This place has the best coffee ever!!! I’m not a coffee drinker but I guess I’ll be joining the club now. It was the best I’ve ever had. I went with 2 more friends from Chicago and they also both said this coffee tastes so different and smooth. Vivian was really pleasant and made us fill like home. While we were waiting for our order she gave us some cinnamon that was so fresh made and delicious. THANK YOU!!!

Taylor

Google
Holy options! There are 3 different areas; one for breakfast and coffee, one for pastries and one for coffee. We stayed for breakfast. The Swedish pancakes were so good, they were very buttery - I felt they could’ve used a bit more jam, but so delicious. My husband had the carrot waffle - he said it had a lot of carrot flavor and had a nice crisp. The coffee was the perfect combo of sweet and strong.

Google
This is a nice bakery for sweet treats. I tried a few of their items, and the croissant was flaky and buttery in the best possible way. The other items were also delicious, especially the cardamom bread; it goes well with coffee. I’d definitely recommend this bakery for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Google
We discovered Luisa’s when we were visiting in September and have been dreaming about the Swedish pancakes ever since. We decided to take a trip this weekend and returning to Luisa’s was the primary focus. I can’t speak highly enough about this place.

Google
Wow such good pastries!! The chocolate chip cookie was amazing. I got two. The plain croissant was AMAZING. I wanted to go back but they were closed the days we were in Michigan. The workers were friendly and patient for us to order. Can’t wait to come back.

Jillian

Google
Spectacular, and will worth the wait! I stopped by on a busy Saturday morning, but the vibe was still lovely and relaxed.

Google
Fantastic place for baked goods and coffee. Limited good menu available. We had paninis and they were delicious. Indoor and outdoor seating. Restrooms. Dedicated parking.

Nikki Evenson

Google
Amazing place. Cute with really friendly staff. Had to wait 1 hour to get service due to lines, but the Blueberry scone and Ham and cheese croissant were amazing.

Phillip K.

Yelp
The best restaurant in the area. We love going for breakfast. Swedish pancakes are delicious!

Wendy ..

Yelp
I literally dream of this place. The best Swedish pancakes on planet earth. It is worth the drive from Detroit and the cost of overnight lodgings just to wake up and have breakfast here.

Emma B.

Yelp
This place is a MUST STOP if you're going through or staying in the area for awhile. They have some indoor seating where you can sit and enjoy your sweets as well. They have fresh baked goods every day! The almond croissant was the BEST ! Their flavors vary depending on the day too. On the other side there is the cafe portion with maybe 6 tables but we didn't try or sit over there. The service was quick which is great when the line is really long!!! Get here early!!!

Jessica S.

Yelp
I really like the donuts, cookies, and blueberry scone here. The danish had too little filling. Cardamom donut is good but it is a strong flavor. I would stop in to try some other things.

Lauren K.

Yelp
The food was so good! What a great little spot for a pastry and pick me up. Can't wait to come back.

Megan J.

Yelp
Everything here was delicious. We had the eclairs and the kolaches. The service was great and we didn't have to wait.

Brie I.

