On the Grid : Lucy Ethiopian Restaurant & Lounge

"As Yelp reviewers attest, the Lucy staff are very friendly and attentive. There's a totally relaxed vibe here, especially when sitting in the lounge area with low tables and sofas. Our waiter brought us a glass of honey wine to get us started and was eager to educate about the menu. We ordered Quanta Fitfit, dehydrated beef mixed with spongy pieces of Injera (flatbread made of Teff Flour) which is a savory, chewy Ethiopian comfort dish; and Yedoro Watt, chicken served in a clay pot with a mild chili bbq sauce and an egg, is hearty and rich, like mole. The coffee ceremony is a MUST. We suggest ordering upon arrival, so the service can be phased throughout your meal. Green (unroasted) coffee beans are browned in a small pan, ground by hand, then boiled in a clay pot called a Jebena. As incense burns the attendant slowly pours small cups of strong yet mellow coffee. We were delighted when the chef and other staff members stopped by to chat and share the pot with us." - ph Design Shop

Nice place to be. Had a good time to spend with friends. Nice sitting areas. They take time for your order because they make fresh food. We had vegetarian options. Pretty much enough platter for 2 people. Kids had a great time as well. Colorful but little old interior. Overall it was good. Friends had their anniversary so they gave complimentary Tiramisu dessert. It was really delicious.

Google
The food was good and I was satisfied. The atmosphere is so amazing to the point you could get lost in time just enjoying the ambiance! And last but not least, the service was superb, which consisted of smiles, patience, and explanation of the menu. If you are in the Houston area, then I definitely recommend you come here and experience this for yourself!

Google
First time eating Ethiopian food and I loved it. They make this bread thing out of Teff grain. It’s the best gluten free food I’ve ever had. Taste like sourdough. I enjoyed the ambience, the service, and mostly the flavor of the food. I’m looking forward to my next visit. Just ask for the most popular order. That’s what we did, great appetizer and awesome entree. The thing rolled out is the bread. Soft texture to it. I actually ordered some to go. Sambusa! Was the appetizer.

It was my first time experiencing Lucy's Ethiopian cuisine, and I was delightfully surprised by the exceptional quality of the food and the warm hospitality. The hostess offered a welcoming and helpful hand as we placed our order. We began with the eggplant dip and chicken wings; I highly recommend the eggplant dip. For my main course, I selected the grilled chicken Tibs, which was served with a salad and rice. My companion chose the Cottel, also accompanied by a salad and rice. The two waitresses were kind and provided attentive service. The owner even joined us to inquire about our dining experience, sharing some background about the restaurant and her origins. She also kindly invited us to have our photos taken in traditional clothing. We felt truly honored and well-cared for.

Came here on an invite from friends and loved it! I think this used to be a Golden Corral but now it's 2 separate restaurants, one Ethiopian cuisine and the other Mediterranean. The atmosphere and decor on the place was very inviting and so it was a good start! They were setting up for a party later so they were quite busy, but very attentive. The food was delicious and the menu even gives definitions of you are unfamiliar. We ordered sambusas, komen wot, and Ethi pasta. All were perfectly prepared and the tastes matched is prep. The portion size was generous but not too much. We will be back for sure. The service was good with alternating servers making sure we were always attended to. Everyone there cares about the experience so all good there.

Google
Lucy’s was my first taste of Ethiopian cuisine and it was absolutely delicious. The lentil pastries and wings were flavorful. The coffee was robust and earthy. My table opted to get the platter and this was also a hit. Everything was well seasoned. Here are the only issues I have. It’s a bit challenging to find this spot. It’s immediately to the right as you exit the freeway. It would be really helpful if there was better and more visible signs. The service was slooooooow even though the place was not busy. The waitress was doing the least in terms of paying attention to us. I’d still recommend a visit - totally worth it.

Google
I finally tried Ethiopian food and was not disappointed. The hostess was very welcoming and helpful when we ordered. We started off with Sambusa, Roasted Red Bell Pepper Hummus and Spicy Red Chilli Wings. I tried the Yedoro Wot very delicious but did have to order a Mango Juice to help with the spicyness, my daughter ordered the Shiro and my friend ordered the Chicken Tibs. The food came with a salad, rice and injera. The owner came out to see how we liked the food. So glad I watched a tik tok video about this place because he was so correct about how good the food was.

