Firstly, this location is beautiful. Know that for the relatively large cost per night, you are centrally paying for location and view. Overall, I'd say this is perfect for couples who want a getaway who are comfortable being fairly remote and self-sufficient. As for some specifics, we were in room 6, and the room was pretty bare bones, but very nice and clean. There was a coffee machine, 2 wine glasses + bottle opener, and a small ice bucket. No refrigerator or microwave. Additionally, it's helpful to know the layout of the place. There are 10 rooms in close proximity, with rooms 1/2, 3/4, and 5/6 being the first 3 buildings. And 7 - 10 each being standalone. We got unlucky and had a family with 2 young toddlers next door, and because the walls are very thin, we heard those kids cry and stomp around all evening and all morning. We were surprised anyone would bring 2 small children here for one night, but luck of the draw when you stay at a hotel/motel. If you want more privacy, I'd recommend units 7 through 10, as they share no walls. Other notes: - the breakfast was muffins, clementines, hardboiled eggs, and juice accessible in a cabinet outside - there was a communal ice chest - there is a lovely bench and table just below the rooms along the coast - almost no interaction with staff, and they seemed inactive on weekdays, but they did seem very nice and accommodating from our brief messaging Finally, as of Jan 2025, this is 2 miles south of the road closure, and there are a handful of food options 30 to 60 minutes south. Similarly, there are a few hiking options nearby, though some are still under fire closure. We stayed 2 nights, brought a day's worth of meals (and wine), did one half day hike, and otherwise had a very relaxed weekend, and that worked perfectly for us.

This place is out of this world! The views are spectacular and the rooms, whilst they look basic, they are laid out in a way that is practical and comfortable. We had a fireplace and an ocean view from each of the windows, which was amazing. The bed was extremely comfortable, with great quality crisp bedding and pillows. Check in was easy to do and instructions on how to do this were received a few days before. There is nothing at all nearby and no TVs in the room which we loved, because who needs anything else when you’re staying in a place like this with the views that it offers. But, definitely bring food and drinks with you when you arrive as there really is no store nearby. Breakfast was a little disappointing, it was just an orange and a blueberry muffin with a choice of apple or cranberry juice, and the cleanliness of the bathroom could’ve been better, but overall it is an amazing place that I would not hesitate to return to again and if you’re considering staying here, you should, just for the experience.

This place is amazing! The view is incredible. The room was cozy, clean and modern. I would definitely recommend staying here. The drive up is wonderful with many places to stop and enjoy. The restaurant is closed in the little town, but you can buy snacks. The prices were a bit high though.

Outstanding location, beautiful drive from Monterey if you go through Jolon, you drive through the national forests. Stop in Gorda for a meal and pick up wine/snacks and then settle into the environment. Cozy Cabin like rooms, with the waves racing to the shore below the cliffs. |Ambiance ;)

Our stay at Lucia Lodge in Big Sur was absolutely incredible. If you're looking for a peaceful escape with stunning ocean views, this is the place to be. The location is perfect — perched right above the cliffs, offering panoramic views of the Pacific that are simply unforgettable. The rooms were cozy, spotlessly clean, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Waking up to the sound of the ocean and stepping outside to that gorgeous view was a highlight every morning. I also appreciated the continental breakfast provided each morning, which was simple but fresh and a great start to the day. Overall, Lucia Lodge is a fantastic choice if you're looking for a quiet, scenic retreat in Big Sur. I'll definitely be returning!

The road is not closed coming from the south. You will have the most amazing views from this hotel. It was amazing. We were the only party there because I think people think it is not accessible. So cute! And the hosts dropped of breakfast for us with fruit, muffins, and hard-boiled eggs.

Google
Heaven on Earth. The only problem is other people being allowed there at the same time. I want it all to myself. We will be definitely be back. I would never leave if possible. The room was very clean and comfortable. The towel was a mile thick. The housekeeper was super sweet and helpful and the owner's were very generous. I am grateful to them for allowing us to stay there. I would make one tiny suggestion. I would put up a few signs reminding people to be respectful of their voices and not be loud. When you are in Big Sur, sleeping with the windows open is an absolute luxury and if an idiot happens to be staying there at the same time the luxury becomes a nightmare. I understand that people will be people, but to me it's like talking in a movie theater. People should know their surroundings and not assume that just because everyone is quiet doesn't mean they need to fill the silence. Especially at night when most are sleeping. If you are interested in staying here don't let this small note stop you. It was still top 5 greatest stays ever for me and No. 1 greatest stay with a view. Thank you,

Liz O.

Google
5/5 stars, 10/10 experience. Big Sur is a magical place, and Lucia Lodge is part of that magic. It is rustic, charming, comfortable and peaceful. The view is immaculate, and the best you can get from a stay in the area. Visiting Big Sur is all about unplugging and settling into nature's routine, and this spot is perfect for that. It felt like a dream. James and staff are all very kind and helpful. The only thing I disliked was having to leave! We will be back.

