Lucky's Books & Comics

I come here with my group of Asian friends around 3 times a week and each and every staff member we’ve spoken to shows so much kindness and personality. We are always extremely satisfied with pricing and overall customer service and we’re extremely proud to be “regulars” here.

This was such a cute place! Very open layout and great selection. They sell manga, (local) zines, handmade booklets, books, comics and more! I asked for help there, the cashiers were super friendly and we had a lively chat about a book I read. Definitely going back there every time I‘m in town! 📖

Absolutely love this place. I’m really into reading graphic novels and this place has such a fantastic selection. They always have a little exhibition on which is lovely, and they have a zines section!

Favourite book store in Vancouver. They carry so many niche graphic novels that have been on my reading lists for years. Their support of local artists by promoting them on zine shelves, highlighted areas + the small exhibiting gallery walls is wonderful to see. Always worth the stop.

There's no question – if you love books, you'll love Lucky's. There's an obvious passion invested in the selection of every title, and the open layout makes it easy to spend ages just meandering about looking for the right title to bring home. Their collection is widely varied, with an emphasis on independent titles, graphic novels, alternative, and so many magnificent books for kids that made me wish I had one to read to. Again, if you love books please do yourself a favour and pop in – it's impossible not to fall in love with this little gem, or yearn for a lazy afternoon spent doing nothing but perusing its shelves.

A great selection of comics and graphic novels for different ages. I like how the space is slightly separated by a small gallery between the children’s section and the adult section. Zines and graphic novels that are more alternative or literary can also be found here. A lovely place to visit!

This is a real gem for graphic novel lovers and books from all over the world too! I was very surprised to find Elio Vittorini and Jhumpa Lahiri on their shelves. It's really an eclectic book store!

Great place for literary books, comics, manga and a well stocked kid’s book section too! And there’s a gallery space. An all around amazing place.

Cute bookstore! Lots of books and I like the diversity from comics, children's, and adult's in the back. When I went, there was a special comic display by a local Vancouver artist which was very neat. The prices were average for a bookstore.

Love at first sight with this store - I was walking towards Heritage Hall after having lunch with fam today and came across this store. It recently moved to this location at 16th and Main (~2 months) there are two rooms, with the front room for little kids and the back room for big kids I picked up two books for my toddler nephew and will be back for more. It's a comfy space with two chairs to cozy up for a quick (or longer?) read and on the first rainy of the season, I'm sure I'll be back soon!

I'd been wanting to check out Lucky's for awhile and finally got the chance to do so during a recent trip to Vancouver. This place was a true gem- I picked up a tote bag and a zine for myself and a friend, but really could've spent so much money if I wasn't careful lol. I also had two quarters on hand and was able to get a little chapbook by Hiller Goodspeed (an artist I love who happens to collaborate with Lucky's sometimes, judging by social media) from the vending machine :)

A unique indie comic book shop/book store/local zine shop that has something for everyone, but might take some time an effort to find it. I was spending my day walking up Main Street on my PNW trip and after hitting Giving Gifts, my actual goal was to visit Lucky's. Inside I was greeted by the clerk and decided to take a look around before committing to anything. The main room is an O with books along all the walls and a table with more books in the middle. While not wholly organized, you can find trade paper backs, manga, art books, kid books, and a whole lot more. The register has some Magic: the Gathering and Pokemon packs, tees, and totes for sale as well. At this point I struck up a conversation with the clerk and as I asked about something unique to Vancouver, he lead me to the back room which was full of local zines, some recent, some a few years old. He then gave me a great run down on the local zine scene, with some artists being his friends, others well known in the area, and some up and coming. A few zines were definitely not for my tastes, but I picked up 3 unique books to bring back to the Bay. After paying, I had some change and saw one of the vending machines by the door. One was by a local zine artist with a mix of art and toys. I put some change in and got "This Book" which alone was a nice takeaway from the stop here. If looking for something unique, something for your kids, or something out there, I can highly recommend this place. Worth checking out for art and comic fans of all types.