Google
One of the best Ethiopian places in town. The injira was so fluffy and sour. The vege platter is really well spiced and delectable. Beef tibs were absolutely scrumptious. The star of the show was the whole fried fish.

Yelp
I still love this place. There some kind of crack in their food. It's so addictive and yummy! They have large portions that make it meant for sharing but come on let's be serious. You're not gonna wanna always share. Lol It's very clean and the overall vibes are so comforting and lax. You feel very welcomed and taken care of. I love that the owner is always there to greet the tables. She's very present in her business.

Yelp
Food: I had the okra wot and it was pretty delicious. The injera was fluffy and warm. My husband had the miser wot and it was a bit watery and under seasoned. Our friends shared the veggie platter and they were pretty pleased. Service: Slow and lazy. We spent a lot of time, sitting around the table looking for our server. And then when I finally went to pay, the server was very aggressively pushing for a tip. Not like they earned it, but I would've tipped anyway because I'm not an A-hole. But that aggressive expectation of a top really turned me off. Ambiance: nothing special. Kinda weird vibe because of how empty it was. I think I'll still order from here via Uber eats or DoorDash but I don't think I'll be coming back to dine here.

Yelp
Went to Lucy's after a really long time and we enjoyed every moment and every bite. Ordered the 8 combo vegetarian platter. Food was warm, injera was refilled without asking, the server brought us the berbere powder alongside when we asked for it. The restaurant is nicely decorated, clean, a good bar and we even had Lucy come around to the tables to say hello. Will definitely be a spot for me in Houston for an Ethiopian fix.

Yelp
This place was a really good! We came for dinner around 7pm and it was completely empty inside which seemed strange because the food was absolutely amazing. We ordered a 4 meat sampler as well as the 3 veggie combo and it was enough food for 2 with leftovers as well. It came with salad, rice and injera on the side. I normally don't like injera but Lucy's injera was too good to pass up. It complemented the spicy and savory stewed and grilled meat perfectly with a slightly sour and yeasty flavor. Will definitely come back next time we're in Houston!

Yelp
All I can say is wow. I am so grateful for the opportunity to try food from a new culture to me. Everything was delicious! The teas and tej are a MUST try - 5/5 If it's your first time, I suggest the Gomen Watt - another 5/5! Other delicious dishes I tried include: Rice - 5/5 Lamb TIBS - 5/5 Salad (very fresh AND green veggies) - 5/5 Injera - 5/5 To top it off, the owner Suzani was so welcoming and kind. She checked on us and treated me like royalty. I loved the uniqueness of the restaurant. Beautiful decorations, friendly staff, and it was a very relaxing and quiet time of the day to enjoy my meal with a loved one. HIGHLY recommended. I will be back!

Yelp
Wow my dearest, dearest Lucy!!!! I never stumble out of this establishment feeling anything short of pure bliss and contentment. Food is soooo good and fresh. Service is always pretty spot on and I just love the overall "feels" of the place. It has an intimate, "hole in the wall" vibe to it. I can literally eat here all day, every day and would go out of my way to recommend to anyone looking for some good injera in Houston. *Spoiler Alert* tell them it's your birthday and they'll have a fun surprise for you haha.

Yelp
It had been awhile since I've eaten here and missed it. I ordered my favorite Ethiopian dish being the Doro Wot last night, which was basically their version of chicken curry. Very bold, very delicious and rich dish. The drumsticks were very juicy and soft with good flavor. I am not a fan of hard-boiled eggs at all, but I could handle this one since it was smothered in that scrumptious gravy. The gravy was oily, but full at the same time despite not being creamy. It had a runny, but dense texture and tasted a mix of spicy, bitter and exotic all in one. Very tasty with the chicken, that fresh, soft yellow rice and that oddly addictive injera bread. The injera was moist, soft, sour and prefect for the sauce like the rice. I generally don't care for any plain bread unless it's in bread pudding or donut form, except for sweet cornbread and injera as I mentioned. The iced tea with my meal was unsweetened like black tea, but still very flavorful, refreshing and had somewhat of a passion fruit flavor to it which I love. Great service on this visit.

