Louisville Mega Cavern

had a great time. the lights were amazing. i loved on how there were no signs for the characters and we had to guess. that was really cool. i really liked on how it stays around 70 degrees year round. its a must see if your in the louisville area. so worth the money.

This was a pleasant stop on our way back home from visiting family for Thanksgiving. Its extremely festive and our family enjoyed it. Music plays as you drive through multiple scenes in the cave. It took about 20-25 min to drive the entire route. It was worth the $49 for the vehicle. We are a family of four and thought it was good. Highly recommend a stop if in the area. It is something different and unique, plus they have alot of fun recognizable characters.

Always incredible! Great for adults and kids of all ages. Well worth the price and the 2 hr drive :-) Our second time going. It was Saturday evening so the wait was an hour +. Definitely would recommend going early in the day or on a weekday. We did this our first visit and there was little to no wait.

I've only visited to see the Lights under Louisville so I can't speak to the other activities they have but the Lights Under Louisville are amazing. I highly recommend. We visited on Black Friday 2025. Expensive at $45 + tax a car load (we purchased online ahead of time, it's my understanding that it cost more at the gate.... it last 30 minutes. But the lights are beautiful and the music joyful.

Great tour guides: Zinner & Tanner on our ziplining activity. There are 5 courses in this location. It was very fun and safe. The best part was the last course where we raced down (2 people at a time). We recommend this fun activities in your list!

It was a very special and fun experience. I cannot complement our two guides or whatever those wonderful ladies are called. Ray and Amanda were above and beyond infinitely helpful with our massive group. So much fun!

I loved this place, it’s a really nice place to go with the family during this time of year. Honestly, I do feel like it would have been better if the tour had been more interactive, like being able to get out of the car and take pictures. Maybe, I don’t know, but I really recommend it, it’s a beautiful place.

THIS IS A MUST SEE PLACE! The Chrstmas light display is the cavern is MIND BLOWING! I thought is was going to be another cheesy Christmas light display....OH NO! The crew or company that put this display together are GENIUSES! My jaw was on the ground the whole way through the cavern. It was so amazing and I wanted to go through again and again. I drove 5hrs from Cleveland to see the Mega Cavern and I did not want to leave. I highly recommend this place!

We went on the zipline tour, it was REALLY fun. Julian and Norton were our guides and they were great. They were very friendly and made us feel safe. I would highly recommend both the zipline tour and Julian and Norton as guides.

We came here for the Christmas lights and will definitely be back to check it later for other events!! Amazing!!!! Definitely a must-do for the holidays. I have seen the billboards and ads but was like it can't be that good and it's like $50 a car...hmm well I am so glad we booked and went. Not only is it insane that you literally are driving into a huge cavern in your own vehicle but the size of it is is ridiculous. Then add in the light shows and it's breathtaking! It's about 12-15 minutes drive at a slow pace and you have light displays from all sorts of known Disney and other companies as well as a laser light show (so be careful if that causes you any medical issues). The price is well worth it!!! Come on out and check it out!

We so VERY wisely waited to check out the lights when it was (1) the week after the Christmas holiday, (2) on a weeknight, and (3) early evening prior to sunset. We drove right into the venue and leisurely enjoyed the idling pace for a half hour with no one on our bumper. We had learned from other participants that the week prior was absolute chaos with lines of cars that stretched for MILES and waiting in line for HOURS. The venue is underground and is dark 24/7 and is open daily; however, it seems most people want to go after sunset!!! It's OK -- go early!!! Lots of lovely lights, but sorry to say quite a few were burned out. Also, the experience is quite expensive ($60!!!) and beyond what I feel it's worth.

My review is for the walking tour of the caverns. I think it would be beneficial for the venue to have different Yelp pages for review of the various activities that are available at the caverns (e.g., zip line, tram ride, walking tour, Christmas light display). We arrived at the cavern early, as advised, to sign our waivers (parking was free in a dedicated lot). We waited for our tour in a small area that served refreshments. Restrooms and lockers for securing valuables (probably more intended for those who are zip-lining) were available in this area as well. Next we were provided with safety vests and flashlights for the tour. The temperature in the cavern is always cool and I was happy that I wore a long-sleeved shirt. I was also happy that I wore sensible shoes that gripped the bumpy terrain. The walk took about an hour and the guide provided our group with some history and facts about the caverns along the way. I think the tour would be better if the tour guides had a microphone, because it was difficult to hear the guide if you were in the back of the group or when group members talked among themselves. What we saw was interesting, but I had hoped for some different types of rock formations. I hope to check out the zip lining and Christmas light displays in future visits.