Yelp
We decided to keep going down Highway 1 through Big Sur to see what's out there. I remember reading about Lucia Lodge, but thought was a little out there and we ended up here. We decided to stop in and check out the gift shop/restroom. Then we saw the restaurant and decided to have lunch. The dining area is on the deck and we chose the seats facing towards the ocean (we can choose our own seats). I thought the view was so relaxing, almost romantic, even though there's nothing romantic about splitting a burger (we weren't that hungry). When you walk in, the menu is on the board when you walk in (simple food menu, more drinks to choose from). The staff is wearing masks and there is hand sanitizer available. Keeping the menu simple is easier on the staff and the customers, less contact in a good way. I thought the burger was a good size to split and the fries made our favorite list (yes, we judge fries). I had a glass of Estancia with my burger - it's one of my favorite Central Coast wines. It's a good stop on your Hwy. 1 adventure and worth checking out. I think if I ever spent the night next door, I would enjoy it.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this restaurant, and we were sold on the view. Their patio faces the ocean, and it is just so luxurious sitting outside, feeling the ocean breeze while having a drink and enjoying some food that makes you just appreciate life. Really, is there anything much better than that? We didn't stay at their accommodations, so can't speak for the lodge. We had the salad and fish&chips, and although not great, it was fine. At least you won't feel like it was a rip off, when you get such a beautiful view thrown in. Enjoy, since life moves so fast, and it's nice to stop once in a while and take a deep breath.

Yelp
Location, location, location... First thing is that, if you're in cabins 1-6, you don't have a sea view, you have car park view. For that reason, the cost is just unjustified. Sure, leave your room, cross the car park and sit on the bench and it's a million dollars!! The rooms are small, the bathrooms basic. There's not another restaurant for 12 miles and expect to pay at least $180 per couple at the lodge restaurant if you're drinking wine. The food is not great - dinner or breakfast. The staff are good. Service is attentive but not overwhelming. Stay a night. Take your own wine and food for a picnic. This is not my business but I feel compelled to say that the owners are missing a massive opportunity. A decent chef and an interior decorator... this place could be 600-800/day.

Yelp
This is a great little escape on hwy 1, just south of Big Sur. It has been made famous by the Netflix series "Ratched" aka Nurse Ratched and it is referred to as the sea light inn. Funny thing is the series leaves you believing there are places around. It could not be further from the truth. Which also makes it as relaxing as it is. Now that said, if you are the person who is in need of go go go, it's not for you. If you need luxury, it's not for you. I will say if you are looking for an upscale place to camp out that is very clean, has hot showers, a nice gas fireplace (I wish it was wood burning but understand), an incredible view, and just remote enough to remove all technology needs, this place is for you! Driving south on hwy1 from Santa Cruz (while it was raining - heck no it was pouring), we followed the road as it twisted back and forth leading us away from civilization and into the desolate Abyss of no cellular service. After all the twists and turns, watching rocks come off the hillside, seeing all the recent mud slides and deadfall from previous fires, I needed a drink from this white knuckle drive. No sooner had I been thinking of a drink, we found the inn along the road on the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean. AMAZING! At the main office, there is a gift shop, small store and resturant. They have decent provisions so if you don't bring anything, remember to leave your expectations at home too. You will find drinkable wine and beer Just not anything super. And be prepared to spend a paycheck because nothing is cheap! I made the mistake of not filling up earlier and it cost me $7.69 a gallon in a rinkydink place called Gorda! NFW! I paid just over $150 to put in half a tank (12 gallons).... just saying, come prepared! We packed cheese, crackers and wine- thankfully. Any meal in the sticks is ridiculously expensive. I hate to sound cheap but it's really hard to justify spending $92 on a French dip, shrimp sandwich, elderflower lemonade and a hard cider - without any sides at a place called Nepenthe 30 Miles north of Lucia. For lunch we had 2 cokes, a bbq chicken sandwich and fish and chips and spent $60. Whereas we drove about 90 Miles south to CalPoly and had amazing steak sandwiches, fries, strawberry lemonade all for $30. The people are lovely - and they should be, you are paying through the nose for their customer service. Most of the state parks along the way are open for day use. Whereas the campgrounds are closed because of some fires in the area. Regardless, the things I find to do here are hunker down and read a good book by the fire at night and go for a hike or drive during the day. As for hiking, there are many trails and beaches around. Other wise from Lucia, they are about 40 Miles north or south from anything! Really, in the middle of nowhere. To explain my score, I've given 4 stars because it's super hard to justify the prices that seem inflated because of the lack of business due to the unfortunate circumstances brought on by COVID. I love the place, and I look forward to returning when this whole COVID mess is behind us and the economy returns to reality. I might like the place better if I could eat in the restaurant instead of my room. I might like it better if they actually had breakfast. And I may have enjoyed my stay if the surrounding communities were open for business and charging realistic fees.

Yelp
Truly an ideal location Reserve one of the cliff side cabins 7-10 for the most amazing view No frills means no microwave tv or phone but they have limited satellite internet and with a cozy little spot like this who wants a tv Food is just wonderful and the staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful If you order food to take back to your room they pack it up in little warmer baskets and it will be super hot when you get back The portions are gigantic; we should have ordered one each night and shared Take a little walk up the trail in back for a great spot to watch the sunset or do your morning workout

Yelp
Cute little cabin on the cliff overlooking the ocean and listening to birds chirping. So relaxing and serene. A good getaway. There is also a trail behind the cabins. The room is equipped with a heater and a fireplace, as well as a keurig. The queen sized bed and pillows are pretty soft. 4 stars cause the bathroom wasn't that clean. Luckily I came equipped with cleaning supplies. The WiFi is pretty decent. No tv or phone service. If you want to disconnect from the world, I'd definitely recommend staying here.

