15 Best Bars in Melbourne | Condé Nast Traveler

"The greeting you receive in the ground-floor lobby, where you’re announced as the elevator is called for you, gives a indication of the elegance to come. During the day, Lui Bar—which is located 55 floors above the city in the CBD—offers views over the Dandenong Ranges in the distance; at night, twinkling lights unfurl in all directions below. It's a sophisticated space, too, with low, comfy seating and a stunning cloudlike chandelier by artist Mikala Dwyer. There's a relatively concise, yet excellent, list of wines, beers, and spirits. The Velvet Rotor Macadamia Martini mixes macadamia fat–washed vodka with vaporized butter; the Vodka Pour Over, meanwhile, features slow-drip blend of Belvedere vodka and single-estate coffee. Come here to treat yourself. There’s the view, the sophisticated room, and the outstanding drinks, all of which add up to a winning package." - Carrie Hutchinson

I just want to share my recent experience — I was at the bar yesterday from about 9:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. When I arrived, the downstairs hostess was very rude and extremely cold. It was really disappointing, especially as it was my first time visiting. But thankfully, I met Nelson — yes, N-E-L-S-O-N — at the bar upstairs. He completely changed my night! He’s full of humor, warm, and genuinely caring. I didn’t expect him to do anything special, but when I mentioned what happened with the rude hostess, he felt very sorry and surprised me with something extra special. Nelson is a fantastic, funny Italian guy who knows how to turn things around and make guests feel welcome and valued. Because of him, I left happy and will definitely come back again — all thanks to Nelson’s amazing service and great sense of humor.

Lui Bar offers one of the best views in Melbourne — the city skyline looks absolutely stunning, especially during the night. The atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, making it the perfect spot for a special night out or a quiet drink with friends. The staff were attentive and professional, adding to the overall experience. Definitely a go-to place for great cocktails and breathtaking views! Highly recommend.

Drinks were decent and the view was just okay. Nothing to rave about. But the overall experience was incredibly disappointing. I booked a table for 8 for my birthday. During the booking process, they asked if it was a special occasion — I clearly marked it as a birthday. We brought a cake, only to be told at the entrance that cakes aren’t allowed inside, and we couldn’t even take it out once brought in. Ridiculous and made no sense. There was absolutely no mention of this restriction during booking — so what’s the point of asking if it’s a special occasion? Despite being the largest group in the venue that night, we received zero table service. The bar has all these “high-class private” rules; you can’t even go down or up in the lift without security assistance because there are no accessible buttons. One of our friends couldn’t get back into the building after moving his car because security wasn’t there. Ended up leaving entirely. The vibe? Just okay. I’ve been to many beautiful bars with better views, friendlier staff, and a much more relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere. We spent over $500 and left frustrated and disappointed. Not sure why people recommend this place. I definitely won’t be coming back. 👎

Situated on the 55th Floor of the Rialto building we discovered the Lui Bar. Seating was perfect, window seats, tub chairs, with a spectacular view. Staff were professional and friendly. We enjoyed a “no waste” cocktail, which was great. Followed by a nice bottle of Pinot Noir 🍷🍷, bar snacks, but the surprise was the chocolate soufflé! OMG was it good! Light and fluffy, one of the best I have had. Five star venue, food, wine and staff. Highly recommend 🙌

Had a fantastic experience at Lui Bar. The service from Nelson was exceptional – friendly, attentive, and made the evening even more enjoyable! The food and drinks were spot on, and the overall atmosphere was amazing and very welcoming. Highly recommend for a great night out. We’ll definitely be back and would trust them with any special occasion ☺️

Extremely good service by bar staff, who were accommodating and treated us beautifully. The cocktails were some of the best I’ve had. The views were breathtaking. You should come here!

