On the Grid : Lummus Park

"Though Lummus Park is Miami’s oldest park, the two historic structures moved here are even older. They are the only two surviving buildings from Miami’s pioneer era. One is from Fort Dallas and is a Slavehouse that was built by the Slaves of settler William English in 1844 from native oolitic limestone. It was converted to a U.S. Army barracks during the Second Seminole War and was later a part of Julia Tuttle’s homestead after she purchased Fort Dallas. Tuttle is considered, “The Mother of Miami” and is the only female founder of any American city. The other building is William Wagner’s House that he built in the 1850’s. It is a traditional frontier home built of hand-hewn lumber with mortise and tenon joints. Wagner lived in Miami until he died in 1901, was a Veteran of the Mexican War and built the first church in Miami-Dade County. The buildings are not open to the public, but there are basketball courts, a play ground and picnic benches scattered throughout the park." - Hernan Bas & Pete Rozek

Beaches and Parks in Miami

"Probably the most recognizable stretch of sand in Miami sits between Fifth and 12th Street in South Beach. Here’s where you’ll find most of the rollerbladers, volleyball courts, workout equipment, and Art Deco facades you’ve seen on TV. Lummus Park, around 11th Street, is the activity center of the beach where pull-up bars and other exercise equipment are filled with people working on their South Beach bodies. The sand here can get pretty packed, especially on weekends — so if you’re seeking a relaxing place to lay on the beach, look elsewhere." - MATADOR_NETWORK

One of our favorite places in the city! My wife and I come to this park frequently to ride our bikes, walk along the beach, and simply enjoy nature. In the morning, the water is crystal clear — it’s truly beautiful. There are several great restaurants nearby where you can grab a delicious breakfast after your walk or ride. The park is extremely safe, with plenty of lifeguards and police officers around. It really gives you peace of mind, especially if you’re visiting with family. There’s also a bike rental station right by the entrance, which makes it super convenient if you don’t bring your own. We love how clean and well-maintained everything is. It’s the perfect spot to relax, exercise, or spend quality time outdoors. Highly recommended for families, couples, or anyone who enjoys the beach and a peaceful atmosphere.

Google
Oceanfront Oasis Lummus Park is an iconic beachfront park in South Beach, Miami, stretching along Ocean Drive. It's a fantastic spot with a variety of activities and beautiful scenery. Just a short walk from the beach, the park offers picturesque views of Fisher Island, where you can see the grand cruise ships making their departure from the Port of Miami. It's also a prime location to witness stunning sunsets painting the sky with vibrant colors. Beyond the views, Lummus Park is an excellent place for picnics, parties, and barbecues, thanks to its great facilities and ample space. While direct park parking for these activities might be limited, there are numerous public parking garages and lots nearby on streets like Collins Avenue and Washington Avenue, making it convenient to access. Metered street parking is also available, though it can fill up quickly, especially during peak times. The park itself is lively and offers: * Paved paths perfect for walking, jogging, biking, or rollerblading. * Outdoor gym equipment for fitness enthusiasts. * Playgrounds for kids of various ages. * Volleyball courts for a fun game on the sand. * Public restrooms and showers, making it easy to enjoy a full day at the beach. Lummus Park truly captures the energetic spirit of South Beach, blending natural beauty with urban convenience.

Google
This park is situated between the beach and Ocean Drive, allowing you to experience everything during your stroll: by day, you can enjoy the beach and wander through the park, while at night, you can take a charming walk along Ocean Drive, which is beautifully illuminated by the lights of hotels and restaurants. To truly appreciate the lights, it's best to stroll along the park's sidewalk rather than in front of the bars and restaurants. We discovered that the primary purpose of Lummus Park was to extend the beach further from the town to help prevent flooding. It features a lovely green space with walking paths and benches.

