Went to Luma for their Summerlicious dinner menu before catching a show nearby. It’s located on the second floor of the TIFF building. The dining room is quite spacious, and they also have a balcony patio that offers additional outdoor seating. It was a beautiful warm day, so it was great to sit outside. We were originally seated indoors, but I really appreciated our server asking if we’d prefer to move outside to enjoy the weather.
For my appetizer, I had the split pea soup, which was surprisingly flavourful and satisfying. The pistachios added a nice bit of texture, and the whipped feta brought some extra depth to the dish. I did wonder how it might have tasted served warm, and if there were any whole peas in the mix.
For the main course, I went with the sirloin steak. The creamed corn was delicious, and the vegetables were nicely charred. Unfortunately, the steak itself was overcooked - it came out medium when I had asked for medium rare. I initially requested it rare, but they mentioned they couldn’t accommodate that due to their sous vide process. We let the staff know, and they were very apologetic - they ended up comping our drinks, which was a thoughtful gesture.
For dessert, I tried the Black Forest cake. It wasn’t my favourite - it felt too dense and heavy after the meal. I was hoping for something a bit lighter to finish things off.