Yelp
If you are looking for a super cute and scenic getaway this is for you. When I say get away, I mean it. There is zero cell phone service in 20 miles of this lodge. The drive is super scenic and depending on the time of year you might get clear sunsets or foggy mornings. My room had a standard queen size bed. The sheets were crisp and clean and the bed was very comfy. The shower is huge and the bathroom was spotless. Be warned this place does have well water, which smells like well water. There is also a gas stove and electric stove. We used the gas stove and it kept the room and bathroom very cozy. There also was a couch and two chairs in additional to small table. The entire place was extremely clean and well put together. We got there after check-in so the key was left under the mat and my name was posted on a piece of paper taped to the door. We did get breakfast which was a cutie, hard boiled egg, half a muffin, and an orange juice. I understand their kitchen burned down but for a hotel that costs $400+ a night this was a little light. You can't beat the views. Just amazing and literally, awe inspiring. The parking was easy since they have a dedicated parking lot for gusts. I would advise caution at night since the entrance is by a turn and its hard to see.

Yelp
View - 10 stars Had a glass of wine for a quick break along the way. Server was unobtrusive and kind and didn't mind that we were only there for a quick stop, just long enough to enjoy the view with our wine. Seriously though, that view. That View. THAT VIEW. Can't be beat. There is a cute little general store at Lucia Lodge along with the restaurant. If we'd have had the funds at the time of our stop, we would have rented one of the cottages overlooking the cliffs. Absolutely stunning views!

Yelp
Major shoutout to James!! First we couldn't get our door open and I emailed the after-hours email address and James showed up SO fast. Later in the evening, around 9pm, we realized we ran out of diapers for our son. My husband emailed the after hours email asking where the nearest store was because our maps was showing the closest one was about 40 minutes away and was about to close. James responded immediately, ended up getting diapers from a neighbor and dropped them off to us. He went above and beyond to help and made a huge difference in our trip. We got the honeymoon cottage and it was a great size, incredibly clean, and had the most breathtaking panoramic view of the cliff side and ocean. There are little paths you can take to explore the place. The location of this place alone is enough stay. So beautiful. It's also the perfect getaway to spend quality time with your loved one as there's no tv, no service, and not very good WiFi. Loved the lack of those distractions. The ONLY bummer was the restaurant wasn't open since it was affected by the fires. So the closest restaurant was 20 minutes away. No grocery store anywhere near either. And if you choose to bring your own food there is no refrigerator to keep it or microwave to heat something up. They provided breakfast which was a hard boiled egg, half a muffin, orange juice, and a tangerine. But definitely wish we came at a time the restaurant was running.

Yelp
My husband and I came here on our honeymoon this past week, and we're absolutely blown away. The cabins are charming and delightful, extremely clean. They take covid seriously- but it felt like taking a break from the world. The view is one of the best I've ever seen. Great food for lunch/dinner even if you aren't staying here. Very sweet, down to earth, relaxing, and private .... I can't wait to come back.

Tiana G.

Yelp
Beautiful breathtaking views. Very secluded and romantic setup. Such a nice cabin with leather furniture and a fireplace. Get the amenities of home inside a cabin. The bruschetta appetizer was delicious, but the main entrees were so-so. Overall, loved this place. Very friendly and helpful service. Very clean cabin. Highly recommended this place and definitely hoping to be back again.

Felicia C.

Yelp
You are paying for the view while having lunch/dinner at Big Sur... the price was definitely not cheap. We got fish and chips and it was about $24 or $28. Crispy, can eat with vinegar, but after a while it was kinda bland. Fries were shoestring types and crispy. Not bad.... the view was spectacular though. Friendly service.

Yelp
We had an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING time. My husband and I came for the weekend at the end of May and we still are not over the beauty that is Lucia & Lucia Lodge. I watche Ratched on Netflix and I kept getting distracted by the scenery and just had to know where filming took place. Months later we booked some tickets to LAX and when I saw Lucia Lodge had vacancy we just HAD to do it. We arrived to the lodge at after 7 PM because of LA traffic delays, and were worried we'd miss out on the dinner times and weren't sure of what else we could eat in the area. A quick phonecall to the front desk and they took care of our dinners and placed them packed nicely in a togo holder in our rooms. They even set the fire-heater on for us (it was about 54 F when we arrived), so when we arrived it was great to have everything ready. The room was super cozy, the bed was comfortable, and the bathrooms were clean. We got the room with the ocean view and it was so fun to look outside of the window. The property itself was stunning and located on a cliff essentially looking down and turquoise and sapphire waters. It was misty most of the time, but the sun did come out and lit up the whole property. The walk to a sitting area and hike up to the restaurant had beautiful flowers. The continental breakfast the next morning was fine and the eating area was super relaxing and beautiful. Location was fantastic because it can also be your drive up and down the PCH (which is a must-do in California). McWay Falls, Julia Pfieffer State Park, and Partington Cove were just a drive away and all of them were beautiful and so fun to visit. The next time we go to California I am totally staying with Lucia Lodge again!