The mega cavern rocks! I zip-lined here years ago and had a fantastic experience. I was so happy to come back and enjoy the light show for Christmas. I would call myself a Christmas light connoisseur and this light show was by far the BEST I have ever seen. I can't wait to come back in the future and bring kids to enjoy. It was so well done. Truly a great experience. Also, there is so much to do here beyond the lights. A wonderful experience for family members of all ages!

The Christmas express tram through the lights under Louisville was great! Everything was beautiful and it was so nice not having to worry about driving and just be able to take pictures. I also did the zip lines and that was so much fun! Riley and Julie were great guides and made the whole experience wonderful! If I were to make any suggestions I would ask that they consider taking a picture while a person is on the Zipline if you purchase the photo package, instead of on the ground. I also think getting to walk through the Christmas lights could be cool, maybe once a month or once a week have a special night. Otherwise it was a great location, highly recommend.

A good time was had! Even with my fear of heights, we braved the indoor ziplining. There were one or two drop points that straight up looked like a bottomless pit in the underworld--definitely took me a minute to psych myself up for--but the staff was super patient and funny about it, and my group lovingly hyped me up. The waiting/lobby area has a few different activities, like a hurricane wind simulator. We hung out at big community tables, playing Heads Up from my phone and subtly adding sports broadcaster commentary to the open rope climbing course. So time went by fast enough. Overall, solid and unique experience--family-friendly, but also a fun way to push yourself if heights aren't your thing. It felt like a silly little win.

The place is awesome. The history is awesome. Our tour guide was awesome. I HIGHLY recommend doing the walking tour if you're into history or geology. There are negative reviews on here, but they seem to be for the tram tour only. So like... don't take the tram? That seems easy enough. Plus people have reasons they are not able to walk or zip-line, so I also suggest some people check their perspective before leaving reviews. But that's just my 2¢ Genuinely, everything was so fun, the only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because AI art was used in some of the projections. !!!SUPPORT REAL ART, SHEEPLE!!! Anyway, enjoy the cavern, and you know what, enjoy that day of yours!

We went for Lights Under Louisville! Around every bend of the cavern was a different theme of lights (underwater, Star Wars, superheroes, etc), so you never get tired of seeing only winter/Christmas displays the whole drive. We don't have kids, but it was still super cute for a date. And the cave was awesome.

Christmas lights We took my kids to see the lights under the city and it was a great experience! We went on a weekend in the afternoon and there was no wait. We paid at the entrance and then provided to drive thru the displays. The displays were creative and had many themes. They had music playing. It was great to be able to roll down the windows and enjoy the experience without getting cold. It took about a half hour to complete.

What a unique experience to zip line in a cavern! At check in we were told our group was "fully booked" so we were expecting a crowd. However, the tour was 10 people (and two guides) and honestly did not feel super large. It did seem like maybe some of the lights weren't working and the music was not playing, but we still had fun flying through the cavern. Our guides, Cam and Caroline clearly worked super well together and we felt safe the whole time. If anything, I wish there was more of a "cavern tour" included to learn about the cavern and history, but again our guide Cam had lots of insight when we asked! Pricey, but a lot of fun.

