"In October 2023, the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport powered up its new geothermal heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system—the largest of its kind in the US. More than 600 “wells,” dug 500 feet under the ramp area adjacent to the terminal, use the earth’s temperature to enable an efficient heat exchange that cools the building in the summer and heats it in the winter. Engineers estimate the system will reduce the airport’s carbon emissions from heating and cooling by more than 80%, and save around $400,000 per year—a compelling example for other transportation hubs that are considering making the switch."

Great clean airport. Easy to get in and out of. Goos signs to guide you in. But the TSA line is way too long been here 25 min now.

I have had the pleasure of flying in and out of Louisville International Airport, and I have to say, it was an absolutely fantastic experience each time! From the moment I walked in, I was struck by how clean and well-maintained the airport was. The terminals were spacious and airy, with plenty of natural light and comfortable seating areas. But what really stood out to me was the level of customer service that I received throughout my time at the airport. From the friendly staff at the check-in counter to the helpful airport security personnel, everyone I encountered was professional, courteous, and eager to assist in any way they could. I also appreciated the wide range of amenities and services that were available at the airport. Whether I needed a quick bite to eat, a last-minute souvenir, or even a relaxing massage, there was something for everyone at Louisville International Airport. Overall, I would highly recommend Louisville International Airport to anyone looking for a stress-free, enjoyable travel experience. With its exceptional customer service, top-notch facilities, and wide array of amenities, it truly exceeded my expectations in every way. Well done, Louisville International Airport!

Google
Nice welcome to the airport for our Imaging USA 2024 convention. Airport is very modern and and clean. If you want to order coffee at Starbucks order online in tsa then pick it up. I only waited 5 min for my online ordering right outside the store with a line of 20 customers in the “order at counter” line.

Natalie Koffarnus

Google
Nice airport. It's tiny but seems to have all the major airlines and dropping off/picking up was a breeze. Also the parking is very close! Baggage came out quickly.

Carol Toggweiler

Google
Fantastic airport....but signage entering can be really confusing even for locals. Pay close attention. If you want to eat and drink... especially bourbon...this is your dream airport. Nice shopping as well.

Google
Usual airport experience. Could be ok, could be terrible. Air travel is just a long process any way you cut it. To/from airport, parking, check in/baggage, TSA strip down & bag dumping, shuffle through to the gate, corral up for boarding, huddle close with strangers in your seat 💺 row, try not to breathe the recirculating bacteria 🦠 air, pray to get alert air traffic controllers and rested, trained pilots, hope for take off/landing to be safe. Wash it all off when you get to destination.

Brian Griffiths (LiquidZero)

Google
Expected a 2 hour boarding process but ended up at our gate in under 20 minutes. Not too bad. Should be only 3 stars because the food process are dumb. Overall, not too bad at all.

Business AsUsual

Google
I really like this airport. Its clean, its simple. Its easy to navigate. The one thing l dont like, is that every store, bar, restaurant shuts down at 8pm.....why? Overall l love this airport

Yelp
Updating my review because some things have changed since I last wrote about SDF more than four years ago. First, the cell phone lot. It had been a hassle to park and wait for loved ones to arrive considering all the recent construction. If you had previously found this frustrating (*raising my hand*) check out this info from the airport's website: "If you like to wait in your vehicle until your guests arrive and call your cell, we recommend parking in our Express Shuttle Lot that offers a 2-hour grace period at no charge." This is a help and A LOT closer and more easily accessible than the temporary cell phone lot that was on Crittenden Drive. Second, I parked at the airport for the first time for a recent trip and found this experience to be a breeze. I was able to pre-pay for a spot in the Premier Parking Lot at $14/day. I got a QR code that I scanned when I arrived and when I left. And I was able to easily get from my car to the Southwest counter after a five-minute walk. I will definitely do this again for future trips. SDF seems to be regularly adding new restaurants and other amenities. Plus I love seeing all the photos of Louisville near the TSA checkpoint -- always leaves me feeling local pride. It's a smaller airport, but for me, that just means less wait, a shorter distance to walk and hopefully fewer headaches. SDF is something to feel good about when traveling.