Yelp
I am from New York and was visiting this place with several Melbourne-based food bloggers, who were adamant that I could not go home without having experienced Lui Bar and having their chocolate soufflé. Finally, on my last night on the town, we made it, and it did not disappoint. I had the special Old Fashioned as well as the classic, and while very pricey, they were both delicious. I think you can easily get by happily and save on the extra cost with the classic versus their special Old Fashioned, in my opinion; and I am picky about my Old Fashioned drinks and am someone who is a member of a whiskey club back home. I also wish they used smaller ice cubes, because aside from it being very out of proportion to the drink, it was a tad bit of a nuisance to have a massive ice berg-like ice cube hit my face like it was the Titanic. That's simply me splitting hairs, however, as again, the drinks were delicious and extremely well mixed. I split the chickpea fries with everyone, and they were surprisingly delicious, mainly because we didn't know what to expect and were thrilled that they were, indeed, "fries." Very well-seasoned and well-made. I could eat a plate of these myself. That wasn't what we were there for though....amongst 6 of us, we split 3 of the chocolate soufflés and everyone was beyond happy. However, someone decided they wanted to try the donuts as well, and it took one bite for everyone to completely forget about the chocolate soufflé and enter into a blissful mouthgasmic foodie dream. So much so that we ordered a second round, as everyone was exclaiming that these were the best donuts they had ever had and likening them to fluffy, delicious pancakes. The view is amazing as well, and whether you're a local wanting a great night out or a visitor, I do recommend that you put this on your list of places to experience. The food, ambiance and views combined to make this more than worth the visit, though as with many places in Melbourne, expect the price tag to follow suit, as a single chocolate soufflé is $20, to give you an idea. Still worth forming over the money every once in a while!!

Yelp
The views are great at Lui Bar but you may need to wait a while to get seated by the window. Drinks are what you can expect: pricey since you're paying for the view but taste just fine. That said, the service could have been better - not sure if it was an off night but the staff don't rarely check on the tables and we had to flag someone down to pay the bill at the counter when we wanted to leave.

Yelp
Hmmm, yep? Was here with a fkn baddie so that is why there is even 2 stars. But woweeeee you think if you'd spend $350 you'd get some a$$ but apparently not? Fuck me mate (in British accent) these hoes genuinely ain't loyal.:. Cocktails were eh Cheers yep whatever go fuck ur selves

Yelp
I like, I like. Where else could you possibly go and get drinks in what used to be the highest building in Melbourne? Previously known as a lookout floor, the 55th floor now meets you with drinks. They only let in enough people as it would allow to have a seat. Downstairs you wait, when they're ready for you, the elevator will bring you right up. You'll then (if seats aren't available yet) get stationed at one of the standing tables with a menu to peruse over. When you get to your seat, you'll be in awe. Everyone has a low seat, giving everyone a view, obviously the seats near the windows are the best. You can reserve these ones ahead of time. The bar is really exquisite and pretty. They've decanted a lot of their liquors and have them displayed in their crystal holdings on shiny silver trays. Behind the counter, the bartenders are working their magic underneath their personal artsy clouds. What stood out to me was the Macadamia Martini. Strong as it was, it was equally smooth. A taste of macadamia, you really expect this to have that bite at the end, but it's not there. It makes it an easy drink for something that is straight up vodka in a martini glass. It's something made here, and the gizmo that makes it is on the corner of the bar. Their dry-ice infusions look like a science experiment, that'll be saved for if there's a next time. The drinks menu doesn't have prices for their cocktails, which is an easy red flag. You'd think, being at the 55th floor of the Rialto, the higher the floors, the higher the prices. These cocktails came to around $20-$25. I'd return, to celebrate some special occassion or another, with a good cocktail paired with a good view, maybe even throw some snacks in there too.

Yelp
Yes, this place is a bit pretentious and yes, it is overpriced BUT the views are priceless and the service makes you feel like you're worth a million bucks. The decor is fantastic as well. Aside from Eureka Skydeck 88, this is one of the best places I've found in Melbourne with such incredible views. The Lui Bar is great for enjoying a fancy cocktail or craft beer while taking in the views of Melbourne - day or night. Try to come at off peak times - lunch or early evening to beat the crowds! Things I love about this place: -Bar with one of the best views in the city. -Go for lunch - they offer a great lunch special with a rotating menu, including wine & dessert for $39! -Go on and splurge - try the Vodka Pour Over. -Jazz on Sundays is supposed to be pretty awesome and is free entry! -There is a nice observation deck outside for those that like the fresh air. -Make sure to visit the toilets before you leave!

