We returned to Lower Sabie Rest Camp after a year, hoping for the improvements management had promised. Sadly, nothing has changed. While the location remains fantastic, the camp itself is old, poorly maintained, and lacking hospitality.||Check-in & Accommodation|Reception has improved slightly—the agent was friendly, and they helped us rebook without hesitation when we decided to leave early. However, feedback was not welcomed, and staff showed little interest in guest experiences.||We booked a bungalow with a stunning Sabie River view, but the unit was outdated and the kitchenette is in desperate need of renovation. The furniture is old but in good shape. The kitchenette was falling apart—cabinet doors broken, a microwave awkwardly placed on a chair. Inside, the minimalist design felt more like a cell—just two beds and a suitcase board, with no decorations or desk. The bathroom was old but functional, with decent water pressure.||Dining – A Huge Disappointment|The Mugg & Bean restaurant was a disaster. The menu is too fancy and impractical for a safari camp, lacking simple options like salads or pasta. After two nights, we struggled to find anything appealing. Worse, our food arrived cold three times in a row, and staff didn’t care. The overall service was grumpy and unwelcoming.||Facilities & Connectivity|No mobile reception or WiFi in the camp. The restaurant’s WiFi is overloaded and unusable.|Grocery part of the shop is messy, with less variety than other camps and unfriendly staff|Pool was well-maintained, a rare highlight.||Final Verdict|Lower Sabie relies on its historic name and location, but with poor service, outdated facilities, and an awful restaurant, we cannot recommend staying here. Until major changes happen, we will avoid this camp in the future.
