"They call it a town, but Luckenbach is more of a state of mind. An hour’s drive west of Austin, the music venue began as a trading post in 1849. It had faded into oblivion by 1971, when Hondo Crouch, an all-American swimmer and humor writer, answered a newspaper ad and bought it for $30,000. Crouch is gone, but as the Dale Watson song goes, “Everybody’s Somebody in Luckenbach, Texas."

Yelp
How could I not write a review for the place I got married ?!! The first time I came to Luckenbach over 8 years ago my very first thought was that it would make the perfect wedding venue- and I was right! The photos we got getting married under the beautiful oak tree outside are remarkable. Kat really helped make sure the local wine we wanted at the wedding got ordered. My only complaint would be that the bar that's supposed to be connected to the dance hall still wasn't finished. I don't even think it's finished now. Everything else about having Luckenbach as a wedding venue was awesome. Amazing photo ops, great private dance hall and an affordable venue!

Yelp
This little community is worth a stop if you're anywhere close just to say you've been there. Some big acts play here on occasion but one can stop here anytime for a distraction. I came here on a Wednesday afternoon. Abundant parking. Walked through two cute little shops (including all the "all I got was a lousy T-Shirt" options) and a rustic but apparently well-appointed bar (no outside beverages allowed). Also: big clean bathrooms. The best part was at 1:30 in the afternoon, I enjoyed LIVE music--a guitar-violin duo. The violinist was 75 if he was a day, and he was great! Plenty of casual picnic table seating.

Yelp
Such a famous place and I have always wanted to at least go once! Cute little post office store and bar and a nice tribute to Hondo. Seems like a cool place to be when the weather is nice and a band is playing. Lots of space to spread out.

Cassidy C.

Yelp
Did a tour of hill country dance halls during spring 2024. Best dance hall in Texas, hands down. Great people here.

Eric F.

Yelp
Very friendly, expect to feel welcomed. You are a critical part of the atmosphere in a place where " Everybody is somebody in Luckenbach ". You don't have to be there for the music, you don't have to drink, you don't have to spend money, you and your family (dogs on leashes are good to go anywhere you go). Enjoy the day.

Yelp
While a concert in Luckenbach would be the ultimate experience, a visit in the early morning - I went at 9 am on a drizzly weekday - is a peaceful experience. It's in a beautiful part of the Texas Hill Country and in April the bluebonnets and other wildflowers were spectacular. The gift shop had nice items and the little museum was very interesting.

Yelp
Luckenbach Texas is incredibly small but is a place you have to stop at at least once if you're a Texan. Not only is it named in one of Waylon Jennings's song, but its a fun place to hang out and enjoy some beer/live music with friends. My friend and I decided to venture to Luckenbach after spending the day in Fredericksburg as it was only about 15 minutes away. The entire "town" was comprised of a dance hall, small store, outdoor music area and a small bar. We were able to explore each of the pieces relatively quickly and then decided to go listen to music. We grabbed beer (lone star) and wine (becker vineyards) from the bar and then grabbed a seat to listen to @The Merles who were performing. The beer and wine were both bottled (no draught options) so we chose the local options. I would have a lone star beer again but wouldn't suggest the wine from Becker Vineyards. Everyone here was friendly and it's a place I'll stop by again!

Susanne B.

Yelp
Came because of the song and the place was exactly what I had expected. Loved it. We sat for some time in the shade and listened to a group of songwriters tell stories and sing songs on a little stage. Everyone we interacted with in the store was very nice. We bought some Tshirts that were nice quality and not overpriced. We visited on a quiet mid week afternoon, and I would love to come back for a dance or concert.

Yelp
I was researching Texas on the atlas and said to the spouse, we need to stop here if we have time. I researched and knew it was a touristy souvenir shop/stop. I absolutely love the Waylon Jennings Luckenbach Texas song. Back when country music was real. I even you tubed the song on the way here from San Antonio to Fredricksburg. Spouse sat outside while I went in 2 souvenir stores. Didn't find anything at the post office store. Went in other store and found 2 shirts Clearanced at 35% off. A t-shirt and button down camo shirt. I also got another long sleeve t shirt, sticker and small metal sign. Sadly, there was no music playing outside while I was shopping. We don't drink, but beer was for sale inside. If you love the song Luckenbach Texas, then this is a must stop for souvenirs or stuff you can't live without. Review 55 in 2023.

