"Lucky's Delicatessen, Downtown Durham. We've never tried something from Lucky's we didn't love, even the chopped liver. The closest thing to a New York Deli in Durham, Lucky’s Delicatessenis a go-to spot for handcrafted sandwiches and deli classics like a good bowl of matzo ball soup, a reuben sandwich, or a chicken parm hero.Wash it all down with a bottle of local craft soda while you take in the light atmosphere and modern retro feel. Part of a family of restaurants at the heart of downtown, Lucky's is owned by the same proprietor as Mateo Bar deTapas and Mothers and Sons Trattoria."
This visit to Lucky's was my second visit and I thought that while the bread had always been good the eggplant parm was undercooked but the sauce was tasty and the pickles are really good. Today the chicken parm was excellent as was the roast pork sandwich. Also enjoyed the Mediterranean plate as the falafel was tasty as was the hummus, baba ghanouj was ok and the olives and pickles were terrific. Good crazy beer selection from both local and outside breweries. Order at the register and they give you a number and bring the food to you. If you are getting something to drink from the fridge in the back, get it first then order at the register. They also will have specials during the week.

Cleanliness. 5/5. Tables were wiped down and cleaned seconds after customers left.
Quality. 5/5. Incredible quality meats and cheese.
Service. 5/5. Workers are moving. Cooks sweating and the head cook keeping track of orders in a tight, hectic environment.
Price. 3/5. Small drink, bag of chips and a sandwhich. $16 dollars? I can agree the meal was incredible. But the price was outrageous (in a bad way). While I might come back someday in the future, I wish I could AFFORD to come here more than once a month.

I don’t even like cold sandwiches and I’m already dreaming of the next thing I’d order after going here tonight.
We ordered: shrimp po boy & turkey sandwich with voodoo chips (a must if you’ve never had them!)
Love the simplicity and the out of this world tastes from something as humble as a sandwich.

I was blown away by this place. The staff is super friendly and the sandwiches don't skimp on quality nor on the amount of meat piled on these bad boys. Nice touch adding some pickled finger foods as a free palate cleanser to boot. This place is solid albeit a bit pricey. If you're into northeastern style delis then you need to come here regularly.

Great lunch spot! Came in for lunch with my husband and son. I got a Turkey sandwich with matzah ball soup and hubby got the tuna melt with the matzah ball soup and we were both throughly impressed. The icing on the cake was everyone's smiling faces! We will definitely be back and you should go too!

Always the best! Super Ruben and the smoked Turkey are two favorites we always have to get. Pair them with two 23oz Dale's pale ale for $5 and you've got a nice date lunch!