Yelp
Great views. Outstanding wait staff. Their water jugs are made up of melted down wine bottles. And the ceiling on top of the bar is covered in blown up clear plastic bags. Get a view of the city of Melbourne while seated near the window. You are not rushed out despite there being a queue of people downstairs in the waiting area. Plus. :) Cocktails don't have prices on them. No options for a fresh juice or coffee/tea. Minimal food options and quite over priced. Who just wants to eat caviar for $210 or a nutella doughnut for $18?

Yelp
My lil sister graduated from her uni and dragged me here - partly because this place is probably the boujee-est bar/lounge in all Melbourne. You enter, put your name, and wait in this office/apartment lobby (not a comfortable setting actually, it feels like you're waiting on a lobby of a wall street bank, versus The Plaza Hotel, for example). So you sit on this semi-comfortable sofas in bright light (who wants bright light at 11:30 PM on a Saturday night? Ugh!) and wait until the host called your name and then they'll let you wait for the elevator ride up to the lounge. Upon arriving, it's the typical scene - very sleek, modern, all windows showing beautiful Melbourne skyline. In the middle is a medium-sized bar with a fancy contemporary chandelier-like grey lamp. They were packed so we were told to wait on a standing-with-awkward-tiny-table area, but we were given the menu and water so that was not bad. The couple next to us decided to snag a table and quickly the waiter came and told them the seating spots are all already reserved for the guests waiting ahead of us. I guess that's their way to ensure a smooth scheduling system and give everyone fair chance to get a couch. Being impatient me, I asked if we can just sit on the bar and it worked! We got seated rather quickly (for folks insisting on couch, good luck!) and started ordering our drinks. Everything was good - we also ordered some light snacks and HOLY COW their chickpea fries were BOMB! So overall I think the place is nice, definitely a kind of place you would take your date to impress them! Step out on the patio area to check out the gorgeous skyline!

Yelp
Waiters who discreetly advise you that your shirt tag has popped out whilst teaching you about their home-distillation processes deserve a medal, nay a crystal cup engraved with their name...IN GOLD! And it's just all gold and all things shiny at The Lui Bar. The gushing reviews before mine do not adequately capture the level of service, the stunning view and delicious cocktails at this gem of a bar - it really is a place you have to see for yourself. Seated on their super comfy lounges overlooking the sparkling city at night, it's all to easy to have "just one more" time and time again. The wait staff and bartenders know their stuff and are great at finding the perfect drink for you, even when you're not sure what you want. Their leatherwood old fashioned and macadamia martini are great Aussie twists on classics without being kitsch and tasting as amazing as they sound. Prices here are as steep as the elevator ride up, but like Revlon, you (and just about everything aspect of Lui Bar) are worth it.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to go to in Melbourne. I love it! The drinks are terrific, the food is fantastic and the view is the best in the city. If you are visiting Melbourne, put this on your must-do list. The espresso martini is worth the visit. And if you can time it that you are here at sunset, you will get some amazing views!

Yelp
Cocktails from the 55th floor? Why yes, thank you! If it weren't already amazing that this bar exists on the 55th floor of the rialoto, with spectacular views over Melbourne's Bay area, then consider how fabulous it is that Vue De Monde are running the show here. Waiters in waistcoats, groomed to within an inch of their lives, serve you on your very comfortable lounge chair and fuss over you with cocktails and wine in Riedel glassware. Sure, you'll pay a bit for the privilege but this is the kind of place to come when you need to feel special or spoil a guest from overseas. My favourite drink on the menu is the Lola Montez Spider Dance Fizz. Named after an erotic dancer, the mix of fresh raspberry, gin and Moet are fabulous. It's sweet and deceptively more alcoholic than you think. Three of those and I reckon you run risk of channeling Lola herself and doing a strip tease on the table.

