From the moment we walked in people were so friendly with us despite the crowd– – – And it didn’t feel fake. The menu selection is robust and the food itself is delicious. The muffin selection is huge. They have donuts galore that they make on the premises. And they have gluten-free and vegan options. Vegetarian options. I completely recommend eating here when in Hanover. Breakfast or lunch.

Google
Service is fantastic! I have a pretty big interview later today and this place put me right in the spot i needed to be. Reasonable pricing and amazing food, cant recommend enough!

Had an amazing breakfast at Lou’s Restaurant! Ordered the breakfast steak and egg quesadilla and the California breakfast sandwich. Both were packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The quesadilla had tender steak and perfectly scrambled eggs, while the California sandwich was fresh and hearty. The portion sizes were generous, and the service was friendly and quick. Definitely a go-to spot for a satisfying and delicious meal!

Google
This place is the cutest little diner in Hanover. It’s like a blast from the past with all the pics and booths and low bar seats. The food was delicious (chicken and waffles!!) and service was great (considering Sunday brunch rush). The pies that we came to pick up, unfortunately, were just average tasting. We’ll def be back to try the other things on the menu.

We went during the breakfast rush and although we got seats right away, the food took a long time to arrive. The waitress offered us complimentary donuts or muffins while we waited. Of course my husband took her up on that and he got an enormous maple bacon donut. Our breakfast was hot and delicious. 10 stars.

Google
As you travel to the Hanover/Dartmouth college area, don't miss a lunch or breakfast at this place. Sometimes there's a line that forms inside and it's just a wonderful classic, New England, clean and modern. Really pleasant place to eat. A student favorite, I believe.

Google
Stopped in on our way to Vermont based on the very high ratings that they receive. For diner-type food and experience, it was good but not exceptional. The prices, however, are very expensive for what is being served. It is 30-40% higher than other diners that I've been to in NH. With tip, we spent over $70 for two adults and one child. Probably the most expensive breakfast I've ever eaten in New England. Just the kid's pancake was $10. Maybe Hanover is just expensive, but I found the pricing here to be absurd.

Google
Outstanding local dining experience on the main drag in Hanover. This local establishment has been around since just after WW2, and is a mainstay of the Hanover scene. Although it’s moved on from its diner roots, there are plenty of old favorites that harken back to that era. I went with a breakfast burger - bacon and eggs on top of a huge patty served with a side of home fried potatoes. The baked goods also looked fantastic and the coffee was excellent. Very filling, simple, and done very well. There is inside and outside seating, good service, and great food.

Yelp
Always time for breakfast or lunch! We stop here every time we come to Hanover. Lou's food is always delicious and the choices/combos are many. They are always busy because they are that good.

Angela B.

Yelp
Five stars for all. Can't imagine anyone giving this establishment less. We had breakfast and it's hard to give a breakfast 5 stars in my opinion since most taste the same and could do better making it at home. We had the Smokey garden scramble with Gouda cheese, squash and kale. It was really flavorful and good. I tasted my son's poutine bowl and I would definitely order that next time for myself. The steak and egg quesadilla was top notch and they did a good job with French toast and waffles. Even the hash browns were really good and didn't need ketsup. Tanealle did a fantastic job. The only negative was the gentleman working the pastry counter. There was literally no one in line. Everyone was seated but us, and he insisted that we move against the wall away from the bakery case and he seemed to instruct us to do that with a little bit of attitude, but I got over it as soon as I sat down but certainly it was uncalled for. I assumed the bakery case is for clients to view and entice them to buy. I could understand if they were busy, there was a line, or people were coming in to buy a pastry and we were in the way but that was not the case. Since it was 10am I'm guessing we were between rushes. My intention was to select a pastry and take it to go home, but I didn't want to go back and deal with him. Everyone else that worked there seem to be enjoying their job and enjoying their clients whether they were waiting on them or someone else was. If I was reviewing him it would have been a 1. Hopefully he will find a job he enjoys. Wish I wood have taken pictures because everything was plated nicely. All that aside this is a great place and we will absolutely come EVERY time we are back in town.

