The hotel served its purpose and was all we needed. The room was a perfect size, everything seemed clean, the cleaning ladies came in every few days and tidied everything up very nicely, and the entire hotel staff we interacted with were incredibly kind and helpful. It's just a short walk to a gorgeous park, several shops, tons of restaurants, and beautiful beaches. We enjoyed using the pool during our visit as well, and it was nice. I recommend!

There is one lady at the front who is the absolute best. Amazing location - bus stop on it and it’s easy to walk to many places. Castro’s is the absolute best breakfast. Gorgeous Hawaiian decor in the rooms and at the lobby. Fun hotel activities, such as the lei making class and managers wine and cheese reception. Only complaint is that the bathrooms need updating and there’s no hot tub. Pool also small.

The staff was amazing. The location was perfect: less than a 10 minute walk to everything you want to see. The price is the most economical for all that I just alluded to. There’s just one problem: they have bed bugs and all I got from management was an apology. No offer to make things right or offer me a refund of any kind. I did not want a refund, but I did want to hear more than I’m sorry. They probably have bed bugs because they only clean rooms every 3rd day!!! Yes, your room only gets cleaned twice a week and sometimes 3 times if it is truly every 3 days. That is a ridiculous thought. Trash builds up. You go to the beach, there’s sand everywhere, including your bed, but you won’t get fresh sheets for 3 days. Therefore, my best advice, before you book your hotel for Hawaii, call them and ask how often they clean your room? If it’s not every day, don’t stay there. And I’m sorry Luana staff, but I don’t recommend staying here, unless you want to be scratching yourself all night, and stay in a dirty room. Aloha.

We stayed here on our last night in O'ahu as we wanted something that was near both the beach and airport. It was a great location, really close to a bunch of delicious food trucks. The stay was lovely, we especially enjoyed the pool which was a nice temp and a beautiful setting. The manager's cheese and wine hour was a nice and unexpected touch.

Google
Honestly I'm only taking a star off because the mattress or one side of the bed was collapsed and it was very noticeable from the moment we entered. It was still comfy but I was sleeping below the level of the mattress for our stay 😂 Location is excellent, and the view out the window over the park to the ocean was excellent. Shower wasn't bad (not great but it does the job). Staff were lovely, courteous and friendly at all times. The beach towel system is a great idea too! We'll be back most likely. The one issue I really had was the internet speed was really slow but I kept forgetting to raise it with reception (not sure if they know or not).

Google
Far exceeded our expectations. Loved having a kitchen and balcony. The location surrounded by green space was ideal and provided a beautiful walk to the beach. Their happy hour was so much fun and allowed us to meet people from all over the world. Excellent friendly staff.

Google
The hotel location is very good, with some ocean view, near the beach, restaurants and stores.||The staff is friendly and ready to help. ||The bedroom is big, with a nice balcony. The cluttery available was clean and organized. ||I would recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Google
Had such a lovely stay. The staff are great and the location is pretty much perfect. Only thing I can think not great was the showers but honestly how this place is currently only on 4.2 stars is beyond me as was a fantastic stay for 5 of us across 3 rooms.

Yelp
My friend and I stayed at Luana during our stay at Waikiki in November 2023. I can't remember how I found Luana but I saw great reviews and it was in our price range. It is a very small welcoming hotel with the friendliest staff! The rooms were clean and large and came with a kitchenette which was helpful when we wanted to store leftovers or have a glass of wine in the room. We had a gorgeous view of the city and the location felt very central to walk around different areas and it was easy to catch a lyft as well. The hotel even hosted social events like a wine and cheese night which included performances by hotel staff and complimentary wine and cheese! Although we did hear from some other guests that apparently you only got these perks if booking direct with the hotel. Those guests had booked through an Airbnb not knowing that it was a hotel room in a small boutique hotel and they did not get any of the perks. The hotel also had a concierge stand staffed by the most lovely man!! I believe he was Australian but not sure and unfortunately don't remember his name as it was a year ago! He was lovely though and helped us with some of our bookings. He helped us book a wonderful luau and even helped us troubleshoot when the original luau we booked got cancelled. His concierge stand is the first thing you see when you walk into the hotel and it was always great seeing his lovely smile every time we walked in/out! Overall a wonderful stay and would definitely stay again!

Yelp
Well, this is a nice property and I hate to be the guest who leaves a bit negative comment. The hotel advertised an upsell room with partial ocean view and 2x queen beds, and I paid a higher price for it. But upon arrival, the front desk told me they actually do not have such a room type. Really? They basically misrepresented the property on Expedia. They offered me the following choice: either get a room with two queen size beds that looks directly at a gas station (!!), or keep the room with a partial ocean view, but sleep on a crib or sofa bed... well, I picked the one with a view, and the entire time there I got to sleep on a sofa bed. It was not the worst sofa bed, but it was not what I paid for. Not what I expected and wanted... I'm not a mean person, I am mature and I know a review can affect the business, and I wouldn't have written this here if the hotel had at least made some sort of small / fair concession, they could have perhaps reduced the price a bit since they gave me basically a cheaper room... but they didn't make attempts to remedy or mitigate. The management didn't even reach out to me directly- it was only the lady from the front desk who dealt with me. Guess they didn't really want me as a return customer! Needless to say, I plan to grant them their wish, and I will not be returning to this resort. There are so many hotels on Oahu. I hope your silence was worth it.

Yelp
Great location and price!!! The staff is super friendly, kind and helpful. Easy to navigate to nearby beaches and shopping. Plus valet makes parking a breeze. There's even a few fun things to do in the evenings like happy hour. Nice heated pool; especially if it's January. The rooms are a great size and nicely kept. Well-stocked with cooking tools. I'd definitely stay here again.

Yelp
I usually stay at National brand hotels but decided to try Luana as they were fairly inexpensive for a hotel in Honolulu. I called the hotel several times before I arrived just to let them know I was still coming. Each time I called, I reached someone friendly and helpful. Upon my arrival we were given shell leis and everything we needed to know was explained to us thoroughly - towel cards, dvd rentals, pool and exercise room use, room cleaning, etc. Check in went smoothly at around 10pm at night and the service was wonderful. The hotel looked nice inside and the rooms were decent. The floors did not have carpet, which I prefer. There was no central AC and the ac unit didn't cool the room as much as I would have liked. My room had a lanai which overlooked the city. My room came with a mini fridge, microwave, kitchen sink, stove top (no cooking dishes like pots and pans though), silverware, and other miscellaneous dishes. Parking is by valet only at about $40/night. Valet was friendly and quick each and every time. Hotel is in walking distance of two 7-11's, ABC stores, the Spam Jam, and lots of other places too. I would stay here again.