Yelp
The bakery items we purchased were fresh and packed full of flavor. The coffee was delicious, too. Outdoor seating provided a pleasant location to indulge in our pastries. This was our first experience here, and we were not aware of how to order, so it took a while to figure out the expectations; maybe providing new customers with more signage about how to go about the process would decrease confusion and wait times. Even after taking a ticket, we waited over a half hour to order. Some helpful suggestions that may decrease wait times may include designating one worker to restock the cabinets while others solely focus on customer orders (multiple workers were restocking, and that caused a stoppage in receiving customer orders). Another suggestion would be to have more signage indicating there is a sit-down restaurant available with a menu (we had no idea and would have ordered a meal if we had known). Lastly, having available menus/item lists would be helpful as customers wait to place their order. Overall, I'd rate Luisa's 5 stars for food and 3 stars for the processes/systems in place...hence the overall 4 star rating.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my first visit to this quaint bakery. My friend and I had heard many good things about this spot and they all seemed to be true. The small building on the side of the road is not very eye catching but their baked goods are! I wish I could have tried more things and plan on returning to check out another round of goodies. Inside there is a ton of varnished wood which feels very cozy. Big windows allow sunlight in to highlight the beautiful pastries. They offer sweet and savory. On this day we tried sweet. My friend tried a scone that she said was delicious. I loved my almond cardamom muffin. It was moist with layers of interesting flavor. We both chose the apple turnover to take home. I loved it even more than I had thought I would. It was flaky and just sweet enough. It was a very nice surprise. The staff was very kind and helpful. There was a small line that seemed to move quickly. They offered service with a smile, which I appreciate very much. On my next visit to Michigan, I will definitely stop in again. I'm looking forward to the veggie quiche and maybe a loaf of bread.

Dan G.

Yelp
I have not enjoyed a bakery so much since Paris. Our rental was right across the street from the Swedish Bakery we were always curious about. We walked over just before they opened Sunday and joined the queue-yes, already a queue. Once inside we surveyed the fresh selection of danishes, breads, cakes, muffins and donuts. It all looked so good! We loaded up: ham and cheese croissant, meat quiche, Apple strudel, sticky buns, cinnamon pecan danish, raspberry cheese danish, and pan raisin. Loved it all! Everything was on point and tasty.

Brad H.

Yelp
Have you ever had a salted toffee cookie? This recipe deserves to be universally available

Gary H.

Yelp
It was so good that we went back the next morning. When you go be prepared for a little wait because they are extremely busy...their food is that good and worth the wait. One room is fresh pastries and breads, and the other room has tables for sitting at to eat breakfast or lunch from a set menu. The service was really good and the servers were friendly and efficient. It would've been very easy for the serving staff to not be as friendly because they were so busy....but they were friendly and welcoming. My next visit will include the bakery.

Roberta L.

Yelp
Great quiche in the deli case. Fed 4. Chocolate chip and peach berry pie cookies good. Also bought ham and cheese croissant but haven't tried yet. Hummus and beet salad purchased not yet tried but showing readers the variety they have there. Fairly crowded in a Friday so others seem to like.

Maralyn O.

Yelp
Amazing pastries!!! I had heard so much about this place and I finally got to stop by on a recent trip to new Buffalo. Had a blueberry scone and an apple turnover. The apple turnover was perfectly flaky and the fruit was plump and yummy. The scone also filled with juicy fruit. Not really too many spots to sit down to eat but there were a couple of tables outside.

Jennifer F.

Yelp
Always a fun stop to grab amazing munchies for the road and snacks for later. Have dined in before too - great food!!

Allison F.

Yelp
Yum! This is a fun spot in Stevensville with lots of sweet options and lots of loaves of bread. My recs: the granola-based cookie is a most definite, and check out the bread of the month. I enjoyed June's black pepper and parmesan as toast a whole lot.

Pamela D.

Yelp
If you are in the area do yourself a favor and stop in! The bakery is authentic and absolutely amazing! Fresh homemade everything! The fresh breads a to die for! AND. The fFrozen POT PIES. Are to die for! A perfect dinner for 2! Soups Quiche Charcuterie and more. It's a must ! Get off the Highway and Enjoy all this area has to offer you won't regret it!

Susan L.

Yelp
This bakery is heavenly. They have so many food and bakery options. One can spend a lot of time trying to decide what to get because they have so many wonderful giant cookies, coffee cakes, pies, muffins, croissants, donuts, danish, coffee, lattes, to go meals, soups, sandwiches, scones, bread loaves, kolaches, cheese, dips and grocery items like pasta, sauces and a lot of other things. I love being in this bakery where it's so clean, the items are placed very well and the best of all, they are so friendly! We ordered a variety of muffins, scones, croissant, danish, and cookies. They were so good! The lattes are good too. Parking is easy and we will be back! They are open Thursday through Sunday from 8am to 2pm. You can also order online at either https://harbertswedishbakery.square.site or luisascafe.com.

