Tour guide Bruce gave us a fabulous two-hour excursion of the neighborhood he grew up in. The personal experiences he shared only deepened our understanding of what we were seeing. Our stops included the oldest continuously operating liquor store in the country, the Poinsett Tavern (circa 1732), Saint Michael's Church, Catfish Row, and one of Loutrel Briggs' gardens. (Bruce knew the owner of the garden and had a key to get us in.) We were kind of sad when the tour ended, for it meant the end of our time with this wonderful guide.