Yelp
Departing: So I was always afraid of going to this airport because the drivers I encounter in Louisville are just horrible at driving PERIOD. Backstory: My ma wanted to save on checked in bags and so I had to go by Southwest, which only flies out of Louisville and so this is why I had to haul my butt an hour and a half to this airport. Anyway, I make it to I-264 West (which I hate making that exit) and I end up at the airport in peace. I find that the parking lot is full and then I get into the parking garage with 1 parking spot on the 2nd level. It is amazing how this parking garage though can tell one the number of spots open. That is pretty cool. Anyway, I get my bags and walk not even like 1000 feet and I check in at Southwest's desk. What I did not know until later was that I was on the second floor of the airport. The airport is built on two levels?? The 2nd level has the TSA, check in counter for Southwest (probably other airlines as well) and then the gates. Arriving: The walk from the gate to baggage claim is OMG! They need to fix this. It was not as bad as I thought when gathering my bags and getting to my car. Honestly, I think the worst part about this airport is that it is accessed by interstates. I much prefer Bluegrass Airport, where one can just take Man O War and then airport road and then loop back to Man O War. Airport Road is also like 15 mph and so people are not flying past you. I always feel like someone is going to blindside total my butt when I am in Louisville. My ma obviously does not care about my convenience or my life. This does not help my situation either. I feel like I am going to have to like this place from now on.

Yelp
Muhammad Ali Louisville Airport is now rocking after new renovations. This place has rocking chairs like The Charlotte Airport, new horse pictures/art pieces, new vending options like battery charging machine, heathy fresh sandwiches around $10, and more. Appreciate this small airport is easy to manurer around. I always park my car here and a tip I use to find my car when I return is to take a picture of where I parked it. The picture will include the row information to make finding it really easy. Additionally I check the airport website before coming to check the latest information for flying. Check out this refreshed airport and as always, happy flying.

John R.

Yelp
Small airports usually do better than this. Maybe it was United more than the local crew at the gate, but even security did not seem to be running as smooth as it does in other places. The good news is that the size of the place makes up for most annoyances since what you need is not far away. You can grab some last minute souvenirs here, especially of the liquid kind, if you only pack for carry-on, which works but don't expect too much variety on that side of the fence.

Maddy A.

Yelp
Often rated the best airport in the world, with stunning amenities including a butterfly garden, cinema, and art installations. Efficient transit processes.

Royce L.

Yelp
Easy airport to fly into and out of. Everything is in one terminal, and once you get pass security there are two terminals, A or B. Plenty of stores and restaurants in both terminals but it's small enough that you can walk between both if you have time.

Joel H.

Yelp
This was my first time at this airport and it was very impressive. Clean, bright and easy to navigate. I guess you know you're in KY based on the number of bourbon ads and stores throughout. The Champ is definitely a hometown favorite and the people let you know it. There are plenty of signs and pictures reminding you of who this airport is named for. The place is a giant just like the giant. Regardless of size, this airport was extremely easy to navigate through and I never felt like I had to do an excessive amount of walking to get to a destination, be it the luggage carousel or the outdoor spot to pick up our Uber. This seems like a nice airport to explore the terminal and interesting shops they have here especially all the places that you can buy Bourbon. KUDOs to the team at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport.

Yelp
Five stars because Kentuckyanas I agree I'm not sure if I have the spelling incorrect. In any case here are my points: Small cute airport compared to many of the larger ports I've been to. People are friendly they really don't know how to react to those of different races and color other than black or white. The eateries are coffee shop or restaurant, restaurant fast food type Where you going, they have these little carts that take you to your gates, wherever your gate may be I've been sitting here for at least one and a half hours and I will tell you my observation is that the price point that you eat or drink at this airport is by far less than what I am accustomed to many folk leaves. I think it's because they think it's too expensive I don't know. At least I know my way around this airport if I ever come back to the city again. Ahui hou

Yelp
Although i found this airport to be decent, I did find that it lacked certain amenities, especially when having to sit in the airport for an extended period of time. My biggest issue was the lack of food options. Other than a few sit down restaurants and a grab and go sandwiches, i found the lack of options to be un appetizing. I ended up settling for Smash Burger and got a 5 piece tender and tots for like 14 bucks which in my case i got shorted a tender so it was only 4. I also found the lack comfortable seating to be annoying as well. With only a few workstations scattered around, and rows of seating against the hot windows, your pretty much limited to the seating around the gates. I know this is a smaller airport but overall i thought it could use an update.