We had planned to go to the Falls of the Ohio State Park but it was too hot to be outside (mid 30s, Celsius) so we booked a walking tour of Louisville Mega Cavern, as it was underground, and a temperature of 15C was very appealing. Tickets were $20US and we were able to book tickets the morning of. The Mega Cavern is a limestone cavern, mined for over 40 years between the 1930s and 1970s. It's approximately 100 acres and spans under the Louisville Zoo, and due to the mine's support structures, it's classified as a building, and is thus the largest building in Kentucky. The 70 minute tour wasn't overly exciting, and in fact the holiday/Christmas lights, while pretty, were a little cheesy, but it was 70 minutes of comfort in the cool cavern. I wouldn't say the Mega Cavern is a must-see attraction, but if it's a hot day, it's a good place to get a reprieve from the heat. And we had a tour guide who was entertaining and knowledgable. Let me save you the time (and money): if you're looking for excitement, wonder, or anything remotely mega, the tram tour at Mega Caverns is not it. We climbed aboard what I can only describe as a sluggish airport shuttle from the underworld, and for the next 60 minutes, we slowly cruised through what felt like an abandoned underground parking deck with mood lighting. The guide tried their best to make phrases like "this used to be a salt storage area" sound thrilling. Spoiler alert: it wasn't. At one point, we stopped to marvel at... a rock wall. Not a special rock wall. Just... rock. With a light on it. There was also a recycled Christmas light tunnel that looked like your neighbor's leftover decorations from 2009. I think they called that the "highlight." The audio was barely audible, which honestly may have been a blessing. I caught something about a Cold War bunker and mining history, but by then I was too busy wondering how I ended up paying money to be mildly cold and very bored. In short: if you enjoy slow rides, dull facts, and looking at concrete, this tour was made for you. If you're a living human with expectations of entertainment--run

I have been here twice. Once for the climbing corse for my daughter's birthday. We had a great time and ended up stopping before our time was up because we were wore out from climbing. It also includes a couple of small zip lines which were our favorite. We hope to try their actual zip line one day. We also did the Lighters Under Louisville. It was fun, but very Cheesy. It is something we were glad we did, but wouldn't want to do for probably another 5 years. It was similar to every other drive through light show just under ground.

Stunning Christmas Lights!!! Love that we should go during the day because it's in the caves! We went on Christmas Eve at 10am and they had no line! We have gone before a few years back and I loved everything new they added!!

The Mega Cavern Christmas show was spectacular as always. For first time rode the tram train through it instead of driving. If you choose this route, come a half hour early. Took more pictures than I can post. It had several themes from super hero's to movies. Enjoyed the disco balls which brought back memories. The kids loved it and reacted to most of it. The hour ride was a fun and relaxing experience. We went today and crowd was light like I like it. The parking is free and the memories are forever. Highly recommend.

A really cool concept - rope courses inside a (mining) cave. We did the basic one, so the review is on the basic one where you could see the entire rope course at the ticket sales table. I think for someone who hasn't done rope course or for younger kids, this may be appropriate. Since we, including my 7-year-old, have done a few outdoor, bigger and higher, rope courses, this seem a bit easy and small. I appreciate the double carabiners safety devices and measure they have in place there. All staff are really friendly and helpful.

This year is better than ever! The decorating is amazing. We were impressed by all of the details! We went early on Christmas Eve and the line was very short. The $8 off coupon made it more reasonable. I highly recommend it! Tips: Plan to ride with your windows open so wear a jacket. It's cool in the cave.

Ease of getting tickets and access. I had been on this tour many years ago so decided to take my brother in laws there. All was good except the tour was short and not that impressive. When I first went tour was 1 1/2 hours long and more detail. I was not that impressed with it at all. Staff were nice, friendly and helpful.

Went last weekend with a good friend of mine from my local congregation. I had no prior experience to this place at all, and my friend had been like once in middle school. We did the walking tour, and the Mega Quest adventure. We were not disappointed. Firstly the walking tour with Ross was a smash! This man went above and beyond to make the experience engaging and fun! He is a theatre major at the University of Louisville! He did a great job at making everyone feel included from the jump, asked us questions, and when he could tell morale was getting low he even had his own fascinating story to bolster the mood! Stellar performance by Ross. Next we tried the Mega Quest, which was the most fun I've had all year! I've went out of town, to clubs and bars, and this little America Ninja Warrior-Style obstacle course with zip lines took the cake! My friend was not prepared, so I had a good laugh the whole time, and we both got a really good workout. I'm 6'2 and 190Lbs and I really enjoyed it -All two whole hours! We are going back today to try the zip lines.... I'll let you guys know how it went. May Jehovah bless your day. All praise to Jehovah God.