Yelp
Go to Luckenbach Texas and have a Shiner! Absolutely a fun experience!!! They had live music, cute shops and drinks!

Maria E.

Yelp
If you're heading to/from Fredericksburg, I highly recommend making a quick stop in Luckenbach. You can stay for a little while, if you want, or you can be in/out. There's not much here -- two souvenir shops, a bar, a food truck, and live music. They seem to have some sort of live music act happening everyday. Check out their online calendar to see the acts/times: https://www.luckenbachtexas.com/calendar. It's a really pleasant stop to grab a cold drink, listen to some mellow tunes, and pick up a souvenir or two.

Nick K.

Yelp
This is truly an iconic Texas venue. They have a dance hall, outdoor stage and a more intimate outdoor stage for picker's circles. There is a souvenir/hat shop, the bar and a place to order food. Beers are reasonably priced considering you have live music, and they are cold. You may want to eat before you get here as the food is just so-so. But, the music is great, the beer is cold and it's a fun time to relax and listen to some good Texas country!

Jeremy B.

Yelp
Drinking a root beer and laid down on picnic table. Guy came by and said you're not allowed to lay down outside. Pretty pathetic to have such a great place to relax and then not be able to relax.

Kat H.

Yelp
Favorite little historic stop in whenever we're in the hill country. I love the store and the bars! With a peacefull atmosphere and relaxing vibe any time of the year it's a must stop scenic area for every travel!

Staci C.

Yelp
Todd and I came to Fredericksburg for Thanksgiving 2023. His one request was that we go and check out Luckenbach, TX. So glad we did! Had a blast, a few beers and good laughs. And bought me a new hat!

Pascal P.

Yelp
This was a slightly odd but charming place to visit. We stopped by and had a beer while listening to someone place music. As noted by others everyone here was friendly. I wouldn't take a trip all the way out here just to see Luckenbach but as a stop on the way to Enchanted Rock I thought it was cool.

Lisa B.

Yelp
if visiting Fredricksburg you must drive to Luckenbach at least once. We lucked out and saw Johnny Lee. Cover was $25 each. Beer is a better choice over wine. Open air but not too bad in September. It is Just one of those cool, historic places that should be on your list.

Ashley T.

Yelp
I purchased a Luckenbach brand candle (tobacco/bay leaf) from the Luckenbach gift shop on E. Main Street. Unfortunately, the candle wick was not long enough to actually burn the candle (poor quality). I was unable to use the candle. A waste of $22.00. Otherwise, it was a lovely store.

Yelp
This is the second time I have brought this to the attention of the ticket staff. All abledl bodies with no physical disabilities. I personally am disabled myself. The individual in front of me a disabled vet was forced to park far out due to the lack of handicap spaces. Is it really that hard to provide enough spaces for those with disabilities. You have an entire parking lot (field). If the county actually forced you to mark out the field you would be way under the required spaces. We love Luckenbach but is it really that hard to leave the entire front two rows for disabled veterans and the handicap.

John R.

Yelp
I've been here 2-3 times but probably never coming back. I ordered some beers for me my wife and daughter. My 27 year old daughter didn't have her her id. She gave the beer back but they called the cops on us. The county sheriff descended with 3 officers crazy that were on us like we were the cartel and had just machine gunned a bunch of folks. Of course nothing happened as we were 100% legal. Never coming back to this screwed up place though.

Cory C.

Yelp
Such a great venue and well worth the ticket price for the bluegrass festival!! Loved all the bands and fans!!

Dana T.

Yelp
We love Luckenbach! Dropped in midday on a Wednesday to see John Bardy play. Great music. Fun crowd. Although in was really warm in the Hill Country -- it's always cool and breezy at Luckenbach. For the midday show, you can bring a lunch. #SaveLuckenbach

Yelp
We're 4 old farts traveling cross country in a van. We decided to get off I-10 and see what this little town was about. We enjoyed the scenery on the ride to get there and back. There are several buildings and a food truck. The post office/general store is the main attraction. I will say the employees in all the buildings were very friendly. We smoked one for Willey, mailed a few postcards, tried out the kissing booth and enjoyed the tranquility.