Yelp
We booked room #4 along the Big sur coastline, and because it was a surprise (for me), I knew nothing about it going in. Location is a breeze to get to, just off Highway 1. The views from the restaurant and the lodges are gorgeous, as long as the fog stays at bay (har-har). The rooms are small, but space is at a premium, so I understand. We stayed in one of the rooms that had been recently "renovated," which pretty much consisted of a new coat of paint and new linens. The shower floor was flexible, which made me nervous, and the bed was REALLY squeaky, which proved to be quite hilarious. I loved the four Andes mints scattered around the room like a impromptu chocolate treasure hunt, and with no TV and no internet access, such random activities take shape. Each of the units share one wall, so when our incredibly drunk next door neighbors came back from a wedding, we actually had to ask them to keep it down because we could hear literally every word they said like they were in the room with us. "Hey I just met you, and this is crazy, but the walls are SUPER thin, so shut up maybe?" In the morning, we took a snooping tour of the rest of the units and the grounds, and found a secluded trail off the north end of the property. The path leads up to a private picnic area, surrounded by trees and wildflowers, overlooking the property and the south coastline. It's a secret garden of sorts, and I could see it being a gorgeous place for an event. The restaurant is overpriced for the quality of food. We started with the Lucia Lodge salad, which was fresh, flavorful and full of goodies, but that was the only culinary success of the evening. For entrees I had the Risotto with corn, mushrooms, and broccoli, which was bland, boring, and gluey. Darling man had the Pan fried salmon with risotto cake, the salmon was overcooked, dry, and again, boring. Continental breakfast was included in the room reservation, and consisted of pastries, fruit and yogurt. Nothing exciting or worth eating, really. All in all, you come for the views, to escape, and to re-focus. I was hesitant with the lack of reception or internet, but it gave us some awesome time to just be, adventure, and soak in the gorgeous natural beauty of the coastline. For 100 years old, the place is doing well for itself, leaning on the romance of yesteryear, with a slight updated flair. It's not the Ritz, but WOW what a view!

Bill L.

Yelp
Lucia Lodge is a picturesque place, many cottages sitting on the edge of a cliff, bellowing all of us to relax to the sound of ocean roars. What a great bed and breakfast. Time for wine

Elvira S.

Yelp
Yes, the main office, restaurant and store are out of commission because of the fire but I'm giving 5 stars because of Grace, the manager, who couldn't have been nicer about helping us with a problem with a rental car. She went out of her way to help us and I am so grateful to her. I really want this place to survive the bad luck they've been experiencing with the pandemic and now with the fire. The cabins are cozy and comfy and you can't beat the views. There are trails to explore and if you come prepared with your own supplies you can have a delightful and relaxing time in this ideal location. We will definitely be back if they can manage to stay afloat!

Zahra G.

Yelp
Awesome view with great food. Food options are limited, but fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and eggplant parmesan was great.

Karen R.

Yelp
This B&B is cozy and the views can't be beat, but the bed in room #4 was absolutely awful and I did not get a good night's rest at all. Highly disappointing, given the steep price tag. When I mentioned it to the young woman working reception the next morning, she apologized, but didn't do anything to try to remedy the situation. I would suggest skipping the pricey lodge and just stopping for lunch or a drink to take in the amazing views!

Margaret D.

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch yesterday (Friday 2/12) at about 12:30. You can sit where you like, so we sat at one of 2 empty tables. The waitress came over and told us a bunch of people had just come in, so she might not get to us for a while. No problem, we said. We looked over the menu. $17.95 for a sandwich. More than Disneyland. Well, this is the only place on Highway 1 for miles and miles, so we decided to deal with it. People left, stuff got cleared, more people were seated. Fifteen minutes or so in, my husband got up and gave a chair to an older couple who were trying to sit at a small empty table that only had one chair. Then the waitress came over and took the order of the older couple. My husband and I looked at each other. The couple wasn't even ready to order and had just opened their menus. We'd been seated for far longer and we hadn't even gotten to ask for drinks. We left and went to the Whale Watcher's Inn about 7 miles south.

Rose L.

Yelp
Enjoyable views with your lunch. It's a basic menu with sandwiches, burgers and salads. We tried the ca sandwich and burger. Both were fine. It's priced on the higher side and more than likely bc it's in a remote location. Cell service doesn't work in the area and it's a bit of a ways to markets so keeping that in mind, it's a good stop over for eats with a view.

Alyssa S.

Yelp
An absolute must stay if you're planning on being in the Big Sur area! It's charm and location sell it but the service is absolutely wonderful! I stayed for one night and was getting in late. Despite being a small lodge, they made it so easy for me to have a late check-in. I was so grateful for that! Stayed in cabin #7 and it didn't disappoint. Waking up to that view was such a treat! Also the continental breakfast is incredible and I love the hours for the breakfast. 8-10am (actually do-able continental breakfast hours). All in all, splurge and stay here!

Susie M.