Yelp
My bougie roommate LOVES this place. Luckily, she's drop dead gorgeous so we always get a window seat. The view is phenomenal, but it's very clear that appearance makes a difference to how you're treated as I've seen many people request to be seated in a nicer area of the bar only to be turned away (when there are plenty of seats available). Dress up. The few beers and cocktails I've had here have been good, about the quality you'd expect for the price point. They make a decent (strong) G&T. I haven't tried any of there lunch menu as I've only been there at night (which is the way to go, in my opinion, the city view comes alive after dark). A couple of months ago we planned on meeting our dates here. My roommate and I arrived about an hour earlier to grab a bite and some drinks together. It was a Wednesday, Lui closes at midnight. However, they wouldn't allow anyone to come up after 11.15PM. That doesn't really bother me, but just a heads up if you're planning on ending your night here (the listed closing time is a hard out). Overall, phenomenal view with a "high end" atmosphere. If you have friends visiting, it's definitely a sweet spot to take tourists.

Yelp
Standing above the city of Melbourne on the 55th floor and being able to see everywhere on a clear night, you feel like a true rockstar. This is the place to want to relax and enjoy. So of cause I would do that with a martini.. When ordering your martini all you need to do is choose your gin (Aviation Gin) and they bring you out a platter of condiments; orange bitters, vermouth, brine, olives, orange/lemon twist and crushed ice - Your very own do it yourself martini kit. Served in Reidel fine crystal glassware, it is brought to you with table service while you lounge away on an overstuffed ottoman while looking out over the city skyline Now this is not somewhere that you would go if you are after a cheep night, but let me tell you it is worth every cent. Come rock star it up with the cool kids

Yelp
I'm definitely not cool enough for this place, yet it's the first spot that comes to mind when this gal is yearning to feel glam. Posh waiters, an endless skyline, and decadent drinks. Mon dieu! Lui is on level 55 of the Rialto, overlooking Melbourne CBD and harbor in all their glory. You'll need to have an elevator called for you to ascend to the cocktail lounge in the clouds. Needless to say, Lui makes for a great excuse to bust out those heels you never get to wear. Ice is hand carved, and creative cocktails are named after local legends and legions. Try the Lola Montez Spider Dance Fizz and the Macadamia Martini. It might surprise you that drinks can be had for around $20 -- the same as you'd pay at any quality bar in Melbourne. When you've got guests in town, skip Eureka, and see the city from Lui's incredible balconies. Pro Tip: In spite of what you might see on YouTube, parachutes are frowned on here. No, really. http://bit.ly/113Sl14

Yelp
The service was a bit off last time I was here. The cheese plate took three reminders and was served fridge temperature. The cocktail in a packet wasn't opened and we had to ask for a pair of scissors. The refurbishment taking place in the downstairs foyer doesn't add to the ambience. Also, I don't appreciate being patted on the shoulder by staff uninvitedly. Keep your hands to yourself. The view is great, but I guess you could go to any observation deck for that. A glass of flat champagne was offered to me and my guest as an apology. Lift your game Lui bar.

Yelp
Review from a couple of friends at the same party *** The Lui Bar*** ***ARRIVE WITH LOW EXPECTATIONS*** If you want to feel unwelcome, wait forever to be served a drink, and be treated with contempt - then this is the place for you! We went on Sunday afternoon to listen to Jazz, celebrate turning 40 and drink bubbles with discerning friends. What an arduous and disappointing experience. It is a beautiful venue with stunning views. There is so much to want to like. This is a destination. It is a place you seek out for a special occasion and celebration. However, the staff need to revisit elementary training in hospitality, and a reminder about the origins of the word. The customer is not the focus of this establishment. The glamour is there but not the basics of any good bar. It was not just one person or incident. The whole service proposition and culture needs a review. I like the fact that table service is on offer and you can't order at the bar. The downside is, it is very hard to get a drink, if the staff don't come to your table. I am resilient, I tried to turn the experience around, to the disinterest of the staff. We left. If any of my staff - treated my customers the way we were treated here - they would all be getting a written warning. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere that wants your business and will go out of their way to make sure you have a good time. Avoid #Shannonbennett #Theluisbar #Vuedemonde Completely agree and the lack of welcome started before we got to the lift with an officious person giving each of us the 3rd degree before he would allow us to enter the lift. It was plain rude and spoilt an event that should have been special for Brent - Lui Bar needs to take a good hard look at themselves. Upside they missed out on a great group and we went elsewhere.