Yelp
They have good food, but very poor service. I came here with a friend and upon walking inside, it wasn't packed like I thought it would be. It appeared that they had a chaotic waitstaff. The lady at the bar said, "Do you want to sit in the loft?", but then another said to sit in the booth. So, we found a spot in a booth. Initially, I thought the service would be great as a waitress came quickly to our table to bring water. There was a group of young children playing very close to our table. They were pretty loud as they played tag with each other. As the waitress was taking our order, she stopped to tell the children to calm down several times. We ended up ordering the vegetarian platter, two orders of sambas, and I ordered a hot tea that I did not have throughout the whole meal. Our waitress avoided us like the plague. She was terrible. Upon trying to hunt someone down to get our checks, what seemed to be the owner, she visited the table (finally!) and asked how everything was. I truthfully told her and told her that I hadn't even received my hot tea yet. So, to make things worse, she brought out my hot tea, but by that time, I was ready to leave. She then says that the hot tea is on them, well good because I asked for the tea 40 minutes ago at the start of our dining. I hate this Ethiopian restaurant and will not be back. The service was the absolute worst. Also, they should invest in better signage because I drove past this place twice and wondered where it was because the sign was small and the restaurant did not have any curb appeal.

Yelp
Everything went well! Food and service are amazing and the atmosphere is calm. They have a honey wine that is simply delicious!

Yelp
A lovely experience. Our first time eating Ethiopian food but not the last. The owner is a genuine and beautiful human. Cannot recommend enough.

Yelp
I was running errands and had a ridiculous craving for Ethiopian food. Thankfully, I was close by, so I was excited that Lucy could hit the spot. This was a to go order placed over the phone. My server was extremely patient and shared her opinions on sides etc. I ordered the shrimp wot with injera and spicy lentils. The complex has ample parking and clear signs to find Lucy. When I walked in, I was greeted immediately and my food was hot and ready. At home, I was pleased with the portions- it was enough to give me 2.5 meals. I wasn't used to this texture of shrimp wot, but the flavors were lovely. I wish the wot was a bit thicker so that it would be easier to eat with the injera. My spicy lentils did not lie about the heat and I loved it! I look forward to having enough time for a dine-in experience. The restaurant is spacious, and I think I would have a great time enjoying beautiful food from an amazing culture.

Yelp
Been feeling sick ever since eating this food a couple of days ago. Something isn't right. I usually go to Bahel Ethiopian Restaurant in Houston but thought I would give this place a try. I have never felt this way in general or after eating Bahel. Something isn't right here.

Shalonda L.

Yelp
I have visited this restaurant for years and was excited when food could be delivered through UberEats. I've used the service to have food delivered several times. The order is always incorrect. I requested a rare Kitfo, It arrived fully cooked. I asked for injera and they provided me with one piece of injera and the rest rice. The previous order included no sides. I refuse to support this restaurant any longer. After calling the restaurant, the issue is never addressed.

Yelp
A nice but dated place. The food is good, though service can be slow its always friendly. Food flavorful.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem for Ethiopian food. The restaurant is simple yet so cute with the Ethiopian decor. It's a restaurant in front and kind of a lounge in the back. They have a full bar. They have plenty of parking. The service was amazing no complaints on that. The food came out hot and fresh and it taste amazing ! Definitely recommended

Yelp
Going here for the 3rd time in the span of 5 years and wonder why I don't come more. Fantastic service and great food every time. Beautiful ambience and even a piano... wonder if they'll let me play..

Yelp
Habesha food is my all time fave. So when I had a 4 hour layover in Houston on my way to Tulum, Mexico I decided to find an Ethiopian joint. Thank God I found Lucy! Unfortunately there isn't one place in Florida that has Authentic Habesha food... there may be Ethiopians and Eritreans making the food however they make it for American pallets meaning it's not as spicy as a real Habesha meal. Not the case with Lucy. Maybe there is a how was your community here I don't know but I was able to get an authentic experience here!! The food was spicy enough... although they do not make the traditional Ethiopian spread I asked for my food to be served Ethiopian style... on top of the Injera! My neighbor was jealous that I got my food that way but because it was just me eating all that food I shared with him! I regret not stopping back in on my layover back home because my layover was shorter. Perhaps if that happens again I can pre-order my food and take it to go on the plane! Be sure to try the coffee ceremony! Ethiopians are the inventors of coffee and they do coffee right. No need for cream and sugar the coffee is amazingly smooth! The owner came over and greeted us and was very gracious! Highly recommend and can't wait to go back!