Val G.

Yelp
Nice Swedish bakery with plenty of options. Fresh homemade breads, coffee cakes, pastry's, donuts, croissants - syrups, honey, sauces, some coffee options and cold beverages as well.

Claudia M.

Yelp
Every Summer we make a morning stop here before we arrive at our yearly Family Reunion in Coloma, Michigan. It has become our family tradition and the kids love it. This place is usually crowded with families who probably all have the same Summer tradition. They have amazing fresh baked donuts, almond croissants, apricot and cheese danishes. They also have table service for dine in breakfast. We have not had breakfast here yet because we are always in a time crunch. HSB is clean and the staff is very polite and friendly. I highly recommend HSB if you are in this neck of the woods.

Kelly B.

Yelp
I had the most incredible gluten free chocolate cheesecake muffin! I am newly gluten free and HATE this life style change, the good news is, I can eat my feelings with the incredible muffin

Margaret O.

Yelp
Lovely old world bakery with out of this world treats!! Quiche to baked goods, delicious pies and cookies!! You can order online and pick up next day too!! Highly recommend!!!

Emilia Z.

Yelp
Best vegetable quiche I've ever eaten and friendly service. Other pastries were also quite yummy. If you're in the area, I recommend stopping by for some brunch goodies.

Michele M.

Yelp
Stopped here while we were in town. We got a little bit of everything and it was absolutely delicious. My daughter enjoyed the donuts, and I had a wonderful croissant while our grandparents had the cinnamon coffee cake. Such a cute place with delicious pastries.

Stephanie R.

Yelp
Would be nice if they had some good real donuts instead of tasteless dry crap and kept it stocked. Maybe stay open for more than two days. Geez

Li S.

Yelp
Our family cottage is around the corner from here (within walking distance) and I can't help but love it. Over the years it has consistently remained the wonderful little Swedish bakery that it is today. Connected to the bakery is Luisa's Cafe- a cute and cozy little cafe that's perfect for breakfast/ brunch. Each and every morning the Swedish Bakery has a HUGE variety of Swedish treats baked fresh daily. I like to think I've tried most of their treats throughout the years, and the danishes have remained my favorite. If you don't get there early enough, they do sell out (especially during the heavy-traffic summer months) and you may be out of luck. If you are not used to baked-fresh-daily bakery prices, the prices here will seem a little steep. You get what you pay for. One thing to note is that they are cash-only!

Gennady V.

Yelp
Very tasty deserts and breads. Their sour dough was delicious. Their pastries... Are to die for! Highly recommend this if you are passing through or vacationing here!

Ellen D.

Yelp
Stopped here on our way out of town from vacationing in New Buffalo. Ham and havarti croissant and almond croissant were delicious. Everything looked great! Had to get some MI mitten cookies for the road.

anthony L.

Yelp
Great service great food great employees great employees best experience for my 1st time ever forever I highly recommend this place if you are ever in the area

Erin J.

Yelp
I pre-ordered two apple strudels from this bakery and was very disappointed. My very larger extended family recommended that I purchase them there but when I showed up at my family reunion everyone was surprised at the quality of the strudel. They were BLACK on the bottom and the rest of the pastry was tough. The next morning I called and spoked to Vivian the owner. She proceeded to tell me that I was wrong, that's how they come and she was looking at one that came out of the oven with the same batch. She wanted me to bring them in and show them to here. I told her I had pictures but she didn't want to see them. I hung up after realizing she was not going to listen to a customer complaint.

Andy D.

Yelp
This bakery is well worth the visit when you are SW Michigan. In addition to the bakery there is a small restaurant attached as well. Our family had the cinnamon rolls, donuts and pecan rolls. Everyone wanted to go back for more. Outstanding.