Yelp
Beautiful view! Food came out fast, waitress was stressed and her vibe was felt. Beer was cold and fish and chips were just OK! A bit too oily for my liking. What got me was they charge for their internet with the $1.99 an hour more like for 5 minutes before it goes out. basically, if you open open more than 1 email your internet is OVER and you have to pay again. What a CROCK! I just paid good $$$ for your plate of mediocre fish and chips you might not want to charge your paying customers for the internet. Just saying.. 3 starts for the cold beer and view

Yelp
The Lucia Lodge is simply magical in a most unique way. We had come from a high end, luxury ( newspaper on your door every morning), place in Monterey and decided to finally give the Lucia Lodge a try on our last night in this beyond beautiful area. We experienced a really upsetting loss of car keys at a place where we had stopped along the way, some 20 miles or so from the lodge. We were stranded late in the day, repair service, Uber weren't even a possibility. We called the Lodge and left a message that we would be late checking in if indeed we got there at all. Finally our keys were found and we proceeded to the lodge. We later discovered that James the proprietor of the place, had in fact in response to our message, jumped into his car and came to find us. This above and beyond effort on a strangers part is so rare in today's world. We were so grateful that he had tried to rescue us. In addition to James' kindness, Location, Location, location is the reason to stay there at Lucia Lodge. These basic, no frills cabins (clearly cabin 10, the honeymoon cabin is the one to book if you can), are perched right smack at the edge of a cliff with the ocean spread out before you in all it's glory. We awoke to many birds swooping over a green meadow and the sea below and wished we had allowed the time to stay longer and sit in that meadow overlooking the sea. Go back to a simpler time and a unique connection to nature.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary. I will start with the positives: 1. GORGEOUS views of the ocean - we were able to wake and see the ocean (and sunrise) from our bed, each ocean view room/cottage had adorandack chairs out front that were absolutely perfect for just sitting out and enjoying all of the views, and the restaurant is all windows facing the ocean + outside seating facing the ocean 2. The rooms/cottages are very clean, comfortable and adorable. They offer coffee and tea in your room via koureg, a few small necessities for showering and a comfy/cozy space. 3. The continental breakfast they offer is just enough fuel and variety to get your day started. 4. Little wifi service and no cell reception - which we loved! That may not be a plus for for everyone, but if you are looking to really disconnect and enjoy a trip away - HUGE plus. The negatives that lost a star (1.5 stars if I could have from the computer): 1. The girl that runs the store and the check-in/out process is rude and full of attitude. She treats you as if you are in the wrong, when she does not follow the store hours that are posted. She talks down to you, if you can even get more than a few words covered in disdain and attitude. It is a toss-up between amazing and appalling that someone with so much attitude, and that appears to hate her job so much, is working in hospitality, much less at such an adorable bed and breakfast. 2. You cannot rely on the store/restaurant hours and should really plan around that. It is pretty far from any kind of store (convenience/grocery) and other restaurant, so definitely plan accordingly. All in all, if you can interact as little as possible with the girl who runs the store, and can plan your food out and about, you won't regret your stay here. It is quiet, peaceful and absolutely gorgeous. The views and the peace will win you over.

Yelp
We decided to stay at Lucia Lodge after reading reviews about this place right on the edge of the cliff with glorious views. Because room #10 was available, we snagged it. In all honesty, I'm not sure I'd recommend staying here if room #10 isn't available because the views are so so worth ita and that extra privacy is great. Check in was interesting, as it takes place in their convenience store. We got our key and drove our to our room. Room #10 is really large, with a queen bed, leather sofa, leather armchair, desk, and coffee table. There's also a closet and a small bathroom with just a shower. There are several windows, which we promptly opened to take advantage of the breeze and the sound of the ocean below. We unpacked our stuff, found our binoculars, and went to the cliff's edge, where we happily spotted seals all evening. We took the trail up to the top (which is a pretty vertical hike) and also enjoyed the views from there (although note - in June, you cannot see the sun go down from here as its blocked by trees). And that's pretty much it. We alternated between taking in views above our cabin and below, counting the seals and watching them. Had we not had binoculars I think we would have been really bored. Wifi was sloooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, which was frustrating. We walked to dinner (we had considered driving to Treebones for sushi, but due to the road closures, didn't want to take a chance getting stuck). Opera blared as we entered the dining room (it was Orff's Carmina Burana, which I love, but isn't exactly the best music for a seaside dinner...) and we seated ourselves by the window to look out at the water. Truly amazing views! We were 1 of 3 tables (although to be fair, we went rather late; we were the last table seated). Our waitress was super friendly and informative. We had some wine and got the house salad (very good!) and the fettucine with blackened chicken (yum!). We enjoyed our dinner, which was very homey and satisfying. If staying here, I would recommend bringing a cooler. They do have ice so you can stock up on that, but if you have a cooler, you can at least bring wine/beer and sandwiches to eat while overlooking the water from your room (which is what our neighbors did). They do provide wine glasses and a cork screw in the room. We spent the evening reading and just prepping for the next day. I slept pretty okay, but kept getting hot under the down comforter and then getting cold since its so chilly in central CA in June. In the morning, there was no view at all. We were literally in the clouds. We walked to get our continental breakfast, which was coffee, tea, toast, oatmeal, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, and fruit. Pretty standard and okay. This time, we were only 1 of 2 in the dining room, which was a misfortune for us as the other table decided to get into a horrible fight with each other despite us being a few tables over. Awkward! Oh well. All in all, I'm glad we drove down to Lucia Lodge and had a relaxing evening watching the ocean and the seals. However, I think I would have been happier to stay one more night in Big Sur proper at Glen Oaks or an extra night in Carmel.