Rashan D.

Yelp
Lucy is ok when it comes to Ethiopian food. Bahel is definitely and has better quality, taste, portion size, and price for the same food. The service was good but the restaurant layout was a bit weird and seating was uncomfortable.

Yelp
Compared to the previous time that I ate here which was 3 months ago, I hate to say that the quality in food and service was tremendously worse this time. My first experience was so good that I was really looking forward to going back but mostly everything was disappointing and lacked quality.. from the service to the food. After we sat down, it took awhile for us to be waited on which wasn't a big deal for us considering we knew the food would be good but we were wrong. My partner was looking forward to eating the whole fish that was served before with green beans, rice and salad (as shown in picture in my last review). We requested extra green beans instead of rice but the waitress told us it is only served with rice and salad ... so I guess we just imagined that it was served with green beans the last time... the fish wasn't even as good as last time, it lacked flavor and the fish looked diseased. I was looking forward to eating the shrimp appetizer but when it was brought out to us it looked different from last time.. it seemed like there were fewer shrimp than last time and they were huge, which I personally find to be disgusting and off putting. We tried them and it tasted like they weren't cooked completely so we did not finish the plate. My veggie platter was fine. The best thing about the experience was the honey wine which was very good and a lot stronger than last time. By the time someone came by to ask how our meal was, we were pretty much ready to go. It's just very disappointing to me when I find a restaurant that was amazing at first glance but turns out the experience is not consistent each time. I don't understand how the quality of everything lacked only over a time span of 3 months and I don't see myself ever eating here again.

Lucy S.

Yelp
Very friendly and accommodating staff (especially the lovely Melano)! The food is INCREDIBLE too. The kitfo is perfectly spiced every time. The lounge is very comfortable, too, and they play great music. We always bring large groups here to introduce our friends to Ethiopian food--this restaurant is a great place to try it if you've never had it before! The coffee, tea, mango juice, and honey wine are also delicious here. Plus, they made us feel very special at a celebration tonight, which we really appreciated.

Yelp
One of the most authentic places I've been to recently! As someone who've been to Ethiopia and ate the OG version I'm telling you it's the same! The server is nice but the service is slow (all Ethiopian culture is like that) so it's not a place for a quick meal! You need to sit and enjoy the Ethiopian vibe that the restaurant offers.

Yelp
LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS!!!! Lucy is back there cookinggggg. I'm no expert on Ethiopian food particularly, but I do know good food. And this is GOOD FOOD. UberEats took 2 hours to deliver but it arrived hot and ready. I will be ordering again.

Yelp
Food wise, honestly I did not like it. We started w/ sambusas which was the best thing I had all night; the sauce served was like ketchup w/ chilies and was tasty. We had T'ej (honey wine) & was decent; it's basically mead, something I already enjoy. I got the fish cutelet which is fried tilapia + rice + salad. I enjoyed the fish although it lacked flavor (I'm a seafood fan) and the rice was tasteless. They got the yedoro wot which includes chicken + an egg in some sauce w/ injera. I thought the sauce had a nice flavor but the size of the meat was abysmal; little baby drumstick. I also really didn't like the injera but that could be personal preference. Maybe we didn't get the most flavorful items idk. Ethiopian friend said it tasted like any other food they've tried & was nothing special. Neither of us said we'd return. I didn't get pictures because it honestly wasn't picture worthy but also forgot. This place was recommended to the Ethiopian acquaintance as being the best in Houston, so we went. I'll say aesthetic wise the best vibe was the lounge area they have towards the side, otherwise the inside is a bit drab. The waitress was nice, she was the only one on the floor + behind the bar throughout the night so she seemed slightly harried. I feel a kinda bad writing this based on all the good reviews and apparent reputation but I can't say I'd recommend.

Yvonne K.

Yelp
I ordered food through Uber The wings were not good, I've had better at other wing spots. I expected more of an African approach with the wings seasoning instead I got buffalo sauce. The sambusas were greasy, it said beef or lentil filling, I guess I had no choice they sent lentil ( I prefer beef) The yedoro watt looked good but tasted disappointing, I requested it extra spicy but of course that request was ignored, I've been to the establishment once or twice and I understand why, they don't adhere to special requests typically. The menu also states the sauce comes with a leg and a thigh, as you can see I didn't get that. I won't order from there again. Waste of money.

