Lub d Koh Tao Tanote Bay (formerly Montalay Beach Resort)

I had a wonderful stay at Lub d Koh Tao! The location is fantastic—right by the beach, with a beautiful coral reef just in front of the hotel, perfect for snorkeling. The atmosphere is peaceful and quiet, making it a great place to relax and enjoy the stunning views. The service is truly exceptional; the staff is friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist with anything. However, there are two things that could be improved. While the breakfast menu offers a great variety of dishes, only one meal is included in the room rate. Sometimes, I found it not quite enough. Also, there’s no option to charge expenses to the room, so you always need to carry cash for food and drinks. Overall, it’s a fantastic place to stay, and I would definitely return!

We stayed at Lub D for a week. The staff went above and beyond. They supplied the best service with sincere friendliness. Breakfast was super, and the coffee and hot chocolate was very good. Room 214 was very nice and bright. We did some snorkelling in Tanote bay just outside the hotel and it was really diverse and beautiful. I highly recommend this place.

The superior room felt very basic, only one bedside table and barely any easily accessible sockets. Fairly noisy rooms too, and looked fairly dated. Location is great if you want to access Tanote Bay and stay away from crowds, but very remote. A taxi into town would be 500 baht. Hotel offers free pick up from the port and some shuttle taxis for around 150 baht at fixed times tines. Staff was really lovely and funny. Food mostly mediocre, really hit and miss, and overpriced for what you get. A la carte breakfast.

Absolutely lovely beach, the best snorkelling experience I ever have had. The staff were wonderful. The fruit I had for breakfast was good ascetically and tasty, the chicken tenders were also good. The room was clean to a point, the counters and walls could use a good scrub. Thanks for the amazing stay!

Our time at Montalay was outstanding, we had a great time snorkeling the small island and kayaking. All the staff made us feel welcome and did a great service during our time there. The food was good a little expensive but so is everything else is in the island. The breakfast choice was good so make sure to include this in your booking, its well worth the money!

Their slogan is "You didn't come for normal". I am afraid to say that their rooms are even worse than normal. Our room was really sad, no pictures on the wall, nothing colourful in them. Our bed was old, we could feel the bed springs and the bed linen had a huge hole in it. The bathroom was a lot smaller than on the picture and it smelled wet and mouldy. Some of the items, such as the kettle, the toilet lid and the dustbin were really dirty. "Breakfast included" felt more as "half-breakfast included" as we were only allowed to order one dish from the menu. The employees would benefit from a training in complaint handling: we had announced that we are on our honeymoon but nobody ever took notice of it. We also never were asked what could be done to improve our wellbeing at the property. And when asking for a different room we were told there was none available and that we should be happy because other rooms are even worse. We had planned to stay for 6 nights but left after 3. It seemed they did not want to deal with us or even discuss the opportunity to refund us if the room could be sold again. After a long email exchange we were denied a refund as we had been offered a shuttle to the pier worth 100 Bhat per person, in total 200 Bhat for 3 nights which we found very disappointing and by no means any effort for a good guest experience.

Standart bungalow comes with SHARED BATHROOM!!!!! So we paid over 100e per night (3*) to find SHARED BATHROOM!!! Been offered an upgrade for 2300thb per night to have our own bathroom!!! After a loads of trouble we managed to get an upgrade for 1000thb per night to the superior room which was a concrete, dark, horrible cave where u could hear other guest as our private bathroom window led to the corridor where a baby was crying whole night... In the middle of nowhere. Prepare to pay for taxi or rent a bike. Lovely staff!! Very nice breakfast. Nice beach where u can actually swim. Just needs more sunbeds.

I've been there 4 times in 10 years, I still love the places very much, great location and great beach just in front of the hotel. The employees are adorable! Best price/Quality of Koh Tao according to me.