Google
I absolutely loved Lummus Park! It’s one of those rare places that feels magical both during the day and at night. During the afternoon, the park is vibrant with palm trees, open spaces, and the stunning Miami Beach backdrop—it’s perfect for relaxing walks, people-watching, or just soaking up the sun. At night, the atmosphere completely transforms. When we visited, there was a concert happening, which added an incredible energy to the place. The lights, the music, and the lively crowd made it feel like the heart of Miami’s nightlife—but still chill and inviting. It’s such a pretty spot whether you want to enjoy some live music or just take a peaceful stroll under the stars. What I really loved about Lummus Park is how it blends nature, beach vibes, and community spirit all in one place. Whether you’re there to unwind, snap amazing photos, or enjoy local events, it has a welcoming and fun vibe that stays with you. Rating: 5/5 – A must-visit spot that’s beautiful, lively, and full of Miami’s charm any time of day or night.

Google
Lummus Park is pure Miami—beautiful beach, palm trees swaying, and a lively, colorful vibe that never disappoints. The food along Ocean Drive can miss the mark, but this park makes up for it every time. Perfect for a beach day, bike ride, or just soaking up the South Beach energy—it’s the real highlight of Miami!

Google
Beautiful South Beach location. Pay heavy fees if you want to occupy a pair of Beach chairs and umbrella ($30 each) and a tent line structure for $50. Beautiful beach front and safe for swimming. Bring your tent, SPF cream, water bottles, beach sleepers, shades, drinks, food, tent, umbrella and enjoy the breeze and sun. On the road side, a chain of eateries and restaurants ofcourse, and you guessed it right, are not cheaper. Move to the second lane on Washington or Lincoln avenues to find Five Guys, Denny's fast food eateries and really good restaurants for food and drink. Board on complimentary trolley (bus) service by Miami council that takes you around the city.

Google
Whether you’re soaking up the sunshine, breaking a sweat at Muscle Beach, admiring Art Deco architecture, or enjoying a vibrant night out—Lummus Park embodies the best of Miami Beach’s laid-back charm and electric nightlife. It’s a place where every moment—from sunrise to after-dark—feels like a cinematic Miami highlight, and it’s absolutely worth experiencing in full

Google
It's such a cool atmosphere to be in... It's a crazy party daily. So much nice looking men and women. It's exciting. Excising rollerblading biking bikinis tan lines sexy bodies old and young people. I always enjoy Lummus Park and the parties on ocean drive.

Yelp
Great place. You could walk your dog, watch some green parakeets here, and there's also a gym. Overall, it's a great place to visit, located right near the Miami Beach and Ocean Drive.

Beautiful, with absolutely picturesque lifeguard towers.. nice and quiet and many restaurants nearby. Clean and a great place to relax.

Yelp
This is a 74 acre park in South Beach running 10 blocks from 5th Street to 14th Place. On one side is iconic Ocean Drive and on the other, the Atlantic Ocean. The park is a favorite of runners, walkers, and cyclists who enjoy the paved exercise path. Park amenities include three restrooms, at 6, 10 and 14 streets. There are eighteen sand volley ball courts and two playgrounds, one for ages two to five, and a larger one for ages up to twelve. At 10th Street the park is also the home of The Miami Design Preservation League's Welcome Center. Two outdoor gym areas are located at Muscle Beach South Beach at 9th Street. Two nature inspired installations: My Equilibria's Leopard Tree and My Beast serve the dual purpose of art and exercise equipment with thirty exercise components, You can rent chaise chairs and umbrellas to sit on the beach if you want to relax or bikes and skate if you want to exercise. You can also find bootcamps and exercise classes. Across the street from the park are numerous restaurants. Lummus Park hosts many events throughout the year. These include weekend artisan markets, Art Basel Miami Beach satellite fairs, Miami Design Preservation League's Art Deco Weekend, the Hyundai Air & Sea Show, and the South Beach Wine & Food Festival's Grand Tasting Village. A new improvement to the park is one hundred and fourteen new dimmable LED lighting, which improves visibility at night while reducing the amount of light visible from the beach which protects the sea turtles. When you think of South Beach you can't help but think of Lummus Park. It is the place to see and be seen by sunbathers, supermodels, and celebrities. It has been used for the backdrop of many television programs and film scenes. There is is nothing better than just sitting on a bench as you people watch in the beautiful Florida sunshine.