Yelp
Such a cute little bakery in Hanover! I came here for a late breakfast on a Sunday and initially felt a little overwhelmed. There was a long line of people waiting for tables so I figured we'd have to wait a long time, but we were seated after about 15 minutes. I had their bottomless flavored coffee, which was hazelnut, and I got an omelet. Their food menu is huge! While it was noon time most people were still eating breakfast and there was not a single thing on the menu that didn't seem good. Our server was wonderful and we never felt rushed despite the long line. The prices were a bit steep for breakfast, but overall we really liked our experience!

Rebecca B.

Yelp
As usual food and service is fantasti! I've been coming here for 44 years and it's always perfect!

Jack G.

Yelp
Decent diner. Above average tasting comfort food in a popular (sometimes boisterous) cozy setting. VERY popular for weekend breakfast (regardless of what Google Live states).

Penelope A.

Yelp
We had breakfast here and ordered a variety of dishes. We had the lil green, big green, a chicken and waffle and another big green. Over easy eggs, crueller french toast, has browns and a orange cranberry muffin along with a banana pecan muffin also a cup of coffee. Service was very quick and the waitress took our order right away and we did make a change on our order and she was able accommodate us. The restaurant was cozy, quaint and had the feel of a diner where one could enjoy the company of others and there was no rush. Loved our service toady and had an exceptional meal!

Natascha N.

Yelp
Consistent and friendly. Food is served quickly and wait line moves fast. They do a great job with their gluten free options including the very berry GF muffin

Aleksandar K.

Yelp
A Hanover classic Food: Maple Biscuit Sandwich 4/5: Got it with a side of mini hash brown- hash browns were solid but nothing too crazy. The maple biscuit sandwich was o really pretty good- tasted like a leaner, cleaner version of a McGriddle with biscuit buns. Iced Coffee 4/5: Standard iced coffee, generous sizes- really effective at getting you wired for the day- strong than some competing coffees on the street Ambience: Classic diner feel, great spot to visit

Phil W.

Yelp
It is right on the main street in town and blends in with all the other businesses along the vibrant downtown area. Inside at around 10AM on a Sunday, all the tables and counter seats were taken. We took our place in line and within 10 minutes or so we were at a table. It features a nice menu with a good variety of things to choose from. Dispite their somewhat high prices, the place was packed. The food was good and the staff hard working, efficient, and friendly. It's worth stopping into this little gem and trying it out. There is on street parking and although it is handicapped accessible, it could prove challenging trying to navigate a wheelchair inside. If you found this review helpful, please tap the thumbs up to let me know. Thanks!

Yelp
I was leaving New Hampshire on the way back to CT. Decided to stop in for a late breakfast. Lou's has a 1960s diner vibe. The place is kinda cramped, but I didn't mind that. After waiting about 20 minutes on Sunday morning, I was seated and ordered typical breakfast stuff: Bacon, scrambled eggs, home fries, bagel. The bacon was a bit greasy and needed to be blotted. But the rich, smoky flavor made this a winner. Scrambled eggs were nice and fluffy. Bagel was a bit bland and lacked chewiness. But the real winner was the home fries. The seasoning they use transformed the potatoes into something special. No ketchup required !

Brigid S.

Yelp
I've eaten here quite a few times and have enjoyed myself every time. I would like a free punch on my punch card. I love your bakery items. Your service is excellent. I hope to come next month.

Jamie C.

Yelp
I know this restaurant is very popular and my husband loved his breakfast, but DO NOT under any circumstances order the avocado toast with poached eggs on top. What I received was cold toast with two day old mashed, ice cold avocado with brown spots and two ice cold poached eggs on top. The eggs were cold due to the ice cold brown avocado and I could not bear the thought of cold poached eggs. My advice to the chef is use an avocado that is room temperature and is FRESH ( not two day old guacamole) never put poached eggs on good right out of the fridge. It was truly terrible and because the restaurant was busy, this leal had no forethought and was thrown together in a rush. It was a wasted breakfast- shame on you Lou's yuck!

Tony T.

Yelp
Consistent food, service with a smile and wonderfully tasty! Scrambled eggs medium check, bacon well done check, whole wheat (partial check as you only get 1 slice with country breakfast tho tasty ). We always opt to sit inside as the ambiance and nostalgia vibes are legendary. Have been coming since a student of the 70s...lest old traditions never fail!;)

Amy F.

Yelp
Excellent service, and the maple biscuit sandwich was excellent. The pies look amazing, we had to take ours to go! Too full from the yummy breakfast!