Robert M.

Yelp
Nice stop on our road trip. Glad I had a chance to visit a piece of history. For the record neither Waylon or Willie were there. Be sure to have a drink at the bar behind the Post Office.

John L.

Yelp
This is a destination kind of pace. Came here for a music event. They have plenty of people selling libations and coffee. It's small enough that there isn't a bad place to watch the show.

Yelp
Visiting Luckenbach, Texas and enjoying live outdoor music IS A MUST, if you're on the hunt for a fun & safe activity to do for both adults, children, and even your fur babies! :)) On 08/07/2020, my hubby & I visited Luckenbach to celebrate my hubby's 40th birthday & even though we had visited pre-pandemic, this was the 1st time visiting during the pandemic and I have to say, it was AWESOME getting to enjoy live outdoor music, while munching on some yummy food, and sippin' on an adult beverage that made me feel just a little bit prettier ;)), and just for a little while, I forgot all about the pandemic craziness! Since sharing is caring :) I just wanted to give you the 411 for those of you you've never visited Luckenbach before or if it's been awhile since you've visited. The 411: -Great scenic motorcycle ride to Luckenbach, TX. For all the motorcycle riders (or motorcycle babes, like myself ;) the trip to Luckenbach is a great scenic route filled w/ country roads, lots of wildlife (keep any eye out for the deer), fresh air, & the Texas sunset that makes the sky look like it's on fire!! -Luckenbach itself has an old dancehall, General store, a few food and alcohol vendors (no byob), an outdoor music stage, outdoor picnic tables setup all around (you can also bring your own portable chairs), a kissing booth :)) and other IG or FB photo worthy signs & memorabilia to strike a pose in front of. :) There are also plenty of clean restrooms on-site. Make sure to check out the Luckenbach website to see the lineup of the music performances scheduled each day & FYI, the food vendor only accepted cash. I really appreciate the COVID precautions in place: each of the tables are 6 ft apart, a bigger music stage was built so that you are able to enjoy the live music no matter where you are seated at, masks are required to be worn if you are in line to buy food, drink, or in line to use the restroom, and also need to be worn if you are sitting at a table w/ people not in your household. Hand sanitizers are conveniently located. There was also a limit of how many people went into the general store at one time. We went on a Friday night and there was plenty of tables so we didn't have to sit w/ anyone else & there was never a wait to use the restrooms. The lines to get your food & drink always went fast so the wait time was not long at all. There were a few people who had their kids & fur babies w/ them so it's safe to say it's a kid-friendly & pet-friendly venue. There are also 6 cabins that can be rented that are located on the same property, across the creek from the Luckenbach music stage. To sum it up...it's been waaaaaay tooooooo loooong that I've felt so peaceful, relaxed, and just carefree! Visiting Luckenbach was just the thing I needed. I sure do miss living in a pandemic-free world!!!!! :(((( Any-who, hope this info is helpful to you! :)) -Rebecca out

Yelp
What a wonderful place. Live music, cold beer and shady benches. Nice place to relax on a Sunday.

John L.

Yelp
The beer is ice cold. The vibe is genuine and full of southern Texan charm. Well worth the stop.

Joseph N.

Yelp
Cold beer Country music Friendly people What more do you need ? We stop in a few times a year.

Don J.

Yelp
One of the best places in Texas to enjoy acoustic music and cold longnecks at a shady outdoor table. True, the old post office has been turned into a pricey gift shop, and you'll see tourists from other states and countries looking for that quintessential Texas experience. Even so, Luckenbach manages to retain its quirky charm. In colder weather a wood-burning stove makes the main bar a nice place to hang out, and the dance hall is a fantastic place to catch a concert. My favorite experience is the free "picker circle" informal acoustic concerts, where musicians sing and strum their guitars outside the main bar. Food wise, there's a snack bar with funnel cakes and other fair-style food - occasionally supplemented by food trucks. Make sure to check the event calendar before you go, as some events require tickets and may be sold out.