Rachel C.

Yelp
We love this bakery. Every time we visit Berrien County we have to come to the Harbert Swedish Bakery. We love their danishes, cookies, breads, coffee cakes - it's all delicious! The thing is everyone knows it so be prepared for a line but they are quick so you'll be enjoying your goodies in no time! I even commemorated this visit with a mug to take home

Shana K.

Yelp
While on vacation I drove from Michigan City to Harbert just to try these pastries. My ancestry is Swedish and I was excited to find a Swedish bakery. Unfortunately I didn't realize that Harbert was on Eastern Time so I arrived as they were closing. The staff absolutely could have turned me away but they didnt. They were so friendly and welcoming, and took the time to tell me about the various pastries and breads. I bought quite a few items and they were all delicious. The Limpu bread was an absolute treat, both sweet and savory. The kolachkis are among the best tart/cookies I have had. They are two bites of delicate, buttery, fruity joy. My only regret is that I live so far away that this will likely only be a once a year treat.

Karen S.

Yelp
This place is a must visit when in southern Michigan Dune country. Best doughnuts and pastries. We always stop at least once. I only wish they were open 7 days a week. They are closed Tuesday and Wednesday, so plan your visit accordingly.

Cassidy H.

Yelp
This is a great find in Harbert, MI. We planned ahead to visit based on finding it on Yelp. They're connected to the restaurant, Luisa's Cafe, which had plentiful gluten free options. I was disappointed the bakery side did not have any gluten free options since Luisa's had so many, but for the rest of my party that could eat the gluten said everything was DIVINE! They had plenty of everything and continued restocking with full trays at 12pm/noon on a Saturday. It's really great when bakeries are prepared with full quantities of everything, especially since so many people are tourists from the beach towns seeking this out.

Brittany L.

Yelp
This bakery is connected to Luisa's Cafe. The bakery makes doughnuts, cookies, kolaches, danishes, and traditional Swedish pastries. I think they do custom cakes as well. I HAD to purchase a few sweets, just to test-drive the place. The kolaches were pretty good, the doughnuts were tasty too. The teenager behind the counter didn't have much charm though. I look forward to stopping in the summer, when it's "tourist season" and the cases are fully stocked. CASH ONLY!! It's pastries, people. If you don't have enough cash on your person to buy some fried dough you should be ashamed of yourself.

Donna M.

Yelp
Their ham and cheese croissants are delicious, as well as all of their sweet rolls. The only thing I don't really care for are the donuts. Prices are on the high side, but for the quality of the product it is fair.

Ari L.

Yelp
I grew up with a summer cabin down the road, and we frequently bought pastries from this bakery, and while I thought it was terrific as a kid, I realize now that I just didn't know any better. The food and pastries are nothing special. They are good for the area, but frankly, if you are from a larger city, you have probably had much better. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but if you are passing by it might be worth a stop if you are craving something sweet.

Peter B.

Yelp
Amazing bakery located just west of Union Pier. They carry all sorts of yummy treats. Just grab a number when you enter and wait your turn to be helped. We opted for the blueberry pie as blueberries were in season in the area at the time. We took the pie home for an after dinner dessert and it was truly amazing. We also picked up a few cookies that were also really spectacular. I don't think one could pick out a bad item at this bakery. It's definitely worth a stop if in the area.

Stuti D.

Yelp
We stopped here on the way from Chicago to Holland. The bakery is so cool. We had their donuts and some other pastries. I had something filled with apricot. Everything was fresh and tasty. You can taste that they have not held back on the butter. Also, it is well priced. I think it is cash only.

Madeline B.

