In any restaurant business, customer service shines not when things go smoothly, but when unexpected challenges arise--and how employees handle them is critical. I recently encountered such a situation at Pin & Pint Bowling Lounge in Los Angeles, and I have to say, I was incredibly impressed by their team.
I hosted a small birthday party for my colleague at Pin & Pint. I booked two lanes for about 11 people for three hours, along with a pre-set catering package. Within the first 45 minutes, we began to have problems with the ball return mechanism on one of our lanes--balls got stuck midway through the lane, and even a few frames didn't register our score. Meanwhile, the kitchen seemed overwhelmed, with some appetizers coming out cold and a few drinks taking more than 30 minutes to arrive.
To be honest, I was frustrated at first. I chose this restaurant based on its rave reviews and was worried that tonight's experience would be a bad one. At this point, Alicia, the floor manager on duty, walked in. She genuinely walked over to our table, apologized profusely, and took immediate action. She sent a technician to fix our tunnel and personally re-ordered our food and drinks. She even sent our group a round of free cocktails as a goodwill gesture.
When the tunnel couldn't be fully fixed in a reasonable amount of time, Alicia didn't hesitate to upgrade us to a VIP suite, extend our reservation for free, and send us a few "made-in-house" appetizers. She kept checking in with us throughout the evening to make sure everything was back in working order and that we had a great dining experience.
By the end of the night, what could have been a disappointing experience turned into one of the most memorable nights we've had in a long time. The attention to detail, professionalism, and genuine care from Alicia and her team was amazing. It's rare to see such dedicated customer service these days, and this just made all the difference.
In addition to the excellent service recovery, the bowling alley itself was clean, modern, and stylish. The music playlist was great, the cocktail menu was unexpectedly creative for a bowling alley, and their garlic truffle fries? Perfect.
I would happily recommend Pin & Pint Bowling Lounge to anyone looking for a fun, social place with a team that really knows how to turn things around and make their guests feel valued. I will definitely be back - and next time, I will ask for Alicia by name.
10/10 experience, not because everything went well, but because when things didn't go well, they handled it like a pro.