Had a bit of a rough start but it worked out better after we were on the tram tour. Parking was a little obscure. You had to drive around some hidden corners to figure out where proper parking places were. There was an initial waiting area under a veranda, but there were some locals who told us to go around. They were not very friendly. Eventually got all the way down to a mining camp looking activity center. Prices went from relatively high to a little bit crazy. I'm not paying $140/person for an activity. They don't have receipts for that either. They don't take cash. Credit card only. That was weird. It's a little too progressively leftist for my preferences. In that, I felt the service was pretty poor. Later on things were a little better. Had to sign a waiver which isn't entirely surprising, but the waiver was "we can take pictures of your minor kids and use them anywhere we want at any point in the future", and "part of your holding us not liable means paying our attorney fees", and "we're going to spam you to death". It looks like older boiler plate, some thing that's been around for 20 or so years, because there are particular more modern terms they're not actually using. They have to go specially out of the way to print receipts, so no paper cash, no paper receipt. I'm surprised because owners prefer proof of fees with receipt, and lawyers prefer such things in paper for any lawsuits. The tour guide is kind of funny. Little bit extroverted. I think the guys name was Don. Not sure. Apparently they have some sort of a Christmas light show that's supposed to be amazing. On the tour of the light show was amazing. They have some really beautiful and fun stuff. If all I had was the cashier and paying, I would've thought they were anti-American, but they seem to be a little bit pro people here which is nice. Not gonna do any of the other stuff, but the tram tour was worth seeing.

The mega team ride is... Lame. It was boring and the tour guide/driver seemed to actually hate her job. Many "facts" shared on the tour were demonstrably wrong. This was nothing but a cynical money grab to fleece curious people of their money.

I am from out of state and was very impressed with what we saw. My family and I took the guided trolly ride through the cavern and our guide Graham was fabulous he answered all our questions and was very knowledgeable and kind!!!! I would defiantly go back and do the ziplining and suspension bridge!!! They had clean bathrooms and I would recommend it to people for all ages it is fun for kids and my elderly grandparents as they could do the trolly ride. I can't Waite to come back and hopefully see there Christmas light extravaganza.

This is an interesting piece of mining history alone & so based on that its worth the visit. Plenty of car parking out front then a short walk into the 'cave' to what is the admissions / waiting area. Must use credit card... no cash taken. The tours are grouped every hour on the hour for walking. It's pretty fascinating seeing this huge carved out cave under Lexington. Russ the tour guide was a bit of a goof ball. He had a speaker / mic set up but I personally could not understand much of what was said. Truth be told I don't think I really wanted to anyways for he was busting out corny joke & not really giving too much factual information. It took an hour to walk around it & I was entertained with what I saw to make it worthwhile.

My kids 8 and 10 participated at the Mega Quest, and had a ball. Here are some general thoughts about the experience. The confirmation email advised us to arrive 30 minutes prior to the quest time, which we did. After a quick checkin process, since we had filled out all required waivers beforehand, we sat around for more than 40 minutes. There seemed to be plenty of staff around but our start time came and went. About 12 minutes after we were supposed to start, staff called our group over. My kids were doing this solo since I'm afraid of heights and didn't want to pay $36 to do the low ropes course. Guides were helpful in explaining the gearing up process and making sure all equipment was tight. They have smaller helmets and gloves for kids, you just had to ask. Then there was a brief explanation of the hook system and they were off. At first I was nervous that I should have participated too since the kids seemed a bit confused, but they caught on quickly. They explored high and low, rode the zip line and climbed obstacles. We were told we had 2 hours on the course but I never heard folks being called off of it. After about an hour and a half my kids threw in the towel. Afterwards guides helped them de-gear and we purchased drinks and surgery snacks from the snack shack. They also sell t-shirts and other merchandise. Overall a good experience. I think it would have been helpful if an adult participated with them the first time but all in all they had a great time.

Me and my dad went on the zipline tour on Friday it was awesome everyone was really nice and very informative. P.S. we were in group 3.

I did the self guided car tour last year, which was fun. This year we took the trolley, which my great neice very much enjoyed. If you like Christmas lights, holiday music, and being underground, it's a cool event.

The Mega Cavern is a unique and fun place to visit! Ross was an amazing tour guide. It was very entertaining and educational. My family and I had a great time!

OMG, this was so much fun! I felt super safe and informed with Caroline and Sydney! They were super fun and took our safety very seriously.