Yelp
This is a must do in the area! The vibe inside was cozy and warm. We came during the Sunday morning breakfast rush, so we had a bit of a wait but the staff was very friendly and service was quick. I had the avocado toast which was a bit small for the price but very delicious. My boyfriend had the crustless quiche of the day which was was a big portion and extremely good. Of course we had to get some baked goods. We got a few things which were all very tasty but the real star was the Cardamom Cinnamon Almond Coffee Cake- I'd drive 3 hours back for that alone!

Muriel T.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped here after breakfast, and I am VERY glad we had already eaten! The selection is abundant; a wide variety of breads, pastries, kringles, cookies, pies, and a few other desserts, all fresh and made from scratch. They have a few GF options, and today I chose a wheat-free brownie. I wanted to try it because that would give me a good idea of how everything else tasted. In my experience, if a bakery can nail GF baked goods, the regular ones are outstanding. It. Was. Incredible. Do not wait, go check it out, and get there early. People around here know how good this place is, and the line can get long! But totally worth it.

Michael G.

Yelp
I don't understand all the 4 and 5 star reviews. It's like these people have never been to a real bakery before. Bakery items are sub-par to OK (bland) and way overpriced. I hate to say it but Meijer and Martins have better tasting baked goods. Don't waste your time. Take a drive to Bit-o-Swiss instead if you want something special.

Grace L.

Yelp
This was a pleasant surprise! You are greeted by large cases of a variety of baked goods both Swedish and American. There were multiple types of coffee cakes, doughnuts, cookies, cinnamon rolls, seriously any type of pastry you'd crave for. Everything is made in house and comes up a dumb waiter from the basement. I got the 3 in 1 coffee cake which had cardamon, cinnamon and almonds. This place is cash only and check if you buy over $10. It's a very popular stop on Sunday morning but service is quick. The coffee cake was very fragrant but a bit on the dry side. I will definitely be back to purchase more goodies!

Terri O.

Yelp
Charming bakery and restaurant with yummy breakfast food and also pastries. The staff was incredible. We felt like we were the only ones in the place and it was packed! The coffee tastes as good as it smells when you walk in.

Jay B.

Yelp
Delicious and fresh. The only gig like this nearby. We checked it out around 1:00 Friday and the goods were nearly sold out. Stopped back salivating Saturday around 8:30am, and the cases were loaded up with a bountiful, wide variety. Keep up the great work!

Kevin S.

Yelp
Fantastic bakery! I am a huge fan of their chocolate chunk cookies with sea salt. The pies are outstanding. Their loaves of bread are delicious and taste every bit as good as those that fancy restaurants serve a slice at a time. When you are in the area, make it a point to stop. You won't be disappointed.

Julie H.

Yelp
The aroma upon entering The Swedish Bakery is the essence of old European bakery. If you can get over the uneven, not-so-friendly service, you should make a stop at this sweet fixture of Old Harbert. This is where many a Midwesterner sampled her first kalachki. Enjoy a fairly priced, deliciously unfussy donut, custard pastry, coffee cake, cookie or cinnamon roll and take a fresh loaf of bread home to your family or friends. Strongly recommend!

S F.

Yelp
I've been going here since a little girl and have always loved it. They have some of the best pastries I have ever had. The inside is quaint, clean, and pleasant. All the workers there are so friendly. I have yet to try the cafe side but the bakery will always have a special place in my heart.

Rachael Z.

Yelp
If your wallet still contains cash, and your teeth need sweets, this is the place for you. I've dined at the restaurant and purchased sweets, and have vastly different reviews of both. However, I'll move my review on the restaurant to the Luisa's Cafe page. What an assortment! There are so many delicious breakfast and dessert treats to choose from, it's nearly overwhelming. I wanted to buy something for everyone for two reasons - 1, everything was so well-presented but 2, the prices! I was thrilled with the low-cost of most of the items. I was so happy with all of my purchases (as were the 5+ people that enjoyed their sweet gifts). I'm not from the area but visit often and this will now be added to the list of places I need to visit. I couldn't find anything in the area that was anything like this! Highly recommended!