Yelp
Best hotel in Hawaii! I have been to several hotels on the island and this by far is the best one! Pulled into hotel and did valet, which was $40. I paid the $40 and went inside to check in. Inside you will immediately see a list of tour packages offered, Christmas decorations, lounge area and check in counters. I checked in and went to the room. The room was clean, smelled good and no issues at all. I dropped my bags off and went to dinner. Upon my return I checked out the balcony. The balcony is over looking the city and the ocean. You can't really see the ocean at night but in the day time you can see the ocean. The a/c and bed was amazing. Slept so great I almost didn't want to leave. I will recommend going earlier so you can enjoy the pool, beach and other amenities. They do offer free dvd rental. The rental is located in the lobby and in your brochure is a free ticket for it. As well as two beach towel check out cards. The kitchen has everything you will need except the food and seasoning. You won't need to bring any utensils. It even had stuff I never thought about bringing but should have. There is no stove or oven but a toaster oven for cooking. The fridge is a decent size as well.

Yelp
This was a multigenerational trip for our family. We stayed at Disney's Aulani for a few days, the Luana a few days, and then we flew over to The Big Island. We had three rooms booked at the Luana for about three nights. No one reported any problems. The only thing someone mentioned was that there were no pots and pans to cook with in a room with a stove. Oh, well. We ate out for every meal anyway. Lol The hotel looks great on approach and is in a great location. We happened to be there the weekend of Spam Jam so we walked over and enjoyed ourselves at this free festival. The rooms are basic but clean and safe. We were on the 15th floor with a great view of the main drag and the pool. It's a block over from Hilton's Hawaiian Village. There is an ABC store across the street, a 7-Eleven a block over, and all the shops (Hawaii Cookie Company, anyone?) on the main drag if you walk about two blocks over. There's a gas station right next door. I loved the toiletries. Like many hotels nowadays they have those bottles in a holder stuck to the wall (ugh!) but the products smelled great and made my skin feel like velvet. After being out all day in the sun, and the humidity, I looked forward to having a hot shower with their products. The staff at the front desk was kind but the real stars of the show are the valet team! We only had to wait a few minutes each time to get our cars in and out. With 9 people (both adults and kids) there was lots of bustle each time we arrived or left. The young men took it all in stride. They are patient and kind. We decided to drive out to Waimea and then lunch before heading over to our 11am bottom fishing adventure so we had a quick turnaround one day. The young men totally understood and helped us sort out parking for a few minutes so we could come back downstairs and make it to our reservation. They are awesome and deserve every tip we gave them. All in all I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Right off Fort DeRussy at the top of Waikiki. Great location. Really clean. And the accommodations are great. Small gym and pool with washing Room is clean and fairly modern. The staff is really friendly and efficient. Very helpful. We stayed here as anAirbnb. The company was great and easy to manage. One of the better airbnb we've used. This location is great with great amenities and easy access. It is really close to Hilton Hawaiian village and hale koa as well as all the other Waikiki stuff. Will add pics of room.

Yelp
Luana Waikiki Hotel is located in the heart of Waikiki. My friends and I stayed here for a ten-day trip to Hawaii for the wedding of one of our friends. The friendly staff got us checked into our hotel room in a few minutes. The room was spacious and clean and had all the amenities we needed during our stay. The location is close to the shopping area, a few blocks away, and the restaurants and bars are also within walking distance. During our stay, unless we drove somewhere on the island, my friends and I would walk to our dinner or check out the bar scene. The high-end fashion brand is also close by if shopping is your vice. A vast park faces the hotel, and the beach is next door. Also, during our stay, we utilized the valet since we rented a car, and it was cheap, considering that you have the privilege of getting your vehicle in and out as many times throughout the day as possible. I recommend booking this hotel if you are considering going to Waikiki. The hotels on the island come with a hefty price, but this hotel was one of the cheapest and cleanest hotels I found in the heart of Waikiki.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this hotel, especially when booking with Costco Travel (they provide leis and a free shuttle to and from the hotel). It's fairly affordable and their staff is friendly and efficient. When checking in and out, the hotel gives little gifts of shell necklaces and macadamia nut cookies. Our rooms both had plenty of space; the king bed came with a pullout bed couch and the double kitchenette came with two large beds and a stove+microwave. Both rooms came with a large TV, refrigerator, closet, confection oven, cooking utensils and silverware, desk, and a balcony (we were on the top floor, the 16th, and the view was spectacular). Rooms seemed pretty clean and comfortable. The pool was a nice size and heated, with plenty of lounging/sunbathing chairs. As a gym rat, I loved the fitness area, which had cardio machines, cable machines, and bands/equipment for TRX and CrossFit. Pool towels and gym towels were provided along with infused water. The hotel also comes with a bbq grill area, ice room, and a mezzanine for quiet work, conferences and events. Speaking of which, there were lei-making classes, wine+ cheese and hula hangouts, and other events offered weekly. They also offer free admission to two local museums, free beach chair and towel rentals, and free video (DVD) rentals. The lobby is always staffed and I also love that they have three different elevators, allowing for quick access to the floors. Location is pretty nice; it's right next to a grocery store, and is five minutes walking to both Fort Derussy park (decent swimming and snorkeling due to calm waves) and downtown Oahu (ample shopping and food). A few downsides: the bathroom, while immaculate and well-stocked with toiletries, has a weak shower head and ours leaked. Our AC also was fairly loud. We did notice live and dead cockroaches around the hotel (I had to kill a small one in our bathroom, meaning there were many more hiding somewhere). And valet is $40 per overnight stay (and $3 every half hour); I'd recommend parking your car at a nearby lot for much cheaper if you have one. Otherwise, no complaints. I'd definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Stayed here through AirBnB. Staff were always so welcoming and kind! We had access to a mini gym, pool, washer and dryer. Our host generously stocked our kitchenette. The patio was spacious and held an adorable baby pineapple plant. The bedroom seemed a bit outdated in design, but was clean. I would stay here again, for the sole purpose of sleeping and convenient amenities!

