Lovćen National Park feels like the moment Montenegro changes character. After the dramatic coastal scenery of Kotor Bay, the landscape suddenly opens into quiet mountain plateaus, rolling green hills and fresh alpine air.
The park is not about grand tourist attractions; it is about space, silence and perspective. Wide meadows stretch between forested ridges, and simple mountain roads wind through scenery that feels calm and untouched. Walking here has a slow rhythm — the kind that encourages you to pause often and simply look around.
The highlight is the climb to the Njegoš Mausoleum, perched high on Mount Lovćen. The journey itself is part of the experience: a winding road followed by a long staircase that leads to one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in Montenegro. From the top, you can see the Bay of Kotor, distant mountains and vast stretches of countryside all at once. It feels like standing above the country.
Lovćen offers a beautiful contrast to the coast. Where Kotor is historic and Porto Montenegro is polished, Lovćen is peaceful and natural. It is the place to breathe, hike, picnic and enjoy Montenegro at its most serene.