Yelp
Green park with not a whole lot to do. The part is next to the beach so you get the beach activity going. There are volleyball courts set up so it's cool to have that vibe. The boardwalk passes through it so you get that "exercise traffic" vibe which is cool. You'll end up visiting it because of Ocean Dr so it's ok, but the Park itself .... not a whole lot happening.

Yelp
We went to this park for the SOBE seafood festival. Every single tent had great food vendors with delicious treats for all of us. We had amazing and fresh seafood from different great restaurants. The drinks were excellent too, my two favorites were Jack Daniel's and the chardonnay wine from WS vineyards. They also had fun activities for kids and nice live music. Thank you!!

Yelp
So glad I attended this event!! This was all I thought it would be and more!! The weather was perfect Miami weather... blue skies, hot sun with a slight breeze... very slight!! This event is one not to miss! The venue, the people, the vendors and we can't forget the service and security... kudos to all!! They have pulled off a magnificent event !!! The food was extremely fresh and abundant. The drinks were flowing from juice to lunch liquor. There were orderly lines that moved quickly and the patrons were all funny and friendly!! There were a lot of families playing with strategically placed games. Beach balls were tossed around while people ate, drank and socialized. It was such a blessed feeling to have experience such true eclectic atmosphere. If you are available next year don't miss this event!

Yelp
Attended the SOBE Seafood Festival on a beautiful Saturday evening held at Lummus Park. Enjoyed a bunch of delicious food and drinks, saw some live music and DJs, and had a wonderful time. Quality Lummus Park is the long stretch of green space that runs parallel to Ocean Drive in the heart of South Beach. They have bits of sand, volleyball nets, some workout equipment, a outdoor bathroom and shower area, lots of trails, and plenty of benches and shade. On this particular day they also had a special event that stretched about two blocks with lots of food, drinks, and fun. Quantity The park is very large and stretches across almost 8 blocks between Ocean Drive and the beach. Even with the special event there was still tons of space for people to relax even if they did not have a ticket. Value The park is free, but you may need to pay to go to the special events inside. We were lucky enough to be able to attend the wonderful event thanks to Yelp. Ambiance Lummus Park is a very large park that is situated in the very heart of South Beach. It gives fantastic views of all the restaurants and boutique hotels that line the iconic street. It also places you steps away from the most well known stretch of beach. The park has lots of paths perfect for walking, rollerskating, and biking. There are palm trees and green space to create a very relaxing and beautiful scene. You will always find folks selling different items like Coconut Water and trinkets. Since it is also a outside hotspot with lots of foot traffic, you will also find a good deal of homeless people. Lots of cool cars slowly make the slow ride down Ocean and it is an inevitable tourist trap for many. Crowd Always packed, especially when the day is as gorgeous as it was on this Saturday. A mix of tourists taking in the sights and sounds and locals with their dogs or exercising. As the evening progresses and it because more of a nightclub area the crowd changes, but the rest of the time it is very family friendly. Service The outside portion of the park is very clean. However, the inside of the bathrooms are absolutely gross. Definitely do what you can to avoid using the facilities here. Parking Good luck and I say that with the best wishes for you. This area is near impossible to find any street parking nearby, and if you whiff on finding a spot you will end up waiting in crawling traffic for blocks before getting another chance. This is definitely a place you want to take advantage of Uber or Lyft or walk from a few blocks west. Extra Lummus Park is one of those places that everyone who visits Miami needs to visit, but its not a place to spend a lot of time unless you are at a special event. SOBE Seafood Festival is the perfect example of such an event and was my reason to come out and visit.

Yelp
Not quite muscle beach in Venice, CA but Lummus park muscle beach is a close second. Awesome location on south beach, Lummus is legit. Great equipment which is free to use. There are a lot of hardcore men and woman into fitness there. I asked someone to take a picture of me between sets and he said no. I'm like damn. Tourists and novices not accepted!

Yelp
Great park / beach located in the heart of Miami Beach. Park has a long stretch of grass, kid playground, walking paths, etc. It's a must park or beach to check out if visiting Miami Beach.