Yelp
The view is all you need to go for. (And walk up and down the 55 floors if you want to walk of a food baby) It is more "Fine" drinking as it can be pricey for drinks and food but come at night and get lost in the view. The stars are mainly for the view.

Yelp
How remiss of me not to review when I attended this hidden gem, well if you look up 55 floors you will see it! The old observation deck is a must see bar! First they have a dress code best call first no open sandals ladies and gents a great door girl who should double as a CIA operative ear piece and all remote for elevator! Couches in lobby until they have room upstairs or 55 floors up! Then stage 2 wait at bar podium order a bevvie until bar seat ready order 2 or more bevvies as you await a window seat! A great place for corporate smoozing great views, amazing drinks and a ice technician cuts the ice wow! Has wow all over it

Yelp
I went to the Lui bar last night on the recommendation of my hotel concierge (when asking about places with a good selection of Scotch). The bar is on the 55th floor of a building overlooking much of Melbourne. This was post-dinner so drinks only. The view: I was lucky enough to be sat at a window very quickly. The scenery of the city was nice, however, I have seen better city views along my travels (to be fair as I live in NYC, so take this with that grain of salt). Because they were trying to keep the glare down, the bar is rather dim, which made reading the drink menu a challenge. At one point I used the flashlight app on my phone so I could actually read it. The drinks: I did browse through their selection of scotches, and while I did find 2 that I liked, the selection was not as robust as I'd hoped for. Some of the ones they had I will say looked very good, however the prices were wildly varied. Some scotches cost far less than I'd expect, while others far more. While I ended up going middle of the road with two 18 year drinks (for a total of $50), overall I would say it's overpriced at the end of the day. Service: I will say that the service here was very good in my case. The wait staff were attentive, however didn't interrupt unless they saw I was in need of something (such as another drink, or a water refill). Also one of the bartenders did come over to have a discussion on the scotches with me, which was nice (I had questions on if they had more of a brand but a different vintage, etc.). I'd give them as the reason this is a 3 start and not a 2 star review. Overall this was a good one-off stop, but I don't see the need to visit here again.

Yelp
Must do in Melbourne! Impossible to detail everything in this review. The unimpeded view from the 55th floor overlooks the bay and is incredible at night. The cocktails are delicious, use high quality ingredients and although the prices are not given, they are good value for money, about $22 each. (Two drinks will be enough for the night). Definitely a place to go on a romantic date. The experience begins in the Rialto lobby. You are greeted by the concierge and asked to wait on the couches in the aging brown marble lobby. This is the calm before the storm. When you are escorted to the lift is it like you have been transported to the matrix, for the experience when you leave the lift is nothing short of incredible. The ugly brown marble is gone. The entire floor is black, dark and decorated with whimsy. Several security guards patrol the floor with earpieces like agent smith in their tailored suits. Some guests are dressed up in suits and evening gowns, and you imagine they are famous actresses with their rich boyfriends. Other guests are enamored with the view or the elaborate cocktails and the conversation is punctuated sound of cameras. Bottles of decanted spirits are arranged chaotically around the bar and in trolleys near the tables as if you could just reach out an pour yourself another drink. The bartenders have a friendly demeanor and make you feel welcome as they hand you a leather bound wine list and an expensive, black gloss cocktail menu that is reminiscent of those 3D fold out books, only this time he cocktails unfold in 3D at you page by page. There is also a short tapas menu that is printed on recycled paper with plant seeds embedded so that you can return the menu to nature when you get home. Oh and if you are a male, make sure to visit the bathroom, their interpretation of a space saving 3 person urinal will definitely get you more acquainted with your fellow patrons.