Gary C.

Yelp
Small airport but everything was done so fast we went to gate super early. That's not a bad thing at all. I was told they had a USO but didn't see it.

Ben S.

Yelp
SDF IS AMAZING! SDF has fast security lines and good views at the aircraft. They can improve by speeding up the baggage claim.

Kevin G.

Yelp
This is not an extraordinary large airport so it is easy to maneuver through. The TSA Precheck line was literally a 20 second wait while the regular line was backed up. There are really good eateries in the airport and of course plenty of bourbon choices. Even though it lacks a lot of amenities found in larger and more upgraded airports the minimum wait time and ease of movement earns it two thumbs up.

Dee W.

Yelp
Easy airport to get in and out of there were many restaurants to choose from, the food was good at KFC which I wouldn't expect less from "Kentucky" fried chicken. It was smaller than some larger scale airports but bigger than airports in Northern Michigan It was clean in the restrooms overall satisfied.

Yelp
My original review was removed because Yelp determined that the incident in question did not take place at this location. It did, in fact, occur here so I will upload my receipt as verification. A brief summary of my original review: the Starbucks employees were basically having a meltdown and refusing to warm up any food. I was in dire need of something of substance but the girl that was supposed to be on ovens decided she would rather sweep the floors (literally). As a former Starbucks employee, I can empathize with the high demand and constant lines around the corner but she gave up even trying. It took everything in me not to walk around the counter and toss some sandwiches in the oven for her. I asked for a butter croissant instead and said they could just throw it in the bag because I needed something, anything, but this was not at all what I wanted or needed in that moment. They were also out of venti cups so I ordered two grandes to make up for it. An underwhelming experience, to say the least. I tried Chili's afterwards but after sitting there for 20+ minutes without even being acknowledged, finally gave up. I was literally in tears by then and having my own meltdown because a) I was starving and b) it seemed NO ONE was capable of fulfilling their job capacity. This all occurred almost 3 months ago but thinking back even now, I am shocked how terrible the service was.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Ok. Top secret information here. Need a huge bathroom all to yourself? Take the elevator to the right of Starbucks, to the m level. Turn left out of elevator and bam. Huge, clean private bathroom. Was there for two hours and saw one other person use besides myself.

Alli C.

Yelp
I'm a frequent traveler and maybe I finally figured out that the best hour to arrive at SDF is 4pm: I left my house and was through baggage check and TSA precheck in 21 minutes! Current status: there is construction at SDF, but the flow is working pretty well right now!

Joani O.

Yelp
I love this airport! I will say that coming from Chicago it is a little bigger than I was envisioning, yet it was super convenient coming in and going out. Bags came out quickly and the place to get an Uber/Lyft was close by once I got outside. They have decent eateries and shops, and in checking back in on a Sunday afternoon, I was the only one in line to check my bag, and going through TSA Pre-check took like two minutes!! I am soooo not used to this...LOL. I had time to kill and got some very inexpensive souvenirs for my family and lunch at Chili's. My gate wasn't ridiculously far either. I'm a fan!