Joan L.

Yelp
Cute local diner with indoor and outdoor seating. We arrived at about 2:40, not long before closing. I could tell the staff was tired and ready to call it a day, but everyone was friendly. We both ordered the "pick 2" and upgraded the salad to the Cranberry Chicken Walnut. There was plenty of chicken on the half salad. All of the ingredients were fresh. The soup tasted homemade. Would like e to return for breakfast!

Amanda A.

Yelp
Super cute local diner with delicious looking dessert counter. This place is always packed according to our family and I understand why! The food is unexpectedly above average despite its humble appearance! I tried the quesadilla special and salad-YUM! Everyone was thrilled with their orders and the grand finale-the Hanover Fudge Cake- was worth the visit by itself! Even with four people sharing, I had plenty to take home. It was rich and fudgy and absolutely decadent. If I make it back to Dartmouth, I will definitely be coming back!

Stephanie B.

Yelp
I bought a custom 1/2 sheet chocolate two-layer cake for my mother's birthday celebration. Lou's outdid themselves. It was super!

Sarah H.

Yelp
wonderful food, kid friendly !! The bowls were SO good and original menu items. Quick service

Patricia M.

Yelp
Always a pleasure. Many great touches, like real whipped cream on my hot chocolate! Yummy. Worth the trip!

Isabella B.

Yelp
Great service! Amazing food and cozy atmosphere! My favorite restaurant in the upper valley.

Gretchen B.

Yelp
Lou's is very obviously THE place to go in Hanover, NH, for delicious breakfasts, pastries, and lunch. My dad and I came for lunch one day and had some delicious chicken soup...homemade, lots of chicken and noodles. Yum! We came for breakfast the next day. I got the corned beef hash breakfast which was delicious. My dad got eggs, toast, and hash browns which he enjoyed. The staff is on top of everything and very friendly. Their baked goods we learned are baked fresh in-house every day. They have a day and a night baker in fact. The donuts looked to-die-for. I should have gotten one but I was too full. There are huge lines always here, but the counter is first-come-first-served and you likely won't have much of a wait there.

Liz E.

Yelp
Good food but it was served cold and my hot tea was far from hot. Waitress forgot our orange juice and my request for jam for my toast. Finally arrived after we had to flag her down. Was received at the end of our meal.

Adam C.

Yelp
Lous has AMAZING breakfast options as well as great service from the staff. I absolutely recommend their food.

C F.

Yelp
Very good food in a college town close to Dartmouth campus . The eggplant sandwich is unusual and delicious , so are the homemade potato chips . Small bakery with good selection and very tasty . The space is very classically homey with bar seating without waiting , the dining area is small , outside seating is available .

Garen C.

Yelp
Friendly, comfortable vibe with decent lunch and breakfast options. The pies looked great but we resisted.

Josephine B.

Yelp
Great food with great timing, want something delicious, healthy and filling.. my personal favorite is the cowboy bowl! cowboy

Kristy P.

Yelp
Breakfast was fair. I was overcharged for items not listed on the menu. I don't think I'll return. Very disappointed.

Jeff D.

Yelp
My favorite breakfast place anywhere in the USA! Love the food, the ambiance and the amazing service

Pat M.

Yelp
it is good most of the time, due to its location it's very buys always. we had mostly good food there other than one time when things wher off. would w go back yes

Ma C.

Yelp
A true Hanover classic! Can't beat the locally sourced and/or homemade breads and accoutrements. Sad that they no longer have quiche (was the best ever) but ample breakfast alternatives including some adventurous options (chili crisp fried rice breakfast bowl or spicy avocado bfast sammie). Service is decent and it's a sure thing for anyone traveling to campus.

Stephen B.

Yelp
Quintessential Dartmouth College breakfast joint. Nothing fancy, but who wants fancy for breakfast? Terrific diner-style menu, friendly and attentive service...what's not to like? PS -- have the Big Green ... when in Rome...

Corinne R.

Yelp
Always love eating here with grandpapa and grandmama although honestly could prob make a better omelette at home. Pumpkin chocolate chip muffin was a lil dry ‍

Mia A.