Yelp
The menu claimed their fish and chips were on the top ten list in the United States, so I went for it. With a bold statement like that, how could I not? You are served two very large pieces of fish, fried in a nice, golden batter, over a bed of fries. The fish is very flaky and quite good; squeeze some lemon juice over it, splash some malt vinegar on, and dip it in the tartar sauce and it can't get much better. The fries are good, too. The food isn't the only reason to visit this place; the view is spectacular. You are right on the coastline and, short of being on the beach, you couldn't get much closer. If you can, sit on the patio - the view is well worth sitting in the heat, and the tables have umbrellas. Plus, the waiters and waitresses always ensure your water glass is filled. The patio is also surrounded by quite a lovely flower garden; I spent a little bit of time trying to name all the flowers. A few things to keep in mind - finding food along this stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway can be tough at times. Lucia's was good, but it's also a little on the expensive side. The fish and chips cost $22. If you don't mind the price tag, then, by all means, dine here. If you're on a budget or trying to save some money, Big Sur is not too far away from Lucia and has several more dining options. One last thing - be sure to sign the guest book by the front door! When I signed, the people directly before me were also from Austin, TX. Just think - we could have been eating in the restaurant at the same time! What a small world.

Yelp
I booked this room in Feb. for two nights we stayed in room #1. It was my mother's birthday and we decided to meet in Big Sur. I should have been more thorough with my research before booking the room. The lodge is not located in Big Sur proper. It's about 30 min. south on Highway 1, just past the town sign that reads "Lucia". The lady who checked us in (I assume was the owner) was pretty abrasive. She made me feel uncomfortable about having provided my credit card number as she mentioned that I needed to sign a paper allowing her to charge me in case I punched any holes in the wall. Perhaps she was trying to be funny? The room was really tacky and not properly maintained. No weather stripping on the door, the pictures were drilled to the wall, the single pane windows rattled heavily during the storm. Many holes in the wall (I assume from moving the pictures and curtain rods), the bathroom fan was partially dangling from the ceiling. The rain came through under the door and got the carpet wet. There were two wine glasses available for use and an ice bucket. The bags of ice were 8$ at the store but the owner gave us one for free which I appreciate. There is a heating/cooling wall unit. If the owners replaced the existing windows from the 80's with double panes and weather stripped the door they wouldn't waste so much electricity with the wall unit. The cleaning lady gets gold stars as the linens were perfectly crisp and white, the place was clean. The pictures on the web site are misleading. "partial ocean view" is half of a parking lot in front of the ocean. I would also not claim to offer wifi if the signal is so low my phone wouldn't allow me to connect to the internet. I paid for their public wifi which worked great and perfectly fast when I was directed to paypal to pay for the connection. Once paid for, the connection it dropped to the same slow speed that my phone would not connect to. I don't care about TV and I am fine without internet or cell service but I at least need to know about internet availability so I can prepare. I would have brought a better map and and locally saved details about our plans. I made dinner reservations for a restaurant in big sur that ended up being an hour away from where we stayed and I couldn't cancel them because I had no way to contact the place. I payed for two nights but ended up forfeiting the last night because the place was so out of the way, I didn't feel very safe during the storm and there was no way to make a hot cup of tea to warm us up in the evening. I will not be back nor will I recommend this location. We ended up getting a cheaper room elsewhere that was much more charming, cozy and friendly. Note: I paid 194.00 a night to stay at Lucia Lodge

Yelp
Lucia Lodge has been around for 85 years (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/xBHyr710TTzHj95qnVXB9A?select=YUHuiCAKB_ecWF7IBQnHRg) and has some great views of the Big Sur coast from the dining room and patio areas (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/xBHyr710TTzHj95qnVXB9A?select=AQ6rw3HOBFDMEX6ETI4PMw). Their Fish & Chips were named one of the top 5 Fish & Chips in the US by Coastal Living Magazine (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/xBHyr710TTzHj95qnVXB9A?select=e-v_I3gIW-GRYXy1jBilJQ) Still, $21? They do provide a very large portion of 2 full fillets (basically 1 whole fish http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/xBHyr710TTzHj95qnVXB9A?select=WIjmOTgObQXnxB_K3AWJ8w). Tartar sauce comes with the plate & malt vinegar is at the tables if you want to go British. Fish was well cooked with moist and flaky flesh, but really bland batter so the vinegar & tartar sauce were a necessity along with some salt. I'd give it 3 stars. Garlic chicken sandwich ($16.50 http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/xBHyr710TTzHj95qnVXB9A?select=uTp5iOQeYk51j92EvtOuew) It did have nice char-broiled flavor, though no noticeable garlic flavor. Again the protein was well cooked and moist and the veggies were fresh and tasty. I liked it despite the lack of garlic. Unlike the large serving of fish & chips, this wasn't a big sandwich to make you feel like you got a reasonable value. 4 stars. Fries were mixed. First fry with my sandwich was cold. Others on plate were barely lukewarm. Fries with the g/f's fish & chips came out hot. My dish possibly sitting around under heat lamp while waiting for the fish to cook? 2.5 stars for the fries. OK food. A bit pricey. You're in the middle of nowhere so I guess you take what you can get.