Yelp
Parking has gotten easier with the latest upgraded expansion, but I still wish the signage was better to help me navigate more easily when visiting at peak time and traffic is congested. People drive crazy!!! Upper level is check-in and terminal drop off. Lower level is pickup and also baggage claim. Plenty of escalators and moving sidewalks inside, as well as elevators. I also visited the further away Cell Phone Waiting Area lot for this particular visit, which was to do a pickup. It is much improved over the prior version from a few years ago and feels more organized with a shuttle service, covered shuttle bus bench while one waits, and also feels much safer due to very apparent monitoring. When I travel and have to leave a car in the parking garage, I try to choose the crap-mobile from my fleet rather than my sweet ride because at least half-dozen Dodge Chargers and Challengers have been stolen in the past few months per the local news, as well as a friend of a friend's wheels and rims (returned from a trip to discover the car on blocks). So, Be Warned -- the security monitoring in long term covered parking SUCKS. https://www.wdrb.com/news/crime-reports/nothing-left-mans-car-stripped-bare-after-he-says-thieves-stole-it-from-louisvilles-airport/article_f677b622-c5e9-11ee-8a2d-a3a1041bea9f.html Louisville man charged with stealing Dodge Challenger from airport https://www.wdrb.com/news/crime-reports/louisville-man-charged-with-stealing-dodge-challenger-from-airport/article_bbcb93c6-d0d5-11ee-ac08-77cb2990fc36.html The airport is easy to navigate with only 2 terminals -- small, but gets you to where you need to go. Several gift shops, sit down and fast food restaurants, and a shoe shine station are on premises. Restrooms are fairly well maintained and Free. Happy travels! :)

Franco C.

Yelp
the SDF. I have been through this airport about five times now and I find that I do not mind going here at all. The airport is large enough to get the job done, but it is a comfortable walk from the gates to the exits and vice versa. Security lines move fast on the way back through. TSA Precheck is available but not Clear. Terminals are somewhat small but functional. Restrooms are clean and well maintained. There are decent food selections available if you have time to kill and there is a decent variety of flights available to get you going off to places unknown... or wherever you need to be. There is some Muhammad Ali stuff floating around to honor their namesake. All in all one of the better airports to fly in and out of.

Bill U.

Yelp
Quick and easy airport to navigate through. A couple of decent food options to choose from.

Kelly F.

Yelp
THIS is well run airport!!! I usually fly in and out of SFO and this airport is so much better. Easier to get in & out of. TSA is quick & efficient. I also love that they have vending machines with food and water everywhere. I have been at SFO so early in the morning and there are no options to even purchase water.

Mike D.

Yelp
Overall Louisville Airport not a bad airport. In fact, on their busiest day of the year (the day after Derby Day), they moved along a massive surge of people quite well... but the terminals could use a serious technology update. There is an utter lack of outlets throughout all of the gates in both terminal A and B. And speaking of updates, the restrooms are dated and left me feeling kind of dirty. Adding another restaurant or two would be helpful too. I know Louisville is a smaller city and this is a smaller airport... but the city houses the fifth largest conference facility in the US (the Expo Center), so they must get a decent amount of traffic through here... so presumably many travelers experience some of these same pains. *****FIVE STARS*****

Amanda D.

Yelp
Still a great airport. I appreciate the dedicated Uber/Lyft/Taxi lot as it makes it easier if you are doing any type of ride share. Navigating the airport is super easy. With TSA Precheck, I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes to get through security (knock on wood). Still have yet to have a bad experience using this airport, even with flying more often over the past few years.

Katelyn F.

Yelp
Easy airport to fly in and out of. Quick lines at TSA, decent options for food/drinks, plenty of seating and places to charge electronics.

Bill M.

Yelp
Really nice airport. Easy to get in and out of. Liked that the rental car desks are still near the baggage pickup and not off site. Didn't get to sample and restaurants or shops as we went straight through when arrived and departed but there appeared to be lots of good choices.

Jasmine A.

Yelp
I have been to SDF twice -- when I flew in to Louisville, and when I flew out, in September 2021. Both times I was only in the airport briefly, including very late at night when everything was closed and I was in a hurry to get to my hotel, so I can't give an extensive review of the airport. However, from what I remember, it wasn't the best, nor was it the worst airport I have been in, and there wasn't anything particularly noteworthy, aside from the WiFi cutting out a little in certain areas, which was annoying. SDF is on the smaller side, but it does the job. Overall, no issues. [Yelp collections: Louisville, KY 2021; Planes, Trains, and Automobiles]

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
I definitely don't recognize this airport whatsoever. I've flown out of here several times while I lived in the area. Coming back after a few years this place is unrecognizable. Maybe it was that unmemorable before however, this airport is beautiful now with amazing restaurants and lots to do. It's still in the smaller side, but beautiful and seemingly brand new.

