in my room. After several (OK, 10 minutes), of trying to figure out how, I located the thing-a-mig-jiggy by the door (technical term) and inserted my card: voila! Lights! The room itself is sparse, but has all your needs: nice bed, view of beautiful Munich, TV, cupboards, Free Internet (albeit very temperamental) and best of all: lavender sheet spray! I never figured out how to use the rain shower head, but did just fine with the other one that's in there. Hopefully future guests will have better luck. But best of all? The service AND the bar. After having many an expertly mixed cocktail in the hotel bar with my colleagues, I toddled myself over to the Front Desk in a borrowed sweater to inquire if my bag arrived. The (again) sympathetic chap said it hadn't arrived, but if I wanted, he would bring it up to me as soon as it did no matter what time. I eagerly nodded, fearing the worst: I would be arriving to my morning's meetings in sandals. But sure enough, at 4am I opened my door to see my waiting bag. Let's just say it was like Christmas had come early! After going that extra mile, the staff, convenient and beautiful location and clean interior would definitely have me excited to stay at Louis Hotel again. Let's just hope my bags come with me next time!

Yelp
My favourite hotel in Munich. Stay there every time. The rooms are beautiful and the service perfect. Was only disappointed to discover that not all rooms have a bathtub... Luckily breakfast will compensate on this bad surprise tomorrow!

Yelp
Amazing food and professionally smooth service from the staff in a very distinguished yet subdued environment. The patrons are all very glamorous looking or very raucous (yep, tourists here too, its a hotel restaurant!). The idea behind the culinary experience here (and highly encouraged by the staff) is to order a few plates between the diners and share in the joy. Favorites: pork belly cubes, soft shell crab rolls, Halibut in some very tasty sauce. Expect shell shock at check time, but even so, it keeps me coming back again and again.

Yelp
Louis Hotel. I almost don't want to review this place because it is so wonderful and I feel protective. Huge rooms that feel like apartments. Windows/juliette balcony with doors that open. Impeccably decorated. Everyone who works there is top of their game. The restaurant and bar were consistently impressive - For a California girl, finding this caliber of Japanese food in Munich was a true surprise. Really interesting cocktail menu - I recommend the Umami. One thing to note - if you are there for work or otherwise really care about having great wi-fi, mention it to the desk/when you book and request a room with good wi-fi. Mine was strong the whole time I was there but some colleagues on the other side of the hotel had issues. Hotel moved them to better wi-fi locations and problem solved.

Yelp
This is a very nice Hotel and it deserves five stars for location and the courtesy of the front desk staff. Why four stars? Two reasons. The beds are horrible. Maybe it's a German thing, I do not know, but it is pretty much like sleeping on the board with a scratchy wool blanket. We also had an incident in which we requested room service not showing up. We were not satisfied with the desk managers handling of the issue, but I will not dwell on it. The staff......awesome. The location....perfect. The market is on one side. The glockenspiel is on the other. The hofbrauhaus, Residenze, oedenplatz and Asem's church are all an easy to get to on foot. The U-baht is also very close and easy to navigate. Parking is off site and city traffics is a bear.... Be prepared!

Yelp
I would give this hotel 5 stars for the location alone. It is perfectly situated between Marienplatz (a central town square) and the Viktualienmarkt (a beautiful outdoor market). If you want to visit any other spots, you are close to a subway stop as well. The Louis Hotel also offers a few bicycles to casually see some sites as well. The rooftop courtyard looks directly at the tower of Alter Peter (a historic church), and you can get drinks and cocktails from the rooftop bar. The staff was very courteous, making our stay comfortable. We ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant, which offered some traditional Bavarian options (white sausage, pretzels, etc.), and lighter options (fresh fruit, yogurt, etc.). It was a bit expensive for what was offered, but for the convenience it was worth it to me. For dinner, we also dined at Emiko, the Japanese restaurant in the hotel. We only had edamame and a few sushi rolls, but I enjoyed them and felt they were fairly priced. After a week of eating heavier Bavarian food, this was a welcome bit of variety. The overall vibe of the hotel is understated, but it feels like the management has put a lot of thought into the smaller details. Even the hallways are pleasantly scented. The hotel room itself was nicely appointed. The shower had a nice rainfall-style shower head, and the Ren shampoo and body wash were refreshing. I had come across these products separately and know they are well-regarded for being mild, which is key because I felt the air was a bit dry in Munich. I was a bit annoyed by the pair of twin-sized duvets on the queen-sized bed, but this seems to be standard in Germany. It seems like it is easy to have your clothes laundered, but I would have really appreciated an iron and ironing board in the hotel room. Wearing a slightly wrinkled shirt around the hotel detracted from my experience there, but I didn't want to go to the trouble have it sent out to be ironed for my short stay there. The one thing that I would say is seriously lacking for a hotel of this quality is the fitness center. The room is very small, and there isn't much in there. To be fair, it is sufficient to get a reasonable workout, but it doesn't feel on par with the rest of the hotel experience. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to others, and I will plan to stay here again if I return to Munich. I felt like the Louis Hotel offered me the chance to relax and to conveniently see my favorite parts of the city.

Yelp
This is a fantastic hotel that we have visited the second year in a row because of the amazing vegan buffet breakfast, which now serves European pancakes vegan. The rooms are beautiful (upgrade to the deluxe one) and the staff are helpful, friendly, and make one's stay a lovely experience. This hotel is in the center of the city, close to everything and one can walk anywhere. We hope to return here every year that we can.

Yelp
Staying at room 306 and I loved the look of the room. Corner with dual walk out windows and awesome bath. Then I went to boot up my computer on the bed, whipped out the paper with the wifi details and logged in. 2 minutes later a huge bed bug was walking across the paper. UGHHH, walked the bug on the paper downstairs and they gave me another room. Needless to say, only time I've ever paid 300+ for a hotel where bed bugs greeted me. Would never stay there again.