Yelp
Went for a quick drink and to finally listen to some Live Music. It was not the Singer that was advertised but the duo did a good job to entertain us. The server was named Hanna and she was very cute and knew her job. This is a great place to hang out on a cool Day Wait wait we were at the wrong place. My wife noticed the pictures did not match and found out the real concert location was about 15 minutes away. We took the drive and found the best place by far. We loved how cool the area is in the middle of nowhere. Singer Clayton Gardner was good not the best we have heard but the surroundings more than made up for it. If we lived closer we would be here every weekend.

Sandra J.

Yelp
So much fun every time we go. Entertainment for adults, children & pet friendly! Love it. Will return many many times!!!!!

Adam G.

Yelp
First time here... after listening to the song by Waylon Jennings for years, I decided the first cool day in October I would drive up... just... I enjoyed the Jesse Stratton Band who performed. Wow! Those guys can play! Loved the atmosphere and it was just wonderful all around. Live Music in Luchenbach!! YES PLEASE!

Skyler B.

Yelp
Cute place but the lady at the bar was extremely rude. Didnt know the distillery was a separate place and she would not answer our questions at all. The lady in the shop was really sweet.

Fernanda F.

Yelp
Luckenbach is a MUST if you are looking to get out of the city for a few hours, or if you are on your way to Fredricksburg. There is so much history surrounding this little town, but I'll let you discover that for yourself. Raine, or shine Luckenbach is always open to the public and live music is always playing. They also have a bigger venue where they host country music concerts on the weekends. During your visit, make sure to take some time to write a post card and send it from their store/postal office. If you are hungry, they have their own little food stand (not my favorite) but if you are lucky they sometimes have a Texas bbq food truck in the parking area. When you come here just remember that "out in Luckenbach, Texas ain't nobody feelin' no pain."

Erin R.

Yelp
Music was amazing and people are all friendly and welcoming! A must stop for those who are visiting TX!

Ryanne D.

Yelp
It's nostalgic! Various pickers on the patio, dirt under your feet and a drink in your hand. Shopping and listening and enjoying the atmosphere. Always a stop...historical and enjoyable. Restrooms are clean!

Paul R.

Yelp
Let's go to Luckenbach, Texas With Waylon and Willie and the boys This successful life we're livin' Got us feuding like the Hatfields and McCoys... If you are heading out to this way plan a side trip to Luckenbach. Yea it's kind of a tourist trap but in a good way. Grab a beer, listen to some music, buy a t-shirt, have a bite to eat, and just chill. Check out their entertainment schedule as they usually book good to great bands. People are friendly and if you give them money they will give you beer. What a great setup. There are plenty of photo Opps and if you are lucky you might even see a rooster doing the 2 step on the dance floor!

Michael B.

Yelp
TLDR: If you need a real taste of Texas Hill Country, you can't do better than a visit to Luckenbach. Yes, this is the place mentioned in the song by Waylon Jennings...and while it's technically a 'town', it's really a small group of buildings with a HUGE grassy parking lot outside, testament to how popular this place can be. Outside of the lively music/dance schedule, this place just oozes cool and laid-back atmosphere. There's almost always someone outside playing live music, a food truck offering local Texas fare, a funky souvenir shop/post office/bar that cries out for exploration, and let's not forget the roosters and kitty cats roaming free around the place. Yes, you can call it a tourist spot...but it's got that genuine charm that keeps me coming back. Stop by for a spell and either kick back with a cold beer, or come in for an evening of great music and dancing. Either way, you'll feel deep in the heart of Texas here.

Kasventures S.

Yelp
A must visit if you're visiting Fredericksburg. This place is definite a must stop, specially if you are a fan of old western, country atmosphere. You get some amazing photos here and if you're lucky, you get to listen to a live band perform if you are there at the right time.

Awkward F.

Yelp
Theres always music playing in the Luckenbach loop. Sweet store managers, friendly people all around. The drink counter has a good variety of booze including some house half-bottle wines. Theres a beautiful, giant tree past the pretty lil' bridge in the back and thats usually the spot where people get married. One of my favourite places overall. Gotta pet Rusty the rooster when you get there

Mikhael W.

