On the Grid : LA CREMERIE

"If raw cheeses are your thing (and why wouldn't you be), check out La Cremerie, located on Swatow Street. Hand-selected by Myriam, La Cremerie's friendly in-house cheese master, this cute shop imports a wide selection of high-quality, farmhouse cheese varieties from all over France. You can also pick up butter, cream, and bread in store, along with a few wines available to pair with your choices." - Isabel Foo

I went there to buy a Cheese platter for my friends and it was a really nice experience. There are several options to choose from and prices are reasonable. The lady attending me was helpful and polite and helped me choose what was the best option for me. Will visit again for sure.

From the moment I entered this store, I fell in love with the cheese here. The air smelled delicious - I know it sounded strange to say so but that’s simply true. I told the friendly lady what I am looking for and she cut some different types of cheese for me to sample and choose from. They are all wonderful. I wished to bring them all home. I bought some maroilles and aged comte in the end. I will definitely come back very soon.

Not the first time coming here. But today.... 2 cheeses out of 4 were completely overdue. I mean, I am quite used to that ( I'm french ), but to that extent ... should not be sold ! ( Sainte Maure de touraine and the Tomme ) Other adresses won't do that btw. Sadly, I will not take the time to go there anymore.

Hong Kong finally has a proper French cheese shop with the opening of La Cremerie on Statow Street in Wan Chai last year. They are located just across the street from sister business LQV Wine bar and La Boucher (Butcher shop) and are open from 11-3pm and 4.30-9pm on Monday to Fridays and 12-9pm on weekends. Arriving at La Cremerie you will notice a beautiful European like shop front. Enter into the small shop and you will encounter a strong and recognisable aroma, a great sign you are in the right sort of place if looking for nice cheeses. The shop is run by the Cheese Master, Myriam, who came to Hong Kong directly from France with the opening of La Cremerie. She is polite, friendly and happy to discuss and make recommendations for the many cheeses available at her shop. You can purchase cheeses by the weight or allow Myriam to suggest and prepare 350g, 500g or 1kg platters, providing you opportunity to try some of the best cheeses on offer at La Cremerie. French wines are also available. You can buy a bottle or two to take away with your cheese purchases. Alternatively, patrons can purchase cheese patters here and take them across the street to the LQV wine bar where you can enjoy wine & cheese pairing. We recently visited La Cremerie and very pleased with the 350g platter of 5 cheeses and a bottle of white picked out and recommend by Myriam. The cheeses were all very good, much nicer than the supermarket varieties we are all too familiar with in Hong Kong. In th end, I must say that after living in Hong Kong for many years it is such a treat having a access to many fresh and delicious French cheeses. We can't wait until our next visit to La Cremerie.

A cheese heaven that stocks all the stuff the supermarkets here don’t!! You can even buy cheese and get it served at one of the wine bars opposite. Perfect for a Friday night. Just slightly disappointed that as a French cheese shop they did not stock the beautiful mamirolle cheese that is only made in Quebec and France.

I can't find anywhere else in Hong Kong that could offer the same high quality cheese AND with such amazing price! Their quality is definitely better than the chain supermarkets (where usually the turnover is probably slower) even those they are cheaper. They also have some special cheeses in different times. As its under the same owner of the wine bar in the opposite of the street, you can order cheese and send to the bar so you can consume the cheese with wine immediately. The staff in the bar can give good advice on cheese and wine pairing.

I truly love this little shop. The service is fantastic - I never know what cheese I want, I ask for their recommendations and they ask about my general preferences, and they've never failed to spend the time helping me, and I've always had truly delicious and varied cheeses at the end of it. This is one of the few true joys of Hong Kong. On my last visit I bought 5 cheeses, 100g each, for a total of HKD $330. The price is certainly not bad either, and means that you can come back frequently rather than just once in a while. Highly recommend. (And I am a mean reviewer)

Best cheese shop I've been to in Hong Kong. A good selection of raclette cheeses and they can slice it too. It's obviously not cheap, but better value than city super etc