Yelp
First impressions can be deceiving when it comes to this local family-run Ethiopian joint. The inside can appear a tad run-down, as the décor looks like it hasn't been updated in a while, there are holes in the couches, and it was a little muggy when we walked in. Nonetheless, the service is warm and friendly and the home-style fare is worth the trek. Our waitress insisted that we try some complimentary honey wine and we savored the sweet and sharp taste so much that we ended up buying a couple bottles. Definitely go with a sampler to try as many items as possible, and I would recommend a mixture of veggie and meat options as the vegetarian stuff was some of the best. The platters are naturally served with injera, which (if you haven't tried it before) is a sort of mildly sour stretchy flat bread that is wonderful for soaking up sauces. The lentils and spinach were wonderfully complex and satisfying. The beef and chicken preparations were earthy and spicy with a healthy underlying bitterness. The diversity of flavors and textures was excellent - it's like someone is playing a keyboard on your tongue. At risk of generalizing an entire cuisine through comparison, Ethiopian food has hints of traditional Indian flavors but is of course its own thing entirely with more sourness, earthiness, and a fruitier heat. It's absolutely delicious and Lucy showcases the range well. I was pretty full at the end, so you could reasonably share a platter between two depending on your hunger level.
google avatar

Catherine W.

Yelp
The food is sublime. Service was great. You won't feel rushed here at all. I love the decor, but it was hot. With the weather cooling down I'm sure it will feel much better. The heat in the place is the only reason I'm taking a star away. Coffee service at the end of the meal is a must!

Yelp
I went to Lucy's with a few of my friends as a gathering for my birthday. The staff there took great care of us and brought up the food very quickly. We ordered the veggie platter and the meat/veggie combo platter, which surprisingly was enough to feed most of us for dinner. To cap it off, we ordered the beef ribs, and the meat is the best I've had! So flavorful and soft that it just melts in the mouth. The injera bread that came paired with the platters was also interesting experience. Overall, I enjoyed the meal, and some of my friends who were vegetarians were also given ample options. Oh and don't forget to try the specialty honey wine and their store-made ginger tea while you're there! If you're there for a special occasion, they might also let you dress up and sit on the throne. Thankful for a memorable birthday! Took off half a star because the lighting and AC of the place could be a bit stronger, especially in the Houston summer.
google avatar

Yelp
I went at like 3pm to avoid crowds. I was almost the only one there. Sitting at the bar I started off with some of their honey wine. It's potently sweet and not for everyone but I thought it paired fabulously with all the salty, savory, and spicy dishes I ordered on the sampler. The curried dishes were fantastic and the house dressed little salad helped cut through all the heavy dishes. My favorite was the grilled meat. I won't offend by trying to name everything just look at my pic. The spongy bread was fantastic. Tear off pieces and use it to grab bites of food then eat the whole package!

Yelp
Lucy's is a fairly large establishment, plenty of parking and right off the highway. When you walk in you get a feel like you're in an Ethiopian restaurant. The staff is very nice and you usually get seated very quickly. The server brought our drinks quickly and took our orders. The egg plant dip was 5/5, I definitely recommend. It wasn't spicy just nice dip with fried and baked pita. We tried the sambusas. The texture of the shell was very nice and crispy however the inner filling was a bit disappointing. We shared the combination 8 vege sampler which was really good and plenty of food. The injera is made very well, you can tell that they use plenty of teff and don't cheat you on the amount. The flavor is nice and sour of but not much. The sampler was pretty great too. Everything had a very nice flavor. The only issue that brought the rating to a 3 was that our waitress just disappeared after the food came making it difficult to ask for napkins, water, or ordering more injera to finish our meal. We had to ask someone else for the check. It was weird. I'd recommend going for the food and trying it. Definitely the best Ethiopian place in Houston but I hope you have better service than me.

Yelp
Our family loves Ethiopian food so we have been exploring all the Ethiopian restaurants in Houston. This one is at the very top of the list. Fun setting, great food, good service. Recommend if you like Ethiopian!