Yelp
If there are a way to give half stars, I'd probably give this place 3 and a 1/2 stars. Because it isn't quite a 4 star place, but it's more than a 3 star place. It's literally right next to one of the only gas stations in Waikīkī, so the traffic coming in and out definitely affects the ambience of the location. There are some amenities here like a swimming pool and wash room for your laundry, as well as a gym, but most places in Waikiki have that kind of stuff, so it's not necessarily special. Our room is nice, the lanai overlooks the gas station, so it could be better, but truthfully. We rented this place from air bnb, so it's not necessarily the room we might have gotten had we just gone through the hotel. The décor in the hotel is fairly nice; there's a seating arrangement in the lobby that's nice, as well as the second level mezzanine, and there you can see hula dancing with cheese and wine as well as lei making on special days. I will say that the staff here should get five stars. They have been excellent; charming, welcoming, and have shown much aloha. The location and proximity to Waikiki is awesome. You're not in the heart of it, but more towards the top, which is kind of nice. It's about a 30 minute walk to get to Kapʻiolani park, but if you didn't want to go there, Fort DeRussy park is literally right behind the hotel. It's about 2 blocks from the beach. And there you can enjoy all the beach amenities of all the hotels that line the beach.

Yelp
Unassuming gem in the area. Very clean establishment and attentive staff. there's activities on Monday morning (lei making) which I missed after the fact, and wine and cheese and crackers from 5-6 with live music. centrally located to the main drag of restaurants, bakeries and ABC stores.

Yelp
I would rate this place 3.5/5 stars We stayed here for a mini weekend staycation. It's a small hotel just right outside of Waikiki, within walking distance of the beach. We booked a King bed but was given a queen bed with sofa bed. It was a bummer but what can you do. Valet parking is $35 a night which is added to the cost of your stay. So even if we were given a kamaaina discount it still came out to nearly $200/night. So it's on the pricier side. Valet guy Aaron and Mike were awesome though and very friendly. The room came with a 2-burner stove, mini fridge, microwave, blender, and kitchen utensils, which is a plus since we don't have to go out an buy food. Bathroom comes with a tub so my little one made good use of it staying in as long as possible. One of light had a switch broken so for the first day we had to unscrew and screw the light to turn it "off an on", until we figured out we could us a napkin to grip the knob to turn it off and on. Also the door to that lanai doesn't lock. You hear the lock "engage" so you think it's locked but when you pull on it, it opens and you see the lock is in the up position. I wanted to change rooms but my hubby said we were so high up that he didn't think it would be a big issue. Also I'm afraid of heights so it's not like I spent time out on the lanai anyway. AC was nice and cold. Pool, gym, laundry, vending, and ice machine on the first floor. It was ok. Hubby liked here, for me it was ok.

Yelp
Highly recommend! We stayed here for 8 nights and have no complaints. The housekeeping was efficient and delivered our needs to us with speedy service. We did utilize the pull out sofa bed and honestly was quite comfortable. The valet was prompt and super friendly! The hotel is beautiful and smells like fresh flowers. They allows us to exchange cards for towels each day and getting your card back when the towel is returned and super quick with this service! Our family truly enjoyed our stay. Aloha!

Yelp
The rooms with either have a full kitchen or kitchenette. Each room is slightly different because these rooms are actually privately owned but managed by a hotel operator. So it runs like a hotel. Valet is $35/days. If you have visitors that want to visit they charge $6/hour for valet. There are coin washer and dryers on the 1st floor. $1.50 to use the washer and dryer each. Plenty of machines. All of them were working. Our room had a PS3. You can rent the games and DVD's in the lobby free of charge. We also got a $10 credit/day to use at the Fish Hook Cafe that is located in the hotel. They are only opened for breakfast. Hours are 7am-2pm. There's a line that forms around 9am. This hotel is close to all of the stores and restaurants on Kalakaua. So if you don't feel like cooking you can walk to the restaurants. The beach was literary across the park. Would stay here again.

Yelp
Luana Waikiki Hotel is located in the heart of Waikiki. The location have an easy access to all the best sites and the distance for every fun location is short. In this gorgeous and fancy hotel you'll have free access to free DVD rentals, nice gym and pool for the little ones to splash around. Next the staffs are beyond friendly and if you did a deal like my mama duck did at the airport you will have access to free ride to the hotel and back to the airport. As soon as you arrive with the deal they put flowers around your neck and arriving at the hotel you will receive a nice shell necklace. Yes aloha state of mind! Also on certain days there's wine tasting offering beer and wine total free of cost! But please tip the amazing staffs serving the beverages.

Yelp
Stayed at Luana for the last 3 days of our trip and enjoyed our time there. The amenities are fair and inviting. The front desk staff is helpful and kind- thank you Joan for helping us throughout our stay. I am very pleased with my transaction and look forward to staying at the Luana Waikiki in the near future. Thanks!

Yelp
My visit to Luana Waikiki was 21 days for company training. My employer provided my coworker and I a list of hotels in Waikiki to choose from which they had contract agreements for employee lodgings. We were fortunate to book the standard rooms at $180/night. The hotel is set in a Polynesian theme décor, I liked the makau (Hawaiian fish hook) fountain at the entrance, and in the lobby is decorated with replica ancient canoes and artwork. Upon checking in the staff immediately upgraded us to suites with the kitchenettes! Which were unavailable when we booked our reservation and were priced above $200. So were definitely pleased by this change. The room was nice and neat, I liked the floors are tiled as carpet traps a lot of dirt and pest. The beds were simple with clean white sheets and covers with no comforters. The furniture is not new, looks dated from the 1980s, but comfortable. The kitchenette was fully equipped to cook simple meals, as I able to pack a lunch to take with me to my training class. If you need a rice cooker or extra pots or pans the hotel is very accommodating. The room came equipped with 50-inch flat tv, basic cable service, and free wifi service. Available for use was game console or dvd player. I had a dvd player and checked out disc movies for free from the machine in the lobby. Housekeeping was excellent, and friendly staff throughout. The valet service made my stay a relaxing one. no worry about parking or retrieving my rental car. The hotel had wine & cheese nights on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Then Tuesday and Thursday lei-making classes. The laundromat, exercise room, and pool are on the 1st upper floor of the hotel. The laundromat has everything you need to do weekly wash in 45 minutes. Every morning I left for work, there was daily newspaper stacked on the table by the elevator on every floor, and infused lemon or orange chilled water. I felt was in the more expensive hotels. The Launa hotel is centrally located in Waikiki, I appreciate the fact the hotel is located at Kuhio and Kalakaua avenue meet. It made getting in and out of Waikiki hassle free. Getting to the airport every morning took us 20 minutes to the airport. Pros: The compact air conditioner unit kept the room cool, but it was loud no matter what setting I adjusted it to, made sleeping at night impossible without shutting it off. The mini refrigerator had broken shelves. Overall I would recommend Luana Waikiki hotel for business travelers and families looking for great place to stay in Waikiki without busting the budget. I took off one star for the following: The Fish hook restaurant has been closed down since February 2023, I heard good reviews about it. I was disappointed it hadn't reopened. Also the room needs to be upgraded with lamps that have USB ports, and the alarm clock should have blue tooth capability to stream spotify music.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place gjven all of the reviews I'd read, but alas my experience did not love up to the others. The restaurant was closed, the hallways and room were really hot, and the toilets were far too low to be of normal height. The straw that broke the camel's back was the fact that the bed was really quite hard... I mean like really hard. After a long day of traveling, I was looking forward to a comfortable night's sleep. I ended up checking out same day and upgraded myself to another property. And while the resort fees were waived, I was charged for one night even though I'd moved to a trusted hotel brand. If you're not picky about where you stay, then this hotel is for you. I couldn't do it, especially on my birthday. Good luck!

