How to Explore Ludington, Michigan

"Accessible via the breakwall, the Ludington North Breakwater Light is stunning at both sunrise and sunset, giving the lake completely different moods, and if you head out around 9 a.m. you can watch the historic SS Badger ferry pass by as part of a charming small-town tradition." - Matthew Kepnes

A nice short walk to a pretty interesting lighthouse. Worth the stop if you are nearby.

Ludington North Breakwater Lighthouse is a great piece of Michigan's historic shoreline. The staff is pleasant and informative. It is a short walk out on the pier, close to the beautiful town of Ludington. It is a great place to get a cose view the S.S.Badger go out and/or return from Manitowoc, WI. This is one of our favorite places to go for breathtaking sunsets and to see all of the beautiful boats in the area, Love watching the sailboats going by as the sun is setting in the background over Lake Michigan. Definitely worth a visit for the lighthouse junkie's like myself. Highly Recommend.

We just fished on the pier. Easy entry and plenty of room with a lot of people fishing.

This lighthouse is close to town and provides an excellent walk. In recent weeks the lighthouse has been opened for tours and a climb to the top.

Very spectacular lighthouse in Ludington. There is parking available at the park/beach area in which you can walk the pier out to the lighthouse. I believe it's just slightly less than a half a mile walk. You'll encounter several people fishing along the way. Pretty easy access to get to the lighthouse. There is an $8 fee if you'd like to go inside. It was staffed the day I visited.

Great little experience and worth the cost to climb to the top. Lots of neat history and photos along the way up. Four separate fights to climb with landings at each level. I didn't mind the $8 per adult and $5 per child when you think about helping with conservation and preservation. Military friendly as they gift free entry for the serviceman/veteran. The hike out itself is free and worth it even if you chose to not pay to climb to the top.

Our tour guide for the lighthouse was good! Views were amazing and excellent spots to take pictures. 1/2 mile to walk there, and another 1/2 back to shore, the path is paved for handicapped people, but it does get horizontally smaller as you go along. We were right there when the boats came in for fishing, and inside the lighthouse there is very small and skinny stairs, somewhat difficult to get down. There's a gift shop for people 1st floor, and lighthouse history on the other ones.