Michelle Q.

Yelp
Easy to find off interstate. Parking and terminal easy to navigate. Small enough that made navigation for quick interview w global entry able to park, walk and interview in under an hour. It is a quiet airport. Clean, safe, staff were friendly. Found the global interview had temp location on 3 floor behind Spirit airlines. GPS gives weird directions when close to parking and will send to cargo lot. Follow the signs to terminal parking and enter at ticketing.

Reia B.

Yelp
Very small airport. Don't be hungry and looking for food after 5pm, it seems like everything was closed or closing. My waitress at Chili's was nice and attentive and she was swamped.

Randy J.

Yelp
This is a nice medium sized airport. I've been here several times before and it's always easy to maneuver. The staff is always friendly and I find it to be clean including the restrooms. Just a great experience ever time that I visit this airport.

Mar F.

Yelp
Our SDF is easy to navigate and TSA line are fast to go through. You don't have to buy bottled water, bring your empty bottle and refill it for FREE at the drinking fountains usually located by the bathrooms. That takes me to another highlight of this airport. the bathrooms are very updated and clean! If you have an early flight Chili's, KY Fried chicken Starbucks are open for business. Other small kiosk are available throughout the airport if you need your newspaper or small snacks or even some nice shopping store before you go through the TSA check point for a last minute souvenirs.

Jon K.

Yelp
Smaller airport, somewhat easy to navigate , nothing to say wow about , nothing to get pissed about .

Kate C.

Yelp
The TSA security part of this airport was super quick and there was plenty of charging stations on the other side, which are the two things that I care the most about. Also, my airport hotel shuttle literally got me to the airport in two minutes and it was free so I felt like a winner. I docked a star because the food options are pretty limited here. I would murder someone for a salad or something that wasn't a burger, barbecue and pizza. I've been eating those things for the past four days - Feed me some overpriced greens!

Sharon H.

Yelp
This was my first time going through Louisville International airport. First this is actually a small international airport but I believe that is why it has charm. And because it's small it makes it easy to get in and out of the airport and saves you time as well when checking in because there aren't large crowds. Until next review kisses

Lia M.

Yelp
This airport has everything you need. It's not huge but it's got the basics: restaurants, convenience stores, souvenir stores, and a bourbon tasting room. Plus some Illy vending machines and electronic accessories vending machines. Some areas of the terminal were very warm and some were very cool so if you are uncomfortable, just walk to find a different area. It was quite inconsistent. I was through security in a minute or two. You don't need to get here super early for your flight. The signage does need to be better, especially for arrivals. There was no signage for ground transportation and the doors aren't labeled. Though it's small it's long so I felt like I was walking forever to get outside.

Bob A.

Yelp
I like smaller airports because they're simpler and generally easier to navigate. They also have more limitations as far as food and drink choices. If you're getting an early flight getting a cup of coffee takes longer than getting through TSA. Parking is easy/simple and close to the terminal. Picking folks up or dropping them off is also simple and drama free. More than once I've picked folks up from the airport, parked in the garage for free, and been pleasantly surprised. It's a clean, well maintained airport with seasonal displays that are very Louisville or Kentucky's centric. A great airport, coming or going!

Taz D.

Yelp
It has been a few years since I've traveled out of Louisville International Airport; but I can see I was very pleased with my experience. My husband and I were going on Christmas vacation to see family elsewhere; and with the hustle and bustle, everyone was really nice and pleasant and the airport was decorated with beautiful Christmas trees all around the airport. I love that they had a water bottle filling station as well, just as soon as you get done checking in! Despite having to be in a wheelchair, the process through PreCheck was relatively easy and getting onto the airplane. I will definitely travel through this airport again, as my experience was amazing!

