There is nothing more Melbourne than a shabby chic brunch spot, complete with bearded waitstaff, avo on toast, and a creamy flat white. I don't know if Lucky Penny was aiming for quintessential when they opened just a couple months ago, but they've nailed it.
White brick, wood, fresh flowers. This cafe may be a long and narrow space tucked into a row of shoe shops on Chapel, but it's a breath of fresh air to the area. Grab one of the few outdoor tables and people watch, or sit inside by the painted faux fire.
I've visited a couple times now and have been really impressed with the staff, atmosphere, and coffee. The menu boasts a solid selection of breakfast and lunch choices without being overwhelming. I always seem to be torn between options that all sound too good! While I haven't been blown away by the yum factor of any of the dishes I've tried, there have definitely been no complaints either. Lucky Penny is a gorgeous addition to an area lacking in brunch spots, and yes, likely to become a local staple for me.
