Of all of the Asian diasporas, I rarely indulge in Vietnamese cuisine. So I was thrilled for the opportunity to dine in Lucy's Vietnamese.
I stopped in on Thursday, Oct. 12, for lunch and was met with warmth. Mai (I'm unsure if that's the correct spelling) was bright and expressed a lot of pride in Lucy's, speaking glowingly of Lucy's success and food. I was more than ready to sit and eat.
I chose a tofu summer roll as my appetizer; smoked brisket pho for my entree; bottled water to wash it all down. I also ordered a brisket bah mi for the road.
Everything was amazing, but let me tell you, the Pho was the real star of the show. That broth was so flavorful and fragrant. You could totally tell they put a lot of love into making it, letting all those spices and herbs work their magic in there. Mai was nice enough to send me home with a large container of broth to eat with leftovers.
The beef brisket was tender and practically melted in my mouth. I should note that Lucy's did not skimp on the brisket; I estimate I had as about 8 oz of brisket in my bowl. The garnishing plate (jalapenos, culantro, basil, and bean sprouts added a nice textural contrast to the dish. Also, I enjoyed the subtle, pleasant heat from the jalapenos. I like spice!
I did add a bit of hoisin sauce and Sriracha -- while not necessary --they were a welcome bonus. They added a touch of sweetness and spice to my pho.
I highly recommend Lucy's. I will be back at either of its locations.