Kathy L.

Yelp
The staff at the check in counter were nice and courteous. The airport was clean and the bathroom were clean and well stocked. I liked that they still had some food options open by the time I got there. However most restaurants were shutting down the kitchen and had limited menu options. The self serve kiosk with sandwiches, chips and drink and more was stocked and had options. The only downside I didn't see charges at the seating. Just a desk like set up that was packed of people using all the plug ins. The seating area was decently comfortable while waiting for my flight to board. Airport TSA was quick & easy as well for the time of my arrival and check in.

John B.

Yelp
An easy airport to get through, and a reasonable start for many different airlines (unlike our minimal airport in Lexington). Driving from downtown Louisville takes ten minutes-maybe fifteen in traffic. There was some outdoor surface parking as well as a garage, and the price was better than any alternative I could find. Getting through security was a breeze. There weren't quite as many charging stations as I'd hoped. The biggest negative with the airport for me was the lack of transit options to get there, but once you're there, things are pretty good.

Marc L.

Yelp
Small airport ... limited offerings food wise. But everyone is nice enough and you can maneuver the grounds very quickly. You won't get lost. Car rentals conveniently located. A good place to fly into and be quickly on your way. Welcome to Louisville!

Lisa W.

Yelp
Very small airport and there wasn't much open when we arrive and departed. We departed pretty early around 7-8am and the only thing that was open was a Starbucks. The Starbucks line was crazy. But the security gate was really long and even crazier. I felt bad for all the people waiting. Luckily we had TSA precheck and only took about 5 minutes. The regular line, we talked to some people took about 40 minutes. Crazy. Only one line to get in. No priority lounges.

Chey D.

Yelp
Great airport. I've flown in and out of here 30+ times and it's one of my favorites. It's big, but not massive so it's not a pain to walk and no shuttles are involved. Great stores and places to grab snacks while you wait (bottles of water aren't $5 a pop like a lot of airports either). There's a big Starbucks between A & B as well as a Chilies and many places to grab a drink or buy a bottle of KY bourbon before you hop on your flight. So far I've never waited in a TSA line more than 15 minutes and everyone is pretty nice, which is more than I can say for a lot of places!

Joel B.

Yelp
Well...it's a nice airport with the usual amenities. My first of what may be regular visits, so 4 stars this visit. Venders and AP personell friendly and attentive.

Sandi B.

Yelp
I get it. This is a small airport. And I understand they can't control flights delayed by the weather. However, every vendor in the building closed at 8:00pm... The stores are closed. The restaurants are closed. Even those who advertised that they are open until the last flight departs. Leaving stranded travelers with no options for for or drink.

Dianna B.

Yelp
This was my first trip to the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport and I know it wont be my last. In the past I've stayed at a hotel near its base, but this time I actually flew into it. It is a small and neat airport, that brings some of the Charm of Louisville right to you when you get off the plane. The Photography, the decor all of that gets you ready to go to the Bourbon trail, the horses and all that is Kentucky. It was an easy in, and an easy out. Truly it's a good airport.

Areal F.

Yelp
Welcome to Kentucky and before I even leave the airport I'm introduced to Bourbon you got to love it

Krystle S.

Yelp
This airport needs SIGNS!!! You have no clue where anything is, then the employees are lacking in the customer service department. No sign No help If you've been here before then this isn't a concern but if it's your first time you better study up otherwise you are SOL IF I COULD GIVE THIS AIRPORT A NEGATIVE I WOULD. So disappointing

Mike J.

Yelp
There are some good things about this airport. Not being very big is one of them. However, like a lot of stuff that goes on in Louisville, the airport does not seem to want to provide any amenities in the airport. Like decent food options. This morning it's tater tots only at the smash burger. Why bother? Louisville wants to be something but is relentless in its pursuit of mediocrity. This is just another example of.

Axel Q.

Yelp
I barely fly and I come here mostly to pick up our grandma. But through the parts I been through. VERY NICE. Oh and I forgot. We got the UPS pub and Boeing 747s are at the airport. So five stars