Yelp
I was visiting Fredricksburg for work when a co-worker wanted to change it up a bit and head to Luckenbach Texas. "A place I normally wouldn't be caught dead in" is what the old, closed minded, Mikhael would've said but it turned out to be a down home country bar/store that made a fast paced city girl like me really appreciate the different music and cultures around the great State of Texas! The bartender was a sweetheart and complimented me on everything I believe I was wearing that night as he served up the cold ones. There were 2 live performers singin' of troubled relationships and heavy drinkin' that made the whole experience feel like a Johnny Cash song....and I absolutely loved it! Not, very crowded that cold October night, no more than about 20 people but it sure didn't take away from having a good time. There was a food stand in the back that I decided to check out. The name of this establishment doesn't come to me, but there was only one employee working. He didn't have a very good attitude but the food made up for it I guess. There was no salad, vegetable, semi-healthy choice on the menu, so I did the best I could. I ordered the fish tacos. The whole meal was fresh and filling...2 important things I have to have when it comes to my food! My dinner consisted of 2 beer battered catfish tacos topped with lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado dressing, stuffed inside 2 corn tortillas and finished with sriracha sauce. Superb! Other than my co-worker in front of us hitting a deer on the way back to our hotel, the trip wasn't half bad and I'm glad to cross this off of my bucket list. Thank you Luckenbach for showing this gal an interesting, but fun time!

Rumit P.

Yelp
Population: 3! On our tour bus ride back to downtown San Antonio from the LBJ Ranch, we reached a majority vote among the passengers to stop by Luckenbach, a spot that the bus driver indicated was either fully hated or fully loved by those who visited. I'm somewhere down the middle. We spent about 20 minutes there. There's not much to it, though. There's a building with restrooms; an old-timey kissing booth where my friend and I posed for a photo; gorgeous, thick-trunked trees with sprawling branches (I wish I knew what kind of trees they were); a stage where a wig-wearing, costume-wearing troupe was performing covers of famous tunes of yesteryear; a now-defunct post office; a gift shop; and a general store that sells beer. The general store has free-range cats! There are picnic benches for visitors to sit and eat and drink as well. No cell phone reception! I had to check in for my flight but couldn't.

Joby M.

Yelp
Always great! If you think Luckenbach Texas is anything less than 5 stars you probably think Luke Bryan is Texas country. Take your white claw drankin tail to the beach! Haha

Karla D.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this little piece of Texas music history. A cute little country area sort of between small towns. It's more like a large farm or land used for a fair or something of the sorts. There's an old post office that doubles as a gift shop and small saloon with live music. We were here during the Houston hurricane which caused the area to get a lot of heavy rain. Because of this there were no food options and performances were cancelled as well as some of the few shops being closed. However, the saloon was busy with folks like us having a beer and listening to live acoustic music provided by locals. It was a relaxing and enjoyable experience at that watering hole. Despite the bad weather and smaller crowds I was very happy with our visit and enjoyed that it wasn't overrun with other tourists. Can't wait to get back.

Cindy K.

Yelp
On my second visit, I came at 11:30am on a Sunday, so before any live music was going on. I enjoyed getting their curly fries because they fry them extra crispy with a slight burnt end taste. On this visit, we tried the curly fries with cheese sauce and pulled pork and a friend got the curly fries with cheese sauce and brisket. My pulled pork version was pretty tasty, but my friend's brisket version looked and tasted better. I would recommend the brisket curly fries as a first option, but both pork and brisket version are priced at $11. Tip: When they serve the curly fries, they tend to not be seasoned. I would add a good amount at the concession window. Read my previous review for more tips.

Bryan S.

Yelp
We went in the middle of the afternoon on a Friday - not much going on. The music was mediocre, but I can see that is might really be fun after dark with a good band.

Jeanie B.

Yelp
Cute little spot to pick up some Luckenbach gear. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

PJ C.

Yelp
Wish we had more time to hang out here since it looks like it would have been a fun time especially given the band that was about to play on this lovely Sunday afternoon. Lots of character and characters here - though this place was pretty touristy. I could see that it could get pretty crazy busy.

Nicole W.

Yelp
Very small area, not a whole lot too look at. Kinda boring! They have a few shops, and 1 bar. Other then tht there isn't much. We were there for literally 30 minutes and left.