Yelp
Pre-COVID review: We booked our stay here in 2019 via Costco Travel. The price was good and the location fit where we wanted to be. The room also had a kitchenette, which we are now accustomed to having wherever we travel. It was perfect for when we brought food back to the room to enjoy. It worked out too as part of the Costco Travel package included a food and beverage credit for the café downstairs, so we'd order and take the food up to enjoy in the room and use the kitchenette if we want to heat up any leftovers. The major pro from this place that we love is that there are free daily bicycle rentals here. Like I said, the location was ideal to the spots we wanted to go to, so we didn't rent a car, saving us from paying the daily parking fee of $35. If we needed to go further out, we used their bikes to get around. It comes with its own lock so you can take it out, go where you must, and lock it on the bike racks or whatever's around. It was also where I found out that not all bikes have the brakes where the handlebars are. lol! They do have a limited number of bicycles, so if you don't go early enough, it may be all rented out for the day. Other positives include: * a DVD rental kiosk downstairs for complimentary movies * a manager's reception with wine, snacks, and Hawaiian music * decent sized fitness center with complimentary fruit infused water * complimentary daily newspaper I'm sure the $25 daily resort fee contributes to these freebies, but it seems to be much better offerings than what's provided in Vegas for the resort fee. Oh yea, we were staying at Luana around the same time as the Annual King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade, so the parade route actually passes in front of the Luana, so you get a nice view right from the hotel. It's bad if you were trying to drive out from the hotel as they block off the street for quite a while during the day.

Yelp
Worst hotel I've ever stayed at in my life. It's definitely my fault for not doing my research. On the first day I arrived after 3pm, they said "your room isn't ready." Ok? So how long will it take? They said they were calling the housekeeping team to see the status and wouldn't know until they received a call back. Uhhhh if my room isn't ready the next words should be "let me see if we have another room that is ready for you." I was told to leave my bags with the concierge and to come back when it was ready, but the front desk staff changed her mind and said "I'll just give you another room," as if she was doing us a favor. They refreshed the screen and the original room was ready. This hotel is so outdated and the moment you walk in the building, it smells OLD. The pillows smelled like SWEAT and were so uncomfortable, it was like lying on inflated plastic bags that couldn't hold the shape of your head at all. They give you the thinnest comforter and the fabric is the itchy kind. The room that we booked had the mini kitchenette and a bathroom so small you have to close the door to be able to fit inside. The AC is also not central and turned off on us multiple times. There was a constant drumming/thunderstorm sound going all day/all night. I called the front desk to see if maybe they were playing music on the rooftop or something? They claimed they didn't know what the noise was so I dealt with it the 4 nights I was there. Even on the first night I seriously considered just checking out early and booking elsewhere but unfortunately everywhere else was all booked up. And now they DOUBLE charged two different cards so now I'm out almost a grand, in which they said "there's nothing we can do, you have to wait 3-7 business days for the money to return to your account because one of the charges say void." I also questioned why they charged a different card and she said "they confirm the last 4 digits of the card before they run it," but they did not do that because when I was checking out, they said "the card system is down right now so you'll receive a receipt in your email." So no verification of any card was made due to the non-working system, they didn't even charge the card I initially gave them ON MY FIRST DAY THERE. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. I wasn't even going to post a review until I realized that they double charged me, this is insane and has NEVER happened to me at any other hotel in my life.