Yelp
My daughter and I go here allllllllllllll the time! It's a place where mommy can get her vegan on and coffee, and where my child can get whatever she wants under the breakfast sun! We only go here for breakfast, and we like to beat the unbearable line by showing up at about 730am during weekends, but anytime is good during weekdays. The outdoor seating is great too this summer, and I hope they keep it open during the Fall season too! It'll be beautiful to eat some noms in the nice brisk air looking at the colored trees

Michelle R.

Yelp
A classic and adorable diner! We ate here twice during our stay in Hanover and both times had great service and great breakfast. There's a good amount of what I like to think of as "interesting" options for vegetarians, like the overnight oats, acai bowl, and vegan pesto tofu scramble; as well as the traditional options like waffles and pancakes. Hanover doesn't have a ton of options right in the downtown but this is an absolute must if you're visiting.

Ellsie S.

Yelp
Super busy spot - great service! Nice selection of dishes but so much sugar! We are not fans of sugar. We had the Cowboy bowl! It's hearty & filling. Highly rEcommend

John S.

Yelp
My food was super dooper yummy yummy but my main highlight was the host Liam Glenney. He deserves a large raise and employee of the month every month of the year always. He is the best thing in all of New Hampshire.

Ned H.

Yelp
Absolutely the only place to go in Hanover for breakfast or lunch. The menu is both modern and traditional - something for every taste. And there is always a buzz in the room.

Sophie W.

Yelp
Delicious start to the mid-morning and we got the best things on the menu I wish they would just own it and offer either maple syrup or non-maple table syrup both free of charge

Angela R.

Yelp
Our absolute favorite place to eat in Hanover! Great food, good atmosphere, and the best service ever. You won't leave hungry or unhappy...I promise!

Susan G.

Yelp
Lou's is the best in the Upper Valley! Quintessential diner atmosphere but the food is WAY better than you'd expect from a diner. The staff is unbelievably kind and awesome. All around great experience, every time.

Beata R.

Yelp
Quality of food is absolutely a five. The high prices are out of alignment But if you have deep pockets or want to splurge - do it. I recommend the cowboy bowl w an extra (3) eggs.

Lori N.

Yelp
Good food, great diner feel, and they have espresso! We had breakfast two mornings (came back as it was good.) Maple sausage biscuits yes!

Hong L.

Yelp
We randomly came upon this restaurant because we were looking for apple pie. We called in to reserve and apple pie (which was amazing and huge for $25). We then decided to dine in . There is a kids menu . We got the big green (must get cruller French toast to share) , burger (perfectly juicy) and grilled cheese for the kiddo . Loved all the food and the feel of the restaurant was great.

Lauren L.

Yelp
A place that serves breakfast AND lunch all day long that's not a chain?? Sign me up! We were seated outside pretty quickly and to say there were so many delicious options on the menu to choose from was an understatement! My little one had the kids chunky monkey pancakes and was in heaven!! My hubby and I shared the BBQ chicken sandwich special with fries and the very berry pancakes. The waitress urged us that 2 pancakes were enough and my husband literally laughed in her face... well, guess what?! She was right! Two pancakes were MORE than enough and we ended up taking one to go because we couldn't finish them!! They even give you a tiny cute bottle of real maple syrup along with your meal. Such a nice touch! I got a slice of their mile high apple pie to go because we were stuffed and it was pretty amazing! We will definitely be back to try some other menu items the next time we're in town!

Rose M.

Yelp
Such a quaint spot in downtown Hanover. Indoor and outdoor seating. Portions are large. It was so busy but the staff was efficient. I had the cowboy bowl. The flavors were amazing. No need to add salt or pepper. It had the right amount of heat. The crueller French toast was delicious too!!

Liet K.

Yelp
The food is really not that great, it is often soggy and over salted. The staff are mainly school kids who stand around chatting while you wait 15 mins to be served. This restaurant is given a lot of attention purely because there is not much competition in Hanover. The cakes and patisserie items here are fantastic though.

Jae P.

Yelp
Overall, pretty mediocre diner food that's overpriced. Decent for a meal when visiting Dartmouth campus. Baked goods were also average, I'd recommend driving out to the better diners in West Lebanon or heading to KAF or My Brigadeiros down the street for baked items.

Ben L.

Yelp
My favorite place ever. Loved Lou's as a kid, as a college student, and now as an adult!

Anita G.

Yelp
The whole menu is just amazing, all day! Such a treat, and something for everyone! Their desserts are great prices and worth the calories.
