This heartland bakery in Alexandra Village/Bukit Merah is a favourite of mine when it comes to old-school sponge cakes with some cream therein or thereon. And I was here today (29 January 2026) for just such a fix, ordering and taking away, a slice of Melon Seed Cake and a slice of Rainbow Cake; both for $1.70 each. As always, in my opinion, the cake slices were very good - the sponge cake portion was very soft and fluffy, and the creamy portion added in the right amount. I am also partial to the Melon Seed Cake here because I do not find it elsewhere in Singapore and the melon seeds topping the cakes here are always pleasantly crunchy. Service here is friendly and courteous. The shopping experience here could be better if the aisle in the store was wider and the appropriate tongs were given to remove the cakes from the display cabinets.

Buying anything here is eating a piece of heritage. Recipe was passed down from Mr Ho since 1979. It’s hard to find handmade buns priced at $1 and cake at $1.80. I have tried all their cakes before and especially fond of their butter and peanut cake. Nostalgic, simple and affordable.

I would get their mooncake whenever i am in town. Simply the best! Not too sweet and tastes delicious. They use an old school white paper box, which is more sustainable than the fancy ones I see at the malls. I also like to buy the soft cakes for the office. They are just behind Alexandra Food Centre. Give them a try when you are visiting Ikea.

Was given by a friend, an almond cake. I can’t explain it, but the cake sponge is light and very fragrance. Very different from commercial bakery cake. It is Very nice cake.

Go back in time in this quaint bakery with its vintage decor, complete with old-style sliding glass door cupboards housing the daily delicious bakes with different toppings. This shop is manned by an elderly couple; it's self-service and cash payment only. Each slice of soft sponge cake is HEAPED with toppings; my heart cried in dismay when the abundant choc rice fell off my slice as I was placing it on my tray. Cakes are soft and light, with the spread of cream and toppings complementing very well. Do support if in the vicinity!

One of the few nostalgic neighbourhood bakeries left in Singapore, Love Confectionary still operates as a full-fledged bakery selling well loved local bread, cakes, mini pastries and snacks for over 50 years! I come here often to stock up on the old school cakes and snacks that I used to have as a kid growing up in the 90s. If you are making a trip here, do note that they usually open around 1130am and close around 5pm, and it’s Cash Only. There’s a POSB ATM nearby just next to a childcare centre.

I love their cakes! The shop is self service so don’t be shy to get the bread and cake from the display cases by yourself. I bought 2 whole cakes (1 with cream - $8, 1 w/o cream - $6). The cream is just right for me, buttery smoothness and not too sweet. The butter cake is the light and airy kind. My family has already ate 1 whole cake in half a day! When I went today (1+ pm on Sunday), the case was mostly empty - no bread in sight. If you’re heading to the hawker for food, it might be a good idea to buy their cakes first before gg for your meals!