Yelp
Since it is never ending Red Tide at the poluted Gulf on West Coast of FL, I was forced to get my "Sea Therapy" on East Coast. The weather was gorgeous and over all it was a good trip. The place has litteraly everything for the convenience. The parking fee was high, however coming from Los Angeles it was not really big deal at all. It was available that all it mattered!! It was raining when I arrived, but it gave me a chance to do a little shoping in South Beach. Right after the rain the water in Atlantic was hot, so nice to swim in. It was clear so I could see gorgeous corals and shells below. It is littery shea shell heaven for a collector. I picked a few while I was drying. The beach was clean. I am not sure how they are managing to it with such heavy traffic, but jt was. The beach was not too empty not toouch crowd. The music was complementing the sound of the waves. Everything was so perfect, that I did not wamted to leave. It is a must stop when I go to the other coast to see my friends. Be back soon!

Yelp
Lummus park is located centrally on south beach. It is an iconic public park in the middle of the bustle of south beach. Many large companies such as the South Beach Food and Wine festival take advantage of this space to throw extravagant parties and festivals that are absolutely amazing. Normally it is a public park where people come to run, ride bike, and skate through. During the day many people just hang out here to people watch and such. It is also located right across the street where all the action on south beach is day or night. There is parking garages near this park but sometimes if there is an event it is difficult to park. Easy access to the beach from here as well. I am definitely a fan!
google avatar

Theresa B.

Yelp
To the best of my tourist understanding, this is the beach you want to stick with if you want to stay near all the action. It's right across from the craziness and party vibes of Ocean Drive, separated only by a crosswalk, essentially. We were at the beach by Ocean & 10th both days we went, and a couple things surprised me. 1.) I did not see an overwhelming amount of disgustingly beautiful people. I'll admit I was really intimidated to be in a swimsuit on South Beach, but I found that there really weren't those swarms of flawless, oiled-up tan people in perfect shape judging me. It could be because we were there around the fourth of July and all the locals were vacationing somewhere else? Or maybe the time of day we went, which was between 3-5pm. Either way, it was a pleasant surprise, as my preconceived notions about South Beach did initially have me uncomfortable. Another thing that surprised me is that the water really wasn't that clear? Again, could have been the time of day, or the weather, but all I know is that one of my friends was down by Nikki Beach for her bachelorette and judging by her pics, the water over there was basically totally clear. Weird. Could've always been a filter... But all in all, this was an acceptable beach - clean and not too crowded when we were there. Note: the Uber drivers in this area are total d*cks if you try to get into their car looking even slightly wet. Make sure you cover up your swimsuit before even trying to call one.

Yelp
Iconic Miami Beach public park- great for running, racing and people watching. Just off Ocean Drive with plenty of parking on the streets and nearby garages. Incredible people watching- and a must for those wanting to experience the real South Beach Ocean Drive scene.
google avatar

Ifeanyi K.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite parks to workout in Miami. Main reason is the prime location. Right next to the beach and the world famous Ocean drive. Which is great for post workout. You can recover and chill in the ocean or you can grab a bit to eat at one of the many restaurants on Ocean Drive. Also another plus about this location is that they have more than the standard equipment that most parks have in South Florida. Which makes for a diverse shoulder, arm and ab workout. Whenever I come here I always park at the 13th Street garage. This is the cheapest option here. The only downside is that the ourdoor gym looks like a playground so it attracts a lot of kids..lol. I Love kids but they get in the way of the workout at times
google avatar

Lashanda L.

Yelp
This beach is pretty busy. We found a spot to sit despite not having a towel or a bathing suit. We enjoyed ourselves on the Sand watching people. The water was a beautiful greenish blue. Many people were there with their loved ones and friends having fun. We did not feel bothered by anyone or anything. Of course there were birds that flew overhead, but the beach was pretty much clean so no birds annoying us too closely. The is a safety presence in the life guards and patrol. When you leave, wash your feet in the shower at one of the entrances.
google avatar

Holmes B.

Yelp
Best spot in Miami to get a tan, shop, dine, party, walk your dog, play and have a drink, all in one spot. That's the reason why Miami is so popular and people from all over come to visit or live.
google avatar

Elena V.

