It's strange that this excursion only just led me to discover the Museum of Jewish Heritage, especially since this place has been around since, 1997? Lox is on the second floor of the museum; you can take the stairs or the elevator just to the left of the ticket desks. You need to go through security in order to get into the building which the cafe is in, but no museum ticket is needed if all you're doing is eating at the cafe.
This is without a doubt, one of the most minimalistic, yet most beautiful, most charming spaces I've visited in New York. I went early in the evening on a weekday, so I'm not really sure how crowded this place normally gets- but it was completely empty when I visited.
This is definitely a great place for a date for several reasons. Firstly, the place, as I've said, is totally charming. Secondly, it's clean and quiet. Thirdly, you have an incredibly view of the harbor, and can step right outside to get a better look at the views.
They have free wifi here (technically), but it's kind of spotty, and doesn't work too well from the cafe. If the owners see this, it may be something you guys could look into? I will definitely be back, so might be worth investigating.
The food here is okay. I had the whitefish salad sandwich, which was not as good as some of the other WSSs I've had around Manhattan, such as those from Leo's or H&H. However, it's perfectly acceptable, presented incredibly well, seems to be made from quality ingredients- paired with the ambiance of this place, eating here was an overall pleasure.
Highly recommended.
