Stayed in Tent T0 for 2 nights , room was clean , bathroom good and rear deck and grill was awesome. Location of this place is priceless sitting on the Sabie River and sightings of Hippo and crocks . The store and restaurant are good options for food and groceries . Enjoyed my stay , I was the first one to line up at the gate before 5.30 am and went for morning self drive as soon as gate opened. Love to come back one day .

We stayed 3 nights in a Rondavel (#79) with an outdoor kitchen and dining area, view of the river and unfortunately the most disgusting smell of bats that are living in the roof thatch. Each morning the patio was covered in bat poop and what could only be bat pee on the outdoor kitchen bench. It is a great motivation to spend as little time as possible in your room and get out amongst the animals. Unfortunately the camp is run down. The swimming pool was milky, and gardens unloved. Might and Bean restaurant the food was good although a little dearer than we were used to. It had a fantastic view over the river. Service very slow, even when not busy. The sunset dam 500m from the gate is a real bonus and on 1 of the evenings hippos really put on a great display. Elephant herds in this area were fantastic. We had some good non-predator sightings.

We camped for a few days. Staff friendly, however, the ablutions need upgrade. Showers have very limited space to place clothes, etc. Basin areas were not cleaned while we were there. The toilets had ample toilet paper.

We travel all over South Africa with our campervan just the two of us. We have visited Kruger Park for over 40 years. April 2025 was our first for this year. Lower Sabie was one of our stops. We love the layout of the camping spots and it seems to be more organised than some of the others. Traveling in a campervan which is higher than the normal caravan we found that the beautiful trees on the sites needed a bit of trimming from underneath the trees so a camper could fit in easily enough without scraping the sides and roof. Wonderful shade and stunning trees otherwise. Swimming pool was lovely and clean. Pota poti spot was ideal with a nice hosepipe to spray and clean after emptying it. Something that Satara could improve on.

We were helped very quickly by very pleasant staff. What was totally mind blowing is the honesty of the staff & the visitors there as I forgot our Binoculars on our table. We called and a very kind Sheila confirmed they have it and arranged its return to me in Pretoria! UNBELIEVABLE

Welcome rest stop when you are in the Kruger. Beautiful surroundings. Bathrooms fairly clean. Mugg and Bean's food was great and lovely location - just the birds that were bothersome and pooping on the table.

Did not stay here. We had lunch at mug & bean on the terrace which has a great view. Just be careful where you sit, there are a lot of blue feathered birds flying around.

We returned to Lower Sabie Rest Camp after a year, hoping for the improvements management had promised. Sadly, nothing has changed. While the location remains fantastic, the camp itself is old, poorly maintained, and lacking hospitality.||Check-in & Accommodation|Reception has improved slightly—the agent was friendly, and they helped us rebook without hesitation when we decided to leave early. However, feedback was not welcomed, and staff showed little interest in guest experiences.||We booked a bungalow with a stunning Sabie River view, but the unit was outdated and the kitchenette is in desperate need of renovation. The furniture is old but in good shape. The kitchenette was falling apart—cabinet doors broken, a microwave awkwardly placed on a chair. Inside, the minimalist design felt more like a cell—just two beds and a suitcase board, with no decorations or desk. The bathroom was old but functional, with decent water pressure.||Dining – A Huge Disappointment|The Mugg & Bean restaurant was a disaster. The menu is too fancy and impractical for a safari camp, lacking simple options like salads or pasta. After two nights, we struggled to find anything appealing. Worse, our food arrived cold three times in a row, and staff didn’t care. The overall service was grumpy and unwelcoming.||Facilities & Connectivity|No mobile reception or WiFi in the camp. The restaurant’s WiFi is overloaded and unusable.|Grocery part of the shop is messy, with less variety than other camps and unfriendly staff|Pool was well-maintained, a rare highlight.||Final Verdict|Lower Sabie relies on its historic name and location, but with poor service, outdated facilities, and an awful restaurant, we cannot recommend staying here. Until major changes happen, we will avoid this camp in the future.