Yelp
South beach in the mornings resembles what it used to be. Quiet, relaxing and utter beauty! South beach is why I love and can't leave Miami. This is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Water are warm, shallow and clear as a pool. This is my home, where my heart is free and I am at peace. Until after 12 or 1pm then it starts getting a little more lively. And after 3pm it's blaring music, rowdy people and a full on party scene. Streets 1-2 a lot of families Streets 2-3 calm touristy hotel area Streets 3-6 mix of people tourist and locals Streets 6-11 free for all tourists and locals getting crazy Streets 12-14 Gay section of the beach Streets 15 & up a little more calm but still SoBe vibe. Parking on the street is $4 and hour Garages about $2 an hour depending which garage make sure u read rates properly. Some charge by 1/2 hour. Sometimes we get seaweed which is typical for summer some days are worse than others. **Please do not sit on top of other people! There's plenty of room at the beach make use of it and spread out! Also, please keep beaches clean and pick up after yourself! Thank you!

Yelp
This place is SOUTH BEACH. It's a great park next to the beach. A great place to have some fun.
google avatar

Marqus R.

Yelp
Lummus Park is one of the areas that make the hassle of going to South Beach, what with its horrid parking situation worth the trip. It has a beautiful beach, perfect ocean waters, located in the most "happening" of areas, great for people watching and loaded with visitors from all over the world. It's truly an international point of destination. Though it has a reputation of being for the "young and beautiful"....nothing wrong with a little eye candy to feed on.....it's far from being their exclusive domain. The really great thing about Lummus besides the beach and park itself is its close proximity to all of the restaurants and thrills located just across Ocean Drive. Everything is within easy walking with an availability shops, bars or anything you might need buy or want to do.
google avatar

Estefania O.

Yelp
I love Lummus park, it's so peaceful during the day & a lot of places to eat around . If you go to the beach Tip: bring your own beach chairs and umbrellas, unless you want to rent the ones at the beach $20 . The beach entrance is the cutest tho!!
google avatar

Sergio F.

Yelp
Miami Beach..I'm almost tempted to take away at least one star because your parking situation, mandatory tips at restaurants and overzealous traffic enforcement.. But I just can't. Where else can you go lay out in the sun in the middle of February? Or meet and chat up with a girl who says she's the girlfriend of a world renowned DJ but she'll still rub suntan oil on you? Where else is the sand pure and white, and decent surf? Or watch a real life Miami Vice episode in the distance (real US Coast Guard chasing a real life smuggler)? Or people watch..make out..heck even read a book? Miami Beach, I love ya!
google avatar

Bruce K.

Yelp
Beach! Babes! I'll stop there because there is little more that needs to be said. Parking is a pain. If you're lucky, you can find a metered spot and charge it up by credit card. You're not going to find a free space. You just aren't. I did notice that at least some of the beach area is "tops optional", so if you have little ones who don't need to see boobies then you may want to rethink your visit.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
Whether you're a local or a tourist South Beach Miami always makes for a good time, and definitely a beautiful photoshoot opportunity. What's not to love about a tropical paradise with beautiful weather. The Atlantic, sunshine, palm trees, and neon lights off from the ocean drive strip. Add a tropical drink and DAVE MATTHEWS BAND and you have for an amazing beach front concert and experience. I attended a beach front concert, which was free of charge, Courtesy of Capitol One. The concert was absolutely amazing, as always DMB delivered. It definitely was one of the best concert experiences I've ever had. Beach front listening to one of my favorite bands all while being just a walk away from great restaurants and bars to walk into after the concert is over. On a normal day, Lummus park is great. Beautiful scenery and just a short walk to whatever you might be in the mood for. From a club, to a bar or diner.
google avatar

Yelp
How can you not love the people watching & bustle here. Right in the heart of South Beach.

