11 Homes Transformed Into Amazing Mosaics

"Since 1989, when Ricky Boscarino stumbled upon the cabin in the woods and began transforming it into Luna Parc, it has been a massive work in progress. Filled with mosaics influenced by Klimt, Gaudí and Hundertwasser, the house looks as if it had been plucked from some colorful dreamscape and deposited in the backwoods of New Jersey. Artist, designer and “King-o-Luna,” Ricky Boscarino, has transformed the house both inside and out, with the interior of the house covered in his collections of homemade lamps, bottle caps, Buddhas, taxidermy, miniatures, stringed instruments, stained glass and religious icons. Currently, Boscarino is collecting Mrs. Butterworth bottles and blue glass for new outdoor sculptures. A skilled artist in many mediums, among other projects, Boscarino created a four-panel stained-glass mural for his bathroom depicting the journey of life from spermatozoa to skeleton. When not working on his house, Boscarino makes and sells art and jewelry (much of it miniature versions of everyday objects, though you can get a miniature fetus and enema bag in gold and silver) and throws two large parties a year in fall and spring. Luna Parc is not open to the public except for during spring and fall open houses, but there is a virtual tour available on the website." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Luna Parc is truly a hidden gem—one of the most magical, inspiring places I’ve ever visited! From the moment you arrive, you’re swept into an otherworldly space filled with color, creativity, and heart. Ricky, the visionary artist behind it all, is not only incredibly talented but also warm, welcoming, and full of infectious energy. He makes you feel like an old friend the moment you meet him. Every corner of his home is bursting with intricate details, eclectic collections, mosaics, sculptures, and stories. It’s impossible to take it all in during just one visit—there’s so much to explore, feel, and absorb. Whether you’re into art, architecture, or just looking for something completely unique, Luna Parc is an unforgettable experience that stays with you long after you leave. This place is pure magic. I highly recommend making the trip—you won’t regret it!

Such a great place to visit. The cross-over between hippy and DIY (steam)punk. Ricky is so original and passionate in his work. He’s an artist and a craftsman, with a great interest in people and cultures. He also involves artists in residence and interns, passing on his skills and vision on new generations, and preparing his legacy. Visiting this place gives you a lot of positive energy. The house, the garden: it’s overwhelming. Impossible not to make too many pictures!!

This place is incredible! Like walking around in the brain of a very talented artist. There's something to see in every inch of this place. We'll worth the price to get in. Also check his wishlist on his website and bring him materials to create more interesting things to look at!

This was such a unique visitation experience. The house is so ecclectic! The art is beautiful and the collections...oh my word...its just impossible to describe! If you get a chance to do a tour, I definitely recommend it, and encourage you to bring a camera. There's as much to see outside as in so plan enough time to wander and take it all in. Entrance is $20.00. Its a constantly evolving project so its probably not a one and done kind of exploration. Loved it!

So worth the visit. Parking on street & then walk in. So much to see & take in- hopefully will be back to see the ever evolving Luna Parc.

This is a unique, amazing and artistic place. It is another kind of exhibit, magical, different. Yes I lot of stairs but not bad. There is something unusual everywhere you look.

Amazing place! It gives you insight into the quirky, interesting mind of the artist (who leads the tour). The only comparable location i can think of is Philadelphia's Magic Gardens. Well worth the effort to get to the off-the- path location!!

We were fortunate to get to tour this whimsical wonderland, where delightful details await you around every turn! This home is full of inspiration and wonder, and has given me so many ideas for upcycling every day items into functional, artistic elements of home decor! The house is open for tours at only certain times of the year, check their website for details. The owner/artist was there to answer questions and give an overview, but the tour is mostly self-guided. You get to see the house and grounds. Groups are limited to small numbers, which is great so you never feel crowded, but also means you must book ahead. Parking is on-street, but the street is super quiet (it's a bit of a steep hill, so if someone in your party would struggle with climbing hills or stairs this may not be as enjoyable for them). We drove quite a few hours to check this out, if it were closer I would definitely go back because I don't feel you can see it all in one visit.

Yelp
I reserved my ticket a few days before for the tour which is offered a few times a month from March to October. You pay the $20 for the tour via cash or venmo when you arrive. When I arrived people parked along the side of the road outside the entrance. I didn't know what to expect but I was impressed as soon as I walked in the front gate. I arrived early and we were allowed to walk around the property outside the house. The house is beautiful on the outside. The artist Ricky does a short introduction about his life and his home before letting everyone self tour his home. Ricky was super friendly and approachable to ask questions and tell stories about his life's work. Every room is more beautiful and unique than the next! I will definitely be back to see what other things Ricky adds in the future!

Yelp
Incredible! What a treat to be able to walk the grounds and many of the interior rooms created by Ricky B, who happened to be around and was gracious and friendly. Bring your camera because there is much that will catch your eye. From quirky little creations to a Twigloo, Chapel, Workshop and much much more. Eyecatching features await at every corner of every room. Special thanks to all the folks working there today. From the guy working traffic control and parking, to the greeters in every room they were a source of great information. Only open 3 days in June and 3 days in October, a true New Jersey treasure. Not to be missed!

Yelp
Folk art at it's finest, this mosaic covered home is thrown open to the public twice a year-- as of 2011 it's June 24-26 and sometime in August (check the website for details). I've had the luck to visit on a quieter day, since my mad-potter-mama is friends with the sweet couple who've made this amazing home. It's free to walk around, and WELL worth your time. The closest comparison I can think of is.. if John Waters had been the one to construct the amazing mosaic spots on South St. in Philly. It's costly for artist Ricky to keep up, so spread the love and buy some of his art, jewelry, or other items. Last time I was there I bought some lovely wrought iron candlesticks that I treasure and use here in LA whenever I have a dinner party! Whether you're from NYC, Philly or the Poconos, this is a great place to bring a picnic and make an amazing little daytrip for yourself! Wear some smart shoes (ie flats) and comfy artsy clothes.

Yelp
Amazing place. We went on a trip there and the man giving the "tour" and answering question was friendly, accommodating, and interesting. The children and myself had a great time with no lulls in excitement. Would recommend for the entire family. This is a place that if you kept going back you would always see something you missed the last time. Keep up the amazing work!!!!

Yelp
This private residence - open to the public during only 2 windows each year - is a real treat for the imagination. The artist, who purchased the house in 1989, has been actively shaping it ever since with his unique flare of madcap whimsy. I would say his style may be something to the effect of Andy Warhol meets Tim Burton. Thousands of common objects adorn both the property and the inside of the house, from bowling balls, to vodka bottles, to bread ties, to crutches... all utilized in the ultimate artistic creation. The home supposedly has over one million mosaic tiles, each set by hand. The ghoulish front-doorway facade is certainly something out of a Lovecraftian nightmare. The admission is only $5, and you will surely be intrigued the deeper and deeper you go into this rabbit hole. Check out the Luna Parc website for the next open house and mark your calendar.