This sweet, little comic book shop is totally in line with the Main Street vibe: very current, very local, funky, unique & an excellent selection. A very cool book by Marcel Dzama in the window sucked me into Lucky's...it looks so tiny from the front that I almost didn't go in. That would have been a mistake - they have an outstanding collection of Indy and alternative books & comics! As you pass through the front room, there's a small space jammed with zines, sale items and more local publications...pass through to the back and - WOW - there's a small gallery. On my visit it was featuring panels by a bunch of local artists who had just released a new book. Very, very cool. If you love comics & are doing the Main Street Stroll, this is an excellent stop. Out of towners - Lucky's card machine would not take my debit card. The owner said that US cards are always a problem for them. So, if you think you might buy, try to be prepared with ca$h!

Lucky's comic book and trading card selection are great for dorks, and people interested in how to be more dorky. Specifically, their store is small enough that the staff and owners know something about everything on the shelf, and still large enough that you'll find something new when you're inside. They've also done a great job of putting on free community shows and recently had one of the best informal bbq's I've been to in a long while. In addition to the print subscriptions they stock, Lucky's also releases a weekly magazine, "Dunk" that has some great articles from locals artists and musicians. This publication also includes an amateur comic panel that fills in a giant page and provides both a lot of entertainment and brow furrowing. For such a small space, their shows are very inclusive of the community and generally don't get too rowdy. All ages performance, sort of. Just don't expect to start a mosh pit

Out of all the other retailers offering similar product, Lucky's is one of the best. A humble sized store with knowledgeable, laidback and friendly staff. Merch includes a range of comics/graphic novels/zines/miscellaneous from local and independant to high-end/well known. They have fun openings and events every now and then. A great opportunity to socialize with fellow artists/nerds!

When you walk into Lucky's, it's important that you walk directly to the back of the store without looking left or right. Otherwise, you'll end up blowing your book budget before you get the door closed. Their buying policy is superlative; the trick is to find a book in there which you don't want to buy and give a good home. Excellent stuff for kids too, including the infamous Hip-Hop Gangsta colouring book. Props to them for including a gallery in their small space, as well!

While it says Lucky's Comics on the sign, this is not really a comic shop. It's a great tiny shop filled with art books and alternative comics, but if you're coming to find anything else you're probably out of luck. They just don't have room to have a comprehensive selection of single issue comics -- or a wide variety of trade paperbacks either, for that matter. It's a graphic novel/art book/artist book type of place, but it does that really well. They've got a cute little gallery in the back room and have events and readings fairly regularly. Worth a stop if you're in the neighbourhood!

This is a nice little shop tucked inconspicuously between other shops on Main. It offers a good selection of comic books, zines, children's books and various other books (namely, "The Big Bad Book of Bill Murray"). It's a good spot to check out if you want to expand your reading into the comic book or quirky genre. I especially love the yellow store front, just coz it's different from everything else. Who wants normal?

When I'm showing friends around Vancouver, I start with a stroll down Main Street and we start at Lucky's. The term 'comics' outside may be misleading; you might be thinking manga or nerdy boys reading anime. While they have both, Lucky's excels at curating the graphic and visual printed matter widely speaking. So you'll find cartoonists like Peter Bagge and Canada's own Kate Beaton, yes, but you'll also find illustrated versions of Michael Pollan and local interest pieces by Douglas Copeland and Charlie Demers. The staff have a penchant for the obscure and are great at recommendations to help sift through the store's massive collection (packed, mind you, in to what might be described as a New York apartment--teensy). Way more than a 'comic' shop, Lucky's is for the creative and curious. Mount Pleasant tip: Buy a book here, and wrap it in paper from the Regional Assembly of Text two doors down.