Yelp
This park is one of the many things that make Miami beautiful. Nestled between Ocean Drive and the Atlantic Ocean, Lummus Park offers a picturesque walk for anyone visiting Miami for the first time or for someone who has lived here all of their lives. There is a newly paved walkway that boasts the best views in town! It starts at South Pointe Beach Park and goes all the way past the fancy hotels like the Fountainbleu. This is the perfect way to experience the Miami coastline. The new pavement makes it extra easy to get your explore on. Along the way, there are plenty of things to do. You can cross the street and grab a bite or drink on Ocean Drive. Along the path, there are also rental Citi bikes which cost about $6 an hour to rent. The best part about these are the convenient drop off locations. You can rent your bike at any station and drop it off at any other station within the city. This allows patrons to be able to explore aimlessly without having to bike back to the original location. Lummus Park also offers many cool amenities. There are many entrances to the beaches. They also added a lot of brand new restrooms. Around 7th Street, there is "Muscle Beach" which is fully equipped with all kinds of pull up bars, tires, and weights to get your workout on. If you go further north, there are playgrounds for the kids. The major cons of Lummus Park are the traffic and lack of bike lanes . I think the best way to enter is by turning left off Alton from the Rickenbacker Causeway. You can part at South Pointe if you want to start at the beginning. Parking is here is best by the Pay by Phone app and costs $1-$2 an hour. If you want to be in the center of the action, I would enter via Washington and park at a garage covered in green vines on 7th Street. Parking here is $1 and hour, but be careful! It can escalate on peak days. Another great option is taking the Alton Road ramp off the Rickenbacker Causeway to the right and parking at a garage on 17th Street. This garage is in front of the Convention Center and will always cost $1 an hour regardless of the day. You can walk through Lincoln Road and enter Lummus from here. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE TAKE OCEAN DRIVE (unless you want to sit in traffic for an hour). Furthermore, there are many bikers and rollerbladers on the path. Just be conscious of your surroundings and you'll be fine. Perfect for an after dinner walk, or a relaxing day at the beach, Lummus Park is one of the best places to be in Miyamiiiiiiii.
google avatar

Gustavo A. L.

Yelp
If you know anything about me, or follow my reviews, you know that I am great fan of South Florida because the sun shines here everyday of the year and you can ALWAYS find stuff to do outdoors year round. Lummus park is the mecca of outdoor activities, strap on your Rollerblades, tune on to your favorite play list and go "blading" ... this is unbeatable fun and its FREE !!! Bring a few friends for a good game of sand volleyball, work out in your pull ups, do some sit ups, or just enjoy some good old people watching. Straddled by some awesome places on Ocean Drive and one of the sexiest beaches in the world, where else can you work up a sweat and then enjoy a good book afterwards on the shores of the Caribbean sea ... Lummus park is the Answer and it is in our backyard. See you on the court for a two on two !

Juan M.

Yelp
Beautiful beach with an awesome view of the ocean and city of Miami. Great hotels and restaurants around. Walk way is great for jogging.

Yelp
Love love love this beach! It makes me feel safe since there are cute, decked out lifeguard stations every half-mile (or so it seemed). I actually saw them jump into the water and rescue people... and they even checked out my arm when I got stung by a Portuguese Man O'War. Some ladies were topless tanning, which I wished I had the nerve to do, but I really didn't feel like blinding SoBe with my tiny, pale boobies. We were approached by a few club promoters for the evening events. Businesses hire planes to advertise over the water for people to see. They run a tractor through it every few hours to make it "flat." They even had topless, tanned, greased up Armani Exchange models roaming, passing out coupons! Swooooooon. They even have showers and bathrooms every few blocks! Like I said at the beginning, love love love this beach!
google avatar

Dennis M.

Yelp
I love this beach! The sand is pure white and ocean water is clear and warm. There are volleyball courts around the park before you enter the beach. The view of people jet-skiing and plane advertisements, and a person searching for gold with a metal detector makes this fantastic! You can rent beach chairs for $10 each and an umbrella for $12 each and use them until 5pm. If you go to the beach around 9am its a good deal because you have the same spot for most of the day. You can leave your spot at the beach, leave to go have lunch or hotel to get something then go back to your area since you paid your beach chair and/or umbrella. The beach chair rental and umbrella come from the Boucher Brothers. I recommend staying around the 8th street area of the beach because of this cool guy who provides beach chairs and umbrellas name Fernando! He's very conversative and friendly. I'll go back to this beach whenever I decide to come back just to visit Key West and the Everglades since both are near Miami!

Yelp
Check out this awesome pic. Yelp couldn't really display it properly https://plus.google.com/109571766966040919227/posts/ZoFZnQWWoCt That pic pretty much sums up my review. It was great being there while no one else was around and watching the sun rise little by little until that great ball of awesomeness was shining brightly.
google avatar

Karri S.