Yelp
Luana is a little bit of a hidden gem for me - though not so hidden, it's one of the first properties you'll see as you enter Waikiki! But It's close enough to the action on Kalakaua, that you can walk over if you want to be in the frenzy of Waikiki, and it's further enough on the fringe that you can easily be on and off the strip and head out to other parts of O'ahu with ease. It's very close to the beach - in walking proximity, or you can drive over the public lagoon at Hilton Hawaiian Village and park in the paid lot next door. Luana is a great option for families. They have rooms with kitchenettes perfect for making meals to save a little money complete with a stove, fridge, microwave, toaster oven and coffee maker. One thing missing, which I find common in other Hawaii properties is a rice cooker. But nbd, you can easily make rice in the pots provided. The kitchen/ette is stocked well and has all the necessary kitchen utensils and even pyrex containers. The room decor is a bit outdated and the bathroom and kitchen/ette seem to be a little more updated. Would love to see a refresh, but it was fine and served it's purpose. Fish Hook Cafe is downstairs and a great option for easy breakfast or lunch. It can get busy down there but if you strategize your timing correctly, you can be in and out. They have options from continental breakfast to rice plates and poke bowls. I didn't realize we received $10 daily vouchers for the length of our stay so that was a nice bonus. The pool is a little small, but sufficient. And there are a couple covered areas with tables to set up shop. The deck is nice with clean, cushioned pool chairs. There are plenty of pool towels and ice water next to the pool. Also on the other side of the pool beyond the gate is a small outdoor dining area with a couple bbq grills. The deck (and the property) overlook the park next door with a pleasant and relaxing view. There is also a small gym, which we didn't utilize, but looked to be in great condition. Valet is $35/daily. Every valet person we encountered was friendly and pleasant. There is also a $27 +tax/daily resort fee which among other things also covers the Red Box DVD rental downstairs in the lobby and the Playstation in your room. We didn't really utilize either, but it's there for your usage as needed. Prior to arrival I had some issues with my reservation and both Janice and Yvonne were very helpful. Apparently I was also given misinformation regarding the daily charge for a rollaway bed, but Yvonne was kind to honor what I was told. We had an issue with the TV, but engineering was quick to come our room and found that the remote control needed a little reprogramming and it was resolved. Our mini fridge also conked out on us a couple days before we checked out causing us to toss out pints of ice cream, pies, and some food items we were going to bring home with us. It was a bit disappointing since those items just went to waste. We called down and again engineering was quick to assess the situation and told us the fridge needed replacing and they came back with a replacement fridge for the remainder of the stay. Martha, at the front desk, gave us a small credit to compensate us for the food items that we had to throw out. The gesture was appreciated. Jessica also assisted us when we came by the front desk and always pleasant. We didn't really encounter anyone at the Luana who wasn't friendly or helpful, even in the hallways they would always greet us with a smile. As I've read in previous reviews, I don't think the Luana is an all hotel property as some units may be part of a timeshare. This probably explains why upon check in around 10PM we were greeted by a security guard at the front desk with our keys. Made no difference in our check in though plus he was super friendly. Just never experienced a front desk and housekeeping that leaves around 9PM nightly. Make sure to get any housekeeping requests in before they depart for the night. I wouldn't hesitate to book here again. It's definitely a great option in Waikiki.

Yelp
What a find! Luana Waikiki is on the quiet end of Waikiki, meaning no crowds or lines, at least during the weekdays. Walk to the beach in @5 minutes. Rooms are larger than I expected and although I booked a room with "partial city view," I also had a partial beach view as well! Every room has a lovely little balcony with table and a couple of chairs. What a great way to have morning coffee (provided in the room) and read the local paper (provided free by the elevators). My room was on the 14th floor, with dramatic morning views of the darker clouds coming in from the north side of the island that mostly dry up by the time they reach Waikiki. Clean, comfortable bed. Clean bathroom. What more do you really need? I appreciated having a safe since I travel with a passport. There's a nice pool area with smallish pool but it's really very pretty. Shaded seating is available as well. The hotel also has a gym, currently requires reservations to minimize transmission of you-know-what. The lobby staff are very pleasant and there are enough of them to check in larger groups AND wait on other people. I really appreciate that. I was also pleasantly surprised when they called me about a half hour after check in to ask if everything was OK. As it happened, there was a problem with the shower/tub diverter which was promptly repaired. The restaurants in the area are smaller than the ones in the busy part of Waikiki and I'm pretty sure independent of corporate ownership, too. There is ABC store across the street and on the longer way to the beach (as in, under 10 min). The gas station next door also has a decent grocery shop for a quick snack if you need one and the excellent Fish Hook Cafe is closed. Fish Hook serves breakfast and lunch and the hotel provides vouchers for it. I probably won't go to Oahu on my next trip to Hawaii --Maui and the Big Island beckon -- but I'd highly recommend this boutique hotel in the quieter, less chaotic part of Waikiki if you don't need to be in the middle of it all.

Yelp
Stayed at the Luana through Airbnb but I must say I was pleased with my stay. Other than a slightly uncomfortable bed I loved how stocked up the unit I stayed in was. The couch bed was more comfy than the main bed in my opinion. My room had a view of the pool which was convenient because we were able to avoid crowded pool times. The room is pretty big itself. The kitchenette was stocked with almost anything you'd need to cook a meal. Pots and utensil wise of course. There was also a laundry basket and wash room that was affordable. All washers and dryers were working. Although it did ruin some of my clothes probably because of the heat. Washers & dryers were 1.50$ each for a 30 minute wash and dry. There was a 1.50$ dispenser for soap and dryer sheets. Overall enjoyed my stay at the Luana. Would stay here again.

Yelp
*sigh* Let me first say that front desk and valet is top notch customer service. However, I cannot really speak well of the room. I wanted to like it. I've tried to see the best of it especially since we only stayed there for one night BUT I CAN'T. 1. Our room looked like it was previously the staff break-room with the counter space, small fridge, coffee maker, dishes, dish rack...but no microwave (only upon request for a fee, which they waived). 2. Obviously no one ran the tub faucet for awhile because it initially ran YELLOW water. 3. I couldn't dig my toes like Bruce Willis did in Die Hard because it was cold, linoleum floors. 4. I had the pleasure of listening to drunks fighting in the gas station parking lot beneath my window. So, if you're still reading this and want to stay at the Luana because they have amazing deals, please do the following: 1. Request for a higher floor with a kitchen (like the picture they advertise on Instagram). 2. Take the opportunity to join their guest activities. 3. Bring comfy house slippers to wear in the event your room has no carpet. 4. Bring ear plugs if you're stuck on the lower level and have a city view. Overall, they have fresh ice water with lemon and lime slices in the lobby for you. They have a small dining area in the lobby. Each day they have activities for their guests. If you don't want to eat in the hotel or buy food from the gas station, there's a lot of eats to choose from that is within walking distance. If you have a rental or you're a kamaaina driving, there is no self parking. Valet parking only for $35 per night. Customer service: Friendly, helpful and accommodating Ambiance: Lobby is inviting, rooms...depends Price: We had a great kamaaina deal Location: At the beginning of Kalākaua Recommend: At your discretion Note: I heard the fried chicken at the gas station next to Luana is delicious

Yelp
We stayed there 12 days in December and it was perfect! Made reservations directly thru hotel's website and not thru 3rd party booking. It was very simple ! Upon checking in, the front desk was very courteous and helpful. Everyone at the front desk was very accommodating thru out our stay. ( Big kudos to Martha who exemplifies customer service! Thank you Martha ! ) Our room was charming and immaculately cleaned. Nice partial ocean view with a balcony/ lanai. Housekeeping replenished needed supplies immediately upon requests! Bellhops and parking valet workers were excellent.Big kudos to Brad for being most courteous and helpful ! Will definitely stay here again !

