"Lucky Penny, South Yarra by Blueboat. Filling the void of the predominantly retail end of Chapel Street, Lucky Penny offers a flavoursome menu, staying true to the belief that good food is homemade. The creative menu offers options for both the health conscious, and those just wanting to get their hands on crispy bacon. Prepared by friendly staff, in a great atmosphere, Lucky Penny is well worth the visit if you’re near the Jam Factory."

Randomly walk in luck penny, of course based on other people's review, we decide to try. Nice services, staff is welcoming, provides good advices on food! Salmon is very fresh! Good presentation as well! Even it is not very big place, but still feel quite spacious, not crowded!! I am not big fan sitting along the street, it is already narrow as it is! Only view is people walking along and cars driving by, it is much better inside, i like simple decor!!

Lucky Penny has been around a few years, I’ve been here several times – usually for coffee with eggs on toast. I don’t think much has changed with the interior, but it still feels new and current. I decided to try something different and have the green eggs and ham. It was a really interesting flavour combination with the ham hock, apple, wasabi peas, hollandaise and snow peas. All in all, it was pretty good and the combinations worked – my only comment (very minor) would be that the ham was a bit wet so getting through that ham was a bit laborious. I’ll stick to the classics in future, but I’ll always be back for the coffee. Consistent as always.

Super friendly service... great coffee (magic and cap). Had the pulled pork benny and a thai red curry soup special. Both were great! Nice modern decor... good tunes and great location.

The food was really delicious, especially the cures salmon and pumpkin chai tea! Service is absolutely fantastic. Loved being there! Plus, they’ve got a wonderful room upstairs that you can hire for your event.

With a simple but charming interior, and manned by wonderful waitstaff who made us felt right at home, I knew that I was in for a treat. Quirkily named, The Corned Supremacy was indeed a supreme dish. The clever use of mulberry compote in a savoury dish added a distinct sweetness and tartness to lift the flavour profile, and the lemon myrtle contribute a zingy taste. Further, the richness of the hollandaise and the meaty corned beef was mellowed down by the pickled cabbage. A great play with flavours throughout. Another dish with a name that was bound to catch my eye was the Peanut Butter Jelly Time. What a divine creation the peanut butter foam was. Creamy yet airy, it was unlike the usual consistency of peanut butter but tasted exactly like peanut butter, maybe even better! The Belgian waffles had a lovely crisped outer layer, but sadly a tad dry inside. A minor inconvenient when the rest of the ingredients marry together so perfectly, creating a dish that was full of flavours and so incredibly decadent. I wasn't a big fan of the fresh berries smoothie, as it merely tasted like strawberry milkshake to me and was missing the tang from the yoghurt which was listed as an ingredient. I swapped this with my partner and happily finished his skinny latte instead, which was the more superior drink.

Super unique menu with a cool twist on lots of classic dishes. I got this Shak this time around and you can see, but will be back to try more of the menu. The Shak was worth recommending and the outdoor area wasn’t huge but I was lucky enough to snag a seat ; ). Follow @brunchordiemelbourne if you’d like more brunch inspo. Thanks Lucky Penny

I really enjoyed the place, service and chai. My husband really enjoyed his meal. I ordered the vegan Bento and on paper it sounded amazing but unfortunately wasn't. The vege broth was very salty along with the pickle and kimchi. 3 very different salty dishes along side cold rice and cold mushrooms. It would have been nice if the mushrooms and rice were warm. The tofu was great and warm but together it just didn't go..... We will be back to try other meals! It's not a write off!

Excellent brunch spot on Chapel Street, a worthy addition to the several million that already line said street. We were late enough on Saturday morning to get a table at the coffee bar. Among the two of us we tried the lucky Vegan and scrambled eggs on toast with grilled halloumi and thick cut bacon on the side. Cooked to perfection and served on excellent sourdough, the breakfast portions are quite large and satisfying. Beetroot juice with Kale ginger and lemon effectively helped vanish the cobwebs from Friday night and we stepped out happy enough, around a reasonable 50 dollars lighter in the pocket.

Yelp
This place is ACE! Chapel street doesn't have much to offer for great breakfasts anymore so I've avoided it for years, but now I know this place exists I might go more often. Menu had great options. Big servings too! If you want to see how beautiful the food is then check out their Instagram. Picture says 1000 words. Service was brilliant and coffee rocked. Ordered the 'lucky vegan'. Best damn breakfast I've had in a while! Thanks guys...

Yelp
Breakfast has become all to cliche now days, especially on chapel street. Smashed avo, cold pressed juices and baristas that take 25 minutes to make a latte with all too much concentration and fanfare. Lucky Penny has some of this but in a refreshing way. There was enough of these elements to be bearable. White painted brick walls, timber details, fresh flowers & a few hipster staff that were very pleasant. Breakfast was good, not amazing but good. The coffee was great and the juice was brilliant. Too many times I find my expectations exceed what is delivered. Lucky penny was a random choice and I was pleasantly surprised. I'll be back.

Yelp
I am a fan of Lucky Penny. I like the Scandinavian décor, the art on the walls, the uber cool staff that are always happy to help and the 5 senses coffee is certainly a plus. I like they have a menu that tends to have a focus on healthy dishes and is seasonal. There quite a substantial menu to choose from and I can only review on the breakfast and I loved the innovative choices. This time I chose the Citrus cured salmon, potato and pea salad, cucumber and herbs with poached eggs, although it was hard to choose between that and the black pudding. I look forward to many more visits to Lucky Penny as it's a refreshing change in the area.

Yelp
I came here for brunch, and it was so busy! Luckily I got a table pretty fast! I ordered poached eggs on toast with a side of smashed avo, and it was delicious! The avo was seasoned perfectly! I also got the fresh pressed orange juice, and it was so refreshing! It was just like biting into an orange! The decor is cute, and my server was so friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Yet to try the food but enjoyed our experience for tea and coffee. Typical filament lights, timber benches, painted brick cafe scenario. Nice and cozy. Synesso & five senses. Will come again. X

Yelp
Oh, Lucky Penny, how you've won my heart. Every time I go to the movies at the Jam Factory now, I find myself arriving early so that I can run across the street and get a coffee from Lucky Penny first. Their staff are super friendly, and the coffee isn't bad either :) For the LCHF people out there: they can do a long black with pouring cream. Get on it! Yet to try the food, but it is certainly on the list now.

Yelp
Bustling cafe right in the heart of Chapel St. The place was busy for a cold and wet Sunday morning, but didn't have to wait long to be seated. Staff were friendly and service was prompt. The food was pretty good, came out warm, I liked the chipotle flavour in the hollandaise sauce, a nice twist to an old favourite.

Yelp
There is nothing more Melbourne than a shabby chic brunch spot, complete with bearded waitstaff, avo on toast, and a creamy flat white. I don't know if Lucky Penny was aiming for quintessential when they opened just a couple months ago, but they've nailed it. White brick, wood, fresh flowers. This cafe may be a long and narrow space tucked into a row of shoe shops on Chapel, but it's a breath of fresh air to the area. Grab one of the few outdoor tables and people watch, or sit inside by the painted faux fire. I've visited a couple times now and have been really impressed with the staff, atmosphere, and coffee. The menu boasts a solid selection of breakfast and lunch choices without being overwhelming. I always seem to be torn between options that all sound too good! While I haven't been blown away by the yum factor of any of the dishes I've tried, there have definitely been no complaints either. Lucky Penny is a gorgeous addition to an area lacking in brunch spots, and yes, likely to become a local staple for me.

Yelp
By far the best place for Sunday brunch on Chapel Street with some stunning food on the menu.
