Lucky Bean Guesthouse is a lovely property in the suburbs of Johannesburg. The neighborhood is safe and traveling there to/from via Uber is easy and can be done at any hour. Natasha and Conway, the owners, are welcoming and very chill. They can recommend day tours for you. I signed up for a Sowetu tour led by Cecilia Mlangeri, who was born in and stills lives in the township and I had a memorable experience. I highly recommend!

We had a delightful stay at Lucky Bean for two short nights. As first time visitors to South Africa, we were grateful for the hospitality of Conway and Natasha, who provided excellent advice as to where to go and what to do, as well as clear instructions about safety, which was very helpful and reassuring. ||||They arranged our airport transfers with Derek and a 5 hour tour of Soweto with the knowledgeable and kind Cecilia. The tour was one of the most memorable of our travels - an unforgettable experience.||||Visiting in winter, we didn’t get to use the pool, but did enjoy the afternoon sun on the terrace reading a book and enjoying a glass of wine. The breakfasts, cooked by the smiling Precious and Juliet, were delicious.

Awesome place with wonderful hosts. We highly recommend to everyone. You have to Uber to go to pretty much anywhere like shops and restaurants but it's very cheap and very efficient. Delicious breakfast prepared by the lovely and smily staff 😋😋

We spent the first three nights of a trip through South Africa in the Lucky Bean Guesthouse with our two teenage sons. It was a wonderful, peaceful start to the trip. The rooms are lovely, and the staff is incredibly kind and fantastic. We also enjoyed an impressive tour through Soweto with Cecilia Mlangeni from Fankomo Tours (see the Lucky Bean website), who showed us different sides of and stories about Soweto. We liked that we really met different people during the tour. The Lucky Bean also arranged dinner for us at Sanza's Yeoville Diner Club. A true highlight of our trip! Thanks again Conway & Natasha! Also for the safekeeping of the lost little whale ;-)

We stayed as a family, 2 adults and 3 children. First night of our stay in South Africa. Our two hosts were very attentive and available despite our delay and arrival in the middle of the night. The place is located as close as possible to the airport. Very easy to access. The welcome from the staff is charming. We felt at home there. I highly recommend it.

The Lucky Bean was brilliant! A shelter In a storm. The owners and staff were helpful and could not have done more for me. A very pleasant 3 week stay.|The atmosphere as well was quiet and restful. I enjoyed meeting people from so many countries that found their way there.

The people make the Lucky Bean Guesthouse a wonderful place to stay. Conway was so helpful organising things for us before and during our trip. Our airport taxi pickup by Derrick went smoothly. When we arrived a bit late, we were warmly welcomed, helped to find a great restaurant and shown how to use Uber. Our day trip around Johannesburg with Cecilia was the absolute highlight of our stay. The ladies that served us breakfast were fab too. |Having now seen the impersonal areas of Rosebank and Sandton where most of the main hotels are, I’m so glad that we opted to stay at the Lucky Bean in Melville. It’s a nice, quiet residential area, within walking distance of a great cafe. We were able to feel like a local and always felt safe. |Even though it was winter in SA, the weather was warm and we enjoyed sitting around the pool in sunshine. |For such a lovely experience, it’s excellent value for money.
