Our walking tour was led by Bruce Burris and he had a wealth of Charleston history to share because of his long family history in Charleston. We loved learning about the classic style architecture of the homes and the stories of the families that lived there. We saw gardens and met a few of the local people who were friends of Bruce which made the tour more personal. Would highly recommend this tour especially if Bruce is your guide.

Charleston's Alleys and Hidden Passages: Charleston is such a charming city and the best way to see as much as you can is taking a tour. Captain Jim is a wonderful guide telling stories and history and showing us hidden gems of Charleston on an easy walking tour. He will tell you why it's called a Lowcountry tour and facts about Charleston only locals know. Do the tour - you will be glad you did.

Tour guide Bruce gave us a fabulous two-hour excursion of the neighborhood he grew up in. The personal experiences he shared only deepened our understanding of what we were seeing. Our stops included the oldest continuously operating liquor store in the country, the Poinsett Tavern (circa 1732), Saint Michael's Church, Catfish Row, and one of Loutrel Briggs' gardens. (Bruce knew the owner of the garden and had a key to get us in.) We were kind of sad when the tour ended, for it meant the end of our time with this wonderful guide.

My family and I were recently visiting from Washington state and We were led by Dennis Mardis on a tour of Charleston. It was a great tour and very informative. I appreciated how Dennis shared lots of nuanced information about things he had researched and dug up on his own, but was quick to acknowledge if he didn’t know something and that he would personally research it. The tour itself was on a beautiful day and made it easy to navigate the different streets and get good visuals of the architecture. There were many opportunities for us to ask questions and reflect on what we were learning. We made notes on things that we wanted to come back to and spend more time. We took the tour about mid trip on our visit to Charleston. I can see where it would be a very good opportunity to launch a visit to Charleston. Overall, I would highly recommend this tour, it was a great value and a fun way to explore a history-rich city.

Excellent walking tour through historic Charleston. We enjoyed it so much that we went on two! Dennis Mardis and Mark Jones are both wonderful guides. The first tour on Charleston History with Dennis and the second tour on Alleys and Hidden Passages with Mark were interesting, well researched, and great fun. Highly recommended way to see downtown Charleston with expert, knowledgeable, and humorous guides.

This is a great tour and very informative. I had the pleasure of touring twice while in town, once with Duggar and again with Mark. Both guides shared interesting information on the formation and history of the city while stopping at about 15-20 different locations throughout downtown Charleston. Beautiful city and both guides covered the good, the bad and the ugly, which I greatly appreciated. Nothing was glossed over to paint a prettier picture of SC’s past. There were enough stops along the way that it was a good mix of walking and resting, but make sure to wear comfy shoes and wear your sunscreen!!

Capt. Jim was very knowledgeable and he had plenty of anecdotal stories to keep the tour interesting. I would recommend his services to anyone visiting Charleston

The Charleston's Alleys and Hidden Passages tour led by Capt Jim was excellent. We got to see lots of Charleston highlights as well as beautiful &/or interesting alleys and off the beaten path spots. Capt Jim is very knowledgeable and was adept at relaying points of interests along with their history. Well done! Highly recommend this tour!