Nina G.

Yelp
Our favorite! I grew up in Houston and have since moved out of state- Lucy's is the one restaurant I consistently look forward to visiting every time I'm back in town. The staff is so welcoming and kind, and the food has never disappointed us. Susanni (sp?) is always so lovely and goes out of her way to visit with customers and thank you for visiting the restaurant. It's a typically quiet and large dining space, with a very fun back room with sofa-style seating and a bar. If you enjoy Ethiopian food or are interested in dipping your toes into the cuisine I cannot recommend Lucy enough! If you are vegan/vegetarian you are in for a real treat as well. The 8 piece veggie sampler is our go-to for 2 people!

Yelp
This is hands down the best tasting Ethiopian Food in the HTX Area but I can never go back and that saddens me. The older man, he told me his name was Nigel, who works there is an absolute predator. My 2nd time there, he began asking personal questions about where my husband was and then where my child's father was and then asked if I wanted him. I clearly said no and he still kept pressuring me asking Why and saying he would take me out and buy me everything. I just wanted to enjoy my food. I was completely shocked and disgusted but needed to be safe and cautious as I had my infant child with me, so I remained NICE. He kept coming back to my table telling me all these promising things and not to tell anyone, to keep it between me and him. He was very dillusional. he gave me his number and told me to text him which I never did, but this makes me think of other women he may have done this to! It saddens me! So I've been on a quest to find another Ethiopian spot because I cannot put myself and my daughter at risk of going back.

Yelp
The atmosphere is cozy with great aesthetic. The service was fantastic and generous. And the food is absolutely delicious! I will be back.

Yelp
Food and the enjura wasn't good the enjura was messy like someone didn't finish it and they gave it to use cause they all were pre torn I felt uneasy eating it. I love the Blue Nile and I thought the food and service would be the same :(

Sawyer S.

Yelp
Hands down the best baklava I've ever had! Very sweet and syrupy, which some may not like but I'm all for it! Lamb Girgiro Tibs was overcooked but still very flavorful. Service was a bit short at first but became way friendlier by the end. I loved the sitting section with the low tables, very authentic!

Yelp
I have never eaten Ethiopian food before and I must admit I really loved it. My dish was the lamb, peppers, onions, tomatoes, and jalapeños that came out on a sizzling platter and seasoned to perfection. Our bar tender sparked my interest in a drink by asking what I liked in a spirit and the type of drinks I like, then he worked his magic and brought out a wonderfully fruity drink that I loved. The Injera (bread) was uniquely different from any type of bread I've ever tried, and a perfect compliment to the meat. The atmosphere was quiet and causal, with an artsy decor. This place made our group feel right at home, starting with the bartender, then with the lady we brought out our food. They were so kind in explaining things to us and helping with our food selections. I will be back to try something else next time.

Yelp
I can't speak for the food as I didn't end up staying to eat. The tablecloths were absolutely filthy. It felt very unclean as it was dirty. . It wasn't a restaurant I wanted to order food from as I like cleanliness.

Yelp
I tried this spot out, since I wanted a change of pace from the usual cuisines that I eat. Due to COVID 19, we ordered takeout. But, the pictures of the inside of this restaurant look nice. Since my only other experience with Ethiopian food had been at Blue Nile, I'm not an expert on how authentic the food was at Lucy's. I just knew that the food was delicious. We ordered sambusas as our appetizer. It was crispy on the outside and well spiced on the inside. It really did taste very similar to samosas. It's kind of pricey as an appetizer for just 2 pieces. If they gave us at least 3 sambusas, it would be more reasonable. As for entrees, we ordered their spicy beef tibs and okra stew. I have to say I'm more partial to the beef tibs. If you love okra, though, it's still a delicious dish. The beef tibs delivered in terms of the complexity of flavors, the heat from the chilies, and the overall heartiness. It tasted home cooked and stewed for several hours. I had 2 sprigs of thyme in my entree, which I really tasted throughout this dish. Both entrees went extremely well with their injera bread and rice side dishes. The bread was soft and stretchy. It sopped up the juices from the stews very well. The rice was well seasoned. I don't know what spices were in there. But, it was darn good. They were extremely generous with the portion sizes for both the entrees and sides. We had enough for lunch the next day, and then some. Even though the entrees were also expensive, they were worth it, IMO. I don't think I can eat takeout here all the time because of the steeper prices. But, every now and then, i know I can count on Lucy's to get my Ethiopian food fix. They're slightly closer to me than Blue Nile. So, it's a win win. Come check them out if you want to try a unique and delicious taste experience.