Yelp
I forgot how much of a thing of beauty Lui Bar is. Bringing along an out-of-towner who was having her first experience of Melbourne, we went along for the Lui equivalent of a Sunday session - jazz with a view of one of the most beautiful cities in the world as a backdrop beneath. Cold-drip espresso martinis and dry-ice infusions poured from conical flasks, this has either been taking notes on how to be a top hip bar in Melbourne, or writing them. With an incredible selection of beers and wines, you can drape yourself across a lounge while decadently sipping something so delicious you've found yourself at the bottom before you've realised there's a flush in your cheek and a friendly, ever-attentive waiter ready to cater to your next whim. Want to wow someone special? Spoil someone rotten? Show off our city? Or people watch the most eclectic bundle of persons you might find in one opulent establishment? I can think of nowhere better! (Additionally, think you're a wizz at how toilets work? Make sure you take a peek in to Lui's while you're here.. they're something a bit different.)
google avatar

Yelp
Hot travel tip: When you want to see a city, never head for the highest observation deck. Observation towers are for chumps. Go to the tallest building with a bar. The price of entry can then be served to you in delicious drink form. If it's Melbourne you want to see, Lui Bar is your ticket. Situated on the 54th floor of the Rialto Tower, it offers a mighty impressive view of the city. Cocktails are priced around the $18-$20 mark, which is what you can expect to pay at any high-end bar in the city. It's a calm, open and lovely space. The service is friendly and prompt, the drinks are delicious and I'm very keen to head back for more. If you have guests in town, I highly recommend taking them here for a quiet drink before exploring the city.
google avatar

Laura N.

Yelp
I'll bet the service was exceptional. I'm sure the cocktails were as fantastic as the pop-up menu they were presented in. I assume the hand-carved ice is worthy of stars on its own. I'll even go as far as to say that the futuristic sink in the bathroom that integrated a system where the water was already sanitized was likely beyond brilliant. But how could I pay attention to any of that when I was drooling over the 55th floor view of the Melbourne skyline at sunset? Dress to impress and prepare to raise that pinky - everyone deserves a little fancy in their lives. Get it here.
google avatar

Ruki D.

Yelp
Lui Bar has long been on the Melbourne must see list...if you're aiming to impress definitely take an out-of-towner here. Try and get yourself perched by a window seat and soak in the level 55 views of Melbourne town. If you time you're visit for sunset then you'll be in for an extra treat! The bar tenders know their stuff here and the service is impeccable. Prices, I don't think, are outlandish for what is one of Melbourne's premier venues.
google avatar

Tamp L.

Yelp
I'm admittedly a babe in the woods of the Melbourne food scene but was impressed nevertheless. What I found here was delightful and thought-provoking. It seems the two things one can do with molecular gastronomy (besides make Dippin' Dots) is to either employ techniques that showcase the innate qualities of foods (sous-vide steak!) or create novelty and surprises, often at the expense of wonderful natural flavors. Lui Bar fell somewhat into the latter category. If you've never tried it though, you haven't lived until you've had oysters poping in your mouth with carbonated grapes. The in-house infused vodka cocktails were delicate and thoughtful and the bartender, endowed incidentally with a master's in chemistry, provided a fascinating explanation of how aromatic volatiles are distilled and blended with the vodka right there at the bar.

Yelp
Great view but the prices are as sky high as the lounge. Not sure I would recommend anyone but the rich come here to eat, however that said If you are rich there are much better places to eat. Not sure what to say as the staff are lovely , the views amazing but seriously the prices for drinks etc just too far out.

Yelp
I knew I wanted to have a drink at the Lui Bar when I was in town. What I didn't know was that I'd feel like a bloody rock star when I did so. Here's what you need to know about getting into Lui: ask the person at ground floor very nicely if you can have a drink or two at Lui. This person will then pull a super awesome operator move of radioing up to the bar to check, and will then give you the OK (fingers crossed, anyways). You step into a nightclub elevator that magically takes you up to the 55th floor without you touching any buttons. The door opens (yawn to pop your ears) and an attractive person decked out in the finest of serving wear will welcome you to the Lui Bar and seat you. FANCY. SO FANCY. So fancy I had to order a drink to chill out--but then you have to take your time reading through the amazing pop-up menu, too! IT'S ALL TOO MUCH. OR MAYBE JUST ENOUGH? HEAVEN. I WAS IN HEAVEN. I normally like to try things I haven't had before, but I'll always zero in on anything with gin in it first. I can't even remember what the first drink I had was, but after a quick scan of the previous reviews, my second was a Lola Montez Spider Dance Fizz--the fresh fruit at the time was mandarin, which was perfect for my tastes. The smoke was fun to watch but more importantly, delicious to smell. I sniffed that delicious spiced smoke right up. (The drink itself was also A+.) I mostly wanted to write this review to prepare you for the killer entrance, but Sascha K's beaten me in the meantime! Never mind, it just reinforces the experience really. I absolutely loved my evening sitting at the bar, chatting to the bartenders and occasionally twirling around for a glimpse of the incredible evening view. Oh, what a night.