Yelp
Restaurant Review. Expensive, but it's understandable. Their business is seasonal and they need to pay for the business somehow. The food is FRESH FRESH FRESH and though I can't afford to eat here on a regular basis (if I were local), I'm happy to pay the higher prices for the quality, super friendly service, view, and portion sizes. Rode up from Orange County on Thanksgiving weekend and stopped here for lunch on our way to Monterey. Got here 30 minutes before opening so we took a rest in the downstairs patio balcony area. Great view and nice place to get some peace and quiet after being on the road for a day and a half. Service is friendly and accommodating. The portions are LARGE. The ingredients are FRESH. The view is of course, fantastic. Tuna salad sandwich was IMMENSE and so flavorful without being overbearing. The tuna was fresh and tender and there wasn't too much mayo. The bread was amazing and the overall texture of the sandwich was enough to make me a believer. Cobb salad was also fantastic. Fresh romaine and spinach with SPROUTS!!! I love alfalfa sprouts and it was great to see them in the salad. Cucumber, red cabbage, carrot, tomato, and freshly sliced turkey. Though the turkey was a bit salty for me, it did well to take the place of the dressing which I ordered on the side. Bacon was REAL BACON and the olives tasted smooth and rich. Vegetable soup was simply boiled vegetables in water with a little bit of salt and it was GREAT. Most people would say that it tastes too bland but I loved it. It was clean, refreshing, and healthy. Pumpkin pie was a bit hard but it was still good. I like my pumpkin pie on a smoother side. The crust was also a bit hard but that's probably because it was leftover from Thanksgiving two days prior. FRESH WHIPPED CREAM made it all worth while. I only had a few bites but even if I tried, I couldn't finish it all since it wasn't just a "slice." It was a QUARTER of the whole pie! Apple pie was warm, fresh, and comfortable. They didn't have any vanilla ice cream so we went next door to the shop and bought a pint. Worked out well. I look forward to a future visit during one of our rides north. I doubt we'll ever stay here since we take PCH as a early morning ride on our way to Monterey, but for lunch, most definitely. I hear good things about the fish and chips but it's too heavy to eat before riding up the rest of PCH. Maybe some day, but for now, I'm thoroughly and completely satisfied with their Cobb Salad, Vegetable soup, and Tuna. Maybe some day I'll order something different.

Yelp
Three stars only if you stay in Cottage #10 (the Honeymoon), bring your own dinner from Delica (in the SF ferry building), a bottle of wine and some marsh-mellows to roast. Also recommended is a trip to Esalen for the 1AM-3AM hot spring tubs. Do not attempt to stay here any other way. The original cottages are the way to go. The newer ones - thumbs down!

Yelp
6 PM on a Saturday night. 50 miles of driving to get there. And, in spite of other sites indicating it should be open for dinner-- it was closed. CLOSED. At 6 PM. Love to be able to say more about the food-- but the service and food really could not have been worse-- because they were absolutely NON-EXISTENT. Nothing but lights out, a closed sign, and a shut door. If I could give zero stars I would-- because that's all NO service deserves. Don't waste your time on this place-- go somewhere that actually stays open for dinner on the Big Sur Coast (Nepenthe, Deetjen's Big Sur Inn, Big Sur Deli -- still open to 8 PM, Big Sur Lodge, Big Sur River Inn... there are more than enough places that actually want your business-- UNLIKE the Lucia Lodge!).

Yelp
Good pit stop if you need a break in the Big Sur area. There is a bathroom outside but beware of the wait. There's a restaurant and small store located on the premises.

Yelp
Ate at the restaurant, and stayed at the lodge for 2 nights in March. 2 stars for the view, the lodge needs some major TLC. Motel 6 rooms would get a 5 star review if I compared them to this place. A nice view isn't going to make up for a run down place and if anything takes away from the whole experience. The only thing good about this place is the location.

Yelp
As always: the Fried Chicken Sandwich, fries, incredibly view and friendly service did not disappoint. Great spot for lunch along the coast

Yelp
We were driving down the coast and the only restaurant for miles was the Lucia Lodge. Now, it really does not have much Street appeal at all, and we almost left and went somewhere else, but stayed. The food was incredible! The fish and chips are a big hit, and the turkey sandwich was to die for. Portions are quite large too! Views are stunning, there is a patio you can eat at that is on the edge of the cliff. Only downside to this place is the wait staff is quite unfriendly and almost rude.

Yelp
Stopped here while on a drive down the windy coast and what a great view!! As can be expected with a gorgeous view of the ocean plus located on curvy-turny HWY 1, it was very expensive!! For example, we saw a tableside guest eating their "famous" Fish and Chips and though the serving was HUGE, it's priced at over $20!!! Great view, a small lot to park at if you can stop without being rear-ended by someone behind you, and for you folks wanting to use bathroom after a loong trip: there's bathrooms downstairs and upstairs!! Outside seating available also, but on windy days your food chills quickly.

Yelp
After driving south from Carmel, I thought the road would never end. Finding this place was a huge relief. They have a wonderful restaurant inside, and a huge patio outside overlooking the ocean. We had some wonderful soup. The other items on menu all sounded good, but the soup was plenty enough to satisfy us as we continued our travels south.

Yelp
During COVID. This review is only for the restaurant. Masks are required. Space is limited. We waited in line for maybe 20 mins. We got seated with a view of the water This place was such a jem and we were totally shocked by how beautiful the view was. Honestly it was more beautiful than where we went for dinner and that place was 5 stars. The food is forgettable but just order a glass and enjoy the view. The restuarant is built on the side of a hill and there is a grassy area below where you have your to-go lunch or the kids can play. Would def come here for a stop over again. No reservations and must be present to get a table.