Yelp
An intimate dining experience that you enjoy from the palms of your hands & tips of your fingers. Do not come here expecting to use any utensils, that takes away from the visit. This restaurant has the best Ethiopian food in the Houston area. I came here with my sister on a random Wednesday night, there is a lounge part & a restaurant part too. We sat in the restaurant area with the curtain seating. (Super cute, super intimate for dates). We ordered the meat & veggie combo for our entree & ordered the sambusa for an appetizer. Everything is amazing, and the portions are great for the price. Not many words for y'all, just encouraging a visit to experience the greatness.

Yelp
I just went to this place, although it's not NEW, SEE I really liked it, and you will like it TOO, SEE It made me feel tingly and it made Barbie JUICY In other words, I admit that I LOVE LUCY I had to write this review, it is my DUTY About when I came here for dinner with my BEAUTY The one who wears VS Pink but never GUCCI And she agrees that we both love LUCY After this meal we went to watch a MOVIE During which Barbie kept smacking me with her BOOTY Then we hung out with some girlfriends in their JACUZZI And talked about how much we LOVE LUCY WHAT Wonderful, friendly service and delicious, lavish and expensive food in a dimly-lit, comfortable, gorgeous palatial restaurant right on Hwy 59 with unfortunate hookah smoke. Not to be confused with Loose-y which is one of Bae's nicknames. This is a fancy dining (by my standards) sit-down Ethiopian place and the food is really, really good. If you haven't had good Ethiopian, it may blow you away and change your world. If you have, then you'll get what you expect from top notch delicious Ethiopian food. Service is very friendly as well and they were very complimentary to Barbie and her sexy outfit. They were also complementary, in the sense that they came with her anywhere she went for the next week. Jk. It's a little on the expensive side especially considering there are some really cheap places to get Ethiopian, and I think it's more of a tourist Ethiopian restaurant and a "destination" which is the kind I usually avoid. The same owners have a cheaper spot with similar food not too far away. This one is definitely for the full dining experience and it's more of a two or three dollar sign restaurant and definitely not in the Cheap Eats category. Not to be confused with Loot-y which is the back of my car right now since I robbed (another) bank yesterday. Location is great, right along the Southwest Freeway close to Indiatown and Chinatown and all the towns. The main reason I can't give it a 5 isn't even the price even though it is a little on the high side, but because you can smell hookah in here at any given time which always puts me off my din dins. Hookah is a big deal all over Texas in many Middle Eastern or North African restaurants, and it seems to be the norm. So I'm not blaming this restaurant specifically for that but I'm just saying that especially when I'm paying so much money, that if I can smell smoke it's always going to bother me. I prefer going to the cheaper other location, but it's still a really great place to come and eat and you should give it a try, and it's beloved all over Houston as well. They're thinking of opening a location in Montana (The Big Sky State) too, sharing a building with Diamonds Strip Club. It'll be called Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

Yelp
I went here with my coworkers in the afternoon, and it was my first time to try Ethiopian food. Wow! I loved it so much I went again with my dad. The waitress was friendly and happy to explain the dishes to us. I've enjoyed everything I've ordered here. A great experience!

Yelp
Never had Ethiopian food before so I was excited to try it! When you first step inside, you will notice the Ethiopian decor. There are beautiful drapes and even a special area with seats designed for royalty for patrons to have fun and take pictures. The menu nicely explains each options for those new to the cuisine like myself. We got the beef girgiro tibs and the dinech wot. The beef was full of flavor but a tad on the dry side, and the dinech wot paired well with the inerja. The inerja itself was spongy and a bit bland.

Yelp
Beautiful space. Awful service. Meh food. A huge space (so if you wanna throw a big party...), with great pictures and decor but whether it was a staffing problem (even on a slow night) or lack of training, or just indifference, the server forgot items, ordered the wrong item and neglected us for long stretches. The worst part was the food though. I'm not sure who does the cooking but they have a very ham-fisted way with the spices/seasoning. A little guidance would go a long way.