Yelp
Went up there and was seated for over 15 minutes. Not a single server came by despite several attempts to flag a server. The service staff couldn't be more bothered about the guests. It almost seems like they don't really care as they have a great view and a lockdown on the crowd that arrives here.

Yelp
This bar has everything going for it. Great view, great service & great drinks. If you are new to Melbourne, its a good place to have a drink and get your bearings around the south side of Melbourne. Perfect location to kick off a special night. Prices are steep, but expected at a place like this. If you are into cocktails, then there are lots of good options to try, but bring your chequebook as they are around $25 each.

Yelp
Giving two stars because the view is impeccable.but the service is TERRIBLE AND VERY RUDE. I recommend this place as a stop off if you are entertaining tourists but make sure you dress up as they will use any excuse to exclude people with their pompous attitude Drinks are very overpriced. Coffees $10 each and rather blah compared to Melbourne standards. When you pay $10 for a hot chocolate you would expect a marshmallow or some cream but no such thing here. They also refused to let us sit near the window despite there being a number of free seats due to their 'strict seating layout' = douches

Yelp
A-MA-ZING!!! My new after hours, date, show, work place to chill. Its a science experiment for drinkers. Classy place. Excellent service and servers. Coffee was the word of mouth recommendation that drew me there but compared to the sliders and macadamia nut martini...the coffee was 2 star disappointment. But overall the experience still was a 5! Luuuuv it and will go back and bring everyone i know!!

Yelp
View was stunning. I had one the signature cocktails which is very yum although a little teeny. Service was ok. Would go back.

Yelp
This is the most loveable , romantic place to go to in Melbourne. I love it! The drinks are terrific, the food flavour is fantastic and the top view is the best in the city. If you are visiting Melbourne, put this on your top must-do list. The espresso martini is worth the visit. And if you can time it that you are here at sunset, you will get some amazing views! Yelp
Just another reminder of how awesome this city is. Great views from the 55th floor are what make this fancy venue. Much like the bar at Marina Bay Sands, the view makes up the price ($76 for a beer, Cider & 2 Bloody Mary's), yet still much cheaper than what you're getting there or in somewhere like Hong Kong or Shanghai for a bar with a view. The service was probably a little slow for my liking, but I guess it was kind of busy, with a lot of people popping in for a drink prior to a good food month dinner @ Vue, and even groups coming in from Oaks. Not somewhere I'd go every week (well unless someone wants to take me to dinner at Vue every week that is), but I've got a friend coming in from NY in the new year, so I'll take her up for a cocktail or 2, and I'd definitely go back for a special occasion!

Yelp
Totally worth the wait for getting on the elevator that would take us to the 55th floor bar.. Dim lighting, modern, and abstract decor are what's waiting for you once you get off the elevator. They have a good system of seating. They will start you off with bar seating, if there is no window seating available. Once the seats by the window open, you have the priority to move to those seats while the new comers take the bar seats.. It makes total sense but I don't know why other places don't utilize this system. The nice part of the bar seating is getting to watch the bartenders work their magic.. They have a great selection of drinks with really interesting names. Drinks are definitely well made and not as expensive as I expected. The prices are not listed on the menu (a big no-no!)/They were about 20-25 AUD for a cocktail, which is good for a downtown location with such a good view.. Bartenders are extra helpful with suggestions. I do think this place needs a bit more lighting because we could barely read the menu without the flashlight app. Once we moved to our window seating, the table service was slow and the experience wasn't as good. Overall, this place is worth a visit for such good views and drinks!