Yelp
Don't feed the rats with wings (seagulls) or they won't leave you alone! Those pests are everywhere! We were surprised at how clean the beach was! The swimming was great! I felt comfortable leaving our things to go swim. There were some pretty obnoxious people "playing" with the seagulls (see photo) nearby which lead to an unfortunate bird-poop-on-my-head incident which I was NOT happy about. Otherwise, the beach was fabulous. The bathrooms and rinse-off area is close by. Parking was a bit tricky. We just found a parking garage a few blocks away and walked.
google avatar

Yelp
Hey this beach is proper and I'm no beach slouch. Well, on the beach I'm a slouch but you get my drift. What's not to like about 80, sunny and breezy? Having ventured in such exotic locales as Avalon NJ and the Argave in Portugal I can tell you that this spot is worth the sunburn. Beach attendants to set you up with a chair and umbrella for some coin.
google avatar

Jewelyn T.

Yelp
Hey SoBe yelpers! I know this is a super late review, but I did visit here a year ago. If you're in the area this a must see. I enjoyed my time here. Only thing I didn't like was that it was over crowded and not that clean. Come here to soak up the sun, people watch and relax! If I ever come back to SoBe... I'll make some time to stop by here again! :)

Yelp
Absolutely love this beach/park combo. Without a doubt best in the US Pros: What's not to like: * It's free and centrally located * Has plenty of public restrooms * Amazing beach with clear turquoise waters * Tons of top notch bars, restaurants, and shopping nearby * Full of paved pathways to walk/bike * Palm trees and fresh lawns are carefully cared for * Beach festivals and sports tournaments (beach volleyball baby) take place every other week or so You can rent a bike at the automated bike stations located throughout. They are brand new and great quality. They have metal baskets in front to hold your items while you bike. However, they can be pricey: 10 dollars for two hours or 18 dollars for 4 hours. 24 dollars will let you take it out all day long. Cons: * Few places to park nearby especially on weekends * Can attract a less desirable crowd than south pointe beach or the beach north of Lincoln road * Most crowded area of south beach (but this can be a pro for spring breakers) I also saw a group of people taking a Segway tour of the park if you fancy this sort of thing

Yelp
Best beach to be at if you're young, beautiful, and single. Seriously. I prefer to lay my beach towel around 8th & Ocean Dr. or around 6th, that's where you can find alot of beach umbrellas/chairs to rent. Opposite of the ocean is the infamous Ocean Dr. Deco buildings, so this is a good postcard spot. There's awesome people-watching here whether its the beach volleyball players, the rollerbladers on the boardwalk, or just the hot folks (who can be all of the above). The sand is perfect, very little seaweed, and the surf actually has some waves in it (unlike Key Biscayne's calm waves). I didn't know this area was called Lummus Park but I go here for all my sand/surf needs even though Key Biscayne is closer. Around Ocean Dr./15th St. it starts turning into hotel-property beachfronts. Parking is a hassle so unless you're in a hotel nearby, you'll have to find a parking garage on Collins.

Yelp
Lummus is Miami. Often featured in movies such as (The Birdcage) it is what everyone pictures in their mind when they imagine beautiful South Beach. The perfect place to people watch, stroll or exercise its definitely SoBe at its finest. Over the weekend however it gets pretty packed but that is to be completely expected. If you are visiting Miami, you must check Lummus Park out. Park in one of the parking garages on 7th, 12th or 16th. Bring a picnic lunch, hang out, people watch and then hit the beach.

Yelp
aka the popularized beach of South Beach (SoBe). Beautiful waters (like everywhere else around Miami), good looking people (hey, it is also Muscle Beach!), and dirty white sand in the middle of one of the world's best beach city flanked with many colorful historically art deco buildings with tons of things to offer.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I loved this park when we were in south beach! It's right on the water, and it has a small area with workout machines if you need to work on your beach bod!

Yelp
Parking here is ridiculous. Good thing you can renew the time from your phone once you've gotten in a spot. No way I'm paying 20$ for valet that's silly. Great views and beach access though. More for families

Yelp
Beautiful beach. Not as I expected. The color of the water is clear, but I hate the fact that sea weeds are everywhere.

