"Often called the “crown jewel” of Michigan’s state parks, Ludington State Park has about twenty-five miles of trails through forests, dunes, and beaches (including stops at Lake Michigan and Hamlin Lake), and offers excellent camping that keeps you close to nature." - Matthew Kepnes
This is by far my favorite State Park to stay at! Is it hard to get reservations? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely! There is so much to do, you'll never be bored. Spend your days walking the miles of beautiful trails; kayak Lost Lake or Lake Michigan; float down or fish the Big Sable river; take a walk to the lighthouse; spend the day at the beach; take in the wildlife while on a bike ride; end you're days with some ice cream from the camp store.

This park was surprising beautiful and diverse. With Lake Michigan’s edge and the entirety of Lake Hamlin within the park, there is a large variety of adventures for all. Hiking miles of trails was on our agenda, and it was filled with diverse scenery, and we added new birds to our life list !

Great beach, with clear water tons of space.
Three volleyball courts.
Accessable walkway from shelter to beach, and beach chairs available.
Bathrooms (no showers) located in the shelter.
The shelter offers a store/cafe in the basement and a small museum upstairs.
Large free parking lot.
You do have to pay to get into the park, although we saw people parking just outside the entrance to the park and walking in (unsure if you have to pay when you walk in vs drive).

Love the beach at this State Park. It's always clean and well manicured. The bathrooms are also clean. (Wish they had hot water in the bathroom, though.) Our family has hiked to the lighthouse on the marked trail and have returned to the parking area via the beach. It's always a lovely walk (except for the time our three year old got soaking wet, when the temp was below 60° and it was windy. He said he was tired and needed to be carried the two miles back to the van 😳.) Highly recommend Ludington State Park!

July 25-28, 2025, hooked with our dogs, watched the sunset. The park is amazing and we hope to go back and try to camp. Lots of trails with shade.

Its a very nice beach, clean and all sand. The Beach house store is closed in the off season. It is also the nesting area the the elusive Piping Plover so if you're a Birder you might find that interesting.

It's got the beach, dunes, old sawmill equipment, a dam, great hiking, a walkable light house and it's been recently updated. It's the most popular state park. The town of Ludington is cool also

Typical Michigan star park. Very clean. Beach was pristine. I took Zeke to the pet friendly part beach and it was a small stretch with the river feeding the lake at the end. Was not busy at all at the end of July. Always enjoy Michigan beaches.
