On the Grid : LUKA ice cream & cakes

"One of my favorite places in all of Split is Luka, hands-down the best place to cool off with a sweet treat. The Polish ice cream and dessert shop is just a short walk past the National Theatre. During the summer season, there is almost always a line extending from Luka’s ice cream counter. With creative flavors (which change daily) like “Orange and Carrot,” “Mojito” and the must-try “Apple Pie,” you will be sure to find the perfect scoop served up for just 9 kn. They also have a tempting selection of desserts and coffee. On sunny days, the friendly staff lay out cushions on the bench outside so you can sit and people-watch while you enjoy your sweet treat." - Leslie Yeh

WARNING: My croissant had hair on it and the waiter just returned it to the platter to sell once again after I told him! Longer explanation: Went there before I saw all the recent reviews of ownership change and that it's not the same quality as before. We sat down, tried the pistachio paris brest - it was dry and the cream inside only has a hint of pistachios. Croissant on the other hand, had tiny hairs barely visible to the eye, but the sun made me catch one and on closer inspection there was more (I counted 4). I pulled the biggest one out on the dark napkin (so I can show it to the waiter and kindly let him know) he acted surprised, didn't even look at it tbh and sourly apologized, offered another for exchange and put the one I brought in back on the platter...he acted as if I made it up and didn't care at all. Good thing I took a picture because I felt a bit gaslighted by his reactions, even though I doubled down and said "it happens" because I wasn't there to be dramatic, but to let him know. I'm sad I didn't tear the croissant apart so he couldn't sell it, absolutely disgraceful and unacceptable!!

Heads up, they had a recent name change and it is now called Art Patisserie. My ice cream was ok. Extremely creamy and very nice thickness but the flavour was a bit bland. I had the Split which is fig, orange, and almond. Mainly tasted of vanilla. Staff were friendly and the store presentation was beautiful. Lots of flowers and pretty cakes.

The name of this place is not luka anymore so be aware. It is art cafe. I liked the lavender dark chocolate ice cream.

Luka Ice Cream in Split is a gem! The shop is beautiful, and we enjoyed trying the lavender flower and three other floral flavors. The homemade ice cream is truly exceptional. The staff was friendly, smiley, and explained everything well. Highly recommend trying Luka's homemade special ice cream. Thank you!

An interesting selection of cakes and ice creams. We tried the Split cake and the White chocolate - raspberry mousse, and both cakes met all our expectations. The cakes are light, not too sweet, but still rich in flavor.

Great ice cream - not worth it for the cakes. We found the cakes heavy, bland, to big portions & generally lacked finesse… But try the ice cream - pistacchio and Splitska Torta mix with figs & orange was nice!

We came here to try specifically their Splitska Torta and am glad it did not disappoint. Just the right amount of sweetness and richness for my taste. It was great to see served in a personal size as well instead of a slice. Would definitely want to go back to try their ice cream and other sweet offerings.

Love love love this place. I go every year, usually multiple times. It doesnt get the same foot traffic as the ice cream shops inside the palace walls, but that is a shame because their inspired flavors are inventive and delicious, and change frequently. This year, the most knockout flavors included the walnut cake with figs, and the crostata with honey, also the black lemon. And their lavanda is creamy and rich with strong lavender flavor. My group also ordered a cake from there to celebrate our friend, and it was a delicious and creamy version of a strawberry shortcake.