This adventure was the best idea, something different, and it did not disappoint. I just happened to find this before coming into town by a google search of things to do and decided to give it a try for something different. I registered, purchased tickets, and signed wavers all online and via digital delivery. It was so easy. I pulled up and drove around and found the location. There was not anyone else really around and even though there were signs I didn't know what to do. I think those main tour doors needed to be construction orange or green with a big clear enter sign. After going to the a side Cavern Entrance and finding a worker (guessing the warehouse side or construction entrance), I asked for better direction. I went around and went in the right doors and down this creepy hall, all adding to the experience. I walk into this massive room and there was the tram, some construction equipment, a town façade and waiting area. I made my way over and when walking into the underground welcome center was warmly greeting by seven or so staff. There was a gift shop, snack area, very nice restrooms, and an open indoor ropes course to the side. My tour was the first of the day of a Thursday so that was probably why there was no crowd to follow but it added to the adventure for me! The price was $21.94 and the tour lasted a little over an hour. It was awesome to see the inside and understanding the history and purpose of the cavern and it's evolution. There is also storage and other functions of the cavern, as well as, underground zip lining, hiking and other activities and to choose from but the tram ride was perfect, especially given the shoes I brought. Shout out my tour guide Skeeter! He was the best! Ask for him! Great guide, extremely funny, and delivering an up beat, educational tour with a side of humor. I won't give away all the history and stories so there will not be any real spoilers from the tour but I will say this was a great experience and so glad a booked the tram tour. It was definitely something different and fun to do.

Too fake for us. I'm not sure what we were expecting but it wasn't this. We did the tram tour and while they've tried hard to make it entertaining, it just isn't. Our 8 year olds were bored 10 minutes into the tour. We came to do the ropes course but it was more like Main Event than anticipated so we passed on that. I would only recommend that for very little kids. The only thing that seemed really worth doing was the zip line and our kids didn't weigh enough .

ZIP line was the very best ever with #1 tour guides Cam & Kendal. What a rush, thought there was only one zip line and discovered we had a total of five. Well worth the fee and time. *****

My brother wanted to take me on an adventure to these caverns and go zip lining. I told him I am not zip lining anywhere- as I get older I'm now not fond of heights and being suspended in mid-air envisioning the line snapping did not seem like an ideal vacation to relax for me- it seems more anxiety producing! Well, when we got to the ticket area there across it was some sort of zip lining and walking across a wobbly bridge and I told them oh I can do THAT if that is what it is! Lol, "ma'am that is the kiddie play area..."OH...." face turning 50 shades of red, I'm sure! Dinosaurs then it is! Actually, I thought it was pretty cool! Didn't know there were so many kinds of dinosaurs I never even heard of like one with 5 horns on its face! I liked traveling through the lights and the corny jokes of the tram guide. Up my alley! Wished I could have brought my grandsons here who love dinosaurs. Think it would be cool during the Christmas light show! So enjoyed my adventure!

Visiting Lousiville for a convention and as we were getting ready to leave, my friend and I opted to go to the Mega Cavern for an experience. She was able to get a zip line tour and I did the walking tour, both of us were happy with our experiences. For her, she got to do 5 different Zips over the various depths of floor level that has or hasn't yet been filled in. She said that it was fun and that she totally felt secure =. Leanna was my walking guide, she was fun and personable, she gave us the facts about the difference about caves and caverns, explained how much land that the caverns actually took up. It was a nice, long, cool walk since the caverns stay at 58* year round I enjoyed myself.

This is a great Christmas display. I think it's a little pricey for a drive thru event. The tickets must be bought online and paying in cash is not an option. The displays were very nice there is supposed to be music throughout. The music is playing in spots. There are a lot of spaces with no music at all. For some reason there are fog machines throughout. It doesn't smell great because of dust and car fumes. They have incorporated something for everyone in the light displays. There are traditional, cartoons, super heroes, zoo animals, dinosaurs, patriotic, religious, and sports related scenes. Kids will love this. It costs about $40. There is no smoking, shopping, and lights must be turned out. There's plenty of security and emergency exits. There a trailer potty on the premises, we we're confused where to park for it tho.

I was expecting the mega cavern to be...cavelike. It is not. It is rather a giant mine in which everything looks identical. Imagine visiting an empty wear house. The tour guide tried to make it interesting, but all he really was able to talk about was how cool the lights show is that they put on at Christmas. So I would maybe come for the lights, would definitely not come for the tour.