Yelp
It's worth coming here for the spectacular view of the city. We came at sunset and watched the sky change from pink to orange to dark blue. It was a beautiful way to see Melbourne. The sky high view and bar rivaled that of the High Altitude bar at Shanghai World Financial Center but I haven't find anything that tops the view from Singapore's Marina Bay Sands. Our cocktails were tasty enough, enjoyed the pop-up menu, and server was friendly, but $100 for 4 cocktails makes this a "1-drink, enjoy the view, then hit the road" kind of place. Be prepared to wait in the lobby before being invited up, then find the glitzy bar mostly empty upstairs. Trying to generate an exclusive feel? It kind of works, but only for one drink before getting out and exploring the city.

Yelp
Beautiful east-south-west panorama view from the window down and inspiring cocktails that entertained the moment.

Yelp
We went here to get a view of the city and a beer. The wait for the elevator was about 10 minutes. Once we arrived we sat at the bar ordered our beer and then a window tabled opened for us. We moved over to the table and enjoyed a couple of drinks and the view. Th staff was very good from the person down below helping with the elevator to the person who met us when we steeped off on the top floor. The bartender and waitress were also friendly and attentive. Yes the beer was expensive but I would still go back. I enjoyed my time.

Yelp
This is the worst customer service i have ever experienced. I was told over the phone a month prior to Valentine's Day that Lui Bar doesn't take reservations. Upon arrival a rude french host told us the place was booked out and all tables reserved. I then asked how this was possible and explained that I was told on the phone that Lui Bar didn't take reservations, it was then made clear to me that appartently there was a FACEBOOK event that was taking bookings for Lui Bar. I was disappointed that I wasn't made aware of this a month ago. We then waited 20 mins in the lobby waiting with a few other couples (it was Valentine's Day). My girlfriend and I were dressed very elegantly as the first time my girlfriend tried to get in she was denied entry as she was wearing jeans. We looked around the lobby and there were couples wearing sneakers and ripped jeans... what is the dress code and why is it not consistent!!?? We were then finally called up but the host harshly, shoved 4 couples into the one elevator. We were then told that we still had to wait at a STANDING table next to the bar until a seat AT THE BAR became availble to us. By that point we had had enough and had to leave. My girlfriend and I just can't believe that we were made to stand at the standing table when there were availble tables at the window, we most likely could have enjoyed a drink or two and some bites to eat in the time that they had reserved for another couple. This was an absolutely appalling experience and we will never return to Lui Bar for the bad service and organisation. Thoroughly disappointed.

Yelp
Years ago when I first moved to Melbourne, I wanted to visit the Eureka Skydeck for out-of-this world views of the city. "Don't you dare!" a friend I met on Tinder said (back then I thought Tinder could also be a way to make friends... I learned that the hard way) and they took me to the Lui Bar instead. Many stories up, this bar is a thing of true beauty. Come by during sunset and enjoy remarkable views of the skyline and city, settle into comfortable leather couches and suede sofas, and drink elegant cocktails while watching the city come alive. You'll never drink an old fashioned with a better view.

Yelp
You can't beat the view, but Bar Lui doesn't rest on its laurels. Had an awesome Old Fashioned...which started with the bartender sawing the ice off a large block and chopping it with a butcher knife. I could see that they were serious about making a good drink. Interior devour is very cool, and the bar food is delicious. Got a grazing plate of three sliders (favourite was the barramundi burger) and chick pea fries. At midnight they brought around complimentary snacks. Nice touch!

Yelp
We went to The Lui Bar yesterday, unfortunately it was "full" and we have been advised to leave our number to be called back in 30-40min. So we went for a quick drink at state of grace, a very cool place just next door. 90 min later we decided to get back there to see where our table was at cause we didn't received any call. The fancy pants there told us to wait 5-10 more minutes. 10 minutes later we finally get to the elevator to the 55 floor. The premises are nice, the view is stunning. Many tables are free... We get to our table and get some menus for the drinks. The cocktail menu is not super clear and comes without price tag. We waited again a solid 20 minutes until we finally catch a waitress to take our orders. The drinks came quickly. So I had a spider dance, interesting flavours but that's about it. I had way better cocktails around Melbourne. The customer service was simply not existing. The waitress was cute but had no clue how to do her job. What was probably a manager was the most obnoxious person I've seen in a while, it was almost insulting. If the owner of this bar sees this note, please react! You have a gem and it is ruined by the completely disorganised and overly pretentious team. The only good point is the view and you can get similar ones in better places.