Yelp
This review is solely for the restaurant which we stopped at for lunch on a whim while driving route 1. From the outside, we were expecting simple burgers and sandwiches and our expectations were not particularly high. The menu was definitely a step above and the quality of the food matched. My wife and I each had the sockeye salmon salad with avocado, radish, and almonds accompanied with a wasabi vinaigrette. The salmon was grilled perfectly (still bright pink in the middle, nice char on the outside) , we both cleaned our plates. The kids got grilled cheese (whole grain, thick sliced bread with two types of cheese) with pasta salad, and fried chicken sandwich with pickle slaw. Everybody leaving satisfied. Service was fine, black flys and yellow jackets on the porch were a bother, but not much the can do about that. Definitely will come again if we get the chance. Oh, and wi-fi available.

Yelp
We stopped by and wanted to have a quick lunch but the lady was very mean to us. I didn't quite understand why, maybe because we have a Corgi with us? I asked her "Is dog allowed on the patio?" She walked by us, answered me without patience and without looking at me: "as long as other customers don't mind." and walked away directly. We were not being respected at all. So we decided to go. I feel like this little lunch place is just too arrogant. Maybe they think they are the only stop within several miles??? Suggestion: Don't waste your time eating there and ordering from a mean lady! Just grab a drink at the store is enough.

Yelp
Beautiful views and pretty good food. We stopped by here for lunch and it was the most beautiful views! They have sandwiches and salads for lunch. Prepare to cram into a small table and crappy plastic chairs on a small patio but the view alone is worth it! Service needs a little help - the same lady was hostess and had all the tables so she was pretty slow. It's also pretty expensive but considering this is the only town for miles, it's to be expected. You don't have much choice in dining when heading up to Big Sur. If you're passing by around lunch time, it's worth a stop.

Yelp
Restaurant review-- We were there yesterday (Sunday), two adults and one kid (who eats like an adult). Other than an indoor restaurant, they have a deck with tables and also a bar that overlooks the ocean. Amazing view that justifies the overpriced food. On the bright side, the dishes are abundant--we had fish and chips and a fish sandwich (with a pasta salad on the side), and didn't leave hungry. The french fries were very good, the fish was not bad but completely unsalted. They should have put salt on the fish before frying it. I tried adding salt later, but it didn't stick to the batter. The fish sandwich was pretty good, I particularly liked that the bread was toasted and crispy. But again, the best is the amazing view. I've never sat at a bar that overlooks the ocean in the open air. That gets the five stars.

Yelp
Very overpriced food for the quality. We ordered the California sandwich and the avocado wasn't fresh and the deli turkey meat did not taste fresh. Lackluster service and no ambiance.

Yelp
We were driving down from Pacific Grove and had been rerouted through the mountains due to a section of Route 1 being closed due to the recent landslides in the area. We had been driving for 3 and half hours and were pretty hungry. We had stopped for lunch. It was empty besides two others who were also stopping for lunch. The waitress's name was Bree and she was attentive and very pleasant. I had the chicken sandwich, which was quite tasty but a bit pricy. But when it's the only restaurant for miles, I guess you have to deal with it. I did leave feeling full but not hating myself for eating too much. P.S they have a lovely view from the windows inside

Yelp
Stated 4 nights here the week before last in one of the cabins. Let me say the view is amazing. The reason for the 3 stars is there were 'flakes' falling off of the ceiling and onto our bedding. We spoke with housekeeping who stated that this was a known issue. Why would you rent a cabin that continuously has flakes falling onto the bedding? Why was this not fixed before we were given the keys? Also the walls are super super thin and we could hear entire conversations in the next room. Lastly was the dinner service. Each plate was $30 so we ordered the chicken Parmesan. It was typical chicken Parmesan that you was busy basic. For the $30 price tag you would think it would at least come with a salad but it doesn't. We weren't happy about the price but didn't feel like driving anywhere else.

Yelp
With respect to the restaurant for lunch...and the month where I couldn't have fried foods: I had an expensive salad with some kind of dressing that was probably from a bottle bought at Safeway somewhere, while everyone else around me had some kind of burger and yummy-smelling, beautiful, golden french fries. Sure, the view was nice. And okay, I had some kind of sandwich, too. And it was good. But over $15 for a sandwich with an average side salad that had generic dressing? No, no, no! I didn't even get the fuckin' fries!!!

Yelp
Stopped in again as I live here, the store clerk kris, again a total idiot. Shared her opinions about my purchase telling me things like, "you spend a lot of money here, jeeeesh you should quit or buy them in town, do you actually smoke a pack EVERYDAY?" I told her, 'Sometimes but only when my dog bums from me?' Customer service with her is zero stars. The other clerks are kind and friendly-kris works evenings so go to Gorda then.

Yelp
We stopped on our travel down hwy 1, after we had passed many places to eat that were packed, we came upon this gem! The outside view for eating was gorgeous! Two of us had fish and chips, which I highly recommend! My husband had the special, which was a Mexican burger which he enjoyed. They did not have a kids menu and the menu itself was limited, however there was no complaints from those of us that ordered!

Melissa C.

Yelp
This place probably has the most epic view I've ever seen at a restaurant ever. It's sitting right on the cliffs as you drive into big sur. They also have the best fish and chips I've ever had and it's ranked in the top 10 by coastal magazine. Hubby and I grabbed a beer, sat at the ledge on the patio and shared the fish and chips. It was a great experience and the food was great. They have binoculars you can use to check out the rocks and water down below. Will be back!