Yelp
Beautiful area in South Beach. By far, the best beach I have been to in the US. This is the only beach I continually come to every year, to enjoy the clear blue ocean, and white sandy beaches. You can't get better than this, unless you travel to the Caribbean. Everything is very well maintained and clean. I never see debris on the beach or in the water. You like to people watch? Here is your spot. (see photo)

Yelp
Best beach in the USA! Yes for sure! We come to Miami South Beach often and really enjoy the blue sky's and warm ocean! They have lifeguards from 9am-5pm daily which is a good thing since the waves vary each day. Topless optional for the ladies. This is a nice thing if you're into the full tan look. The City of Miami Beach grates the beach each morning so you are not stepping on seaweed and garbage when going for a swim. They keep the bathrooms semi-clean. I think they lost some tax dollars for this so recently it hasn't been top notch. This beach is great for everyone! We bring our kids and they enjoy building sand castles and swimming with the world. What I mean is that many people from all over the world seem to be in Miami Beach all the time. They are either on vacation or moving to South Beach. If you want exercise; try swimming, volleyball, rollerblading, running, work outs on the standing equipment next to the sand volleyball courts. If you want entertainment; they have this too! They usually have something going every other weekend on the beach. We have been there when the Wine and Cheese festival is there (w/Flo Rider on TV's The Today Show) and recently we saw they were having a Spring Forward festival with a stage on Sunday. If you are hungry; visit the many restaurants on Ocean Drive or Washington Ave., or Collins Blvd. Love this place and cannot wait to get back!

Yelp
I much prefer the beach at South Pointe Park but if you're looking for crowds, restaurants, and amenities like rental chairs and umbrellas, this is your place. My favorite thing about Lummus is the beach walk. Since we're staying downtown, I love to do my weekly morning long run across the Venetian Causeway to a beach walk entrance, where I head south to Lummus Park and run until I get bored and turn back. It's about 10-12 miles round trip but the time flies by with so much to see. There's plenty of gorgeous scenery and when I get hot enough it's easy to kick off my shoes and go play in the surf for awhile. As far as running parks go, this is one of the best, especially first thing in the morning. Watching the sun come up over the dunes is simply fantastic.

Yelp
After dinner on our last night, we made the trek down the beach back to the hotel instead of in a cab. Oh, was it worth it! Right at sunset and during a calm part of the night walking the shoreline is a must! We dipped our feet in the water and admired hotels lining the beach. On the strip by the street it was craziness, with bumping music and folks enjoying themselves, but for us by the water it was bliss. It was nice to enjoy the beach when it wasn't lined with tanned bodies and men in thongs. Great photo opps of the beach and it's just such a gorgeous walk to take in the beauty of the area in between sips of your piña colada.

Yelp
I was impressed with the fitness station. It has all the basic equipment you need for a good workout in the great outdoors. I'm a novice compared to some of the people there, but they let me jump right in and were nice about it.

Yelp
Beautiful beach , the water was clean and warm plenty of space to set your umbrella ... only issue is finding parking.

Yelp
Lummus is a beautiful park in South Beach with some of the best people watching you'll find anywhere. Day or night, there is always a buzz surrounding the area. Great place to enjoy a picnic or to relax under a shade tree; also the gateway to some of the most beautiful beaches on the east coast.

Yelp
Yeah sure it's full of weirdos but you have to agree that this place is beautiful. I hear complaint about not enough waterfront public space but from South Pointe all the way up to about 15th or so you have some prime real estate to play around in. Tons of volleyball nets, exercise equipment, kids playgrounds and more to enjoy Miami's beautiful weather.

Yelp
Blocked off from traffic so it's a great area for a stroll / jog along South Beach. Have fun finding parking nearby. I got a nice $23 ticket for the audacity to attempt an ever-so-fancy back in parking maneuver. Thanks guys...I might as well have just ignored the meter instead. Homeless are in full effect on every bit of the interior park. Let's continue to pump even more $ into the defense budget, right? They don't deserve our help. Sigh...