We did the tram tour of the cavern. This was nothing more than touring a storage facility with black tarps and drywall hung. Tour was boring with the guide talking about the Christmas light tour and the things they store. Nothing like the pictures at all with all the rocks looking the same. Our group is disappointed to have fallen for this expensive tourist trap.

This cavern is mega, but Ross's personality was even more MEGA! We did the 1 hour walking tour and had a great time with our tour guide Ross. Would recommend to anyone looking for something fun to do in Louisville.

Mady, Austin, & Nathan were awesome guides who not only made sure we had a blast but ensured safety was maintained as the top priority. We had so much fun & recommend to everyone!

This was a cool visit. We took the tram ride through the cavern and our guide John was cool. He was very knowledgeable about the history and was quite entertaining. I will definitely return and next time we are ziplining.

My friend and I took our daughters to do the ropes course but the staff was rude. They were not helpful to our two little ones.

Trying to be adventurous we tried this while in KY. We had never zip-lined before and were nervous. The tour guides were friendly and helped us feel safe. Because it is underground the paths and platforms getting on/off the zip lines are poorly lit. I actually fell off a platform because I could not see the step. Was hanging there by the safety line. Ended up massively bruised on my arm and leg. Likely a hairline fracture in my arm. That being said, the tour guides felt horrible and checked in on me multiple times during the rest of the tour. I just recommend they add additional lights on the paths and platforms.

Stuck and waiting for over four and a half hours for Christmas light show is NOT a family fun event. They oversell tickets and have ZERO traffic control. Greedy horrible company. Zero stars.

Maddy and Julian were fun and made the zip line adventure fun. The only downfall was the large groups and having to wait so long between lines. Other than that the cavern experience was fun. The music and neon lighting helped keep it exciting. Felt very safe and secure the entire time as well.

Definitely worth the cost to do the ziplines. The 3 hours goes so fast. The caves are lit up with different lights, so it's very unique. There are some lines you can't even see the end so it's super fun. Our tour guides Hunter and Dylan were awesome - very funny. One is goofy and one has very dry humor, so it's a hilarious dynamic. Annie went above and beyond for me - great customer service. *Your shoes will absolutely get muddy, don't wear bright white sneakers; but if you do, talk to Annie.*

Went to the Christmas lights at the Mega Cavern it was absolutely fabulous. Never stopped and were in there for a little over an hour. Never been before and totally worth the trip from Owensboro. Thank u to all that put this event on.

I would give a zero if I could. For a Christmas light show there should not be a 4 hour wait. There should be specific times people buy their tickets and limits because it is obstructing traffic. Even when we tried to get out of the line it took almost 45 minutes and we were 100 feet away from the exit. Next year make it possible for tickets to be sold out. Waste of my time.

After several years I brought my boys back to the Louisville Mega Cavern for a walking tour. At $19.99 per person it's the same cost as the tram ride. We walked approximately 1 hour through the cavern with safety vests and small flashlights for the dark spots. The tour guide shared a few facts about the cavern's history, including political insights during the Cold War. Overall, it was a nice walk through but with very little to look at I'd hoped we'd hear more fun facts about the cavern and Louisville history. It was also disappointing to see that displays haven't been updated in years - so if you've been on the tram ride at any point since the cavern's opening, you've seen what's on display. I'd skip the walking tour if you can't keep up with fast pace walks or would be concerned about extremely bumpy terrain. It was also difficult to hear the tour guide if you lagged behind the group. I won't be recommending the tour to friends, and believe I could find more information during a quick Google search. What may be of interest for a return trip is the Mega Quest ropes course or zip line. During the holidays they have a drive through lights display. The bikes course is no longer available. Free parking lot available for visitors. Make sure to come early due to the walk from the lot to check-in. Waivers can be completed online or upon arrival. Nice restrooms, cheap lockers and refreshments available. Party packages and rentals for groups. From a local perspective the Louisville Mega Cavern has become stagnant and it makes it hard to put on the "must see" list for visitors to our city.

Completely bamboozled by these people. We signed up for a walking tour and got there 5 minutes before it started and sat to wait to be called. 10 minutes after the start time we asked if we missed the call and they said no. 20 minutes after we asked a different person and still told it hadn't started. 45 minutes later they put us on a train tour because "we missed the call". The train tour was dumb and couldn't take any decent pictures, and they refused to reimburse my money or do anything to compensate for a bad experience. Will never be back.