Yelp
Clean, safe, and the staff was extremely friendly! Located right where you want to be in walking distance of good food and the Waikiki beachfront. James was great with recommendations for our first Time to the island.

Yelp
We live on the west side so we came out to Waikiki for a short vacation. The hotel is located in the beginning of Waikiki where kuhio and kalakaua splits. The valet and bellman was very attentive and quick to respond. Our room was ready so we were able to check in immediately. The hotel is not big so don't expect a luxurious view. Our view over looked the park. We can see the Hale Koa and Hilton towers. The rooms were clean and a bit outdated. We can hear the neighbors talking and at times making love. LoL There encountered a cleaning lady, Ashley or Aimee ,?!? She smelled like alcohol and looked like she was on drugs or something. She kept on talking to herself (swearing & mumbling) like she was mad. Maybe this hotel doesn't do drug tests on employees. I asked her if she was ok, but she ignored me and continued to wipe the same area over and over again. My kids were a bit frightened. Hope she is ok. Because the hotel is in Waikiki, expect a lot of traffic noise during midnight hours. Motorcycles and cars with loud exhausts. We even heard people fighting outside near the park. Check out was a breeze with no issues. Valet was able to get our car within 5 minutes.

Yelp
As a Maui resident, I was a frequent visitor to the Luana Waikiki during my trips to Oahu. The Luana is a very basic budget hotel, but the low prices and high quality of customer service made up for minor issues like broken hairdryers or clogged shower drains. However, on my most recent stay, it became clear that the previously high quality or customer service has gone severely downhill. I was charged a huge ($800) "damage deposit" AFTER I had finished my stay and checked out of the hotel. When I called the front desk to inquire about this charge, they initially denied that the charge had been made at all. Several phone calls later, the Luana staff eventually admitted that the charge had been made, but claimed that nothing could be done about it. In their words, my $800 will "probably be refunded by next Monday." I'm extremely disappointed that an establishment that I trusted with access to my finances would abuse that trust in this way. I'm even more disappointed at the complete lack of accountability or desire to rectify the situation. Don't waste your vacation at Luana Waikiki when there are so many better options for hotels that will show respect for your time and money. I won't make that mistake again.

Yelp
If the option to put no stars was available I'd put negative stars. The staff is trash the rooms are trash. It's located next to a sketchy park. My husband was robbed. On a separate occasion next day our room was robbed. We have missing clothes missing food, jewelry, drinks, shoes. The room was dirty and had an odd smell. DID I MENTION THE TRASH STAFF?! Don't waste your time, money or any of your vacation here. This hotel was literally hell in Hawaii.

Yelp
If you're trying to get your money stolen, stay here! To start, our room wasn't ready for check-in at the promised time and we kept being told "it's just not ready yet" without any further explanation or reassurance that they were working on it. It wasn't until I suggested to be moved to a different room (after waiting for over an hour) that someone finally decided to help. That being said, the real issue happened a couple of days after checking out. Upon reviewing my bank statement, I noticed a second charge from the hotel for the amount of $800 dollars, which was basically what I had already paid for the entire stay. I figured it was a mistake and gave them a call. To my surprise, they claimed to have no trace of said charge and brushed me off as if it was a "me" problem. Obviously, I called the bank and they confirmed the money was in fact taken out of my account by Luana. Once I made a second call to the hotel, they changed their story and told me it was a "damage deposit" and that maybe it would be refunded by the beginning of next week. There was no apology, no accountability, and clearly no desire to help. I understand mistakes happen, but this was no mistake. I believe the correct term here is theft. All in all, the location is excellent, the place is average, and the customer service is abhorrent. Save yourself the trouble and choose a different hotel. Your bank account will thank you.

Yelp
I enjoyed my stay here at Luana, the room was spacious and I had a great view! One morning I was blessed with a beautiful rainbow outside my patio it was glorious. I will stay here again on my next visit to Oahu!!

Yelp
Like many other reviewers, my husband and I booked through Costco. Overall, we had a wonderful experience. The view is beautiful - the staff is beyond helpful and extremely friendly and the rooms are very decent accommodations. The Red Hook cafe, attached to the front [open from 7am to 2pm] has very delicious food and a 10/10 staff.

Yelp
I The staff was great! I had a great experience dealing with Jessica even before we arrived. I booked our hotel through Hotels.com and they entered the incorrect name on our reservation. I called Luana prior to arriving and spoke with Jessica who was really nice on our phone conversations. She helped me quickly and was very apologetic about the issue (even though it was no way her fault). She also knew it was my husband's birthday so when we arrived at the hotel, we were given wine as a complimentary gift to him and was given a room on the 15th floor with a great view! So many pro's about this hotel. It was an great location: not in the smack center of Waikiki where it can get loud but still in walking distance of many popular spots (10-15 min. to Waikiki Beach). Room is amazing: beautiful balcony view, clean floors, refreshing AC, and spacey kitchenette. All the staff were really friendly. Great amenities: pool, gym, laundry room, free movies, beach towel rental, $30 comp at their in-house restaurant. Right next door to HUI (car rental company that you can rent for either hourly or daily) Thank you to everyone that works at the Luana!

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay at Luana! 5+ stars! We stayed in a room with a kitchenette. The room had everything we needed. (Utensils, cooking tools, knives, scissors, cups, mugs, plates, bowls, a pan, a pot, a blender, a toaster, an oven toaster, a microwave and a coffee maker.) The room size was bigger than I expected and it had a partial ocean view which was another plus. Beach is in 5 mins away. Staff was very nice too. Definitely with aloha spirit. I'd love to stay here again!

Yelp
I absolutely love this place and will come back to stay here when Im in Honolulu...it definitely gives you a upscale hotel vibe, the staff are so nice and friendly. The place is immaculate in cleanliness, the pool, the gym and bar area always had a staff member to sanitize everything for COVID precautions . I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
It was a pleasant 9 days. Staff are very friendly, very accommodating and makes your stay for enjoyable. We would love to come back and stay here. We have an amazing view of the park and the beach. Special thanks to Martha who is very helpful. Allen/Allan who is very sweet and Brad in the valet parking. We really appreciate you guys!