Yelp
My first experience with Ethiopian food in Houston! I came here with my friends after someone suggested it for dinner, and I am so glad we made a visit here. When we walked in the doors, I think there was a party going on because there were tons of people all dressed up and celebrating. It was definitely an interesting welcome. The hostess took us to a table in the back. It was definitely unique. We had a little lounge table with low chairs. We started off with the eggplant dip, and I must say, it was probably the best I've ever had in my life. The eggplant was just so flavorful and tasty. The soft pita bread complimented it perfectly. We then ordered the meat and veggie platter, which was a conglomeration of a variety of different entrees. The injera (spongy bread) was great for soaking up all the rich and wonderful flavors from the dishes. Overall, I had an awesome experience at this spot! The food was bold and adventurous. The hostess and severs were very pleasant and quick. I can't wait to try all their new dishes in the future!

Yelp
Being a fan of different experiences, and cuisine, Lucy's Houston hit my radar. It's not in the part of town with the fanciest restaurants, but I was excited to enjoy Ethiopian cuisine again! Entering, I was a little thrown off, because the place looked like it had just suffered a huge wind gust, but we decided to dine at the bar, where we learned a huge party had just wrapped up. There aren't enough kind words to express the hospitality of Mary, and Nia, the beautiful ladies who attended us. The guidance through the menu, and sharing a little about themselves was the professional, yet personable way to enjoy a new venue. I decided to order the Meat & Veggie combo to try a bit of everything, excellent decision, because each bite was delicious! The gift of T'ej, homemade Ethiopian honey wine, at the end of the night, and throne photos in the lounge were incredible! Lucy's is a must visit for me while in Houston.

Yelp
Wonderful, Amazing, Great and whatever other adjectives you want to add to describe how delicious this spot was. Parking: Large parking lot that's not scarce for spots Ambiance: Super clean and eclectic environment. Dim lights with nice jazz music playing throughout the restaurant. Furniture is a staple of the Ethiopian culture and you feel like you are submerged in the culture as soon as you walk in. On one side of the bar is regular traditional seating (Americanized). Other side of bar is traditional Ethiopian seating, with couches and hookahs. Bar: Full Bar. While i waited for my food I had the Honey Wine which was amazing and comes in this cute little flask that you sip the wine out of with a straw. Food: OH MY! Fantastic! The flavors in everything is so robust and all the dishes just compliment each other so well. The taste just marinates on your tongue long after finishing your meal. I got the Meat and Veggies Platter to share. Although everything was amazing. My favorites were the Beef Tibs, the chicken with egg, the red lentils, collard greens, and okra. Also got the Samosas which were okay, I ordered takeout so the Samosas may have been better had we ate them there. The Meat and Veggies comes with two beefs, one lamb, and one chicken. The veggies comes with four veggies. All for 38.95 which I thought was very reasonable. Truly enough for 2 people with leftovers. It's very obvious that they take pride in their food and slowly make everything to perfection. You honestly can't go wrong with anything. Bonus: The beautiful owner Suzie greeted me and took my order. She thought I was Ethiopian at first but when I told her it was my second time even eating the food we shared a nice laugh. While I waited for my food she came and checked on me at the bar, and we even talked about her tribe and a little about Ethiopia and where I should visit. I was so touched about the problems going on with her tribe that I even donated to the cause. She was such a beautiful person on the inside and out. This is definitely a "return often", Gem that I will be frequenting often. I'm loving Ethiopian food!

Yelp
Our family tried Ethiopian door for the 1st time. I can say that Lucy Ethiopian Reataurant has a very nice ambiance. They have both meat dishes & vegetarian dishes. I had the 4 meat sampler & my wife had the vegetarian sampler. The staff was very friendly however the service was a little slow. I can also say that everything we ate was Absolutely Delicious!!. If you wanna try something new & different , I would definitely recommend this Reataurant.

Yelp
The food and the vibe here is unmatched! I've never had Ethiopian food before and the staff here made wonderful suggestions. The food was good y'all! If you have the opportunity to eat here, you definitely should. I'm not even sure how I found this place, it's a quick turn off the highway. The honey wine is amazing & they also have hookah! I would definitely go back again for date night or just a night out with friends. They have a regular restaurant section as well as a back lounge.