Vancouver's a Lucky town to have such an amazingly tiny, but jam-packed full with graphic goodness, niche shop such as this. Bursting at the proverbial seams with work by local and Canadian artists, leaving a bit of room at the back for exhibitions and talks, plus a small selection of music scattered throughout, they've really got my heart-strings pulled at this place. A zero-pretense comic store; a must-stop when gift-shopping for the cooler people in my life, Lucky's is a strange ode to my 90s youth, minus the baggy corduroy overalls. (don't judge)

In honor of finally getting caught up on my Fables reading, I give you The Goldilocks Trifecta of Comic Book Store Reviews: This chair is too small! Lucky's Comics I want to love you, I really do. You're a comic book store within walking distance from my house which ticks off a major to-do item from my childhood so trust me when I say, I really REALLY wanted to make googly eyes with your insides but alas, this chair is just too darn small. I'm not luke warm on Lucky's Comics because of their diminutive size. At a modest 5'2'' myself, I know that good things do indeed come in small packages but after my last few trips to this main street emporium, it was their selection I found to be seriously lacking. Now don't get me wrong, should you be looking for a quirky gift for that hard to please hipster or a trinket for the bookworm in your social circle (they have an impressive array of excellent fiction) - this places is aces. They carry a good selection of witty little knickknacks and independent/local graphic novels/art books. But if you are seeking the quintessential neighborhood comic book cave then my ducks, you will be out of luck. Case in point - the last time I was in they were out of all five of the titles I was seeking, three of which (Y The Last Man, Walking Dead, Fables) are pretty much staples in contemporary graphic novel 101. And good luck to you if you happen to be looking for a particular edition of Ultimate Avengers - not only is their classic comic line up shockingly slim, this is perhaps the only time i've actually felt judged for being a superheroine geek WHILE IN a comic shop. It's a perplexing feeling. So although I will continue to pop in to browse their fiction section or when I need a trinket for my local art aficionado, for my comic fix i'll begrudgingly lace up my big girl heels and extend my trek elsewhere.

I was really excited to come here. I love comic book stores. But then- IT HAPPENED I entered the store, to be greeted well not even greeted to be stared at by someone I can only describe as. Hipster who looks like a walrus. I have never seen someone look SO BORED in a comic book store. They basically just started at me then entire time I was in the shop. Like your a girl and why are you even here? This is waay to underground for you and you'll like never understand it. Or at least that's what I felt him saying as I was stared at during my ENTIRE TIME in the store. I've never had this problem in Vancouver at comic book stores till now. Usually they are super welcoming, and eager to help, and well enthusiastic.. The guy looked like he didn't want to be there whats so ever. It's hard for me to enjoy your workplace if you don't seem to enjoy your own job :/, and if you stare at me... I disagree with peoples comments that this isn't a comic book store though. It very much is a comic store. It has a very small but, quality selection well, except for those copies of Naruto but I guess that's why they are at the back. The also have more academic things relating to comics, rare zines, as well as a few illustration books, and illustrated novella. They have hard to find good manga that is put out from small companies. Black Jack , The Push Men, etc...They even had things I haven't seen before. French comics, graphic novels, manga, zines,and even super hero comics (they are the back with Naruto) this place has a really good selection (except Naruto) This place is a little expensive but if you looking for something rare this place is your best bet.

If there's a book I want, and there are pictures in it, I'm going to Lucky's to buy it. The place is fantastically stocked (plenty of offerings from McSweeny's and OTSU) with books, graphic novels, funnybooks, collections, and vancouver-focused odds and ends. An instant gift solution and an all around great independent bookstore.

My favourite comic book shop in Vancouver. I don't have much to add that hasn't been said already. Probably not the kind of place to go if you're looking for x-men comics, but great if your taste runs more to the D&Q/ Fantagraphics side of things.

It seems like Lucky's has a pretty good cult following so I don't mean to offend anyone but I wasn't impressed. This is a tiny little shop and personally I found it a little pointless. I came here during a walk just to see what they had and the place was very bare. Not a lot to choose from and the books were scattered everywhere. Maybe I came during a bad time or right after a tornado flew through the place but it just came off as more of a second or third hand shop than anything else.

Lucky's is an awesome spot for comics in the city! Huge selection of zines and other small run stuff, has good stock of work by local/Canadian folks. Not much in the way of your DC/Marvel superhero type of, so be aware of that. But if you're looking for cool comix/graphic novels/zines/etc, Lucky's is the spot.

A truly special place to find literary gems. Great work, Lucky's!