Yelp
(copying from tripadvisor for further reach) So we were "bamboozled" as my husband says by our original Airbnb and needed to find somewhere STAT. The cost was great, so was the check in, and the availability. The hotel is gorgeous and they have AMAZING gatherings M, W, and F where you can eat some cheese and drink some wine and listen to amazing music and watch some hula dances. My husband and I went and were astounded at how fun it was! I highly recommend this hotel as it's close to the beach and shops, the rooms are great, and the amenities even better. Aside from having some sand in some parts of the room, my sports bra (the only one I had packed) did fall victim to the dryer in the laundry area so beware of that. Other than that, it was great!

Yelp
We stayed at this hotel and the valet and the front desk people are very friendly. The rooms have are big and spacious. They give you a Hawaiian Lei as soon as you enter the room. They have complimentary flavored water and coffee in the lobby. The hotel is modern looking. The ac is ok but not the best.

Yelp
I was really nervous to stay here based on the mixed online reviews but it was a fantastic experience and we were very happy. I gathered by reading reviews that each room is different and updated (or not) to different extents. We used credit card points to book our 8 night stay here and that's why we chose this place. We have 5 people in our family and booked a 1 bedroom suite which had a full size, updated kitchen (vs a mini fridge in the regular hotel rooms) with all the supplies we needed to cook and eat (but no seasonings or salt and pepper). Appliances included full size fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher, blender, coffee maker. While the bathroom was very small, the bedroom was big enough to fit the king size bed plus 2 rollaway twin beds for our kids (which they let us use at no additional charge). Our third child slept on the full size couch bed in the living room. I wouldn't say the king or the couch bed was super comfortable but at the same time, it wasn't terrible. The rollaway beds were fine for the kids but for an adult it wouldn't have been comfortable. We were so excited that we got a corner room on the first floor (which is actually a couple stories above ground level) because it had a huge, private, wrap-around patio with 3 different sets of patio furniture. All the rooms on floors above us looked to have a teeny tiny patio that barely fit 2 chairs. Since the hotel is several blocks away from the beach I knew we wouldn't have an ocean view anyway, so this patio with its view of the city plus a good view of fireworks on Friday night was better than I hoped for. We were also right across from the laundry room/ice machine which was convenient as well as the public bbq patio area where I saw lots of people grilling dinner and eating it at the tables outside. The location was convenient for walking. We walked often to go to coffee shops, restaurants and the beach, all within 5-15 minutes away. If all you wanted to do was hang out in Waikiki, no car is needed, however, we did rent a car and drove all over the island. The hotel staff was kind and helpful. Housekeeping came every other day. The valet staff was great (there is no self serve parking; I forget what the daily valet fee was). You're also required to pay the daily amenity fee for the beach towels and beach chairs that are available for use. We ended up going to a thrift store to buy a cooler and boogie boards and brought our own snorkeling gear. They have a DVD kiosk similar to Redbox and you're able to rent one at a time to watch in your room on the playstation. We wished we brought a roku streaming stick with us because their tvs weren't set up with streaming apps. We didn't have time or energy to utilize the pool and there was no hot tub. One member of our party used the hotel gym and said it was nice. We attended the wine and cheese night a couple times. It was very crowded but we got a plate of cheese and crackers and pretzels (that was all that was offered) plus unlimited beer/wine from the bar. There was a singer and one hula dancer which was a nice touch. Sadly, the restaurant in the hotel was closed for renovations (February 2023). In summary, we were visiting Oahu on a budget and booked this hotel with credit card points. My main priority was having an updated, clean, spacious room with a full size kitchen and enough beds for 5 people, and this hotel fulfilled those needs plus exceeded expectation.

Yelp
I come to Hawaii about every eight weeks and for the last six months I always stay at the Luana. The park that a recent reviewer is talking about is literally a 50' x 50' center median used to cross between two main streets. I have NEVER had ANY issue and I am a young single female. There is lots of homeless people in Hawaii, don't come here if that's an issue for you because they are everywhere. That's just Hawaii. I would recommend the luana for multiple reasons. The staff is always extremely accommodating. The rooms are very spacious compared to a lot of hotels in Waikiki. It is a decent walk away from the beach but it's also a decent distance away from all the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. Which I prefer because it's less busy up here. Not such long waits for restaurants in the area and not walking elbow to elbow with people on the street. My rooms have always been clean, housekeeping comes regularly, there's at least a small kitchenette in all the rooms. I have nothing negative to say about the luana and will continue to stay here.

Jonathan C.

Yelp
I stayed at Luana Waikiki for the first night of my trip. I wasn't expecting much--just kind of wanted a forward base to figure out what I'd be doing (and what real hotels I'd be staying in) for the trip--but Luana turned out to be a nice hotel. I was in room 1514 (Studio, Kitchenette, Partial Ocean View), on floor 15. Their top floor is 16. Luana is half a mile from the beach, so I didn't think there would be much of a view, but the view was nice. Maybe a 30 degree view of the ocean, with Fort DeRussy between the hotel and the beach. The room was nice, with only minor issues. Generally clean. Maybe one or two stains on the curtain, not a big deal. The kitchenette was large and had lots of appliances and cookware. The mini-fridge was larger than most mini-fridges. If it had a stove and a full-size fridge, it would be a full kitchen. You could almost cook your own meals in it, except it's missing a few crucial items, such as a cutting board and a spatula. The balcony isn't 100% private. It's part of the same physical balcony as the neighboring room. There's a thin separator in between, but you can easily see and hear your neighbors when you're both on your balconies. The photos on Hotels.com were accurate. Some nice Polynesian decor. Some of the furniture is aging, though everything was functional. Maybe a few minor issues with the way the room is designed. The shower head is mounted fairly low on the wall--about 5 feet, 7 inches above floor-level. No USB ports. No desk or work area. There's a dining table and a coffee table, but they're not quite the same. The business center is lacking (it's just one old computer and a printer), although I wouldn't expect a 3-star hotel to have a business center at all. There's an annoying, partly hidden, mandatory resort fee. The Wi-Fi was fine. About 15 Mbps up and down. That's tested against a server in San Francisco. For some reason, there's a PS 3 in the room (the PS 4 was released 6 years ago). And they let you rent DVDs. So their technology's aging too. Overall, pretty good. One of the best views in Waikiki for a non-oceanfront hotel. Great value for what I paid (under $200 including taxes and resort fee).

Yelp
Hotel overall was great. Small issues with out overhead shower not working randomly but the view from our room was great. location was amazing. Very close to the mall, restaurants and only 5-10min walk from the beach. The cleanliness and hospitality was great despite COVID.

Yelp
So this place had some good and bad things about it. Mostly bad. Stayed here last week for 4 nights. It was packaged into our trip from the Costco Trip package. We stayed in room 914. So let's get the good out of the way: + Decent location. The beach is nearby and maybe a 5 minute walk. It's also close to the shops near the Royal Hawaiian. + Free shuttle. The shuttle is trackable online and can be a way to travel around the city for free. E.g. from one Aqua hotel to the next aqua hotel. + Happy hour on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5-6pm. This means free wine and cheese on those days on the Mezzonine. + They offer free DVD rentals. The DVD collection is pretty good. They had recent titles like focus. They had a playstation that would let you play DVD's + They offer two Weber grills to grill from on the patio on the first floor. + Full Kitchen and kitchen appliances: Small fridge, toaster, + Partial Ocean view is as advertised. Had a decent view of the city and the ocean. + Bed / Pillow was comfortable and clean So the bad parts: - This place is dirty. They rarely ever cleaned the floors when i was there. I was a slob and ate coconut chips and accidentally dropped them on the floor the first night. They were there the whole time. If they're going to have tile floors they should sweep them. As if they had carpet, normally they should vacuum it. A/C units should be cleaned. I didn't want to check out the filter. It already had dust on the outside of the vents of the AC unit. The green sofa had a stain on it. It was brown. - The curtains were rusty as well and dusty. I didn't want to touch them. There's rust near the top of it. - The complimentary breakfast package includes breakfast across the street at the gateway hotel. The breakfast buffet at the gateway hotel was at a dive karaoke bar. They served the same food everyday. It was rather dingy and should have just remained a karaoke bar and not a breakfast buffet. Read the reviews for the gateway hotel. It's pretty nasty there. - The elevators were always usually dirty as well. I've seen sand and trash on the floor most of the day. - The AC is nice and didn't bother me. It's just annoying because the hallways, fitness and main areas were never cooled with AC. The fitness center did have two AC units; but they would cool it certain times of the day. - The microwave is rather difficult to use. It's the worst microwave i've ever used - The most frustrating part is they offer beach towel rental. They gave us two key cards seperate from the room cards. So what happens is you give them two cards like monopoly money and they give you two towels. This should mean one should know how many towels to keep on hand. However, this isn't the case. Frequently at times, they would run out of towels. When we did get said towels 30-40 minutes later they were the short bath towels you get in the room. What's the point of waiting for that? Beach towels should be longer than three feet. I have a large bottom. I need the towel so that sand doesn't go everywhere where the sun doesn't shine. You're a hotel by the Beach. You should make it a priority to get beach towels. - They offer yoga classes. We woke up early for them and the instructor didn't show up. - The shower head sprayed everywhere. It need to be cleaned and properly maintained. - Pool was really small and was hot. - Wifi was spotty - $15 resort fee per day was not worth it for free wine and cheese, missing towels, and movies. Some ok observations +/- The travel guy at the desk was busy watching youtube videos of videogames. +/- Front desk would disappear behind the office. Regardless, sometimes helpful and sometimes not. Sometimes wouldn't answer the phone after the 6th or 7th ring. +/- Lack of dining choices nearby. Overall, it's ok but not some place i'd want to stay again. I'd rather save up money and stay at it's nearby competitors.

Yelp
This place is awesome. From the friendly staff to the endless amenities. We came with an infant and they provided crib and extra towels. Free DVD rentals in their own redbox kiosk. Free beac towel rentals. Free beach cruiser rentals. Our room was an upgrade with stove fridge and microwave. All appliances immaculate as stone. Chill balcony to relax. Yoga on Saturday morning. Work out room for a full body. Lemon water in the lobby. Fish Hook Restaraunt is superb and attached in the lobby. What more needs to be said?

Yelp
If you're gonna pay a decent price for a hotel in Waikiki, don't expect a 5-star accommodation! This place has a great price, great location, and awesome rooms! I really like the the floor in the room is a nice tile. It gives the room that resort feel and stays cool when the AC on blast. Beds were made and towels were changed every day. Very clean and comfortable. The mattress is on the firm side, but I love it. Free beer and wine on MWF. I'm pretty sure they hooked us up with like 6 beers each. Tipsy before dinner? No problem! I'm on vacation! Staff, bellmen, and bartenders were all super awesome. Very nice and informative. I do feel that parking is pretty expensive though, $35 a night. I've parked for $20 in parking structures located right next to the beach before. Cafe downstairs is eh. Nothing special at all, but we were able to use our resort vouchers ($30) there. Enough for morning drinks and a sandwich for my friend and I. Overall, great hotel!

Yelp
TL;DR: a great hotel that i would recommend to anyone who doesn't want to break the bank for a stay in Waikiki! PROS: + comparatively cheap price in Waikiki + awesome location: not in the smack center of Waikiki where it can get loud but still in walking distance of many popular spots (10-15 min. to Waikiki Beach) + room is amazing: beautiful balcony view, clean floors, refreshing AC, spacey kitchenette, in-room safe + super friendly staff and bellmen + great amenities: pool (albeit a little small), gym, laundry room, free movies, beach towel rental CONS: - we didn't have a car and really was depending on the free shuttle but it was never on time - parking is super expensive - overpriced breakfast buffet and cafe downstairs that we never ate at (but used the vouchers at the cafe to buy some snacks) - rooms are a bit outdated and some furniture could really use some cleaning & changing

Yelp
They really have friendly staff working here. We enjoyed the hotel and the view. We will definitely coming back here. Thanks Luana Hotel(waikiki)!

Yelp
Hidden gem...well not so hidden, but it is a gem. I chose this hotel in my bundle deal, flight and hotel. I didnt know how it would be because ive been living in hawaii for a while and didnt hear about it. But i really like staying here. I stayed for 3 nights, not sure of the rate because it was a bundle deal. But upon arrival to the hotel, everyone was nice and welcoming. The valet helped me and immediately told me the cost to park, which is $35 per night YIKES!! Although check in was at 3 pm i was able to check in at 130pm. I stayed in room 1011, partial ocean view. The room was much bigger than expected and it was really clean. The only issue was that the balcony was sandy and whenever I went out, I would bring sand inside. The furniture is mostly wicker in the room and the lobby, but the hotel had a tropical feel. A plus for me was that the tv had a great channel selection even though most people dont go to hawaii to watch tv. LOL.
